We got the conecuh sausage and chicken gumbo, since I no longer can enjoy shrimp. Shockingly you are really tasty but a little to Spicy. I can't handle you, but Bae likes you a lot. For entrees, Bae got the pasta. He full, but says it's good. I got the Joe Cain 12 inch, comes with chicken, bacon, spinach and mushrooms with a white sauce. Yummy! Our service was great. The food is not consistent and the service could be better. I've had the beef brisket melt, gumbo and the chicken and dumplings. The beef brisket is very dry! The gumbo taste different every time I get it and the chicken and dumpings was straight creamy water with no substance. Zero dumplings or chicken. The last time I had the gumbo the server barely put rice in it and the sausage was freezer burnt tasting with a weird sour taste. read more

We ate here on 12/12/2024 with a party of six. We entered and were quickly greeted by our server Ashley, who was very helpful kind and efficient. We each had a drink or two at the table. I had the strawberry lemonade, which I would recommend if you like sweet drinks. I had the cajunlaya pasta which was a delicious pasta dish with lots of yummy cheese. A cafe located adjacent to the hotel and we were here twice, once for drinks and once for dinner. It's serviceable for both but it's not what I would call a solid choice for "date night". The food is decent if you are looking for something quick. I ordered a small pizza for my kids, and it was pretty good. I got the shaved prime rib, and it had a good flavor but was messy and not very warm. I got the pasta salad as my side, and I really liked that. My friend got the Turkey club, and it was mediocre at best. The server was very straight forward, which I appreciate; however, there were several parts of our order was messed up. We almost did not eat there because the menu is very small, and we watched as several people came in order drinks or nothing, then left. Walking in one sees a very pretty bar. Service was friendly but this place has the feel of a fast food quick turnaround place. We ordered pizza. Took a long time and we soon realized why that was the case. Though the cheese was melted and there was appropriate charring of the crust, the pizza was not hot. It was just above lukewarm/room temperature. Heat lamps could help to keep food warm while the food is waiting to be served. Went for drinks ands snacks last night, here for a meeting. Gumbo was delicious, pizza was ok. I wouldn't go there again just for the pizza, and aside from the gumbo there was only one other dish that was "southern." The service was good there were a lot of people in for the meeting so it was busy but mostly busy with people there for the meeting. At its heart it is still a hotel bar off of a hotel lobby but it definitely meets the needs if you can't or don't want to go out. read more

It really breaks my heart to write this review because I wanted to love Joe Cain's Cafe but I want to make sure my fellow consumers are aware when they visit. The restaurant is beautiful! Even the outside is nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful during an enormous lunch crowd that seemed to gather here during a conference. I ordered the CBR pita and my friend got the lunch special pizza for only $10 (it was HUGE). All the food looked amazing. Here's the bad part... when I bit into my CBR and began to chew it was something hard in the food. I spit it out into my napkin and it was a piece of marble looking tile. Yikes!! I'm glad I didn't swallow that. My friend called the waitress over and gave her the piece of tile in my CBR. She sincerely apologized & offered to make me another but I opted not to and decided to eat some pizza instead since it was huge. The manager on duty came to table and deeply apologized. She also had a freshly made CBR for my troubles. I gave them 2 stars because of the great staff and delicious pizza. However, objects in the patron's meal is very unacceptable for me. If you're hungry, this place does the trick. Reliable menu with all the basic favorites. Hours are longer than most other restaurants in the area which is why we chose it. There are definitely better places to eat in town but if you want a quick meal that is not fast food and won't let you down, I recommend it. So, we spent the night at the Battle House for the Dauphin Street Beer Fest and just out of convenience, had some drinks and dinner at Joe Cain. Great choice! Service was really good despite being busy with pre-gamers and it was a pretty lively atmosphere. I ordered the pot roast tacos and, man, were they delicious!! Pretty simple presentation-2 tortillas filled with really good beef pot roast, topped with horseradish cream and pickled red onions. They were fantastic! I even went back after the beer fest and ordered another round. That good. Seriously. The only reason they got 4 instead of 5 stars is the price. For $11, there really should be 3 tacos. We decided to eat here after an event over the weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was honestly impressed with the food. My hubs ordered the hummus to start us out. Hummus is not something I would typically order, but I would totally order that again. It was well seasoned and was garnished with arugula, roasted tomatoes, and olives. It was served with toasted French bread chips and pita slices. For my entree, I ordered the prime rib sandwich with melted provolone and au jus sauce. It was phenomenal. Chief Slacabamorinico himself would've loved that sandwich. I had fruit as my side and it was a variety of fresh melons and grapes. My hubs ordered the shrimp tacos and they were flavorful as well, and the salsa they gave him to pour on them was exploding with delicious flavors and just the right amount of kick. He also ordered two drinks, Basil Hayden and Sprite. Our total tab was about $57 before tip. The interior of the restaurant was very sleek and modern. I love that each of the tables where we sat had electrical outlets on the side of the table so you could charge your phone while grabbing a bite to eat, or so you could charge your laptop and work while enjoying lunch. Stopped by for dinner and a drink. The place didn't seem busy, as we had no trouble finding a table. Waitress greeted us within 5/10 minutes and got our drink order and app. After about 15 minutes I suggested we should go, but my party said we already ordered drinks so it would be crappy to just leave. Another 10 to 20 minutes go by and the waitress comes back and apologizes and asks us what we ordered for drinks again. So during that 30+ minute time frame after ordering our drinks, she just checked out and didn't return for almost half an hour. We apologized (even though we shouldn't) and said we were just going to leave. Can't comment on the food or drinks itself as the service was so horrible. The environment is old and kind of dirty, definitely has been a decade or so since the last renovation or cleanup. Food was smeared on the walls by our table and there were a lot of gashes in the walls, so overall I wasn't impressed from the get go and the experience didn't leave me wanting to return. read more

My co-workers love to go over for their pizzas. So despite the negative reviews, we decided to order takeout from Joe Cain Cafe for the first time. We soon found out that they had changed their menu in April 2015 and removed the Chicken Cheesesteak and the Herb Roasted Pork panini we were going to order. So we chose the Seared Tuna Wrap and the Grilled Chicken, Bacon, Ranch Flatbread instead. When I got back to the office, my tuna wrap was a tuna sandwich, on dry toasted wheat & no sesame dressing?!? I called and spoke to Candice who looked up our order and agreed that they had messed up. The wrong item was brought back, Candice apologized for their error and happily exchanged it for the right order. No problem! Mistakes happen but I really appreciated the way their staff handled the complaint. Back to the food, we both really enjoyed the Seared Tuna Wrap and the Grilled Chicken, Bacon, Ranch Flatbread. We wanted a quick bite while staying at the Battle House hotel and didn't want to leave the building because it was Mobile's coldest night this year. We ended up splitting a pizza. It was nice that the staff let us do that. I had the caprese pizza. I'm normally a Margarita pizza kinda guy and this wasn't far from it. I wish it was a little more affordable pricing, but all in all the food was good and worth it. The staff was nice but I wouldn't say overly friendly. It was getting later though. The greatest cuisine can be found in downtown urban areas. Most cities promote locally owned; my favorite over a large commercial chain any day. While in Mobile, Al I found Joe Cain Cafe next door to my hotel. Great table and bar seating with a historical flair. The menu consist mainly of bar type food, i.e pizza, flatbread, soups and sandwiches. Oh and did I mention a large selection of craft beer... I'm in! I ordered their gumbo and a salad. Let's face it, salad is salad. But that gumbo, now that was "smack your mama" kind of good! It had just the right heat, not too spicy. Perfect choice for a cool night. I did eye other customer's choices, and I must say the pizza looked delicious. Hopefully, I will be back in town again soon to give it a try. read more

Joe Cain is a perfect spot for me considering I work in the RSA Tower and they are located in the bottom floor. They are a Mardi Gras themed restaurant that specializes in hand made pizza, sandwiches, amd cocktails- all of which are created by the restaurant and change frequently. Their pizzas are out of this world! My go to lunch order is the mixed green salad which comes with goat cheese, strawberries, and pecans. For an additional cost, you can add chicken, seared tuna, or shrimp. I highly suggest the sesame vinagrette (so good you could drink it almost!). You're not going to get out of here at lunch for less than $15. If you're in the area and have a little time, stop in and enjoy some great food and amazing drinks. Bedding to catch a football game? I was staying at the Battle House Renaissance Hotel and this restaurant is attached, so I gave it a shot. I ordered the Buffalo wings to go and had a beer while I waited. The service was good, as was the beer, but the wings were horrible!!! They seemed as if they were boiled and then tossed in the sauce. The skin was not crispy, not due to the sauce, and they were not done all the way. I can't speak for any other menu items, but I definitely would not recommend the wings. read more
