Ask the Community - John Joseph Coffee

Do you serve pour-over coffee?

You bet they do. We have it all the time. Sensitivity to caffeine and health concerns caused us to go decaf which is prepared as a pour over method. Now I'll tell you I prefer the "press" method but pour over is just fine.

Stopped at this stylish bar/restaurant last night with three friends after attending an art opening…read moredown the street. Took a while to get seated, as the attendant seemed to be busy carrying out plates of food and making drinks at the end of the bar. After getting seated, we ordered drinks and three entrees (two specialty salads, a pasta meal, and a burger). The drinks came relatively fast, but the service on the food was incredibly slow. Well over an hour's wait. At one point I guessed, "They must be growing lettuce for the salad." Food arrived, but incorrectly prepared on one of the salads. The server offered "I specifically told them dressing on the side...I can bring it back and get it made over." We had already waited well over an hour, so we just took it as it was fearing an even longer delay. Actually, three of the meals were quite good (except for the overpriced and totally unremarkable burger), but I doubt any of us will return after the sluggish service. It was such a lengthy wait for the food and the server was so harried and overworked that ordering desserts was not offered. We had to get up and walk in search of a way to pay our bill. Good food, but that does not in itself make for a great dining experience.

What a hidden gem! We had an event here and the room was perfect. The staff was attentive and just…read morewonderful but the food was the star--10/10! Crazy good fork tender meatballs, fresh bruschetta that was amazing. The best shrimp cocktail and sauce I can remember and impressive charcuterie--was really great and would highly recommend for any private event. Looking forward to returning to try the brunch --several mentioned it was wonderful

Store is clean up to date. New walk in beer cooler is amazing. Most employees are friendly and…read morehelpful. Selection is great, and fresh meats are spectacular and fairly priced. If you have never had the deli's Broasted Chicken is THE BEST!!!! Smelling it as you drive past is brutal to resist. The older women in the deli recognize us, we love them. Meats, cheeses, salads, and fries from deli are delicious too. Local flair and local foods...highly recommend!!!!!!!

As far as small-town grocery stores go, this Sentry is a couple of decades behind the times. Over…read morethe four years that I have worked in Prairie du Sac, I have repeatedly sworn off this Sentry in favor of the nicer and newer Piggly Wiggly in Sauk City. The store manager is surprisingly rude, though I will give the employees credit for having a nice demeanor most of the time. Unfortunately for them, their store is dingy and dated. The layout is in the typical 70's era fashion. I never did any significant grocery shopping at this store, but when I did need to pick up certain items it was always hit-or-miss, since the selection was never all that good. The produce area was not terrible, though I don't recall ever seeing organic. I used to frequent the deli for lunch quite often since it was a quick walk, but the food was generally mediocre and occasionally terrible. Most of the food was either fried or broiled. There were a few instances where I was impressed, but these were unfortunately few and far between. I recall there would be sandwich specials from time to time, including turkey with sun-dried tomato and provelone. These were quite good, but it was only a rare occurrence and most days you would have to settle for the same-old. I sometimes would try the pre-made cold sandwiches and salads, but these were never good. I now make it a point to either bring in my lunch or drive to Sauk City rather than go back to the bad old days at the Sentry.
