Lauren is the co-owner of Salon J.Elle and I have been going to her for years now. She always does an amazing job and really has a knack for suggesting what will look good on you. She truly is a color genius! Almost my entire family goes to her and everyone that I send her way gets hooked. No matter how trendy or conservative you are, they can style your hair. They recently installed a mani/pedi station which is nice for a one stop shop. I also hired Lauren for hair and makeup for my wedding and the up-styles Lauren and Sam did were breathtaking and the same goes for makeup. I felt beautiful and my hair and makeup held up the entire night, even with all the dancing. Lastly - spray tans...yep they got em! Very nice even color, natural looking and no streaks. I found this salon some time in April via YELP and haven't looked back since. In a nutshell: --Great prices. --Cute decor. --Convenient parking. --Friendly & Talented staff. I live in New Orleans but I grew up in Metairie, so making the trek over city limits doesn't frighten me like some New Orleanians! I shopped around in the past to various salons from uptown to the cbd to downtown and what I discovered was either 1 of 3 things: 1. Overcrowded salons where parking is a nightmare and you feel rushed. 2. Incredibly expensive due to location. 3. Rich, snooty attitudes. Yelp is my best friend. I typically don't go to a place without yelping it first. Although I dont review often, I like to write reviews for places I frequent: --This place has ample parking and is at a convenient location in Metairie (::ahem:: for those New Orleanians in need, just take the Clearview exit on I-10) the salon is just across the street from Clearview Mall on Vets. --My stylist Jackie is fantastic. She is extremely detail oriented and thorough. I tend to request haircuts that look a very specific way - ie.1920s bob - and she nailed it!!! She also does an exceptional job with men's hair. Being the girl who never went back to a specific salon/stylist more than twice in my life, it speaks volumes to me that I've been to Salon J-Elle almost every 4-6 weeks since April of this year. I've been a loyal Salon J-Elle customer for the last two and a half years and I seriously couldn't be happier. Each time I visit the Salon I have an amazing experience from beginning to end. All of the girls here are super sweet, and each one of them is a talented professional. I've been coming to Sam for my last two appointments, and she is completely wonderful. I never feel rushed, and Sam always takes her time to make sure my color and cut are perfect. I usually don't have a game plan when I come in, but that's why I love Sam! I just arrive to my appointment and let her work her magic. She has an eye for what works, and it's obvious she loves what she's doing because it is clearly reflected in her magnificent work! A couple of months ago, I decided to get approx. 8" of hair cut off because I was bored with it. A quick Yelp search pointed me in the direction of Salon J-Elle. Bonus: Online appointment booking. I wasn't sure who to choose for my first appointment, but Sadie sounded like a cool name. Best choice ever. Not only did Sadie cut off the 8" of hair, but she gave me some kickass highlights and some great tips for styling/care. She was extremely conversational and made the 2-3 hour appointment fly by! I recently went back for a trim and highlight touchup and Sadie worked her magic yet again. Also, the dry shampoo that she introduced me to is magic in a bottle. Quality of spray tan: excellent Friendliness of staff: is there a 0 star. This was my first spray tan and I have a physical disability that affects my balance. I went in with no expectations and that is exacts what I got. The girls were all business. Zero personality. There has to be a better salon out there for spray tanning. I believe this is one of the best salons in the area. I have been going to Lauren, one of the owners, since I was 16 and she has yet to fail me. I basically walk in, explain shortly about what I want, and she nails it every time. I have never been disappointed. The salon constantly goes to workshops and keep up with the latest styles/trends. I have gotten pedicures/maicures here (including gel) and they have lasted way longer than when I get them from anywhere else. PLUS it is very reasonably priced Lauren has also done our hair/makeup for many occasions. It is always flawless. For my brother's wedding, Sam did my updo and I can't believe how great it looked and how well it held up through the night. It didn't budge and I got constant compliments. Ok, ok. So, I decided to make a last minute appointment with this salon after reading so many great reviews. I had a serious color correction that needed to be done 24hours before a Birthday party. I had no hope for my severely fried hair and was initially going to try and box dye it again and wing it for this party. SO GLAD I decided to go see Sam for my complete hair transformation! I never in a million years thought my hair would look anything close to normal after what I did to it (bleach over bleach over bleach under multiple box dyes). She was awesome! She's super sweet and told me up front what was going to have to happen to get my hair back healthy. She even missed her nail appointment so she didn't have to rush and could finish my hair (sorry again, Sam!). She's an amazing hairstylist and I would highly recommend her for any service. If you're looking for color correction, she's your girl! See the photos for before and after. The salon is a great little spot, very welcoming with cute decor and comfy little massage chairs at the wash bowls! Everyone there is really nice and funny. I found Jaclyn at Salon J-elle from reading Yelp reviews. I have been to her three times already and every time she has been great. Jaclyn really cares about giving a great haircut which is important to me since I'm a guy and not looking for a colorist. In addition to being very talented, she is also great to talk to and takes as much time as needed to finish your cut and make sure it is how you wanted her to cut it. I moved to New Orleans almost a year ago and I think I have finally found a salon that I will happily go back to. I got turned around when trying to find it, but I called and they were very helpful with directions. They weren't upset at all that I was a little late. My last haircut was pretty boring haircut, and I wanted something a little more sassy. The minute Samantha put her hands through my hair she knew how to help me out. She talked me through what she was doing and why. She was using techniques that I had never seen - I guess that's what happens when your hair stylist is well educated and up to date with the new techniques. She didn't rush through it, and I got a free Moroccan oil treatment since I was a first time customer! I was there for a little over an hour and it only cost $38. Seriously, try it. read more

I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want other people to find out how awesome this salon is. Jeff gave me literally the BEST haircut I have ever gotten and I barely had to explain what I wanted. He came to me highly recommended by several women in my office whom I complemented on their hair. It's no coincidence that both of their cuts were done by Jeff. Price was beyond reasonable and everyone was very friendly. I will definitely be going back. PS: I bought this brush called "The Wet Brush". You can use it in the shower or right after, on wet hair, and it goes through like your hair has been dried and straightened. No tangles. It works even with no conditioner. I've never heard of it before but I will not go back to a regular brush for simple brushing (you can't heat style with it). read more

I get my hair done by Sam C and she is amazing! She listens and cares about what you want. I've had issues with other stylists/colorists in the past with my blonde hair (aka too ashy or too yellow.) Not Sam! She takes her time (lots of foils) and gets it right. Plus to top it all off she's fun and super sweet! Sam also did my hair and makeup for my wedding day and it turned out incredible, seriously incredible. People said I looked 'stunning' and I sure felt that way. Like a movie star! I asked to have a natural look, and she pulled it off to perfection. Sam will listen to what you want and if you don't like certain things just let her know. She wants you to be happy and beautiful for your wedding day! My hair and makeup stayed all day and all night, literally. I've only had one hairstylist for the past 3 years, but I moved to New Orleans. So I had to find a new stylist on my own. After going through reviews, j-Elle seemed safe, so I booked whoever was available at a time I could come. Sadie was absolutely WONDERFUL! I have very fine/thin hair texture, and I needed someone who was good with clippers to give me a fade (like most gay guys, of course). She nailed it and left me with extra knowledge and how to achieve a more full head of hair. She was also a joy to talk to while I was on the chair and took plenty of time to discuss my options! They also chopped off 2 inches of her hair. She left with a terrible color AND her hair wasn't soft nor healthy after whatever was put in it. I was visiting family in New Orleans and booked an appointment with the salon and they were quite accommodating. BRIDGET WAS SUPERB! She used the right products on my hair and styled it beautifully. While I was there, I also got the chance to see the other stylists work on their respective clients and the stylists results were very good. This salon is a full service salon and excellent choice to have either your hair done (Brazilian Blowout or just a blowout), a facial, makeup application, the works if you wish. I can pretty much only answer the question of "Who does your hair?!" so many times before I have to make a PSA about it. I have been going to Lauren Moulton for a little under 2 years now and I will continue to visit this salon as long as I live in New Orleans, in fact I'd probably fly back if I had to. When I first started going to her my hair was very long and very dark. She slowly lightened me up to a beautiful golden blonde and then about a year later gave me the most perfect, swing bob, the first time I've had hair that short since I've been out of Pampers. It was exactly what I was looking for! Most recently she took me from blonde to brunette with rich colors and to-die-for dimension. Every where I go people are either asking me who does my hair or complementing it, including other stylists! One of my favorite things about Lauren is her vision, I can tell her a brief description of what I want, maybe show her a picture or two and she nails it EVERYTIME. I wouldn't trust anyone else do to the dramatic changes has made for me. Everyone in the salon is very friendly and they all work well together as a team. If you are looking for a new stylist in the G.N.O. area I would 100% recommend Salon J-elle. The salon is in a good location, parking has never been a problem for me, they are constantly evolving and growing in their services, they stay up on trends and products and the prices are reasonable.
