I originally came to see Joe because I was having difficulty with body movement in my gardening, my back was becoming more rounded and rigid, and I was feeling stiffer. I work as a counselor, so I spend many hours sitting and talking with clients. Before being referred to Joe, I was referred for traditional Physical Therapy. I was previously an Occupational Therapist for 20 years, so I'm well versed in rehab programming. The Physical Therapy approach was very limited in terms of engaging my mind in the process. I am a 56 years old woman who loves to be active. I had a knee surgery about a year before starting with Joe to remove loose bodies and the surgeon found severe cartilage loss (Type 4) in some areas. My knee was stuck flexed forward and I could not stand upright on my leg. A good friend of mine recommended Joe to improve my knee range of motion and movement. I'm an active 37 year old that's been dealing with a herniated disc in my neck that was causing neck pain as well as nerve pain down my arm into my hand for many months. Based on my MRI showing the size of the herniation, my doctor recommended I see a surgeon. She indicated that surgery would be a good option, but I was very hesitant, as neck surgery seems like a very big deal. So, I decided to try a less invasive approach consisting of acupuncture and sessions with Joe. Over the course of a couple of months, we were able to eliminate the nerve pain and sensation in my arm and hand, and have made great progress on reducing the pain in my neck - almost to the point where I don't even notice it. My experience seeing Joe Kelly as a Structural Medicine practitioner has been nothing short of amazing. His calculated approach and thorough analysis are what sets him apart from the rest of the pack. After years of impacting my body at high level with skateboarding and snowboarding, I had built up a number of lasting injuries. One of these injuries resulted in a blown out left knee, requiring ACL replacement surgery and trimming of an unrepairable meniscus tear. Although I had one of the top surgeons for this procedure in the country and a great physical therapist, there were a number of muscular balance issues that went unaddressed. Joe does amazing work. He uses a systematic approach that is personalized based on your individual needs. His background combined with his intuition and deep knowledge of the body are quite powerful and healing. I have a low back injury from over 10 years ago as a result of my yoga practice and deep forward bending postures (while also being fairly flexible). Joe gave me back my life. Three years ago after an abdominal surgery I developed neuropathy and widespread muscle pain. I tried multiple treatments including PT without success. Joe is amazing! I have had a lot of back issues including prior surgery and compression fracture. He worked with me on improving my body mechanics and lengthening fascia.
