I went there October 23 so that he could help me get an MRI for my foot. Which I injured while sprinting. I was part of a 30 day sprint challenge. I said I wanted to see a neurologist as well to do a nerve conduction test, but I wanted to get an MRI first. I don't need a referral to see neurologist I could've done that first without ever seeing this doctor. I called multiple times letting him know that my foot hurts and to please help me with the MRI. It took two weeks for them to tell me that the only way he will order an MRI is if the nerve conduction test warrants an MRI. Are you kidding me I injured soft tissue in the arch of my foot during the sprint challenge and you won't order an MRI to examine it. X-ray showed no injuries because it is a soft tissue issue. What a waste of time. The doctor was not friendly. The patient forms they have you fill out are all focused towards people who are addicted to drugs who don't show up for appointments. I guess he thinks that of all patients. I won't be going back. What a poor standard of care. When I get an MRI if/when it shows an issue I will file a complaint. read more

SCHOONMAKER I need to find me another Primary Care Provider. Dr. John Schoonmaker works out of the Murrieta Office of Dr. Bridget Briggs. I don't know why in all these years, I've never seen Dr. Briggs, but once. She was the reason I switched to this office. Long story short. I have been sent out to see a Neurosurgeon today. I have a disc protrusion. Dr. Schoonmaker walked in and found me filling out an application for a disabled placard. He snatched it away from me and asked me what I was doing. I told him that Cynthia gave it to me and I was filling it out. He told me I would never get approved for it and set the clip board down. Later he said he doesn't make the decisions that DMV does. Well we all know that. I felt it was his job to fill it out with me. We went over some MRI results and he told me he would get Claudia to help me with the placard application. He or she never came back. Cynthia was great. She gave me all my paperwork as requested. I don't know who Tricare has on their list to look at my MRI results, but this office of Dr. Briggs and associates is the absolute worst medical experience I've had in all my years. I wrote a review (a nice one ) on Dr. Briggs hoping they would get the hint. They have not. The girls in there are always scurrying away like little mice. They have no personality or means to communicate. I absolutely would not go back to this office. Tricare stated to me, today that Schoonmaker is NOT in their network. The only reason I see him, is because he works out of Dr. Brigg's office, in Murrieta. Not sure what is going on? I have been in so much pain these past few months. I find it hard to believe that DMV will turn me away for my condition. Yes, it's back pain, Sciatic nerve pain. Piriformis Syndrome, and so much more going on....So much so, that he refers me out to a neurosurgeon. Who can help me if my Dr. won't? read more

Let me just save you the pain....find another dr!! I came in as a new patient and right away did not have a good impression. The front desk lady (I will find out her name) was not friendly, welcoming, nice, or any of the above. I filled out all paperwork 40 minutes prior to my apt which was scheduled at 10 am. They called me back at 10:25- 40 minutes later I am still sitting in a patient exam room waiting to be seen. I poked my head out and asked how much longer it was going to be and that all I needed was a vaccination. The medical assistant (Lora) came out from another room and said "she needs to be seen. You'll be next!" I said okay my apt was at 10 am. She said to me very sarcastically with a rude facial expression "were running just a little behind." I said a lot behind...and the wait continues! Just save yourself. Go to an office they will be respectful not only in their actions but of your time! This office is completely unprofessional. The front desk help, Bonnie refused to check me in because she had people she was helping for 10 minutes prior to my appointment. I came in exactly at my appointment time with my paperwork completed like she had told me to do the day before when I brought my daughter to the doctors office. It was a complete waste of my time! I would not recommend this doctors office due to the highly unprofessional front desk personal Bonnie! You can't trust the front desk personal to be honest with you. Also to make you feel embarrassed in front of other patients. I've never been treated so poorly at a physicians office. Stay away!! I normally go to Dr Briggs office in Murrieta however found out they now have an office on Temecula Pkwy which is closer to me. I called needing to be seen same day and twice I got into this office on Temecula pkwy and both times the experience was great. The front desk gal that answers the phone and greets you when you walk in is friendly and very sweet. The girls at the Murrieta office are not always warm and fuzzy to say the least so this was a refreshing change. I was in and out of the office within 30 minutes. It is so rare nowadays to be seen immediately same day and get in and out in a timely fashion. Somehow Drs office seem to always value their time but not ours. Anyhoo the only negative is they do not currently have a female nurse practitioner. I definitely recommend giving this location a try! read more

Schoonmaker is now in Hemet, taking the place of Dr. McKenzie. I am now the patient of this doctor (Schoonmaker) after my favorite doctor ever, left. This 1-Star rating is based on my comparison of the many doctors I have been to as well as the staff. I definitely miss Dr. Mckensie and his staff as they were all great in my opinion, especially compared to other doctors/staff I have dealt with. Dr. Schoonmaker spent time listening to my many issues with health during our first visit, (even though he has my entire file at hand dating back to 2008) and I have continued with follow-up appointments and, I'm NOT HAPPY! I have been on medication for several years and this doctor decides to cut my dosage down. That doesn't work for me! I call to get the dose raised back up to original dose and, he can't change meds without office visit? (Insurance fraud)? This is Not true because he lowered my dose without me seeing him! This Dr. has issues with prescriptions and tries to remove you from necessary medication, from many many years of diagnosis. Switched doctors today! read more

I first started seeing Dr Schoonmaker when he was at Dr. Briggs office in Murrieta. He is now in Temecula and I am very happy with the new office. I can make an appointment on my lunch and I am in and out in no time. Dr. and staff are very nice, knowledgeable and helpful. read more

I went to see Dr Schoonmaker for my "Welcome to Medicare" physical exam visit in January 2017. Medicare lays out what the doctor should do at this visit and what I can request. My insurance company told me that the doctor will know all about the "Welcome to Medicare" exam visit services he should provide along with lab work that can be ordered (when I asked Dr. Schoonmaker about this he said he has never heard of a "Welcome to Medicare" visit !!!!???). After signing in, the unsmiling receptionist chastised me for not arriving 30 minutes (instead of 20) prior to my visit to complete the paperwork. The many multi-page paperwork was intensive and detailed. Wow, I thought; they really want to know my background health and that of all my immediate relatives. Very thorough, I thought. I knew all the answers yet it still took me over 30 minutes to complete. I wrote on this paperwork four current health issues I wanted addressed during my visit. I was shown to a waiting room at 1:45pm (my appointment was at 1:30pm). I waited 10 minutes before Dr. Schoonmaker arrived. His demeanor was very pleasant. Very likable guy. However, the only physical part of my physical exam was him using his stethoscope to listen to my heart. That's it! Didn't look at my eyes or ears or throat or skin, etc. Every physical exam I have had since I was in my 40s I would have to get in to a hospital gown so that the doctor would be able to look at my entire body and do a digital rectum exam for prostrate enlargement. Not here, even though I listed a shoulder injury and an ear issue on the intensive paperwork I completed for them. I think he did not even look at any of the paperwork. I had brought with me 20 years of physical exams and other medical records, which I had organized based on the medical services rendered. He left me to have copies made of my last two physical exams. Then the nurse came in and said I was done. I told her I wasn't. Said to send the doctor in again. I then told Schoonmaker my ear issue (which I listed on the paperwork they gave me and which I completed but he apparently didn't read or care to ask about). Upon inspection, he said he was 95% sure that I have basil cell carcinoma in my ear canal, and he gave me a referral to a dermatologist. Thank god I mentioned this to him! He then left again. The nurse came in again and said I was done. I told her I wasn't and to send the doc in again. Still with a very nice demeanor, he came back in whereupon I told him what about the digital rectum exam (which I don't like having done, but better to catch prostrate cancer early then being dead early). He said he stopped doing them, and stopped ordering PSAs; said he doesn't believe they help predict prostrate cancer. OK, but what does an older guy do to try to not die from the number one cancer killer of men? He said to watch for urine flow and frequency. That's it. Well, ok. So I then asked him what lab tests he will run. After hearing his list of tests, I insisted on the PSA, and Vitamin D (my is usually low, which he would have known that if he read the paperwork I completed), and testosterone level to see if below normal. I then informed him that per the "Welcome to Medicare" rules that I have to, during my visit, ask for two referrals for an AAAS and EKG tests. I wanted them for preventative screenings So I asked him for the referrals, and he refused; said I don't need them. I then asked for a referral to a physical therapist because of my shoulder injury. He gave me the referral. End of visit. So, in conclusion, I don't know whether this cursory physical exam is the result of my having, for the first time in my life, an HMO health insurance policy and/or Dr. Schoonmaker's approach to physical exams of male Seniors. Whatever the cause I know that I would never have another physical exam with him. My life is too important to me. read more

I saw Dr Mckenzie for over 8 years he had recently left the practice . I was very saddened that he left so suddenly. In my opinion he was the best doctor a disabled patient like me could ask for. He really cared about his patients and took his time with them. Dr Schoonmaker took over his practice and I quickly realized the place wasn't the same. I continued to go there for over 6 months. I Came to realize He doesn't care about his patients and he most certainly doesn't take there concerns and questions into consideration. I have heard this from many other people so I know it wasn't just a bad experience with myself and the doctor. He is in it strictly for the money like a lot of doctors are nowadays. I am a very sick person I need oxygen every where I go and can not stand for more then a couple minutes. So I have many medications that are prescribed to me. So When I Found out that I could not get several prescriptions filled I was terrified. They refused to respond to the pharmacy for weeks. It took several phone calls and me actually driving 120 miles back and fourth to there office just to get one simple phone call so my medicine could be refilled. Three months Prior to this I had made an appointment to get my blood work done for my diabetes and thyroid. Two days before my appointment I got a call from the office telling me that they don't take my insurance anymore. So I am absolutely stranded with no doctor. They are completely unprofessional and I'm disappointed in what that place has turned into. I would never recommend this to anyone. read more
