It's the tallest living sand dune system on the East Coast, and the views from the top are amazing, especially at sunset. The visitor center has some neat exhibits about the history and ecology of the dunes, and the rangers are helpful with tips on where to go. People are out there flying kites or even taking hang gliding lessons, which makes it a lively place. Admission is free and it's a unique experience you don't want to miss.

You can also skate down the dunes if you're adventurous. We had so much sand covering us once we got back in the car but it was 100% worth it. They do have a rinse off spot next to the welcome center/restrooms. Pro tip: baby powder will help you brush off sand once you're ready to head home

We really liked her approach of sharing her knowledge on all aspects including how the waves are formed, understanding impacting dynamics like wind, and the approach she took to ease our kids into it for the first time. So cool and a bit surprising to see the two older ones actually catching some waves by the end of their first lesson. We would highly recommend Outer Surf and Megan as an instructor to anyone wanting to learn to surf and have a fun time doing so. Our kids were ages 15, 14 and 7. Fantastic experience!

The attendant was very rude to the point of scolding us to not show up expecting to be able to get a ticket day-of. I'm not used to people being so rude but she said it multiple times. We then bought our tickets and after it was processed my phone recognized that I was at a partner museums and encouraged me to ask for my 50% discount and she didn't accommodate it. Not a great experience. We still enjoyed the exhibits, including the sea turtle rehab areas. I especially love the USS Monitor exhibit recognizing the contribution to naval history and of course the jellyfish.

The customer service was impressive--quick, friendly, and helpful. One concern I had was the rainy weather forecast. They assured me I wouldn't be charged for days when setup wasn't possible. That peace of mind sealed the deal. We arrived on Saturday, and by Sunday morning our tent and chairs were already perfectly set up. This continued like clockwork every day of our trip.
