a plate of food and a bag of coffee

I had an apple fritter and a couple of sweet rolls. They were awesome. I had a mocha hot coffee which was marginal at best. It seemed like a decent place, but I have to admit... seeing some employees with masks under their chins or with their nose outside the mask, I didn't feel safe. One server sneezed (with mask down), in front of the open donut shelves. I couldn't wait to leave.

Hot glazed Beignets

Joe's cafe is one of my go-to's for some delicious, fluffy donuts on the Westbank. Recently I discovered their hot glazed beignets! Now those literally melt in your mouth! Heads up, its a bit of a wait for them but its so worth because they are fresh and hot! Yumm!

While the food is fine, the overall condition is making me question how the food is prepared and under what conditions. If the guest bathroom... looks like this... I highly doubt this small place has a staff bathroom so now I'm wondering if the staff washes their hands before touching food? Is the dish washer clean and up to grade honestly? Is the stove ever cleaned? I know I refused to use the facilities just because the sink looks so bad. The decay has been so long it's literally eating the faucet... so let's wonder for how long has it been like this? A new faucet is what.. $25 at Walmart? My meal with my husband was $26... and never again will we be back. Money is walking out of the door, the owner needs to prioritize when addressing the conditions, or maybe the next owner should prioritize the conditions?

Waitress was not helpful when our food arrived raw and had paper in it. Brother was from out of town and they still made us pay for this garbage. Will be talking to manager and reporting to inspector. I'm disgusted.

Watch out

It used to be ok food but this was bad and dangerous. Frozen and instant food. I would complain directly to them but they don't answer the phone and don't have any contact info on their page. Not good, Joe. Not good at all.

Good burgers and breakfast platters. Donuts are good as well. Beignets are hot and fresh. Not a fan of their plate lunches

Awesome little homey restaurant with very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect brunch spot for the morning and early afternoon. I ordered black coffee and the ratatouille omelette with a side of bacon. It was delicious. Next time i am gonna try the steak and eggs on their entrees menu. Everything was reasonably priced. Dining room was well lit and clean. Unisex bathroom with changing table for the little ones was also clean! Cant wait to come back!

Love the interior layout, and it is handicap accessible. Bar seating available. Lots of light. Seated immediately. Drink orders taken and brought - coffee, OJ and Diet Coke. Food was out in under 10 minutes. Husband's Mushroom Toast with Bacon was SO yummy, and they even put the egg on the side at our request. My ham, mushroom, spinach and Gruyere crepe was also divine. Added side of Lyonnaise potatoes which were the best breakfast potatoes I believe I have ever had. Service was a team effort, which I always appreciate. Friendly, quick check out and we were encouraged to return. Can't wait!

Two things to keep in mind. Don't let this place fool you. Its off the main street, looks suspicious, maybe on the list for a failed food inspection, but no. Its a local joint. The parking: Not a lot of room to park because of its locations so you might have to hoof it but we were lucky it wasnt too busy. The food: Sooooo good. They seem to have daily specials and on our first visit, I ordered the catfish with red beans and rice. My brother had the fried chicken, also with red beans and rice. And corn bread on both orders. Bruh let me you, this is BY FAR THE best red beans and rice I have EVER had. I took that corn bread and broke it into the red beans and rice and just about inhaled it after the first bite. It was that good. The catfish was good too, they had this sauce that was very similar to Louisiana Hot Sauce but not too tart and not too hot. It was so perfect we asked where to get it. (Walmart). On the second visit (yes we came back) they had smoothered pork chops. . The chops were moist and tender, rice and gravy were finger lickin good. The "mac n cheese" (in quotes because it wasn't the regular elbows I'm used to but still good). And the potatoe salad (it dont look like it but it is, trust me, it is) its just as yummy. So if youre in the area and visiting, ya need to go here. Your appetite will thank you. I'm saying dont let this place fool you

We checked into our nearby hotel a bit early in the day and was looking to hit the streets for a spot to get a chill/light breakfast, a coffee and maybe a cocktail. We found all the things at Luzianne Cafe. Whether you belly up to the bar or grab a table, both of which are first come first serve, you start at the counter where you order, pay and grab your table number. It appears that during busy times they allow you to sit first and order from the QR at your table, this is an assumption given the code to order at the table, but the sign at the entry directed folks to the counter to order before sitting. For breakfast, we got the breakfast biscuit which came with eggs, bacon and cheese, and sided it with grits. The breakfast sandwich was solid, eggs were a bit soft and grits were more mealy than we are used to, but I think that may be authenticity of the area more than anything. I opted for the three option omelet with onion, sausage and gouda plus a side of sausage links. The omelet, though odd sounding combination turned out to be solid. Maybe it was my options, but it was decently "one note" in flavor. I tossed a little hot sauce on and that helped. However, while the sausage links were not much to look at, they were tasty, with a nice snap to the casing and meaty inside. To go with our breakfast, I got a cold brew with a splash of almond milk while my partner embraced NOLA and started his day with a bourbon sour. Both of us enjoyed our choices! Service was friendly and helpful at the counter/bar. The food runner was nice and then another member, assuming the Manager, that stopped by to check on us mid meal. She was super friendly and nice. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and drinks at Luzianne. Minor things noted, mainly on the cook of the eggs, but nothing awful. It his the spot and checked the boxes!

Oh my! Vietnamese coffee is my new obsession and I loved it so much, I came here twice in one…read moreweekend! I ordered the ice cafe trung, both times! And what that is, is a classic Vietnamese egg coffee that combines chilled coffee with a rich and creamy whipped egg yolk topping, in addition to my favorite part - condensed milk! It was creamy and so smooth. I just really savored it, the second time anyway. I probably downed the first one in a minute and I ordered the large. Tthe condensed milk with the egg yolk flavors were singing! I had no idea I would love this so much and I am great I tried something new. I also ordered the special of the day, the fried chicken sandwich. It was crispy and I loved the pickles, but it was not my favorite fried chicken sandwich. Something was different with the batter, it was almost like a tempura, like fry, but the sauce did help. It was good enough for me to eat all of it. I also had a slice of the cookie butter cheesecake. It was very good too, again not my favorite, but again, I ate every bit of it. Their coffee was the star, and if I came here twice in one weekend for that coffee, that says a lot! I would love that coffee every day.

Dough Nguyener's Bakery -- 4…read more Dough Nguyener's really introduced me and my son to the flavors of ube and pandan... and I still can't believe I went my whole life without them. Like where have I been?! We are forever grateful for that alone. As someone who already loves Vietnamese culture through food here in New Orleans, this place just hits. Vietnamese coffee is a staple for me--not even for energy, but for the flavor. If you know, you know... that bold, strong, chicory-meets-condensed-milk moment. It's rich, it's cultural, it's intentional. And when you start adding things like pandan cold foam? Simple, but it speaks volumes about the influence and beauty of the Vietnamese community here. I respect it, deeply. Now let's talk about that Croffle... a croissant-waffle situation. I went with the Chantilly and berries because... you already know, I'm gonna choose what feels like home every time. The cream was smooth, the fruit was fresh, everything worked. My only thing--personally--it was a little heavy on the almonds for me. Still good, just my preference. We also had The American--eggs, bacon, French ham, hand-cut fries, garlic aioli, and a baguette. I shared it with my son and made my own little sandwich moment with it. Used the aioli as a base, layered the eggs, bacon, and ham... and I feel like that's exactly what it was meant for. Solid, simple, and filling. I've tried a few other things too like the bánh mì and donuts. The bánh mì was good, donuts were okay... not my go-to for that. But that frozen cocktail? Listen... it was TOO good. Took it to a festival with me and between that drink and that sun, I slept the whole festival away lol. Overall, I'll definitely be back. I still want to try more from the kitchen--especially that chicken everybody keeps talking about. This is a great spot for early weekend brunch, late evening studying, or weekday coffee runs. Not too small, not too big. Beautiful lighting. A really good addition to Gretna.
