Following Texas Monthlys top 50 burger list, I had to try Joes. By far the best Texas in Brazos Valley. I've had better, but not in this area. The meat was flavorful and gigantic. Should have ordered a single. Sweet buns are not my fav, and I ordered a jalepeno bun, but waitress accidentally gave me the sweet bun. The bun did not hold together, but the meat was great, though slightly too salty. Great presentation and friendly service. They didn't ask for cooking preference, so I didnt get my usual med. However, the meat was juicy. Loved the Texas Toothpicks. Overall a great experience and a burger to come back for. read more

Wow!! This place is fantastic! Definitely one of the best burgers in Bryan/College Station! I got the mushroom swiss burger with the texas toothpicks & it was perfectly cooked & juicy, the bun was sweet & soft & the toppings were spot on! I would put this up against Grub & Hopdoddy for sure! Atmosphere is fun to watch a game or just chill. We were there with our 2 young kids for over 3 hrs watching a game & they had a great time "playing" the arcade games & running around on the back deck. My husband and I had always driven by Joes on the way out of town and kept meaning to visit. Once it made its way into Texas Monthly, we knew we had to try it! We honestly weren't sure what to expect, as Joe's Place is nondescript metal building seemingly off the beaten path. When we arrived Friday night around 7, however, the parking lot was full, so that was a good sign! True to the parking lot, the place was packed. Not a single table to be found inside, so we braved the 100 degree temperatures outside on the patio. There are no signs anywhere, but we deduced you seat yourself and order at the counter. It appeared to be a lot of locals who hang out at joes regularly, since they were all standing around talking and pulling tables together. There was only one gentleman taking orders, running the register, and acting as the bartender. We heard him mention something about his employees all on vacation before school started, so that's understandable. Nonetheless, ordering took a LONG time. The menu is pretty varied-quesadillas, pork chops, chicken fingers and the like. We were here strictly for the burgers though! A cheeseburger basket with fries, onion rings, chips or Texas toothpicks runs about $9. Upgrade to tots or sweet potato fries for $1 more. They didn't give us a choice of bun as indicated on the menu (sweet or jalapeno). 2 baskets, 1 beer and 1 iced tea ran around $22. Water was serve yourself out of a dingy little plastic pitcher. Certainly there is another way! The food left a lot to be desired, considering Joe's Place has made its way into the covered top 50! Yes, the burger was large and very filling. It was seasoned well and cooked through to my liking-barely any pink. The American cheese was not melted all the way, there was barely any mustard, no mayo as requested, and the bun was extremely plain (simply toasting the bun would go a long way!) overall, nothing stood out about the burger. The sides were simply not great. We tried both the Texas toothpicks and onion rings. The Texas toothpicks, which were billed as "spicy" contained no spice at all and were overcooked. The onion rings were also very bland, overcooked, and hardly contained any onion. We ate a few each, and left the majority untouched. In summary, Joe's place is decent if you are hungry and looking for a beer and burger. However, we prefer other places in the Brazos Valley and will continue to give our business to those. read more

Been coming here since I was a little girl and I've always felt at home! Never have I had a bad experience. The food is great, the beer is cold, and they have the sweetest girls! I want to preface this with a couple things. I had read about their Texas Monthly review and was hyped to go to this place because it was close by and who doesn't like burgers? My fiancee ended up going with a former coworker and they decided to try this place. I asked them to bring me a burger back. I'll be writing from her perspective as I've heard the story now half a dozen times as she rails this place to everyone she talks to. Her experience was that bad. They arrived at 7:45pm on a Friday. Well aware it would be a busy night they kept their expectations for service low. The general impression was neutral but the expectation was a good burger and not much else. They ordered their burgers and found a table to catch up. The order took a little over 45 minutes to complete and was prompted by an older bearded gentleman (presumed to be the owner) walking by and asking them if they had gotten their food yet. When he heard a response in the negative he took on a worried look and scurried off to see what happened. Their food was hot and fresh and the general consensus is that the burgers were okay but that's not what anyone is taking exception to. The real issue arose when it came time to pick up my order. After waiting what felt like an eternity she finally went to the front and asked what was going on with the togo order. The lady working up front started bagging up two items and as she was handing them to her she asked "You got the ribeye, right?" No. It was a double meat cheeseburger. The lady told her to wait and back to her table she went. After another 30 minutes or so she went back up to pick up my burger. This time the bearded gentleman was at the counter and when she asked him he turned around and there was the order tacked to the wall. It wasn't even started yet. He said they would try to complete it on the fly so that she could be on her way. By now their meals were long gone. After about 15 minutes the ribeye server came and dropped off a bag with the burger but before leaving she reached back for the bag and had the temerity to ask "you paid for this, right?" At this point the damn thing should've been free. The whole appeal of this place is it is right by where we live and they supposedly serve a good burger. It's a quick trip, much quicker than going to town to Whataburger. When she got home it was almost 10pm. 2 hours for a couple burgers. The best part of it all is that when I finally got to have my burger it wasn't even right. I ordered a double meat with cheese and it was a single patty with bacon. I couldn't give the food a fair review because the food was never right in the first place. If I were basing my order vs what I received then I would give it 0 stars because it wasn't even right. On the upside the onion rings were pretty good. For reference a double meat costs $12.75. A single meat with bacon costs $9.50. It may not be theft but I feel robbed. This place had such a negative impact on my finacee that any time anyone mentions a burger the first words out of her mouth are "DO NOT GO HERE." I guess we'll keep going to Whataburger. read more

Good for a beer and hamburger. The new place is much nicer than the old building prior to the road expansion but the food still tastes great. The benefit of a new building meant a full size kitchen so more than 1 hamburger can be cooked at a time. Thus, it is perfect for lunch with friends. Get the steak sandwich and some lemonade or a longneck and forget going back to work. read more

Atmosphere of a local hangout in rural area. Very laid back which was good. George Strait playing on the jukebox :) I really wanted to like this place. We were asked to order & pay at the bar. Lady who took our order seemed like she was having a bad day. We were not offered a choice of bun (which my companions later told me they saw available on the menu.) I would have liked to try the jalapeño cheese bun but with no choice offered I had the somewhat stale white bun. The burger wasn't bad but we did detect a strange taste which I suspect is Liquid Smoke. We've had much better burgers at Texas Burger, Harvey Washbangers, Fat Burger, Mooyah & Carter's Burgers. With no waitress, we went up to the bar to buy more beer. There were several ladies who worked there standing around complaining but no one waited on us. One of the guys at our table was enjoying a game on the nearby tv until a young man (about 12 yrs old) came out from the back with the remote & changed the channel. Maybe he's the owner's kid? He should be told not to mess with the tv without asking the customers who are watching it. We were expecting friendly service at this small country place.. We probably won't return since we can get better burgers & friendlier service in the city limits but just had to see if Joe's really makes one of the best 50 burgers in Texas. Our assessment is No. But friendlier service would make the burger go down more easily. read more

The place is just as the pictures show, a white metal building. Walked in and every table was full. One main guy seems to run the place but he does a great job of making you feel welcomed. Food took a bit but it was worth the wait. Jalapeño bun was perfect and the tater tots were the best I've ever had. BCS has a lot of great burger joints, this is definitely one of them. read more

Burger is fantastic! Be sure to get the jalapeño bun. When judging a burger, I'd say the bun is 25% of the grade and this one is among the best. Burger is juicy and they melt the cheese just right. When available I usually add bacon to a burger, but I've found the basic cheese burger is so good you don't need the help of bacon. Don't order the double cheeseburger unless you're really hungry because it's ginormous. Get the tater tots. They make them perfect and they'll even melt some cheese on them for you. Staff is always really friendly, which is a bonus. read more

Friendly staff and great environment. Food wasn't what I've heard it was. The burger was a good size. The burger had a nasty Tate to the meat. It was dry. I ended up just throwing it away. The bun wasn't soft at all. Fries were good. Sweet potato fries were completely under cooked. Ordered chicken tenders and were short one. And one burger had a cooked toothpick in the burger!! This was a to go order so didn't go back. Very disappointed on the food. Not at all worth the price. For a place with so many reviews and to have made it in Texas Monthly... I will skip this place. No worth the wait. I called them to let them know. I was told that the kids 3 pc chicken sometimes only come with 2 depending on the size. Can we say false advertising? I was with Bill A. and my sister and can say with no reservations, 100% of what he states about is true. The bill was surprising for what my sister and I ordered and needed to recheck to menu to figure the bill. As far as one employee running outside as we were beginning to leave checking if we had walked the check, it would be impossible since you pay at the register when you order or would not have received the meal. That made no sense. Cannot recommend Joe's as some hidden "gem". read more

This place is not as loved as it should be! This place is one of those "don't judge a book by it's cover" sorts of places. It's in an assuming building, and as soon as you walk in it takes a second to adjust to the dimmer lights. But goodness! Everything here is DELICIOUS! I have been eating at Joe's for years; but yesterday ended my eating there in the future. In the recent past I was told it was ok to bring my small dog in when we stopped in to grab a quick burger. This time I was told no dogs due to health department rules. That was ok so my dog and I went on the patio ,with the flies while my wife and brother in law stayed inside. The hamburger was great as usual but the Sweet potato fries were cold, I ask for some more then were not cold, what I got were hot and burnt grease fries, that I received after I had finished my burger. I told the waitress, who claimed to be the owners daughter, that these fries were just dumped back into the grease and heated up, she told me "well you wanted them hot" I said I didn't want them and to please refund me the cost of the fries, her reply was they could not refund for the fries. Then said she didn't understand what I wanted. I told her again refund my cost for the fries as I didn't want grease fries. My dog and i got up and went to the truck. my wife and her brother came out a few minunets later and then they were accused of skipping on the bill which was paid in cash when they ordered. to the same waitress that delivered me the grease fries. no apology nothing. If you do plan on stopping at Joe's I hope you don't get the waitress that we had to deal with. We will never stop there again and I will be sure and tell all our AGGIE friends to do the same. read more

Last resort this place if your on HWY21 just go to Bryan or college station because food isnt worth the price nor is the food quality at par. Service was terrible and the atmosphere was pretty pathetic. read more
