Monday Adam called to clarify what was wrong and what had been tried. He discussed what the next steps would be and what the price would be to get it running and to backup my school files (lesson and unit plans, videos, etc.) We agreed and he let me know it might be a couple of days. Tuesday at noon, I got the call. My laptop was fixed! The problems (a corrupted Windows update and drivers from my laptops' manufacturer) were taken care of and I could pick it up.
