Came here Cuz. Nothing else was open on a Victoria Day weekend and surprisingly it was really good. I got a grilled cheese and coffee and also their sandwich. There was just enough cheese between the bread to make that perfect grilled cheese. The place with a little hot that day, but the staff were very friendly and they attempt to open the door to cool the place down, but unfortunately their stopper did not allow the door to stay still. read more

Primarily a breakfast diner, so it closes relatively early at 2pm, not 3 as per Google! I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time for a quick place to grab a bite on the way to Niagara region. Staff were kinda and patient. Ontario St diner is fairly small with 6 small tables of 2-4. Menu is 1-page long. Prices are pretty reasonable. And I'm assuming that they specialize in pastrami, so that's what I ordered. I tried half of the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich and honestly, I couldn't see/taste the difference between Pastrami. Maybe the pastrami was slightly fattier, but they looked identical. Sandwich, standard size, was $11, combo with fries/coleslaw was $15, All-Day Breakfast was $10. Coffee was decent, along the same lines as Tim Horton's and waitress did refill. Average portions - you'll be able to finish your plate, decent for the price, but food was just ok. Nothing mind blowing. read more

We decided to come to Johnny Pastrami's for brunch on a Saturday morning. We came in thinking we'd get the regular eggs, bacon, and toast but we couldn't resist getting the smoked meat sandwiches. I ordered the small Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich. It came with a side of fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The sandwich was a good size and it was filling with the fries and coleslaw. I also had the chance to try the pastrami sandwich. I personally preferred the Montreal smoked meat sandwich but both were pretty good. It's a nice diner and the smoked meat sandwiches seemed to be popular as we noticed a bunch of orders for takeout. I wouldn't hesitate to come back again to try their other sandwiches. read more

My wife and I and friends and relatives have used the facility on Lake Street now known as Johnny Patrami's for many years, mostly for breakfasts. Had many a good event there. The original (to us) owner was a famous St. Catharines butcher(?). Great place for breakfasts, favourite and delightful waitress Caroline. excellent food, excellent service. Then it shut down, death of the owner(?). Eventually opened as Johnny's. Still good moments for years but then the wicked witches of the West took over. Soon..... surly, slow and inconsistent service, sometimes very rude. Today Oct 5, 2024 the end arrived. Somehow I offended the broom riders and we sat for over an hour with almost nothing happening. Slow service to some nearby but soon it was clear we were not going to get any food, only infrequent and reluctant refills of our tea and coffee. Finally tried to pay for our beverages and leave.....no significant response, no apoogies, unspoken ....get lost? So.....we will not return and will advise others to be cautious.....don't offend the black pointed hat gal in that joint. Fred read more

Had the pastrami sandwich large. My husband had the Montreal smoked meat large. Both were to die for. One thing I love about Canada is the portions. Even though we ordered a large the sandwiches were just enough to satisfy and not where I'm overly stuffed. The pickle and coleslaw are a great accompaniment to the sandwiches. We were staying nearby and I was looking for a good breakfast spot, so we tried Johnny's out. When we arrived we were greeted by one of the servers and grabbed one of the 8 to 10 tables available. The menu was short and compact and listed the basic breakfasts and sandwiches a decent breakfast and lunch place should have. I got a big breakfast (can't remember the name but it was eggs, toast, bacon, and pancakes, and a bit of fruit - nice addition!) and it was really good. The toast was thick and the bacon was just fantastic - I'm not sure what kind it is, but it is as good as I have had in higher end restaurants. Food prep wasn't speedy, but it was worth the wait. My lady friend had a hankerin' for a Reuben sandwich. I was a bit surprised that I thought it was on the small side, but it looked OK. I noticed it was only half eaten after a while and wondered what the hesitation was, although there was a comment about the meat tasting different than she expected. We finished up and went to the counter to check out, and my partner asked the waitress about the meat. "Was the meat on the Reuben corned beef?" The server glanced over her shoulder and asked the cook (maybe Johnny?) about the Reuben and he said, "I mix it up sometimes. Today I made it with Montreal smoked meat." That was a bit of a shocker to us, as a Reuben has always been synonymous with corned beef, unless it specifically said some other meat. We never thought to ask... The sandwich was OK, but it was not what we thought we were ordering, and it was not what was expected. As I said, the sandwich was not bad, but not what was expected. Overall a very good place for breakfast. Make sure to be specific about what you order, unless you are OK with some variation to standards. (Again - not saying that is bad - just saying be aware you may get something different than expected, which can be a good thing!) read more

OMG, I was actually blown away, I orders the Montreal smoked meat sandwich and my wife ordered the pastrami sandwich! I have done at of travelling through the state of Pennsylvania where they have some very famous sandwiche shops. And this place takes the prize! The pluses are (in no particular order): Flavour Quantity (my regular requires to be served on two plates) Price Food Prep A small note on the last one. I like Jalapeno's in my eggs. In the other establishments they would chop it up and mix it in my scrambled eggs. JP takes it up a notch, without asking, as he actually creates an omelette for me. Thumbs UP! First of all!!! FREE WIFI, GREAT FOOD, AND FRESH COFFEE!!! Went their with my really good friend and this place was just what we needed this morning! The portions were absolutely perfect and the waitresses filled our coffee whenever they seen it close to empty, (shows how much they care about their customers) both waitresses were very friendly and polite and quickly got to our order and it was just a very good breakfast! This place is definitely a gem for St.Catharines, we don't usually go out for breakfast but this was a first and with all the menu choices for breakfast and lunch we will surely go back soon! Coffee was only $2 for unlimited coffee and it was fresh and hot, just how we like our coffee! Looks small from the outside but can seat many people if you're dining in! This is my favourite spot to stop for lunch when ever I am in town. The food is excellent and the service is great. I have brought family, friends and colleagues here and have never been disappointed. For most it becomes their new favourite too. Johnny Pastrami's ..... well if I could this rate this restaurant lower I would , on Friday June 2nd me my 9 month old son and mother decided to go for breakfast at Johnny pastramis , we arrived at 10:50 and ordered food for us , as we waited for 40 mins no food was coming and my son was getting crabby he was hungry and I didn't expect to be waiting that long for breakfast . I asked the waitress what the hold up was and if I could get a piece of toast for my son anything ? My table was directly in view of the kitchen so I glanced over to look , the owner proceeded to yell "WHAT IS SHE LOOKING AT" "wtf" multiple times and was very aggressive about it . He could see me and my son clear as day . The waitresses were shocked I was shocked I honestly didn't know what to do , I went to the cash to pay for my drinks and the waitress said don't worry about it sorry sorry .. I left .. I cannot fathom a owner of a restaurant treating a customer like that let alone how he must treat his employees ... I did not do anything any normal person would do besides ask once where the breakfast was and look directly ahead of me ?! .. Disgusting !!!! read more
