For Laredo, this is a nice place. It is very loud, but it's a family forward environment, so that's expected. The food is good and a nice deviation from the limited options in the area. If you're looking for a nice restaurant with solid Italian food, this a a good place. Service was good. read more

I came here in May for a school club lunch and we had exceptional service. I called ahead and was told to arrive early since it was a weekend so I did. I agree with the other patron who mentioned that there is no waiting area. I was 8 months pregnant at the time so waiting was less than fun. I had to stand the whole time as the single bench was occupied. It was my first time here since it burned down. I had already seen the change in decor online and I do think it looked better before. I thought the food was good and the portions were huge. It's a chain restaurant so I don't know what people were expecting. Plan on going with the family this Sunday after mass. I wouldn't order the Italian nachos again but everything else was pretty good. I had the meatball sub, pizza, and a cheesecake. My students enjoyed their chicken parms, pizzas, and wings. They did say the chocolate cake wasn't very good but it did look good. read more

Absolutely wonderful dining experience provided by the highly professional staff at Johnny Carino's. Our waiter, JC Navarro was very courteous, attentive and prompt. Food was delicious and well prepared, drinks (Bellinis) were great. The asst. manager, Mark Lopez, checked in us and was very pleasant. We had a very nice evening. First time here with my wife and I wouldn't recommend it. The menu says you get unlimited soup or salad with certain pastas, but we were told only the salad is unlimited; soup requires buying a full order to get "unlimited" refills. Adding chicken to my pasta was already $5.49, but switching to breaded jumped to $8.00, which felt excessive. Happy hour supposedly had "additional options on the patio and the bar," yet our waitress said happy hour only applied to the patio and bar, contradicting the menu. We got more "unfortunately" and "I'm sorry" than actual solutions. They also had almost no condiments despite serving French fries. We asked for ranch and were first told they only had ketchup--despite having salads on the menu. Then, suddenly, they "found" ranch. The Chicken Parm sandwich (photo) wasn't bad, but for $17 the portion was tiny. Between the misleading menu, inflated add-on prices, poor service, and basic missing condiments, I won't be returning. read more

We were so excited to revisit after the fire. I ordered chicken Alfredo pasta, and my partner had the ranch hamburger. Salads were ok. Chicken from the chicken Alfredo must have been RUBBER. Additionally, the burger patty was the poorest premade thing I've ever seen. The cooking was poor, quality of ingredients was poor, the service was mediocre at best. The following days were filled with gastrointestinal distress. Overall completely dissatisfied and disappointed with a $75 meal that shouldn't be consumed in the first place. read more

I took my family on a Sunday place was nice brand new, alot of employees just standing around the restroom area blocking the enterance. I ordered the alfredo fettuccine sauce was soupy and bland no spices at all. My wife ordered potato soup it had tiny parts of potato and also lacked flavor. This is the new Johnny's. Brand new building, open concept, which mass it extremely loud as the bar is combined with the dining area. Bread is WAAAAYYYY smaller and they served a minute amount of olive oil and garlic to dip it in. Windows ALL AROUND, it's hurting our eyes...all of us. Too bright! Margueruta pizza had barely any tomatoes Environment is not like the old Johnny's. I don't think I like it anymore. read more

Patronized this business for many years prior to the fire, in fact when Carino's became Johnny's tavern and the bar was expanded for me was probably the highpoint of the establishment. Bar/restaurant food specials daily and briefly 2.00 any bottle beer (even import) was a deal beyond belief and the place was packed, however food and drink prices quickly grew and deals were less spectacular (and so then were the crowds) but it was still a solid option with good food and service. So today took an early lunch to avoid the "new restaurant in Laredo" crowds, and it's ok I guess, I'm not a fan of the wide open space and it's definitely loud. Unfortunately, I had the same experience as Jeff C. my lasagna and salad came out at same time (hopefully kitchen/waitstaff will better communicate once new has worn off) also was not offered fresh grated parm cheese and lasagna plate was a little cool by the time finished salad. The food quality was alright, the bread was good and the service fine, but for me the disappointment was in the price. Lunch lasagna is 15 bucks, but no longer comes with salad so that's a 5 dollar add (making it same price as dinner option that includes salad) plus a 5 dollar lemonade and 5 dollar tip and tax = 30 dollar lunch. I asked about menu daily specials (previously available here, and currently at other locations) and "famous Dave's" offers that I keep getting text messages for but I guess again until the new wears off ... neither are available. Maybe things will settle down in few weeks and owners will bring back some of the specials that used to make this a great dining option, until then back to Olive Garden. read more

No waiting area, as my wife and I left the place the entrance was jammed with waiting people. The bathrooms entrance are crowded too since the waiters hang by that section. It seems that one had to walk through a corridor. Food was as expected like fast food. Restaurant was much better before. Servers looked more decent all dressed black. Now they look like fast food employees. Fast food place with restaurant prices. Definitely not one of my favorite restaurants anymore. read more

The new Carino's not longer markets itself as rustic Italian but the great selections of the past are still available. My wife and I had the Spicy Romano Chicken with butterfly pasta and the Spicy Shrimp and Chicken with penne pasta. As in the past, both were delicious. The new restaurant is bigger, brighter, and more open and "modern" but I preferred the former, dark and more cosy old building. Prices, as you might expect, are significantly higher, but still affordable, specially since the servings are generous enough for leftovers to take home. read more
