As a service industry business y'all may need to rethink & review your service experience extended out customers Especially having raised your prices, your service needs to reflect it. I went for a basic pedicure which cost $33.00 done by a man who was impatient and inexperienced. He took a look at my feet and suggested a callus scrub for another $13 dollars. Also he kept moving/pulling my foot on the pedestal which made me very uncomfortable, not at all a spa experience! When he was finished he stood up and didn't assist me nor show me where to sit down to dry the polish. I got out of there and noticed that the polish was badly done, some of the nails were chipped, and the cuticles were not even touched in one of the toes. Buyer beware!!! Rip off at the John V Spa. My husband bought a pamper me please package for Christmas. I went and had my massage and pedicure done. When I moved on to the manicure I was informed I would have to pay extra. Even though I had the brochure of everything included in the package and I told them when I made the appointment that's what I was coming for and I showed them the brochure they wouldn't honor it. I decided to try John V again after quite some time and I loved that it was not crowded and I was able to get right in. I initially was going to be worked on by a young woman, but a guy ended up doing my mani and pedi. He was super nice and very good. The issue was that I'm not sure if he was a manager or owner, but every time someone walked in, he stopped what he was doing or got up to go to the front, which was annoying. Once we got to the manicure, every time his cell phone rang, he answered it. To me, that was unprofessional. i went to john V yesterday and i got a pedicure and my eye brows done. A older lady did my eye brows and a elder man did my toes. My eye brows turned out pretty perfect and did not hurt at all. My toes on the other hands were rushed and terribly painted. i got the hot stone pedicure and the older man did not even do the hot stones and then when i said that when i went to check out they argued with me about the pricing because i was not going to pay for something i did not get. The pedicure was suppose to last 45 mins but barely lasted 25. Use to go there all the time and decided to try it again but was very disappointed. read more

It seems that getting a pedicure in a new location (at least as a guy) is hit or miss. Often times there is not an understanding of what guys are looking for. Not here, They have sports pedicures right on the list of services in addition to the more traditional Spa styles and they catered differently to the men that came in. (As a side note, at one of the "miss" places I have been to in the past, I continued to confuse the person doing the pedi because I didn't want "color" on my toes) The place is very modern, clean and comfortable. Everyone was very polite and I was able to get right in without an appointment. They have a large number of employees and stations (12-14 pedicure chairs and Manicure stations to do 15 at a time). Oh and for a bonus when you sit down, they offer you water, soft drinks or wine. Prices were clear in the offerings and for $40 or $45 (can't remember now) the pedicure was full service including all of the foot treatment you would expect plus a sugar scrub, something else I can't identify and then a moisturizer of some kind. Then hot stone massage and hot towel wrap. They also had a basis pedicure for less than that. The prices were comparable to any other "nails" only place o have been I decided to get a manicure as well. All the same great experiences. I didn't take advantage of these additional services that they seem to have but others there did... Waxing, salon services for hair and color etc, and threading. I recently moved to the north shore and, unfortunately, I had to find a hair stylist closer to home. I had absolutely nothing to go on except the reviews on Yelp, and I gave John V a try. I was able to get an appointment for later the same afternoon I called. That's a plus because sometimes I just decide "It's time" and then I want to get it done that day or the next. The salon is absolutely HUGE. Its primary business is manicures and pedicures, but they also have several hair stations, a massage room and I don't know what else. It seems to go on forever. My basic cut/trim appointment was with Brandy. First, Brandy has a very personable, approachable, engaging demeanor. She took the time to really see what we were working with, she listened, and she gave suggestions that were NOT at ALL pushy or "know-it-all." I felt comfortable and like I could trust her with my hair from the start. There wash was fine -- not one of those luxurious, massaging washes that some salons do, but she got the job done and didn't chat through the whole thing (I don't like chatting while getting my hair washed). When she started, she immediately showed me what half an inch cut off looked like BEFORE cutting any more. From there, I said, go ahead with a full inch. She trimmed everything up, made sure things were even, checked from different heights and angles, and was very thorough and detailed. I usually just leave a salon with my hair wet because I almost never like how it gets styled, but decided to let Brandy blow it out. I'm glad I did. For the first time in a long time, I really liked the way it looked. My normally long hair is barely touching my shoulders because of bad hair choices I made three years ago so I've been in correct and grow -- but first cut off more damaged crap -- mode for a long time. That's what I mean by not having liked it for a long time -- till Brandy shaped it up, blew it out and made me feel like I looked at least a few years younger than I've looked for the last year. We did chat as she worked and I found her to be quite witty, down to earth, and enjoyable to converse with. Her next customers came in while I was there (I have thick hair that takes a long time to dry, so it was my fault she was a bit behind), and though they were clearly just customers of hers, everybody engaged with her (and me because I was sitting there) like they were all friends or family. It was cool! If you are in the market for a haircut, I very much recommend your giving Brandy a try. (Of course, she does color and all that jazz, but I got only a haircut.) I left here today in almost tears of JOY! I have been bopping around from one stylist to another for the past three years. It is unbelievably frustrating to sacrifice your time and money and leave a salon not feeling like a million bucks. Today that ended with Brandy. She took the time to really look at my hair and listen to my concerns. She asked a lot, I mean A LOT of questions, but it was worth it! For the first time in years I feel like myself again!!! Had my hair done by Tammy on 6/22/2017 (the day before our family vacation), in all fairness she was recommended to me by a friend, unfortunately for me it was the worst experience ever. She actually started off ok, kind of rough around the edges but pleasant, in the second part of my process she got a call from an upset client she obviously considered more important than me (she said it was a rich client that went to her on a weekly basis who expects for her to put everything aside to take care of her needs ) anyway she went from rough around the edges to annoyed almost rude and I was obviously no longer her focus, she put a toner in my hair and when she was done putting it my hair, she turned around without saying a word and left me there with my head in the sink for 20 minutes, I was worried and wanted to call her but she was nowhere in sight because I've had toner put in my hair before and it was usually in and out within minutes, needless to say all the bleaching she did to my hair in the first part of the process was totally gone except for an incredible light almost white streak smack dab in the front of my head to make matters way worse she has absolutely no clue on how to blow dry hair like a stylist, she actually used her fingers and the blow dryer, nothing else, I literally left in tears not because she actually charged me the $160.00 but because like I said above it was the day before my vacation so I just had to deal with it. Great pedicure but my birthday is ruined because she destroyed my eyebrows. I left in tears after trying to explain to her how i normally get my eyebrows down and even showed her a picture of my eyebrows from the last time they were done in Georgia. I secured an appointment a week in advance to get a diabetic pedicure and signature manicure (both with gel polish) on my birthday. When I arrived, they initially could not find my appointment and I landed with Bambu (Bamboo?). English was an issue so I ended up receiving the basic manicure instead of my requested signature manicure. I also chose the DND polish which purports to be applied without a base coat (removal is a nightmare) but poor application caused bubbles (lived with) and lumps (had to immediately return to the salon). Lack of attention to detail does not build a nail technician's clientele. Needless to say, I did not feel pampered on my birthday. I gave the salon 2 stars because the pedicure room and manicure area have tremendous potential and appear spa like. The presentation of pedicure scrubs/lotions is fresh and professional. I was disappointed because I tried to book in advance and was looking for a regular nail spa since I was new to the area. I get my nails done twice a month and sometimes bring my daughter for services. Pricey for the exceptionally poor manicure received. Appointment was two weeks ago today. Recently went to this salon to get a dip manicure and pedicure. It cost $118 before tip. After 4 days, all of the top coat on my dip peeled off. I went back in and they "fixed it" for me for free. Two days later, it started peeling off again and the actual dip powder is not holding on/chipping. I just said screw it at that point and will just have to have busted nails for a little while. My friend who does dip manicures looked at them and said it's because they put gel on top of my dip instead of the proper dip top coat. This has been very disappointing because I considered John V one of the nicer salons around and was willing to spend more to get my nails done here, but it ended up being a waste of money and time because my nails look awful. All the technicians speak English very well if you have something specific you want. I think this place is a really good deal for all the service you receive and the complimentary beverages/ wine! Had such a great experience here! Can't say enough about the cleanliness and style of the salon itself. The place is HUGE and so comfortable! My pedicure and gel manicure were perfect. It was obvious that they are very careful and hygienic - tools packaged, stations immaculately clean, and very precise technique. I was a customer at John V for over a year. I did most of my beauty treatments there to include nails, pedicure, waxing, hair cut & color and massage. Being new to the area, I relied on the reviews to find a place. Apparently, the staff must post many of the reviews because the positive ones I doubt are factual. While going there for hair the stylist once turned my hair brassy and gave me hot roots and another time turned my hair almost black. Even though I knew my color combination and my hair is naturally a warm medium brown, they only got my hair right a few times at most, and all I did for color was the regrowth. I heard excuses time and time again about how they had changed color lines, or something must have gotten mixed wrong, etc. No one should pay thousands of dollars and end up with their hair wrong. You also should not sit and wait while your stylist is halfway done with you but works on other people for hours in between. If anyone is looking for a decent hair place, I recommend Paris Parker or Salon H2O. As far as nails I tried different technicians and as soon as I liked one they quit but the salon would never tell you and you would just show up with an appointment and they shifted you to a new person. Even if you had an appointment, sometimes you would wait from half an hour up to over an hour, which honestly defeats the purpose of an appointment. I once went to the manager and he was suppose to do my nails after I waited over an hour with an appointment then he advised he didn't have time for a quick gel manicure "because I was not one of his regular clients" and he shifted me to another person that I waited another half hour for. This happened repeatedly and the owners just made excuses every time. If anyone is looking for a decent nail place, I recommend DeView Nails or P&D nails. I tried doing massages at John V twice, and the room was cold as was the oil. The "massage therapist" (I saw no credentials and saw her doing pedicures) did not cut her nails so I got scratched. The "bonus" during one service I had was that the massage room has slightly open walls, so I got to listen to the screaming kid's spa birthday party right in the middle of my massage. If anyone is looking for a decent massage place, I recommend Stone Creek. The cherry on top and what stopped me from ever going back, as if I needed more reasons, was when the owner's mom ripped multiple layers of skin off my face due to contaminated wax. It should be noted that she is a nail tech not an esthetician doing the service. I usually do my eyebrows every two weeks. I have also, in the past, had my full face done for special events so my makeup sets better. My wedding was just around the corner, so she did a full-face wax after I had just asked for eyebrow only, she just kept going saying "I see a spot let me just do it." She went over the same areas repeatedly for peach fuzz. A waxing rule: never go over the same area multiple times, it damages the skin. Some areas she did up to 5 passes. Another issue is she double dipped in the wax with the same stick, this is how bacteria builds up and the wax gets contaminated. I ended up having layers of skin taken off my face and it looked like a chemical peal. She essentially gave me a chemical and friction burn on my face. What bothers me most, other than the fact that they did physical harm, is that it was very painful and almost scarred my face, and the owner tried saying I must use Retinol or it was somehow my fault that my face got messed up. That was the common theme at this place. it was always the customer's fault or some other silly excuse. I went to a dermatologist who also does light plastic work that very same day, and she advised that I indeed had a chemical burn and from the contaminated wax. She prescribed me a skin cream that cost almost $150 and I had to do light dermabrasion and derma plane afterward to make sure it didn't scar my face. I did an estimate based on my receipts and I wasted almost $5000 at John V's to basically damage my hair, get poor customer service for nails, scratch me during a massage, and almost permanently damage my face. I do not know how this place is still there or why I gave them so many chances. They keep claiming new ownership, but they are just shifting it from one family member to another that is why the name is the same. Whoever monitors the heath grades for salons and what the employees are trained in verses what services they are providing needs to investigate this place. read more

The technician was unfriendly, asked if I wanted "Stone" or "Deluxe" never mentioning the basic which is the least expensive. She then proceeded to cut me. It bled even after putting the coagulant on. She then did not file my nails so they were even or did anything with my heels. Never asked if I wanted a beverage as is typical (until after the service). She rushed thru everything & I was totally done in 40 minutes even with the cut treatment!! The place had only about 5 customers & from my experience, it was usually busy. There was no obvious manager in the place. (I actually yelped when she cut me!). Everyone makes mistakes but the entire event was terrible. I'll never go back!! read more

The other stuff they talked about didn't get me as mad as when the nail girl with the mole on her chin said I have to do the fat girl which was my sister in law like is this seriously how u address ur clients? Then my sisters lady (which she liked) was like oh ur Vietnamese so the other nail girl(mole on her chin) can hear she was shocked and stopped talking shit but said a little couple smart slick stuff here and there very quietly to the other lady & asking her if we were together and didn't other clients come together and kept trying to say other people came in before us. Whatever I was very annoyed at this place. Advice: make sure ur clients don't understand Vietnamese before u start talking shit.! after going to this place, my nails started to break. I got acrylics, and the acrylic broke itself not my nail. only two days after i got them done they broke. The lady who did my nails did not even put a tip on one of my nails, she put straight acrylic on top of MY nail, and because of that another nail broke and my nail itself broke. These nails were not strong at all. They cracked in the middle. and for $40 REFILL i would've expected better. Place is beautiful but I will not be showing up again. I've been here at least 4 times and can't believe I'm just now writing a review about this place. I always ask for Rose (Hong), she's just perfect and thorough! I never want to go anywhere else for my spa needs when it comes to my mani/pedi, but they do offer other services that I haven't made time for yet... However people always leave with smiles on their faces! They also serve wine (I couldn't drink it this time). I am so happy! I also see men here every time I've been here thus far. My nails are perfect & feet are soft and supple. She really pays attention to detail (I notice a few others did the same technique)... No gel paint on my skin or cuticles. Rose pampers me and just keeps it so calm and relaxing for me. The massages are incredible regardless of type of treatment you want. I usually do that $55-60 pedicure, unless I have only an hour. They wrap your finger nails/toe nails thoroughly when soaking off my gel nails... Previous places always wrap it so sloppy that it falls off and I would struggle trying to fix it and more fall off, so I am so impressed & happy with their wrapping technique! Anyhow, I live an hour away, and will continue to drive the total two hours just to get my nails done by Rose! read more

Excellent spot on the northshore to get your nails done. Being a lover of a regular gel mani/pedicure, I'm very happy that I found this place. The place is immaculate; all tools are packaged in the surgical packs, which is great. Additionally, you can tell that the place is just maintained/cleaned well; no dust bunnies or tumble weeds of hair floating around (they do hair, too). I can't attest for the spa or hair services, but the pedicures are fantastic and they do an excellent job on my gel manicures. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and it's obvious they put customer satisfaction above all else. If looking for a place on the northshore, I highly recommend John V. read more

My daughter and I went to enjoy our mani and pedi together and planned to use the $100 gift card her husband graciously gave her. She was given a "push gift" by her husband before she had her 1st baby. When we tried to redeem it, they quickly referred to the tiny print on it and would not let us use it. I asked if they would honor even half. They were rude and aid NO so we had to lose our $100.00. Don't ever buy a gift card from them! The prices were very reasonable for the service I received. I was offered a complementary drink while I was there. The lady who did my pedicure was very thorough, and she did a great job! Well, I've been here a few times and usually never had a problem. Today was terrible. Got there right when they opened, signed in with my two friends for pedi. They told us then they may have to stagger bc they were short staffed. We said ok. I went back to my car to get something and when I came back, my gf's had been offered a drink. No one acknowledged me, much less offered anything. A few minutes later, another couple arrived to the pedi area. They were offered drinks and the staff knew them by name (so I guess regular customers). Again, I wasn't acknowledged. Finally, my friend spoke up and asked and I was brought something. My friends pedi was literally completed and I hadn't even been touched yet. Then the tech walked from my friends and started on the other couple! I got up and walked away. About 5 min later (my daughter was getting a mani), they came looking for me. I explained to them my issue and they tried to claim the other couple had an appt. unfortunately, the appt book was open on the desk and nothing was written in. I get they were trying to do right by regulars, but ignoring any customer is rude and unprofessional. Neither me, my daughter or my two friends will be going back. read more
