Food, so so, service ok, boring ambience and hefty over fifty dollars, for two sandwiches and one soup and two butter tarts....

First and most importantly, they only take Canadian debit cards or cash. Luckily we had USD on us when we visited and they accepted it. This is a very small little breakfast spot, looks to be family owned or run. Our server was friendly and helped us make great selections. It defines gives hometown breakfast diner vibes. Today we stopped by the Sunrise Cafe and we had a great experience. The Ambiance: From the outside the diner is located in an industrial area and looks very small but don't let that deter you. As soon as we got closer we could see the restaurant was packed and the walls had tons of funny quotes on the wall with great puns. Another wall had tons of photos and it looks like a nice family place. The Food: The Food was great! The prices were really fair and the portions were huge. - Sunrise Classic (we think this was the name) This breakfast was big enough for two people. It came with two pieces of French toast, eggs (my fiancé chose scrambled), turkey sausage, home fries, and two large pieces of toast. My fiancé said the food was really good and he enjoyed it all. When asked if he would order this again, he said he definitely would. - Veggie Omelette: I ordered the veggie omelette with home fries and gluten free toast. The omelette was really good but I think I would definitely add the ham or bacon add on next time. The veggies included in the omelette were mushrooms, peppers, and onions. The Service: The employees were very friendly. They constantly refilled my fiancés coffee and kept checking on us to see if we needed anything else. Would we go back? Absolutely! read more

What a gem of a breakfast spot in Toronto. Ate here twice, everything absolutely delucious both times. Ordered omelet, HUGE and savory and eggs benedict with premeal bacon, loved it, hollandaise super creamy and big portion. Food comes out fast and service very attentive. Great food. Mira, I believe it's her name, was the only server, waitress, busser, food runner, and cashier. I watched her work and she was constantly moving around doing things. She even calculated the bill with paper and a calculator. That's amazing. There was at least ten tables she was working. The food were large servings. Lots of bread and carbs but still delicious. This is a local restaurant that seem to have been around for a long time. The kitchen is small and there was two men working in there. The food tasted really great and the pancakes were delicious. My only hang up was the form of payment. The door clearly says debit or cash only. I used my debit card and it wasn't accepted. She asked if it was a Canadian debit card or not. We are Americans and only have U.S. forms of payment. I had no way of knowing that was the standard. So since it was two of us I had to find an ATM to withdraw money for payment while the other stayed at the restaurant. She was very considerate and understanding as this happens often but updating form of payments could be great or clearly state the standards more so people are prepared. Food and service was great but just had that fifteen minute delay at the end. There's a gas station about five minutes down the road that has an ATM. read more

We were there for Breakfast on Feb. 21, 2024. Breakfast was delicious, service was great, prices were on par with other mom and pop breakfast shops. The reason I took 1 star off the review. They had home made Tarts on display in the display can, and on the counters. The problem was my eyes thought they looked great, so we bought 1/2 dozen, 2 raisin, 1 lemon meringue, and a couple others. We took them home and tried them as an after dinner snack. the fillings tasted horrible, and the crust tasted like corrugated cardboard smells, they were all over cooked and had a burnt flavour to them. We ended up throwing the last 2 out as neither of us could stomach them. read more

Please be AWARE that if you are from the USA they will try and cheat you by over charging you. When you get your bill they will add on fees that were not told to you upfront. They will tell you that they do not accept cards, only cash. They are very rude, mean spirited people, who are unethical and unkind. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was traveling alone and decided to stop here. So glad I did. The waitress was very friendly and the food was good. I highly recommend the French toast. It was light and flavorful. They didn't have real maple syrup which was the only issue with my meal. Everything else was very tasty. read more

Only cash or debit payments are accepted. As US tourists, we (a family of three) ended up paying a premium because we only had US dollars on us. Food was okay, but when we asked for a bill, no itemized bill was given! The owner only shouted out a number to pay in cash. I was not happy to pay $60 just for some eggs and potatoes! We should've spent time asking for a detailed bill and why we had to pay so much cash in US dollars. We were on vacation with a hectic schedule and didn't want to spoil the mood, so we paid and left quickly. In hindsight, it was a terrible experience that we learned a hard lesson that never pay until you see a detailed bill or simply don't go to cash only places. Nice to feel the hustle and bustle of a family owned breakfast joint. Everything is Cooke perfectly to order.

The restaurant is small and the basic diner fare is good. The service is slow. One older waitress took orders for everyone. She got the orders wrong on several occasions and refused to serve coffee fill ups to the patrons she wanted to leave. Mistakes on the bills were many. I was overcharged $9.00 for a simple breakfast of eggs and hash brown potatoes. The owner who was taking cash was overwhelmed too. I'm a confirmed breakfast foodie who enjoys discovering new breakfast diners in the area. This place should get better servers and remember that people like to be treated with common courtesy and a smile. The older waitresses was clearly overwhelmed and should consider a job at McDonalds. read more

I was in here last week with family for breakfast, based on a recommendation from my sister in law. I was pleasantly suprised by this unassuming little restaurant. Walking in, it has a great little country cafe feel with lots of wooden tables and chairs. The menu has all the standard favourites you would expect - breakfast - bacon eggs, waffles etc... but everything is excellently prepared. I ordered the belgian waffle with a side of home fries. The waffle was incredibly good - the batter had a slight sweetness to it - almost a vanilla esque quality - but so so good. It was light and perfectly cooked - the home fries were plentiful with lovely fried onions mixed in. What makes this place shine though is the service -fast, super friendly - our server was so genuine and fun. She was especially kind towards my father in law who is a senior and appreciated the attention. We had such a good experience here i would have liked to go back, but was only in town for the weekend and had limited time. Next time I am back in St. Catharines I will make sure to go back . If you like Home style breakfasts, this place is for you. It has your standard fair of breakfasts plus some great additions like banana split yogurt and granola (didn't try it but sounded delicious). They have fried as well as soft potatos with onions..I chose the soft..was just like how my mom made them. Prices and service was great and the small, quaint place, with wooden tables rounded out nicely that "home" feeling. Would definitely go again! read more

Found this place through yelp, on vacation from Los Angeles and this is a cute little country type cafe. Service and food were excellent. Very personable waitress and owner - only takes cash but well worth it. Definitely coming back if I'm ever on vacation out here again. Montecristo special was awesome. Hidden little gem. read more

Have been going there approx. 5 years and always had a great lunch by a great waitress. Went there a couple of weeks and had a new waitress. I was not feeling well and all I wanted was a small soup and a coffee. I was told I had to order a large soup, even thou a small is on the menu. I guess there is not enough profit in a small soup. Sunrise Cafe is one of the best breakfast/lunch restaurants in the city, great food, and the service is amazing. The atmosphere in the restaurant is always positive and the wait in the lines to get a seat is worth it.
