Despite being under staffed I've always been met with a smile. The staff are extremely helpful when I have a question and the management go out of their way to help. The store gets busy and cluttered but I always keep in mind that they can only do what they are capable of. I've watched other customers be more disrespectful than any team member. I have been here a few times, spending a hundred or more dollars each time, but I won't be coming back. Last time I was watched heavily like I was gonna steel something because I was in a bit of a hurry and was walking fast. It totally gave me the creeps and was enough to deter me from shopping there in the future. Besides that I think it is really sketchy how they demand a phone number at check out. I have seen them push flabbergasted customers into providing one when it was clear they didn't want to. It's unfortunate because I want to support brick and mortar stores but it is becoming increasingly uncomfortable to shop at them. read more

I am so happy with the framing department. Everyone is so kind, helpful and patient. I have had several prints framed and a handwoven cloth framed so beautifully. Most of my pieces have been done by Lexi and they came out just perfectly. She was very patient with me the first time when I wasn't sure what I wanted. Her suggestion was a big hit with my husband who received the triple prints as a surprise. Just today I picked up my 5th framing today and was very very happy. I will not go anywhere else. I don't know if everything her and her manager did for me tonight will work out , I'm in California and desperately wanted something that was on sale and had called every store hours away possible from me and NOT ONE was in stock nor for that matter very friendly and quite a few clicked before I could even say thank you. Bethany found one and while we're not sure for positive If the sale will be able to be transferred to a closer store in shoreline for my friend to pick up, I just wanna reach out and say I haven't seen customer service like that in a long time , let alone customer service 10 minutes before closing that didn't even rush me off the phone and was just as enthusiastic for me for finding one! I went to this store to buy mask making supplies and I was blown away that NONE of the employees were wearing masks! Again, wearing a mask protects the customers (and your fellow workers)from getting COVID. I find it ironic that the reason why they were deemed "essential" was because they sold mask making materials! I will be writing the manager (Dave) next. I see a few people have rated this store badly, generally complaining of under staffing and slow customer service. I'm not usually in a hurry so that never even struck me as an issue. I love to look about and just ponder the potential usefulness of things. It's the crafts material that most attracts me so I don't often need someone to cut bolts for me; perhaps I'd be annoyed if I waited a long time for the cloth I wanted, but I think even then I just wouldn't be in a rush and wouldn't mind waiting my turn. I must admit the first time I set foot in a Joann's I thought "What a bunch of hokey old lady kitsch crud craft crap!" But then I noticed something I could really use for an art project. And then some other stuff the same. And I've been a fan of Joann's ever since. It's a useful shop whether you make corny crafts or are trying to create arty things that are truly original. Not the shop's fault, but I do always feel whiny and complainy about the price of some craft books, trade paperbacks on such wonderous subjects as quilts, but at ghastly prices I can only rarely bring myself to pay. But apart from the books, for the most part, craft supplies are pretty inexpensive. ----- On a later journey to Joann's I wasn't in such a forgiving mood I guess. So many aisles are crowded with cheesy finished gifts and geegaws. It's like a dollar store except nothing's only a dollar -- useless, dreadful products that have nothing whatsoever to do with crafts. I had to look real, real hard for some basic "component" craft items which seemed hidden in the back corners. Tempting to lower the rating to two stars but I won't. Perhaps next time I go I'll be in a great mood. But I have to admit, I'm taking to ordering more and more craft supply stuff on-line, where for many basic items one can find it wholesale. read more

Taking all necessary precautions, I did an online order for curbside pickup. I ordered 8 separate pieces of fabric, 2 yards each, and waited a day and a half for the email saying its ready, just for it to be canceled other than one item. I just went back to the store to find all of the items that I had purchased online on the self. After being told to go find the fabrics myself, I went to the counter and waited for my number to be called. As I was waiting for an hour and a half, i was utterly blown away at the overwhelming disrespect by the fabric cutting staff. They vocally expressed their complaints of working, their opinions on the fabrics, and whining about cutting so many yards of fabric that other customers were visibly uncomfortable. As my turn came around, the woman that helped me was very rude and made me feel horrible about my choices. Don't come to this location. read more

The people leaving negative reviews about this store have a point. This store does seem to be short-staffed at all times. If I have a question, I almost never find anyone out on the floor to help me, so I have to go to a cashier, or customer service, or the cutting counter, and on busy days, it's even hard to get help there because there's always a line everywhere. That said, I don't think it's a problem that's unique to this store. I've experienced the same thing in the Bellevue store, as well as the one in Santa Monica, CA. I'm just so grateful to have a big fabric store within driving distance, that I don't let it bother me too much. I have found that if you have a specific question about beading, or scrapbooking, or knitting, or sewing, and you go to a big chain store like Jo-Ann or Michaels, finding an employee who is actually knowledgeable about that topic is pretty hit or miss. To reliably get employees who know what they're talking about and can offer real guidance, you usually have to go to the small independent bead, paper, yarn or fabric stores. If you go to this store a few weeks before Halloween, when everything is on sale and everyone is scrambling to make their costumes, you'll find that the fabric section (namely the specialty fabrics, the satins, and the tulle) is a complete disaster, help is extremely hard to come by, lines are horrendous, and the employees at the cutting counter are at their wits' end. You've been warned. You can circumvent the madness by doing the following: 1. If you need a particular type of fabric for a fairy princess costume, don't go looking for it at the last minute when they're likely to be out of stock because everyone else is making fairy princess costumes. 2. Understand their limits. Sewing experience is probably not a requirement for working there, so try not to get frustrated when the person at the cutting counter isn't more helpful about what type of interfacing would work best for your project. Little independent shops are great for that sort of thing, but they're also twice the price. It's a trade off. 3. MOST IMPORTANT: If you're there for fabric and they're busy, the minute you walk into the store, go over to the cutting counter and take a number! Never, never, never wait until you're ready to get your fabric cut to take a number. If you do that, you're just asking to be irritated. If they're getting close to calling your number and you're not done yet, walk over and take another number. I like to give my first number to someone who's already waiting to get their fabric cut, so they don't have to wait as long. 4. Never go to the store empty-handed. They are always putting out coupons. I just used 4 60%-off coupons on my last trip. One from an email, one from a text, one from their website, and one from their app. There is no excuse for paying full price! So that brings me to the real reason I'm writing this review. I was at this Jo-Ann's today, and had the pleasure of interacting with one of the managers, both at the cutting counter, and at the register. Her name is Jo, and she was so awesome, I just had to say something. She has really long brown hair, a pretty, chirpy voice like Kristin Chenoweth, and is such a sparkly little ray of sunshine that she took a completely ordinary trip to Jo-Ann's and turned it into something memorable. She was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable ("Never, ever fold velvet -- you'll crease it!"), and a lot of fun to talk to. So the next time you find yourself at this store, seek her out! She will brighten your day. read more

If you're walking in to window shop or socialize with friends, it's fine. But if you need to cut something at the table, stand in the checkout line, or HEAVEN FORBID ask someone in the sewing machine section a question, then you'd better kiss your whole day goodbye. Viking machine sales: I've never met a woman so affrontive and dismissive in a place where they'd like you to give them your money! I will never come to Jo-Ann when I need a machine, lessons, or accessories. She was blatantly rude, and griping that I was even there. I'm still irritated, and struggling to not use a very strong word to describe her. And don't bother sending a customer service email even though it looks so welcomed on the website. She won't reply, but she WILL gripe about your email when you get there so you are sure that she did read it, but didn't care to respond or save you the 45 minute drive. For all I know, they do have the part I wanted to buy. She stated that she wasn't going to assist me, so I'd be waiting a VERY long time. I did wait a long time anyway, but then saw she was serious and left. read more

The service level here has gone way down. When I first walk in, I check out the cutting table wait line. If it's bad (which it usually is), I skip even looking at fabric that day. They MUST be losing money in fabric sales. It would be nice if they added an "Express" cutting table for people who only need ONE fabric cut, instead of having to wait behind the ladies that buy "1/16th of a yard of each of these 30 bolts of fabric"! Then you have to listen to the detailed explanation while the cutting help discusses every project she has done in the last 5 years. I just want to get in, get my 3 yards of the same fabric, and get out. Is that too much to ask for as a customer??? read more

Some of the worst customer service I've experienced. They messed up my online order, missing 11 items and were completely unwilling to help, not even an apology. It takes me over an hour round trip to get to their store and they refused to ship out the items. They also charged me the full amount for the missing items. If you shop here, just know they don't care about you as a customer in the slightest. read more

I asked an employee for help finding a product that was shown as "in stock" at that location online. The employee told me if I wanted that specific item I should buy it online and ship it to my house... I drove an hour to come to this location because the item was in stock. After searching the entire store I finally found what I was looking for. I got to the checkout and the item rang up without the sale price, I asked the cashier about it and he was very nice and asked a co worker if there was a sale. The other employee had a very rude tone and said something along the lines of "the licensed ones are never on sale and especially not for 40% off". I told them I was more than happy to point them to the sign in their store that advertised the sale. I ended up showing the cashier the sale offer on their website pulled up on my phone and he happily accommodated me. Again, the cashier was great but the other employees not so much. Today was my first time in JOANN's, I'm not a crafter or sewer, I just needed a small piece of fabric for a wrapping project. I walked up to the cutting table and both gals were busy cutting many bolts of fabric no biggie. After ten minutes of waiting it was my turn, the associate looked at me and said, "are you number 55?" and I said, "I didn't know there were numbers." next a customer yelled from the back of a nearby isle and said, "here I am." The associate said, "Oh, then you'll have to take a number." So frustrating! She could have had my fabric cut by the time "55" got to the table! Then to add to my frustration I asked to see the manager, waited 5 more minutes never saw the manage and left! read more

I'm updating the review for the amazing follow up and customer service that the store manager provides. I called sometime ago looking for some washi tape I had previously purchased. They had moved things over and he promised to call me back once he checked with his merchandiser. He kept his word and followed up 2 days later informing me they didn't have the product but he would email other Joanne's to see if they had it in stock. A week later I get a follow up call to let me know that the emails had turned up no further stock. I have since found my washi tape- but am over the moon on their customer service. I am so willing to wait a couple extra minutes in line if it means that the managers keep their word and do what they say they will do- something that is lacking in the service industry today. You have won me over and I'll be choosing you over Michael's! I have since also emailed corporate to make sure they do what they can to keep this guy around!! read more

I always enjoy shopping Jo-Ann's ...but, a suggestion I may pass on to others...check the check-out line before you start shopping. It's the one issue I have with Jo-Ann's...the line is always long, and v-e-r-y slow!! So, if you're limited with your time, don't bother :-/ read more

I really feel that this place needs hell of alot more employees on the floor. One person behind the cutting counter doesn't cut it when there is 7 lady's need things cut out and they all need like 5 thing's cut at that time !!!And 1 to 2 cashier to 10 people waiting to check out REALLY COME ON PEOPLE !!! I go to Jo-Ann's for yarn for projects that either: 1. Are for people who can't be trusted with luxury fibers or 2. Impulse projects that I can't justify spending lots of money on. I don't go there expecting much, honestly. And lately I've been sorely disappointed. The selection is incredibly sparse, and there are almost no natural fibers left. I don't care for this location. Service is always slow, helpful but slow. I went in for bean bag filling but they didn't have much, and what they did have they had medium beans and all of the bags were torn and the stuffing was shooting out all over. It's so filled with items and so jam packed it's hard to find things. Everything is kind of packed in really tight, the parking lot seems a little sketchy. sometimes i get pumped to go to Jo Anns only to go there and get heartbroken over the lack of product they have. a lot of times you could even find things cheaper online. personally i knit/crochet, embroider/x-stitch, and sew. while they've had stitch nation yarn previously the past couple of times i've gone in they actually haven't had any and so far here it's been my favorite yarn to use since they have bamboo, sheep and alpaca wool in beautiful colors that are affordable. hopefully they were just out of stock but i'll go back again and check. as for embroidering and what not i wish that they'd carry Thread Heaven. if you're looking for it you may as well find it online (sublimestitching is a great place to get tools and textiles). they also don't seem to carry iron on pencils or pens and their patterns are old fashioned or very childish. :( this is probably the only place to get fabric now since Walmart doesn't carry fabric in their stores. if anyone knows of another store that sells fabric please let me know! anyway, i recently went in to find some fabric to make a blanket for a friend who's about to give birth to a boy and for some reason i could not find anything nice for a boy but there were a lot of cute things for a baby girl. it's probably just my luck though because i swear a year ago they had really neat prints for boys. read more

Their selection of products is great but their fabric cutters are incredibly slow & their customer service skills are lacking. Both days I went in there, I left feeling the same way. I went to purchase a canvas. There was a 50% off sign in front of the canvas I was purchasing. At the check stand it rang at full price. I told the clerk the sign said 50% off, her response was oh, it only applies to certain canvases and not to these. I went back to the framing area and asked why the sign was placed in front of an item that was not on sale. The clerks response was corporate tells us where to put the signs there is nothing we can do about having to put it in front of something that is not on sale. You are not the only craft store in town and I will not be visiting again due to your intentional false advertising. read more

Oh, I'm in love with this store. If you do pretty much anything related to crafts, this is a great place. They have fabric, they have soap making supplies, beading, various yarn crafts, you name it! I've gone through so many different hobbies and am always coming back to this store! The women who work in the fabric section have ALWAYS been VERY friendly. read more

The wait here to get your fabric cut is way too long no matter what season it is. The Port Orchard store isn't as bad, but in both places it takes a long time to pay also. Wish the management would add more personnel & an express lane cutting table for those wanting just one item cut. Invariably I'm behind someone with a whole cart of fabric. My daughter and I went to Silverdale JoAnne Fabrics today. We went there to buy something and left without anything! The reason....not enough employees to assist with finding something. My daughter waited 20 minutes to talk to someone and then they said they could not help her and then I asked someone to help us and they said it was not their department. They told us to wait and talk to someone else where there was a huge line!!! We were in the store for an hour and never got help. I had picked out something to buy but never got assistance for what we came in there to purchase. We were upset and I put the other item backt. There are many people without jobs.....why don't they hire more employees???Especially ones who CAN provide good customer service. read more

This Joannes is just alright. Their selection is average. Sometimes, they do not have what I need for art projects (e.g. floral paper or certain sized standard frames). My biggest complaint about this Joannes is there are not enough people to help customers. If I am buying fabric, sometimes it takes 15 to 20 minutes just to get it cut. Then I have to go wait in line to buy it. It is hard to shop there because I know I will need at more time then I would like to bargain to check out. read more

I have to shop here once in awhile because it is the only fabric store in town but I hate it. The lines are long and there's no one to help if you can't find something. If you don't have a coupon you'll pay too much as merchandise is all 40-50% overpriced. I had problems with an order that I did online where I paid extra for postage and I was guaranteed to have it at Christmas. It didn't come and when I called and wrote customer service, they did nothing about it. I had candles that come in glass votive-like containers sitting on my window sill and although I followed the instructions to not leave them untended they were unknowingly scorching the window sills. Customer service sent me to their insurance adjuster. She said I had to take it up with the manufacture. I called him and when I questioned the fact that the package didn't warn that the glass container was so thin that it had to be set on something to prevent a five, he hung up on me. So after locating the receipt and spending many hours on the phone with all these people, I got nothing. Two of my brand new fir window sills have scorch marks on them. read more

I shop at both the Silverdale and Port Orchard Store. Silverdale is much bigger, but the wait time for having fabric cut is so long it is not worth it, and that is on an average day. Port Orchard time is some what better. I gave up hitting these stores on their big sales days like President's Day Sale because the lines for cutting fabric are terrible. Management sees this problem but they never increase personnel. Too bad, when you love to sew. read more
