I had my first visit with Dr. John Ko two weeks ago and I was very pleased! First off the staff are very friendly, caring, and professional. I felt very welcomed and at ease. Dr. Ko has a very calming presence and you feel at ease in his dental office. He also did a great job in explaining the process of what happens during a root canal and the next steps of adding a crown. I'll be visiting again this week again to add the permanent crown on top of my tooth! A bonus is that they have massage dental chairs, which is a nice touch. Earnest in their dedication to give the best treatment and has a family like atmosphere. When I brought up a random concern during the cleaning, John Ko and his assistants actually took additional time to check on the issue which resulted in going past their normal work hours. I had a persistent problematic filling where food kept getting stuck around it which led to pressure pain, and I was able to fix that problem here by replacing the filling and getting a crown (I somehow thought this would be lifetime issue). We arrived here because the previous dentists we had delivered poor quality of work. So far, after one visit I can tell you that they are all VERY nice people; they were attentive and very thorough-- looking at all previous work done and noting any problem areas, while being thoughtful in their delivery. This review pertains to the extreme inconvenience and miscommunication I experienced during a recent emergency visit that I made to this office to have a temporary crown placed on my tooth after it fell off. I called the office first thing 8 am the morning after my crown came off. I explained to the receptionist that I wanted to have a temporary crown placed on it as soon as possible before I left for vacation in a few days. She said I could come in that afternoon to do this, and that she would also schedule a cleaning at the same time. I thought "great"! I arrived on time and was immediately placed in the chair for a cleaning. The hygienist did the cleaning and then I thought "great now to get a temporary crown put in before I go on vacation next week"! WRONG! Then, the dentist walks in, takes a quick peek at my tooth (all of 30 seconds literally!), and says "ok we will schedule another appointment to see you next week". REALLY? I said, but wait, aren't you going to put a temporary crown on me now? He says, no, we will do that next week. I said, but won't my tooth possibly suffer further damage if it is exposed? He said "no". And that was that. So now I've got to come in for a total of 3 appointments at this point when he could have accomplished everything in just 2 appointments! Long story short I came back the following week to get the temp crown put on, and told him I was disappointed he couldn't do it last week. He said "do you still want me to do the work?" Are you kidding me? Like why would I waste my time coming in and allow myself to be seated in the dental chair if I didn't want him to do the work? So now I'm totally upset and I said "no, I guess I don't want you to do the work!" And I left. It was about 2:39 pm by this time and I immediately called my former dentist who is about 15 miles further away (which is why I changed to DR Ko due to his office being next to my work). My previous dentist said "why don't you come in tonight? I can get you in at 7:30 pm if that's not too late for you, and put a temporary crown on you tonight before you leave for vacation because we don't want acid and bacteria to get into that tooth while you are on vacation." So my previous dentist definitely puts patient health before his own personal schedule and in addition, because he sympathizes with the patient he offers to discount my co-pay amount by 50% which DR Ko made up a lame excuse why he couldn't do that which I know for a fact is completely untrue. Anyway, this office just gave me the impression that they are hungry for your money and could care less about inconveniencing you by making you come in for more appointments than would otherwise be necessary to do the exact same work (e.g, the receptionist squeezed me in for a "billable cleaning" on a separate appointment from my temporary crown placement which was the whole point of me going there in the first place!) So, if you want to go to a greedy dentist who is more concerned with maximizing his billable fees and doing things on his own convenient schedule instead of accommodating your schedule, then this is the dentist for you! But, if you want great dental work, a dentist that goes the extra mile, and will occasionally discount his fees out of sympathy for your budget, then look elsewhere. read more

I do not have dental insurance, but was in agonizingly chronic pain from a tooth that just had to go. My jaw was swollen from this one tooth and no matter how much Orajel I used, it wasn't getting better, and yes, I understand Orajel is not a cure, it's simply numbing medicine. I went to 1-800-DENTIST and they promptly recommended a few dentists in the area, but I decided to go with Dr. Ko because his office is not only across the street from where I work, but I read his reviews here on Yelp and based on that alone, I decided he's worth looking into. I called the office to ask questions regarding payments (a big concern thanks to lack of insurance) and they said I had some options. Still have to pay the full price for the procedures, but was able to work out a payment plan, thank GOD! I spoke to Darlene on the phone and, let me tell you, she is one of the sweetest little ladies you will ever meet! I always smile when I speak to her because her optimism is very contagious! Maria and Dr. Ko were both very attentive and gentle as can be, as well. I had to be put on Amoxicillin one week prior to my procedure since I have a heart murmur, but I expected that. At least I didn't swell when they extracted three teeth from the same side of my mouth! That's right, three at once. My teeth are a mess. As I explained to Dr. Ko, my mouth is like a horror movie! Dr. Ko and Maria also excercised great patience when I was having trouble getting numb. They ended up having to do a total of four injections of the local anesthesia (I didn't want to be gassed up). However, once they were finally able to start my procedure, everything went as smooth as can be and there was no pain (that is, until the anesthesia wore off). At the last minute, two of the extraction turned into oral surguries, but they did not charge me extra. I still have to have about $5,000 worth of dental work to go, but we're off to a good start and I will only let Dr. Ko and his team do my dental work. All in all, very friendly, extremely proffessional staff that work with you no matter what. This is exactly how every doctor and dentist should be. My wife attended this dentistry and overall happy with the quality of service of the dentist and this review is more related with office practices and policies that you should aware when make an appointment to this place. Some context of the situation that is common everywhere: 1. Cleaning appointments happens regularly each 6 months and it is common to schedule in advance. 2. Given the big amount of time normally you get a reminder, typically a call before you appointment to remind you the appointment. 3. There is a no show up policy will charge you $75 dollars which has totally sense due you commit to assist to the appointment and it incur in a loss if you no sho up. Here is the problem: it is expected you get a reminder, in our case nothing and appointment was schedule just after the end of the end of the year holidays. However it was completely forgotten and a text message two hours earlier on the same day day of the appointment. So we called to inform we were not able to make the appointment and need to reschedule. But the office assistant claimed because the policy it need to be informed 48h before which happened exactly during holidays. Generally any dentist office I have been they called and inform in advance of the appointment (mail message and phone call) but we never got a reminder and on most cases they tend to waive at first occurrence to keep the costumer relationship. I tried to politely to waive the fee given the conditions (holidays and never got a reminder) but office assistant keep relying on the policy and when tried to speak just got mad claiming I was interrupting her and hang up the phone so it was not possible to speak with her. I don't recommend this place, I have had better costumer experience other places. I completely understand the no show fee but given 6 months periods I was expecting communication comes in both ways and given how rude was the assistant I recommend check somewhere else or if you like the dentist never make appointments 6 months in advance. read more

My husband and I, and our children have been patients of Dr. Ko's for the past 12 years, and have only glowing remarks about his expertise, professionalism, care, concern and always personable and honest remarks about our dental issues. His office atmosphere is professional, clean, inviting, comfortable and easily accessible. Furthermore, his entire staff is personable, friendly and industrious! I have always been a perfectionist about my teeth and cared for them well. I brushed and flossed regularly and had my teeth cleaned by Dr. Ko's very knowledgeable hygienist Maria, twice a year. Furthermore, I used Crest White Strips to keep my smile bright! Unfortunately, I'm 72 years old, and some very old dental fillings, on the backside of my six front teeth fell out recently! I was very upset and didn't know if I should have them all refilled, or have porcelain crowns instead. I made up my mind, along with my husband (who knows how vain I have always been) , to go with the porcelain crowns. ( After all, the cost of re-filling those teeth and having them show on the outside would have made me very uncomfortable and unhappy) ! The porcelain crowns on my front six upper front teeth, are beautiful! Dr. Ko did a very painless, intricate and beautiful job. He was certain to get the shade to my liking, which was 'off the charts white' ! Also, he had the technician that worked on them at the lab, polish them to perfection! Dr. Ko also realized that my husband needed a specialist to save his teeth from having to be pulled, after noticing that his gum problems were getting worse, and needed to be addressed by a specialist. He then gave my husband the name of a specialist that was involved with the state-of-the-art saving of one's teeth. (This was not dental implants.) My husband's teeth , as well as mine were saved by Dr. Ko's expertise and care. Dr. Ko has become our loyal and trusted dentist and friend over the years. We trust him explicitly! One of the best experiences I've had visiting a health care professional. Darlyne at his front office is a delight to talk to and exceptionally organized. She knew me on a first name basis as soon as I walked into the office. I waited all of 2 minutes before seeing Dr. Ko and one of his assistants. They used what probably is the most modern dental imaging equipment available and Dr. Ko took the time to explain everything to me. Hes a good guy - he played Ice Hockey growing up. Next I met with the Dental Hygienist, Maria, who also took her time to do the job right. The office has a synergy about it were everyone is professional and exceptional at what they do- there are no rough corners. I come here every 6 months to have my teeth cleaned by Maria (dental hygienist) and she does such an exceptional job! She's very thorough and very gentle! She's been a hygienist for over 20 years and really knows how to clean your teeth properly. I've been to some pretty bad hygienists and they just don't compare to Maria. A '5+Stars' is given to Dr. Ko - and his impressive staff! His position is, 'not just as an exceptional dentist' but with a heart for his patients. In times past, i've always experienced unnecessary pain with other previous dental visits. As a result, i've ignored having my teeth upgraded for many years - but then was forced into a position to have a more presentable appearance. During my visit, no discomfort was experienced. After mentioning that more 'booster injections' were required in order to eliminate the pain, Dr. Ko resolved the issue. No pain with the injections, & no pain during the procedure. I am looking forward to future visits. After a recent exam with another dentist & then comparing other quotes, his prices are very reasonable. I love, love, love this dentist and his fabulous staff! The front office (Darlene) is such a sweetheart and is so accommodating in making appointments. The Dental Hygienist (Maria) is great! My teeth always feel as good as new after cleanings. The Dental Assistant (I forget her name...sorry) is a true gem too ! And I can't say enough about Dr. Ko....he is phenomenal!
