We tried next door first, but the wait was outrageous. No wait at Joe's. Joe's is in a great location on the water. Nice views of the wharf. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the Reuben. The fish was cooked perfectly. Flakey and not dry at all. My wife was not as impressed with her sandwich. The meat was stringy, not shaved. Side salads were very good. As soon as we received the food, we had to ask for silverware. Our waiter said "oh that will go well on a yelp review!" Anyway, after that, we never saw our waiter again, not even going to other tables. Vanished! No refills. We had to ask the manager for our check. We have no idea what happened to our waiter, but let's say the waiter had an emergency and had to leave. No turnover to another waiter? As many waitstaff as we saw walking around (and there are a ton), Joe's does a terrible job with service. I agree with another Yelper who said prices aren't that bad for seafood. $26 for fish and chips is reasonable nowadays, even beyond Boston. read more

Advertised on their menu as a bread bowl soup, but arrives in a container. Soup was cold, mediocre, and lacking clams. It was too sweet (with no salt to be found; inedible). The cookie arrived a liquid mesh (I'm not from here but this didn't seem normal). We've thrown away everything, and tried eating the chicken. Sub par chicken breast that seemed like fast bar food. I loved that I could smell the truffle right away. I hate it when I order truffle fries and can't detect the truffle. I was debating between the raw seafood items and prepared foods; I ended up choosing the beet and goat cheese salad, and crab cake. The food arrived quickly and as ordered (I asked for no cilantro in the crab cake). The crab cake looked a bit unfortunate, but tasted alright. The beet salad however, was a mess. After passing this restaurant for years, I finally went it. Amazing water views! The menu has ample starter and entree choices, varying from the normal seafood choices (but, yes, there is clam chowder as well as other seafood choices). I did opt for a cup of clam chowder - super rich and thick - lots of bacon, potatoes, and clams. That hit at a solid 8. I had the steak bowl, which consists of steak tips, jasmine rice, diced tomatoes, greens, and avocado slices. A really good dish, but it had something akin to a sushi taste - I could taste something fishy (pun intended), but I could not figure out what it was. Still, super good! The steak was beyond tender, and it is enough to feed two smaller people (meaning it was a large portion for me). That dish was a solid 9. I saw another table order chocolate cake and ice cream, and it was decadent, and I only wish I was not so full from dinner, because it looked simply stunning! We sat outside on the patio on a busy Sunday night. They estimated our wait about 2 hours for our party of 6, but only ended up being an hour! And that hour was spent letting our toddler play at the playground, in the sandpit and on the carousal. Such a smooth wait and pretty location to be in! Then we had Phil as our waiter and he was honestly THE BEST. He was attentive, informative and very personable! We had the crab dip and oysters (omg so good), as well as multiple main dishes! The Maine Lobster was well worth it and delicious! The lobster rolls and Captain Platter were good as well, although lots of good other options to choose from as well! Delicious view and beautiful setting along the Boston Bay. We arrived after an incredible visit at Paul Reveres house. We walked in and requested an outside table along the water outside in the shade. Within 5 minutes, our table was ready. We walked out to the pier and there was no table in the shade. The server/hostess was confused. They did a great job and identified a table that wasn't sat there by the hostess. They politely asked them to move as the table was reserved for our group. I thought that was kind and considerate of the host/server. We sat and looked at the menu and ordered our drinks. We had the summer margarita and iced water. Visiting the city with friends from out of town. It was a Monday so we were hopeful that it wouldn't be too crowded especially because we had a larger party. When we called they said there was a table for us or so they said. We arrived and then we were told that it wasn't a table together but actually two tables next to each other which in fact it was not. It was two table in different areas of the dining room. The service for someone to actual come over and get our drink order took forever. The service in general was just extremely slow. Our overall time there was almost 3 hours and with young children in the party that is an extremely long time. The food was just average. Nothing special which was disappointing especially being by the water and having the seafood be nothing but average especially for the prices we were charged. If I could leave a negative star review, I promise it would be a -5. Myself and three friends got together yesterday for a girls brunch. With the weather finally reaching above 60 degrees in Boston, we were more than excited to get together for some cocktails and gossip on a patio. When we made our reservation, we were told that the patio is first come first serve, which is fine, we still were able to be sat outside upon arrival. However, our table was in complete sunlight with zero shade. We asked if we could move one table down to be under an umbrella and out of direct sunlight, to which our server told responded, "Um, I would have to ask the manager". She never came back with an answer. Now, it is important to know that there were several tables open on the patio. We decided to move down since no one came back to us. When she finally returned, she copped an attitude and rudely asked if we reseated ourselves. We explained that we did ask, but no one was getting back to us and there were several open tables available, so we didn't think it would be a big deal. She took our drink orders and ran off. Next, the manager came over and told us that we had to go back to the other table, that this one was reserved for people with reservations. We went on to tell her that we did have a reservation, to which she told us "the patio is first come first serve, we don't take reservations", completely contradicting her very last comment. She made absolute zero sense and continued to give an elaborate explaination as to why we cannot sit there. We decided we weren't staying. We asked for the bill and told them we were going to Tia's next door instead. The sever came back 10 mins later and dropped our bill and took off again. We sat and finished our drinks while we waited for someone to return with our card after taking payment. We were able to finish our drinks, that made it very apparent that there was absolutely no one waiting for this particular table. While we waited for her to return, the patio completely cleared out, leaving only us and one other table occupied. After we left, I stopped inside to let the manager know, that she made us feel totally unwelcomed and that she now has an unoccupied patio, driving away the only table she had left out there, ours. She couldn't care less. As a group of girlfriends who were out for the day with no other plan than to sit and enjoy the nice weather while gossiping over many rounds of cocktails, we would have spent lots of time and money at their establishment. Instead, they were more than happy to watch us leave and go next door, where we sat for 3+ hours eating and drinking. Jokes on them, Tia's made out in the deal. 0/100 would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Staff is incredibly rude and doesn't care about your experience. After reading many of the other reviews, it is to no surprise we had this experience. Skip Joe's altogether and head next door to Tia's, they're much more welcoming and offered a much friendlier environment. read more

Had lunch here before a Celtics game and it was fantastic!! Right on the water, pretty much all seats had a great view of the harbor. Loved the look of the inside as well. Our server was great, a very nice man and attentive. My espresso martini was one of the best I've had. We had the Brussels for an appetizer and they were the best Brussels I've had from a restaurant. My meal, the cobb salad, was huge and delish. My boyfriend got the cure burger which was HUGE, he couldn't put it down, he said that was also so so good.
