This is more an apology than a review.... I've been a patient of Dr K's for many years and I am ashamed of myself for not ever giving him a review. He deserves to be recognized for his kindness and professionalism! Dr K, I'm sorry that I have not taken the time to thank you for the many years of excellent care and service you've provided for myself, and my whole family. You've been amazing! Not only for your quality of care, but for genuinely caring about us. I'll be forever grateful for your attentiveness and expertise. A couple of years ago, you found an anomaly when my husband came to see you. You quickly sent him to a specialist that remedied what could have become an even bigger problem with his sight in the future! I'm sorry for not taking the time to leave a review. When our son came for his first eye appt, we'll never forget the day he got his first glasses. He put them on and on the ride home, he exclaimed, "This what the world looks like?!?!" I'm sorry for not sharing that milestone in a review! Bottom line... don't let those negative reviews keep you from missing out on a great doctor!!! And for those that complain about waiting ... You'll wait in a ridiculous line for the latest and greatest iPhone release or Starbucks Bearista cup, but God forbid you wait your turn at Dr K's!? Get your priorities straight! The worst experience I have had in 25 years of wearing glasses. Not only did I have to wait over an hour for a scheduled appointment, but Dr Katzaroff gave me a prescription that was so off, I couldn't read at all. I scheduled another appt. with him and again had to wait almost an hour. The second prescription was as bad as the first. Since then, I've left several messages trying to resolve this, but he has not returned my calls. I am now out several hundred dollars and I am starting all over with a more competent optometrist. BTW, when I told my daughter this story I found out that she too had a HORRIBLE experience with DR. K and wound up having to go to another optometrist for a new prescription. Lastly, if after reading this you are foolish enough to go there, wear a snow suit. He keeps his office at near arctic temperatures. When I asked him why it was so cold, he answered it was the only way he could keep himself awake. I think it's not working. Dr. K is asleep at the switch. read more

I had such a fabulous experience here! Arrived about 10 minutes early to my appointment and received some paperwork to fill out. Brenda at the front desk is fabulous--as is the wonderful optometrist I had the pleasure of receiving my eye exam from (I wish I got her name but she is a younger woman and had super cute circular glasses frames!). I expressed to the doctor that my previous prescription I received 4+ years ago from an entirely different doctor (under insurance) felt a bit too strong, and it had felt strong ever since I got those glasses. After doing some tests, she proceeded to tell me that my previous prescription was for astigmatism...I definitely don't have astigmatism lol. No idea how that happened, but this doctor was able to adjust my new prescription right away. I even got to see the retinal scan/images that were taken of my eyes and it was fascinating! I had never been shown that before from any other doctor. Overall, the appointment was quick and easy, and the staff is very nice and attentive. For $95 (no insurance), it was well worth it! Will absolutely be coming to this location again in the future. No complaints--thank you! :) read more

The doctor is a great eye doctor located inside Costco. He's kind, easy going, and a nice guy. It's easy to set up an appointment. The doctor and the staff are laid back and easy going. The complete eye test was done. After, the staff prints you out what your results were, and just walk on over to the Optometry dept. They accept several different kinds of vision insurances which is a plus. Overall, the doctor, the staff, and the whole process is quick. What sometimes takes time is trying to figure out what style of glasses you would like. Other than that, it's smooth. read more

I don't want to age myself, but I've been coming to see Dr. John A Katzaroff for over 20 years. He's the nicest man and has been there with me throughout my optometry journey. I still remember being 12 years old and having the receptionist teach me how to put in my contacts for the first time. Anyways, now that story time is over, onto the review. You easily make an appointment in person or by calling the office. The contact exams are $109 and the glasses exam are $69. That is their amazing Costco membership price. Once given your glasses prescription, you can order glasses in the eyewear department or take your prescription and order elsewhere but I always get my glasses at Costco. They order them for you and come very fast. Today at my exam I learned I don't need contacts anymore since I had been wearing them originally for an eye condition I had called amblyopia. I was given a prescription for glasses just in case I want to get them in the future but I am going to try without them for now. I always looking forward to seeing Dr.Katzaroff. Dr. Katzaroff is the best eye doctor. His office is inside Northridge Costco. He is professional, accommodating and knowledgeable. He truly cares, listens to your concerns and he doesn't rush the appointment. He takes time to answer all my questions. My family and I have been going to him for over 15 years now. He also has wonderful staff who is as professional and accommodating. They also have the most advanced equipment called Optomap which covers a full retinal exam that can detect glaucoma, cataract, diabetes and other inherited health problems. This Optomap technology does not require eye drops and pupil dilation. I just love this quick eye procedure. read more

There isn't enough stars to rate the level of professionalism, knowledge and care that Dr. Katzaroff and his staff give their patients. I have a bit of a back story. I've been coming to Dr. Katzaroff for years! A few years back I came in for what I thought was going to be an update on my contact prescription. During my exam, Dr. Katzaroff discovered I had cataracts in both eyes! He told me to go to my ophthalmologist to let him know what he discovered and that I needed surgery on both, right eye first and then left. The ophthalmologist looked at me like I was crazy and said, "We'll see about that". Within a month, I had cataract surgery, right eye first, as Dr. Katzaroff had advised. He literally saved my vision! Today I went to get another check up from Dr. Katzaroff and to get a prescription for glasses to refine my vision, especially for night driving. I have been going to Dr. Katzaroff for a couple years now, and I have never had a bad experience with their facility. This optometry is a gem! Dr. Katzaroff and his associates always take the time to listen to my questions, and answer with clarity. My prescriptions have always been spot on, and they do make sure you go home happy! Not to mention how affordable their prices are for an eye exam! The receptionists have always been extremely friendly, and caring towards your needs. They welcome you with warm smiles, and make the whole trip of seeing the eye doctor a comforting experience. They are always open to answering questions at anytime! Customer service review: I did not have a positive experience with reception. I'm not sure if it's just a cultural or language barrier - but I felt the lady reacted rudely to my questions and/or issues. I felt like I was being shouted at, not listened to and overall - I left feeling anxious about the whole interaction. Typically, the offices/reception would assist with calling insurance carriers as a service to patients. This was my first time I had an issue with my insurance for which I had previously cleared before showing up for my appointment. Once the lady (I think she's an older Filipina woman) tried to bill my insurance carrier and it wasn't found - she scolded me to clear it up with my insurance. I explained that I did literally the day before - but she insisted that she was in the right. Regardless of the dispute, she really came off so strong to which I asked her to please be nicer. That's honestly the best way I could put it. I called my insurance and they were able to clarify that Costco is out of network so they should've billed me first so that I could submit a claim later. That's something the office should've looked into and/or known bc my insurance is a very popular one, so I'm surprised this hasn't occurred with other patients prior. The office space itself is extremely small and cramped. I will not return to this place because of the front desk service and not feeling welcomed. read more

Dr. K took me in without an appointment and spent a good amount of time impressing on me why I cannot wear my contacts at night. I needed new contacts and was completely out. My husband suggested I try Costco, it's convenient and inexpensive. I called and got an appt and I had no sitter for my son (1.5 year old at the time) so I had to bring him along. With a -7.50 vision and a loose 1.5 year old I was VERY nervous about sitting in the chair without contacts. Doc was well prepared with a treasure box filled with toys. He still managed to take the time to make sure he addressed all my questions and concerns. I never thought he'd become my go to doctor. And to top it off, I had LASIK done 3 weeks ago and he happens to be one of the docs in the network for post Opp visits. I had my LASIK done in Newport Beach. Imagine my surprise I still have the convenience of going to him - at NO extra cost. He even sets up my appts sooner than the required visits, which is great because I'm so damn paranoid anyway. If you are looking for a new Doc, I suggest you give him a call. You won't regret it. read more

This lady said to please wait outside for at least 30 minutes which to me was no problem FINE with me!! after 30 minutes passed. Dr.Katzaroff simply put is, "AMAZING" !! He took his time with me and made sure I walked out satisfied. I also have always had problems with contacts (I have bumps on my inner eyelids so I have always experienced some irritation in the past). He recommended an OTC item for this as well as a new cleaning solution to clean my contacts with. On top of it, he noted and asked if I had cholesterol (which I do) when examining my eyes. He saw that looking around my eyes (I guess cholesterol deposits in your eye when looked at closely). So not only is he knowledgeable, he is extremely funny and has a great personality. He also works with your financial situation in terms of selecting the brand of contacts. I trust him, and I am very particular who I go to for anything. Easily one of the best optometrists, and doctors for that matter, I have ever worked with. I have been dealing with a huge problem with my eyes for nearly two years now. In that time, I've seen 3 other optometrists and an ophthalmologist all with varying degrees of success and often highly different diagnoses. Seeing Dr. Katzaroff was a breath of fresh air. He has gone above and beyond to make sure we get my issue solved so I can get back to seeing clearly and comfortably again. It has taken some time but during the process he has always been very receptive, patient, and knowledgeable and my situation has improved greatly. Have been going to Dr. K for over 6 years. He is very knowledgeable, competent, friendly and adorable! My kids have all gone to him and as a family, he's our Eye Guy! I usually go once a year for my contact lens/glasses prescription. His prices are reasonable and it's always great catching up with him each year. He always addresses all of my issues and concerns with patience and detailed info. His office manager, Danielle, has been there since before I started seeing Dr. K and she is everything efficient! Love her too! The reason he has so many 5 star reviews is because they are well earned. He never rushes his appointments. He makes sure all questions are answered and that you have all the information you need with regard to your vision/lens Rx or glasses. Dr. Katzaroff has been helping my family for 10 years since my twins were about 5 years old. I hope he continues to be there forever. The perfect eye doctor, and he's also great with kids. When Dr. Katz is seeing you, he is very thorough, and takes the time to explain everything and answer all of your questions. I'm not a very trusting person, and I totally trust Dr. Katz. It is true that we sometimes wait past our appointment time, and that can be aggravating, but I'd much rather wait past my appointment time than feel rushed when it's time to see my doctor... or wonder if he was thorough with my kids exam. No concerns here. The waiting area is small, but there are chairs right outside the door in the main "warehouse" part. When my wife/kids have appointments, we'll often tag-team shop while someone is getting their exam. read more

Been seeing Dr. Katzaroff for over 15 years and he's the only one I trust with my eyes! Appointment times are very good when scheduling ahead, and there are also walk-ins available as there are also other optometrists that work in the office. They have very competitive prices and take most insurance co's. My whole family has seen him also for both contacts, glasses, and once your eyes begin to improve (if they ever do), he has the best recommendations for LASIK. Dr. Katzaroff is the ONLY optometrist that I would recommend to anyone. He is professional and very patient with his clients. I need bi-focal contact lenses, he would let me tried out different prescriptions at home until I found the one that is most comfortable for me. Sometime, it would take 4 to 5 trials, he was never rush to give out a prescription, instead he would find the best one to suit my needs. Visiting Costco maybe less glamorous, but you will receive a royal treatment from Dr. Katzaroff.
