What started as Dad purchasing ring for me when I was admitted into graduate school, over the next 20 years grew to my family owning over 30 pieces (lost count) that include gifts for Mom and sisters for Christmas, birthdays and their anniversaries and for gifts for various accomplishments in my life and career. Dad knew and only purchased quality. He also preferred to shop with local businesses where he could build a relationship, and as I have learned a legacy that will endure after they have passed. In those 20 years I came to appreciate that each piece was unique, beautifully designed and crafted and well priced as was each experience of each purchase. I came to appreciate, as Dad knew, that can't do that much business without becoming familiar with the team members that works at the various stores, including John and his immediate family. Dad started with Cherry Creek and then followed his favorite sales staff to Park Meadows while I grew a relationship with the staff at the Larimer Square, Cherry Creek North and mostly with the the Cherry Creek Mall Store; not with just one person but with a team of that came to appreciate our continued patronizing of their stores. When Dad passed and then 4 years later Mom followed, among the many treasured valuables left to me and my two sisters was more than a collection of rings, bracelets, necklaces and bracelets but rather jewelry that is now part of their legacy of love that are more valuable now than the day they were purchased and given to us. Recently, I begin to bring in various pieces for cleaning, adjustments and stone upgrades and found once again a level of service that some store only give you when you purchase new pieces. Its that level of service of for a collection that now as tremendous sentiment attached to them. It is not just about the jewelry but about a 20+ year relationship with sales staff who care more about the individuals and family than the sale. We had a gorgeous John Atencio "Dazzle" engagement ring & wedding band that we didn't need, and were selling to a young man. He met us at the Atencio store in Cherry Creek on a weekday afternoon. There were four women in the store, and not a single customer. The two women in the front of the store were sitting at a desk about two feet from the counter where the three of us were standing, waiting for help. They ignored us. I asked if they would just look at the rings to verify they were authentic John Atencio. I had to ask about three times before the lady reluctantly stood up and faced us. She was extremely unfriendly. Did not ever make eye contact. Was clearly put out that we'd asked her to help. She finally looked at the rings, and made a point of acting irritated at us. She then told our buyer that she could verify the settings, but not the diamonds, because we could have changed them! It was something we'd never thought of, or the buyer, but the lady made a point of saying it, which discouraged the buyer. Good thing he trusted us, and bought the rings. Maybe she wanted to take the sale from us. He asked the lady if they offer a subscription maintenance plan for the rings. She very unpleasantly said No, only for our 'brand new' rings. She was extremely dismissive. John Atencio creates beautiful Jewelry. But go to a different store. Maybe the other ones don't judge and look down on customers like these women did, at Cherry Creek mall. An Atencio ring should be valued by the store, whether it's "new" or not. read more

My favorite diamond store. They have beautiful selections and friendly staff. We were in Colorado on vacation 3 years ago. I was shopping at Cherry Creek mall and happened to pass by John Atencio. I could not believe the selections he had. All gorgeous and so different. Very unique and talented artist. We went looking for an engagement ring and we ended up with They have completely adjusted my setting by adding sapphires to it which they picked the most brilliant stones cut from the same mother stone no color variation. When they found out I am an ICU nurse they suggested maybe a smaller setting and stone which was so surprising there was no up selling. They truly get that life and work affect these things! Bought an engagement and marriage ring there. Engagement ring was used and well worn, didn't expect to return it. Marriage ring was unused, never worn. Looked at maybe 3 times and lived in a safe. The relationship ended, buhu. I went to the store and found the model marriage ring they're selling. I came back looking to return it and they said no. Why? It's their product. Do they really think their products are so inferior that they won't even take it back? Do they expect me to buy my next ring there? They lost a customer, and losing me as a customer was worth tens of thousand of dollars in the jewelry business. I'm glad hey showed their true colors so early on so I could take my money elsewhere. We have admired the jewelry in this Cherry Creek John Atencio shop for many years, but had not had occasion to purchase anything until this Autumn. My daughter, now a senior in high school, got flooded with glossy catalogs filled with expensive, but generically-styled, class rings. Many of the rings in these class ring catalogs looked of questionable quality, and the really nice ones cost north of $1,000, and were styled more like an engagement than class ring. We finally decided that we could likely purchase a ring to customize our own unique class ring. She instantly thought of John Atencio, having been impressed by their designs in the past. Given the prices of the glossy-catalog-variety, I too preferred to find a higher-quality, more unique ring. We walked in and discovered Pam, our "jewelry fairy", as I now refer to her. Pam instantly understood our mission. She presented us with several options, and spent some time walking us through stone choices, engraving options, and approaches that would be reasonable. We landed on a ring from the Elements collection, and my daughter carefully selected three London Blue Topaz stones to be set in the ring. We then selected the engraving of her name, class year, and school name. We chose a font that would engrave tastefully, but also in such a way as to not detract from the ring's design. Once we placed our order, it took a few weeks - about six or so - to pick up the finished product, but we felt that time frame reasonable for such a customized piece. As we expected, the ring was worth the wait in every way. My daughter loves this piece and plans to wear it now and for many years to come. Her friends admire the ring, and it cost less than the least expensive glossy-catalog variety. In the end we spent a few hundred dollars, and have a beautiful, unique, customized piece that wound up being a special experience to create with our "jewelry fairy" Pam. I cannot tell you how wonderfully the staff treated us, and how much we appreciated their care and attention to a relatively low-dollar sale for a store that I am sure sells more in the thousands than hundreds. They also treated my daughter like the mature person she is, and never spoke down to her. Some stores do that with 17 and 18 year olds, but they understood my daughter was their customer and treated her like she mattered. We both really appreciated that high-touch and professional approach. In the process, we also learned quite a bit about rings, stones, and the process of putting a piece together.
