In a word... awesome! The schnitzel sandwiches are HUGE, schnitzel is crispy and perfectly cooked, fresh cut fries are also great! Plan to have leftovers... The Schnitzel Shack is just a small place, nothing fancy. Just go to the counter and place your order, staff are friendly, food is prepared pretty fast. If it's busy, they'll give you a beeper to let you know when your food is ready. Tried the pork schnitzel and farmers schnitzel sandwiches, both were excellent. I've heard great things about the Schnitzel Parmesan, definitely going to try that next! Highly recommended. read more

Excellent schnitzel place! My sandwich came with four super crisp perfectly breaded layers I got the version with gravy and onions and we also got poutine fries in size medium. Everything was really good but you need to eat it there and the problem with that is they have wasps and the wasps were very aggressive. If they can figure out something to do about the WASP situation they probably would have been a perfect meal. read more

Must try if your looking for food near Port Hope or interested in trying authentic Schnitzels! This place is a gem, it has a cute old-school storefront with a German flag outside and a cosy patio (that wasn't open, we did take out) . The portion sizes are huge and the schnitzels are super tasty, breading is perfect! Just a caution to vegetarians, the sauerkraut side also had bacon bits. read more

Thankfully my wife has a big appetite to because what I bought would've gone to waste, due to the unreasonably large portions they serve up, I got the Hunter Schnitzel which would likely be enough to feed 3 people. Topped with a myriad of delicious toppings, given that this place does not have enough room to host eat in dining I'm willing to assume they are a take out or summer go to location. I will point out it is quite genius that they give you a little plastic pager like beeper thingy that vibrates and beeps when your order is ready. You can then retrieve that order from a window at the front of this littéral shack which seems to be smack dab in the middle of the junction that it occupies. Lastly but not least I'd be doing a great disservice if I did not mention the customer service skills of the people running this place are super friendly, and helpful. read more

We were looking for a new schnitzel place since our old go-to recently closed (bye, Wolfgang's). This was highly recommended on Yelp and we were driving by the area so thought we'd try it. No indoor seating and not much outdoors, but friendly service and well-prepared. I had the Hunter - gravy, sauteed onions & mushrooms. Hubby had the one with sauerkraut, which he said was not bad. Both were crispy, but could probably have benefited from a little salt - and I'm not one to add salt to anything. They were still good, and we'd definitely go there again. Probably the best kept hidden gem of port hope. It is located in a corner close to the main strip. It is a small place ran by the owners. There is a small parking lot. Upon entering, you see a blackboard with the menu and 5 bar stools for you to sit down. If you think you are coming here for a sit down meal, this is not the place. This is a take out place but the portions are hugggggeeeee! The take out trays are extra large. You will barely be able to finish the whole thing. I chose the hunter and it was more than enough schnitzel for me. You can also choose a chicken schnitzel, but who does that! You want the original pork schnitzel. For this price, you can't beat it. You can get the regular schnitzel or add a few things. Total price came out to be about $14 total. Amazing price deal. I would come again if i ever come back for fishing. read more

I'm full and I only ate 1/3 of my poutine schnitzel. Servings are plentiful, service by the ladies are fantastic and you can't beat the price. The fries taste like Five Guys' fries and I really appreciate the fact that it's perfectly seasoned. Not salty like other takeout places. Lots of cheese, gravy and super crispy coating on the schnitzel. Definitely coming back! read more

We went on a recommendation and the outstanding reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately this place did not do it for me. I've had very good schnitzel and this was not it. Seeing how big the portions are, hubby and I decided to share classic plate as we wanted to try the schnitzel on it's own, not drowned in cheese or sauces (which makes anything taste good). We both found there was too much batter and no flavour. Even the sauerkraut was just meh. Pure gut fill. For 30 minutes I was 10 years old again. My grandmother made the best chicken schnitzel and eggplant parmigiana. I loved it so much, she would make it every time I visited. I really felt like I was back in her kitchen eating schnitzel with lemon and egg parm. Not only is the food delicious, the staff is terrific, you can truly tell they love what they do. Swung by this place on the way back home from the Victoria Day weekend. The food really hit the spot after the long weekend and did not disappoint. We got the Hunter Schnitzel which was nice and crispy. Highly recommend getting all the salads on the side (potato, cucumber and red cabbage). The owners are incredibly friendly, will be coming back to this place next time we are in the area. Highly recommend and will let others know to visit. We found ourselves stranded in Port Hope by the season's first major snowstorm and we needed food. Schnitzel seemed like a good idea so, after finding accommodation we paid them a visit. It's a cute little takeout place with room for a few people to sit, but not really a dining establishment. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we were offered samples of sauerkraut, red cabbage and goulash to taste so we could decide what to order. I ordered the hunter dinner with mushroom sauce and sauerkraut and my partner ordered the Parmesan with tomato sauce and red cabbage. Both dinners came with a mountain of hand cut French fries and we got one goulash to share. First, the food is utterly delicious and the portions are so huge we were only able to work our way through the goulash and one dinner. The second dinner will be reheated when we get to our destination. We will certainly visit again when we pass through town. read more

Food is excellent, authentic, portions are huge, with great staff! Just a hint, if you are not completely famished one order will feed two. Keep in mind this is basically a take-out restaurant. If you are here in the summer take your order to the park downtown, find a picnic table and enjoy the scenery while you eat.
