How this guy got four stars is seriously beyond me. I own a vacation rental management company so everything is time sensitive. I called Joe and he told me that he could help me out the next morning between 7:30-8am. The next morning I didn't hear from him. I text him multiple times and called him three times. I left multiple voice mails, only received one callback and they said they couldn't help. Long story short, on my ninth call, Joe answered immediately. He was able to help me the same day. I needed help for mom at her house and it was a bit of an emergency. Perhaps I was lucky, getting some of my karama back, or the stars were aligned, but regardless, I was very thankful for his help. Our entire closet shelf failed and with the weight of our stuff caused the supports to punch holes in the drywall, one going all the way into the next room. Being in the middle of other renovation in the house we needed to get this fixed quickly because we didn't have anywhere to keep our stuff. After arriving 30 minutes late, he was polite and reasonable going over the work with me. He departed promising I would have an estimate by Tuesday. I have used Joe now on four separate occasions. I figured it was time to leave him a review. The first time I called him one of the springs on my garage door had snapped. He made the time to get over that morning. He fixed it and for $100 less than the other two handyman I called had quoted me. I called him back out for a toilet repair and a few minor things around the house. This last issue was a water leak inside my walls. Ugghhhhhh......what proved to be a nightmare was made much better by Joe. His drywall guy did an amazing job. You can't even tell it was a patch. I had him correct a patch, that was badly done, over a year ago. He also patched a hole in our garage. The night we called him a valve on our front yard sprinkler system went out. He sent a guy to fix that issue too. I have referred him to two friends. who have also used his service. Both said he did a great job. His business has grown since our initial meeting. Don't wait, don't live with your house in disarray. Had garbage disposal broken, leaking faucet and rotted out sink drain. Temporary fixed them on my own for months. After months of my wife upset with my "duck tape" fixes I knew it was time for a professional but I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg and wait all day for the repair guy to show up. Saw great reviews for Joe on Yelp and gave him a call. Called Joe and he was at my house 15 minutes. Looked at my garbage disposal and told it needed to be replaced. Quoted me $90 labor. Looked up labor rates from other workers and it was $125 on average plus other "fees" Joe went and got the parts and got to work right away. The work was perfect, fast and professional. After researching local Handymen, I found Joe and loved his reviews on Yelp! But, this story doesn't have a happy ending. He answered his phone right away, and we made an appointment to meet at my listing in Carlsbad the next day. I am a Full-service Realtor so I was taking care of something for my client. Joe came out (Thursday), saw the project which quickly became two projects. Install of a stackable W/D and adding ducting for an Air-Conditioner. He said he would have the quote ready either that evening or the next day. I didn't hear anything back by Friday morning so I texted him. He said he was still working on the bid. On Saturday and again on Sunday, I tried his cell and had no response. When you work for yourself, your reputation is really all you have. Ability to communicate is very much part of that reputation. I lost 5 days waiting for Joe to give me a written bid. If this is how he runs his business, I would most definitely not hire him. So here I am on Monday morning making appointments again for the same job. Final thoughts: If the job was too much, then he should have given me the common courtesy of bowing out early on. I contacted Joe for some simple repair of low voltage out door lighting, bulb & fixture replacements, minor rewire etc. Joe & an assistant looked over the project, left the house presumably to pick up parts and never returned! Joe the handyman was great. We had a water leak coming up through our new wood flooring. Having a slab leak in the past I called Joe and he referred us to a water leak detection company. The water leak detection company did a great job locating the leak in the wall and not the slab. Joe came out and fixed the leak from the water pipe in the wall immediately, removed the damaged drywall and wood flooring. He took the time to explain his plan for the repairs and how long it would take. He kept us posted as to when he was coming to complete the repairs and was on time. I wasted a week trying to get a clear estimate for repairs (shower heads, smoke detectors, back yard trimming) and ultimately decided against hiring him. He didn't show up for the first appointment, then when he came he didn't seem to have a clear initiative on what he'd actually repair or how much it'd cost. He said he'd send me photos but after 2 days of back and forth I only got a 3 terrible photos of the wrong thing. (He sent me photos of the wrong tree, nothing of the shower heads). He kept asking how he'd get paid before he even gave me an estimate, and overall it was a lot of stress and hassle I didn't want to agree to. read more

I needed some cabinets hung up so I called Joe. He was available immediately, but I wasn't home yet. We set a time a little later that afternoon, and He came by right on time. He took a look at the cabinet, the wall and got right to work. I expected just a few screws in the wall, but Joe and his guy re-framed the cabinet and hung it very well. Amazing, amazing, amazing! I called Joe to see if he could come by and un wire an annoying smoke detector that wouldn't stop beeping and Joe was here within the hour! Not only was he fast and efficient, he had 2 smoke detectors on his truck that he installed to replace the old ones.
