Love this restaurant!! It is very homey and they have delicious food that tasted fresh. I wish I knew about this spot when I lived in San Antonio because I would've added it to my rotation. It's very cute , casual, and cozy in here. Big menu with lots of things to try! Quick and friendly service.

John the Greek has sooo much potential to be the standout option on the Greek food scene with some simple adjustments. The best thing about John The Greek is the variety! There are items on the menu that you won't find anywhere else in the city. We even had saganaki that was flambéed tableside, like they do at many Greek restaurants across the country- but not here because there's no other proper Greek restaurant that provides tableside service anyway. The excitement of having saganaki took a nosedive when we realized it was wrapped in phyllo. This "twist" doesn't do anything for the dish, but probably allows them to use a lesser quality cheese by protecting it with phyllo so it doesn't disintegrate. I ordered the beef souvlaki, labeled as a fillet mignon cut. I should have known better. Filet sounds good and brings a higher price point, and it's great as a "steak" but not ideal for souvlaki. It was chewy, impossible to wrap in some pita and bite through- you had to take in the whole chunk! It's famously easy to cut with a knife but the structure of a filet makes it resistant to tearing, which is essentially what teeth do. If they want a higher price point, they should use ribeye. If they want a flavorful, traditional, more authentic beef souvlaki, they should use sirloin. That's not something I would order again. Presentation could use a lot of work. My plate came out looking like it had come from a cafeteria line. It's a sit-down restaurant so I expected it to look like what other sit-down restaurants do (even the Greek ones elsewhere). Ambiance could also use improvement. At the front of the dining area there's a bunch of "stuff" that they store - high chairs, tubs of cutlery, etc. There's got to be a better place to keep them, not front and center. Overall, the food was OK, not great. I do know my way around Greek food and restaurants, having come from an area and background with a high Greek population, a Greektown, and gyros shops as popular as taquerias are here. When the owner overheard me pronounce galaktoboureko correctly, he snapped his head so fast I thought he might hurt himself! I'm not saying the food here is bad by any means, and I would definitely go back, but it makes me sad that there's so much potential for greatness with just some small improvements. Also, the menu on the website is completely off. It doesn't list at least half of the options and it doesn't list the various combos that are available.

This restaurant has fast and friendly service. When I walked in, I felt like I was in Greece. The place is so beautifully decorated. I ordered the 10A. It was a gyro with fries and a drink. The gyro was mad fresh and fast. I absolutely love their tzatziki sauce. I consider this place a 10 out of 10!

More dinner plates including chicken, pork, and seafood.

Their menu prices are a liiittle different than what's listed here. I got the chicken gyro and hummus. The side hummus is $11 and comes with a little bit of cut up pita bread to go with it. The gyro was alright.

Solid Greek spot. Humble, authentic, delicious. 10 out of 10 would return again. Service was very friendly, the hero was predictably delicious.

One of our favorites. The service is always great and they are always welcoming. Quiet and quaint restaurant. The food is always good. I usually get the chicken gyro plate but I changed it up and I'm glad I did. I found another great meal. We will definitely come again.

My son and I came with my parents for lunch and it was so much fun to take in all of the murals and decorations. The staff was warm and welcoming, providing wonderful service. Their lunch special menu is fantastic, I had the lamb gyro, side salad, their lemon/chicken/rice soup and a drink. It was delicious! My son enjoyed his kids chicken kebab and fries. My parents loved their meals and topped it off with baklava with we all shared and loved. It wasn't too sweet so it hit the spot. I wish I took more pics but I was enjoying my food so much I forgot. We will definitely be back to our local Greek spot!

The combo appetizer is the best dish to order for sharing and getting to try authentic and delicious Greek flavors. We always have a great time here with very upbeat and friendly servers and manager who goes around checking on everyone. The patio is so nice we always choose to sit outside and it's even heated over the winter.

This past Monday, hubby had dinner with friends so it was Daddy-daughter dinner for us. I took Dad to @johnthegreeksa for dinner. It's been a while since we last visited. Dad and I both had Lemonade. I ordered the Sampler Plate for us, which had the hummus, Tirkokafteri, Skordalia, and Tzatziki with two pitas. Most of this was soft for Dad. He had forgotten he had tried these before. I also ordered the Traditional Gyro with the avgolemono soup, which was chicken, rice, celery, carrots, eggs, and lemon sauce. Dad enjoyed the soup and we shared the gyro. We were already full so no desserts for us. Maybe next time!

We had a meeting here tonight for a church men's group of about 10 people. I have never been here before even though I've lived in the area for many years. I had always heard good things about this place and those reports were true. Very good food and excellent service. The restaurant is very casual and comfortable as is the food which is delicious! My only regret is not trying the Greek coffee and any of their desserts, which looked fabulous! I will make sure that those are on the list for the next time I come.

My friends and I decided to try John the Greek while in San Antonio as it was a place we hadn't been before. The staff was very friendly and did a great job and the restaurant itself was nice and casual as well. While dining at John the Greek, I tried the following: - Lamb Meatballs w/ Tzatiki: Delicious! - Lunch Special (Traditional gyro, greek salad, french fries and drink): The salad was good and fresh, the french fries were OK and the meat was a bit dry but all together it was a good lunch - Cookies/ Desserts: The desserts at the front counter looked good but ended up being pretty dry. I wouldn't order these again.

My son had the Athenian burger. He was not impressed at all. It was supposed to be an Angus burger topped with what would normally be on a Gyro. It left him, wishing he had just gone straight for a Gyro instead. He found the meat dry and flavorless. He also wasn't a fan of the feta fries. He said all he tasted was too much salt. I ordered the classic Greek salad. I guess I should have read the ingredients before I trusted this place to make it. It had more Romain lettuce ribs then anything else. I was not expecting any lettuce at all. They need to take the word classic off of it. It was supposed to come with pita bread. It came with those little flat rubbery pieces of tortilla - like pita. I also ordered a spanakopita for us to split. What they served us was a very soggy pastry with almost no filling. Once again, not impressed. There are too many great places to get Greek food in San Antonio. We won't be back to this one.

We visited on a Wednesday evening with a party of five and experienced a short 15-20 minute wait, but the food made it well worth it. Before our reservation, I discovered Ladino had earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, so expectations were slightly raised. Our table opted for the Table of Joy, a four-course experience we dubbed a Mediterranean culinary journey. From pita and dips to cold and hot meze, mangal entrees, and assorted desserts, every course brought fun and surprising flavors. I can't speak to the authenticity of the dishes but I consider myself a bit of an amateur-expert in delicious food--and this place did not disappoint! Pita & Dips: The beet muhammara was light and refreshing, while the fire-roasted corn and tirshi were table favorites. The pita itself? Hands down, best pita I've ever had. Cold & Hot Meze: The red snapper crudo and kibbeh nayeh (beef tartare) were my personal favorites. I challenge anyone one the fence about tartare to try--just add a squeeze of lemon, scoop it onto the gem lettuce, and prepare to be transformed. Mangal Entrees: The biggest surprise was the mushroom shawarma. I'm not huge on mushrooms or meatless entrees, but this dish completely won me over. The textures and flavors were beautifully executed. We also enjoyed the Wagyu steak, saffron chicken, and pork souvlaki. The pork stood out for its tenderness and the delicious charred aroma that complemented the spices. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of these entrees. Desserts: We finished with the ice cream sandwich, supangle, and olive oil cake. The cake was light and buttery, balanced by fresh peaches, while the supangle, a chocolate pudding made with local Texas honey was a table favorite. Final Verdict: Ladino is a must-try for anyone seeking an exciting dining experience in San Antonio. I'll definitely be back--and next time, I'm trying the duck. Don't mind the photos of the half eaten dishes--I got overly excited and forgot to take pictures before digging in.

The eggplant doesn't look appetizing to most, but I love its flavor and it was seasoned nicely with some acidity/brightness to it. For our entrees, we had the falafel plate and a gyro wrap. My gyro wrap was a good serving size, and I opted for no fries/side salad since we had the appetizer. It was a traditional gyro, but I wish there were lettuce and tomato in it to cut the saltiness.
