He explained that the pop-up drain was doing what it was designed to do, but the excess water had found an easier path underground, which also explained a soft depression nearby (this was causing a lot of soil erosion on my neighbor's property). He then spent a great deal of time walking me through the remedy: where to dig, how deep and wide to make the area, how to use gravel and plants, and how to install deeper edging so the water would disperse properly instead of gushing toward my neighbor's property.
