What a nice surprise to find in the Hourglass District! The inside of the restaurant is remodeled and trendy. There is dining inside and set up is similar to Chipotle. The difference is the vegetables are cooked! I had the pulled chicken bowl. The spicy Mexican rice was fire and really shaped the enjoyment of the bowl. The jasmine rice was soft and the spices in the Mexican rice was just right. I picked the vegetables: corn, mushroom and eggplant-all cooked! Yesss! It complemented the rice and pulled chicken. What an amazing local spot for fresh food! This is like an elevated Chipotle where you can create either a Latin or Mediterranean dish. Starting at the beginning you'll chose between a bowl, arepa or tortilla. What I love about the base, protein and sides is the amount of flavorful options. It would be wrong to compare JJ's Fresh to chipotle because JJ is in a league of it's own. Those are my thoughts after having vigorously enjoyed my take away meal from here. (which I was only able to eat a third of by the way) Massive portions! I mean, I honestly think my bowl weighed at least 5 pounds. I told the young woman behind the counter that it was my first time there and she gave me a full run down, and I really like their Mediterranean options. That lentil rice was really delicious! I honestly wasn't expecting it to taste that good, I'm not a huge lentil fan, but they proved it's all about preparation! I asked for tofu, and I have to admit it was entertaining watching them prepare it fresh. I watched as they tossed the tofu into a pan and added olive oil, spices, and slightly sweet sauce that went well with the lentil rice. It was clear that the items were made from scratch (as mentioned in the name). I got a Mediterranean bowl and my husband got more of a Mexican bowl. The lentil rice was so flavorful. The Latin pulled chicken melted in my mouth. The tatziki sauce was heavy on the dill-- which I love. The eggplant was arguably some of the best I've ever had. And the tabouli gave the entire bowl an absolute ton of flavor. I got fruit infused water-- cucumbers, strawberries, lemon, and lime. So refreshing and unlimited refills. This place is a little hidden gem. I've passed by a million and one times but a close friend who's foodie judgment I trust highly recommended them. It's a quick casual dining experience where you build your own bowl. My go to: spicy Mexican rice as a base, roasted pork & pulled chicken, feta and cheddar shredded cheese, guac, tzatziki sauce, sour cream, scratch sauce (honey-chipotle vinaigrette) and then the fillers like beans, lettuce, plantains, etc. I love that when i come here the food is ALWAYS fresh and everyone working there is happy to help and doesn't mind answering your questions about the menu. Also, love that they don't necessarily put a cap or max on the sauces like some other more commercial places. The restaurant itself and bathrooms are always super clean when I go. They don't skimp on the portions either, you will have leftovers...unlike places like Chipotle. read more

It's been three years since I've eaten here and I am LOVING the change. This is my new lunch spot! The meats are so tender, fresh, and flavorful. The sauces are flavor-packed. We've tried the grilled chicken and pulled chicken and hav our eyes on the carnitas for our next collaboration. There are an assortment of fresh toppings to add to your dish. I've tried the eggplant, tabouli, plantains, sautéed onions, and mushrooms and they are all very good. Cooked just right with great flavor! I don't get tired of eating here because with all the options, I can have Mediterranean or Latin themed dishes. They even had a flavorful assortment of bases for your bowl. Fantastic food. I was looking for a local restaurant to replace chipotle since they've disappointed me so many times and I try to stay away from fast food as often as possible. This place reminds me of a Mediterranean Mexican fusion build your own concept. I love that you get so many flavor options of tortillas alone and rices. I love pretty much all of the toppings but especially the mushrooms. I ask for a triple scoop because it's so good! And the vibes and ambiance are nice too. I ordered the spicy Mexican bowl with the Latin brisket meat. Very tasty! The brisket had a very strong flavor/seasoning. I'm not sure what it is but it is pretty good but be warned it is a heavy flavor. I stopped in for lunch and it's definitely an ideal set up for lunch, but could definitely be an on the go dinner as well. There is a hefty charge for the guacamole but it's delicious and they give a huge serving of it. Prices were reasonable and the salad mix for my bowl was fresh (a lot of places with spring mix can't seem to keep it fresh). Overall, I'd come back if in the area. I didn't love the flavor profile of the steak, which is the main reason for 4 stars, but it's definitely better than Chipotle's. read more
