After coming to the auto licensing inside the Ace Hardware in downtown Edmonds for a little under a decade, I finally decided to look around and see if there was something for me to get this morning (Thursday 24 October 2024) after picking up my car tabs. The Ace Hardware houses the auto licensing as well as more standard offerings, a bakery section, some basic groceries, and a deli area. Some of the sections, such as a key making area, caught my attention as things to remember. Aisles were clearly labeled and the offerings matched their category. Some of the items were more seasonal specific, such as items to help with cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving, while others were more routine items. The bakery section included Pacific Northwest-based brands and freshly baked items. While tantalizing, the item(s) catching my eye for purchase today were the bumper stickers. I went with four in animal theme with fun sayings. The total with tax came to $14.00. My cash payment method was accepted and I opted to round up the change to go to an area Senior Thrift Store. Edmonds Ace seems to have one of everything. Cute gifts for friends and colleagues. If you are in a pickle and need an item they don't have, the hardware people will take time to help sleuth a quick fix solution with items on hand...and they enjoy the challenge. Front end is always efficient and professional. Younger staff have been eager to help load heavy items of dirt/bark/rock bags to car. Ace is the closest to a corner store or bodega in the bowl. Frozen pizza, chips, beer/wine/liquor, ice cream - they got you. Surprising selection on instant noods. Limited fresh selection. Great spice selection. read more

This Ace Hardware store is truly outstanding- in providing all the many useful items to its incredible personal and knowledgeable service. I was assembling a toy kitchen for my granddaughter and because of its poor design, I was at my wits end. I brought in a piece of it and with the "above and beyond" service from Maija, Matthew, and Brian, they spent at least an hour to come up with a solution to fix the mistake that I had done. They were knowledgeable, patient, and persistent, using many tools and hardware in order to help me complete the assembly of the toy kitchen. A every thing you need store. I was drawn in here for my love of bbq. They have an incredible deli, serving the best collection of bbq meats. The store is fantastic in the variety it has to offer. Options include , you can get your license renewed. Get household items. Great selection of hardware items. And, since hardware shopping makes you hungry, a great array of bbq options. Great plant selections. Really, a full service place. Bought some plants from here. And since buying plants made me hungry, had to try their bbq. Wonderful food and helpful employees. I had a very negative experience with Jeannine. She was rude when we were nothing but kind. She was irritated that I asked if I could pay with the tap feature of my phone and then when my Dad came up from behind to say not to worry he'd pay. She got angry. They were not busy, no one else was even in line. Maybe this location should invest in a self-pay kiosk so no one else has to experience the rudeness. read more

This gem of a location has a community feel. I love heading down here if I need any odds or ends and renting their carpet machines which work better than others. I would give them zero stars for their customer service if I could. Around 1:30pm today an old white male worker accused my 3 year old son and 6 year old nephew of tampering with their products near the back of the store that set the alarm off. That alarm was going off when we walked into the store! He assumed two young children of color tried to steal a huge box?! I calmly said "Sir, they did not touch anything, we just got here and the alarm has been going off." Then he said after I walked away, "It's not a playground in here!" WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! We just walked into the store! They're tiny kids! He should be fired! What a horrible feeling. My nephew was afraid and didn't understand why the man was yelling at him. I am so upset by this. I will be calling and complaining too. That old white man worker really was a nasty, biased human who made two kids feel unwelcome. Welcome to Edmonds Bowl Ace Hardware! The place where you can find everything from car tabs to staple guns, and also some unsolicited advice from the staff. Let me tell you what happened... I went to the store yesterday to get my car tabs (they have a WA state department of licensing inside) and some other stuff. As I was browsing, I noticed a lady following me around like a shadow. Maybe she thought I was lost or needed help, but I just wanted to shop in peace. I felt so awkward that I left without finding what I wanted. Today I came back to get my tabs and remembered what I needed. I asked for a staple gun and the lady who helped me stuck with me like glue. I still had to find staples for it, so I politely asked her to give me some space. No offense, but I don't need a babysitter. When I got what I needed, I decided to look around some more, and that's when BRIAN came out of nowhere and told me to "respect my elders." Respect is earned, not demanded, and you yelling at me is not the way to get it. I told him it wasn't about age and I felt singled out the day before. Brian has given me a reason to share my experience with others. Tomorrow, I will call the store manager and explain how they can improve their customer service, diversity awareness, and how not to make regular customers feel welcome. This store is not for you if you wear a if you have tattoos, look slightly different, or if you're not part of the old boys club. Also, Brian needs to chill and learn some manners. read more

Who I can't stand is the older long straight grayish hair lady. She's rude, unfriendly and I swear constantly watches you. Almost makes me not want to go in when I see that she's working. Omg love this variety store ! Showed up on a Saturday night to get keys made. Such friendly service! As I walked around waiting for my sets to be made I was in awe with everything this store sells ! Unique BBQ sauce and rubs to a great beer and wine selection! The chocolate chip homemade cookies were delicious and the deli looked great! I so want to support this store as it is local, convenient, and not a big-box store. Their only marketing advantages are 1) location and 2) customer service. They cannot compete on price vs. Home Depot or Lowes. So I purchased an item for $2.79 online for pickup at the store in Edmonds, WA. Picked it up the next day no problem other than the cashier asking me what it was. I'm thinking my ID should pull that up? So, after standing in line to pick up the item (they always have long lines), I went home. Unfortunately, the item I purchased didn't work as it was the wrong size (unopened). So, I retuned the next day with my receipt and the item to request a refund. With item and receipt in hand, the cashier informs me that they cannot issue a refund since the manager is not present - he is at some conference. I am totally baffled as I was there with the unopened item, the day after purchase online, with receipt. They said to come back another day. Seriously, come back another day? In my experience, I've never had a problem returning an unopened item within the return policy with receipt! I should mention that this was a return for $3. Good grief! This is unacceptable service. This store, which is a franchise, needs help. read more

I get really upset with the bait and switch scheme. Went to buy a hedge trimmer for 149.00. The one the clerk brought looked like the same trimmer (but with a different scu.) Rang up for $219.00. Grr Spent 40 minutes trying to get it resolved. What a waste of my time. read more

I'm not one to leave a review, especially based on emotions. I have to say though, that my experiences in this store are usually pretty uncomfortable or negative. I like the convenience of this little store, from everything an Ace hardware store provides, to a small little grocery and deli, to having access to licensing and registration. Now the grievances. Today I just wanted to pop in and back out without complication. A good handful of associates need some customer service training. It's definitely a bad look when employees act as if the patrons are wasting their time and then get ushered out the door. Don't expect any help without major attitude from the deli staff and some of the checkout staff. Bedside manner isn't their thing. read more

My husband and I needed an extension cord for lights at Christmas. We had been enjoying the beachfront in Edmonds on a beautiful sunny day. We had a choice of going to Fred Meyer who has everything, including crowds and too much legwork for a lonely item......or take a chance on a local hardware store in Edmonds. My husband said we would spend more at the smaller store..... I said that was open for debate, but we would surly save a lot of aggravation :). And we did. Greeted by the clerk at the front door we learned exactly where the extension cords would be. Only $1.99 for simple lightweight cord. Good price. Now the fun part. This is not just a hardware store (a very neat everything in its place store!!), it has a small grocery section, deli, frozen, dairy section, wine, plus a fresh build your own salad bar and seating at the window bar. I've had excellent service at this Ace hardware in the past from individuals who knew hardware and had the ability to listen to the customers' description of a problem and come up with practical solutions. Those "MacGyver" types are the jewels in any hardware store's crown -- and the reason why we love small town hardware stores and keep going back. But the woman who opened the store yesterday on Saturday was dour and rude. I made no comment -- I just observed her self-sabotaging behavior, quietly paid, and left... and did the rest of my shopping that day at Lowe's. Not everyone's a MacGyver -- but at least try -- or, at minimum, find a way to be useful and charming enough to not be a net drain on the operation. I felt sorry, too, for the young lad she was browbeating -- just another observation. But he'll learn in time that there are better working environments to be had. Great people understand teamwork and that's what makes any job great. Just hoping the great ones I've encountered in the past at this store haven't voted with their feet and left. This Ace Hardware is out of my way to visit, so I've only been here twice since it came in and took over the former supermarket. It's clean and well organized, but it doesn't have the volume or selection of items one will find in big box store or on Amazon. There was no interaction with any of the staff except for checking out, so no comment on that. There's been no change to the parking lot - still the same, medium sized lot. I don't know why shopping in a hometown store expels such warm feelings. But every time I walk through the doors of Ace hardware in Edmonds I am greeted with the hickory wood smell of an old fashioned store. I love browsing the aisles for unique items or something specific. 9 out of 10 times they have what I'm looking for. Even though you would think that you won't find it because it is small and limited to space for everything. They have it!!!! I also like to get my paint choices here as you don't have long lines like the box stores and they are super willing to help you figure out the exact color you are looking for. The deli is pretty cool too! They have some delicious choices and even Bbq meats. Guess that's the reason for the incredibly good smell when you come in. Every time I visit Ace I'm reminded why I just need to come here first, instead of doing so after Home Depot has failed me. Ace packs more quality and selection into about ten percent of the space. Sure, you can't buy lumber here, or major appliances, but for things like nuts and bolts? No place better. read more

I've shopped here a lot over the past few months. The selection is outstanding, it is obvious that this store pays attention to stocking a lot of hardware, tools, etc. Every employee I've dealt with has been knowledgeable and helpful. The shopping experience for hardware is much more convenient than either on line or big box stores. For staples (like nails and screws) you will surely pay more than big box prices but not excessively more. They also carry Stihl power tools for your yardwork, they have a paint section, and a deli counter. Added bonus: they carry a good selection of beer in the cooler! Every few weeks they barbecue on Fri-Sat-Sun in a smoker trailer parked out front. The ribs are fantastic. If you are a buy local fan, check this store. I was initially pleased to see the Ace open up at this location. Have been in about 7 times. Today was the last time I go in there. It has been a real Jekyll and Hyde experience for me. The employees are helpful in directing you to the spot where the item you were looking for used to be stocked, then take 15 minutes to write a "rain check" (in one case for the WRONG item.) I always shop at Edmonds Ace before I would go to Home Depot or Lowes. (Shop Local) I had a unopened item and receipt for item, but Ace couldn't accept for refund or credit. I had purchased 120 days before, but could not use. They did accept the $28.00 item as a donation. I wonder if this will affect my loyalty? read more

This business is located in the former Petosa's and former Edmonds IGA. It is mostly a hardware store but it is also a striped down grocery that stocks the basics. My wife and I were greeted as we entered and an employee asked what we were looking for and walked back with us to find the items. There seemed to be ample employees to help. We found what we needed without the endless walking you have to do in a big box store. It was pretty painless. I probably would not do much grocery shopping there but it would be convenient if you ran out of milk or eggs at the same time you needed hardware. Service is a hit or miss depending on who helps you. My fiancee tried to pick my tabs up for me. We have different addresses on our licenses because we never updated them. It's 45$ too and didnt see the point since its all current on the dOL website. Anyway the clerk at the licensing counter wouldnt let her pick them up. My fiancee knows everything about me inlcuding my SS and they wouldnt even accept that. Apparently they need "written" permission from me. Anyway I came here myself to get them and they only glanced at my ID for a half second and then handed them over. Except when she tried to do it she was interrogated to the point where she wanted to cry. So thats strike one. Strike two when I came here to actually pick my tabs up I grabbed a cold beverage and waited at the Deli for almost 10 minutes only to be ignored by the deli clerk the whole time. His name was joey and he didnt care. I was on the fence about calling the store but lets be honest what would that have done. Nothing. Front counter said they were short staffed. While in the store I looked for someone to help me find ice packs. Had to keep following one gal to help me because everytime I would try to get her attention she would run away. Guess I need to be louder. Seems like a friendly enough store but also seems like they only want to help boomers and "old fashioned people" if you catch my drift. Now availabilty. I got through to an over confident young employee who fumbled over my request. This was my third time here today only to be harassed, profiled/stereotyped with my room mate! not eve 5 seconds in the door, one person came from one side and one from another like a covert operation. Everyone here is really nice with a few exceptions but the food in the deli is awful and over priced and sometimes the people working the deli aren't on the ball-they are slow and get things wrong. The ribs have been over cooked the three times I got them, they were out of my first four choices last time I went and it's overall just over cooked. Buy paint and hardware here? Sure. Food? Nah. Pearl!!! The most amazing clerk ever. You saved the day!! After having a portable ac unit on hold at Lowe's - that they then sold! And heading to another Ace hardware that said they had them in stock - but didn't. We called Edmonds and Pearl said she didn't have any but did have Arctic Cooler fans that work in smaller spaces and were on $45. She held the last one for us until we could drive there. When we arrived she told us she had a second one that had been running for show in the store but we were welcome to it as well! She showed us how to use them - gave us tips - and made sure we got signed up for ace rewards because it was extra points day. Went to the deli this Saturday past. I had the pulled pork sandwich w/side of mashed potatoes and gravy. My wife had a made to order turkey sandwich, both orders came with medium soda. Great portion, great taste, great value. The burger joint next to them had greasy tables and filthy food splattered menus. We left! Went to the deli inside the Ace Hardware store. Wow, so glad we did. Good food at a fair price. We will make this a go to destination for sure. read more

Really great experience here. Needed a kitchen faucet. Big box stores not helping as we didn't want to have to go in and walk around and their curb side pickup was at least two days out. Called Ace in Edmonds. Sandra grabbed the item we needed and brought it to the counter. When we arrived my hubby was in and our in 5 minutes. Sandra was pleasant and cheerful!! Thanks. Today paint "2 for 1 special in Valspar" , picked colors after much deliberation took color sample home to decide. Go in store to purchase and the Valspar is not available (go figure) ended up with other brand. We'll see about the color they tried to match. Also yesterday "buy one, get one free" "Mix or Match" Ace brand light bulbs, when rung up at register they were not discounted. Told them what signage said, they said they would have to check when they weren't waiting on customers. What was I? Left without purchasing.
