Joe's is a little hole in the wall in downtown Beverly, on Rte 1A. It has an incredibly limited selection, like, 3 meats (pepperoni, hamburger, and salami), and four veggies (onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, and habaneros). No salads, no mozzarella sticks, no subs, no calzones, nuthin' but limited topping pizza. The good news is that it's extremely good, and all the folks back at my compound dug it. Joe's pizza taste amazing. That's pretty much already established amongst anyone who's had it. The BIG issue? Don't get it if you're if you're really hungry. I can't put my finger on it but Joe's Pizza isn't the type of pizza that's going to fill you up without eating a whole pie, maybe even more. Also? The atmosphere is horrible. Authentic Italian pizza made with only the best mozzarella around, Joe's Pizza is exquisite (ironically, completely juxtaposed with the pizza shop itself). 1:15 AM and im cold and hungry.... or just hungry, i go to Joe's. If you can't find it, it's the one with the OPEN sign. If that doesn't help then the name Joe's is written in concrete on the ground as you walk in. You'll know it when you see it but I love the place. The pizza is great and the people that work there are very nice. Just no sudden movements and don't order the medium with double extra cheese sauce. But all in all I've got a lot of fond memories eating at this dump and hopefully many more to come. read more

Awesome pizza, and for a great price. Delicious thin crispy crust (there is nowhere else with dough quite like this), comes out within 10 mins of ordering. If youre hungry you can easily knock down a whole pizza yourself. Keep in mind, this establishment was built for business not pleasure; not much to look at but boxes and soda cans, but thats what gives it its charm. The best part is that they are open so late, sometimes til 3 or 4 in the morning, basically until the dough runs out. Just a comment: There is nothing else on the menu except pizza here. The Yelp app gives a "Explore the Menu" link to some basic menu feature that includes things like Salads, Appetizers, Gourmet Pizzas, etc. But ignore this. Yelp should remove this link. I have been around the block and then some. I have eaten pizza all over Massachusetts and even Italy. I am flabbergasted that anyone would not count Joe's Pizza as one of the best pies ever eaten. Don't take a date if she's high maintenance because she will swear she hates the pizza just because she hates the environment. Unfortunately I was not as impressed with the pizza. I ordered a cheese pie and a pepperoni pie for myself and a few friends. The appearance of the pizzas were not very appetizing and it did not get better from there. They tasted of low quality ingredients. The sauce was slightly bitter. I don't like a sweet sauce but this was bitter and overloaded with herbs. The dough was dry and chewy and the pepperoni had almost no taste. Come on, how could you not love this place? Okay, maybe the place itself is hard to love, as it falls apart around you, but that is what I call charm. All its charms aside, the pizza is unrivaled. I could sit in this dirty, smokey shop, watch the drunk college kids come and go, and enjoy a whole pie almost any night of the week. And when I say night, I mean late night, past 2AM. The foundation of a great pizza is the dough, of course. As the saying goes, "the dough is in the dough," or, case specific, "when the dough goes, Joe goes." Joe's dough (crust) is thin, crispy, and sturdy under the pressure of any toppings. Joe's has what pizza expert Schrochs calls the "perfect cheese/sauce ratio." This ratio is visibly recognizable by the consistent orange color achieve when the cheese melts into the sauce to blend the oils. Some call it greasy, but that is almost derogatory. Nonetheless, savor every last drip drop. I've worked in a couple pizza shops in my time. I was always proud of the product I served. If the day ever came when my name was on the line I hope my pie can stand the test of time like Joe's. read more
