They have a great assortment of records. I found plenty of 80's albums in great shape, I was impressed by the condition of all the records I purchased. The Owner gave a free cloth record bag with their logo printed on the side. I can't wait to return. I highly recommend this record store! read more

My brother and I stumbled upon Jive Time as we headed toward another competing record store in the University District. This is a small but adequate record store located between Fremont and the UD. I ended up enjoying this place more than the other place we went. There were some fantastic 99 cent vinyl deals out front, along with 99 cent CDs -- I was able to snag the first Great Lake Swimmers record and a long out of print Jawbreaker disc! While the size didn't compete with some other record stores I have frequented, the selection was still impressive. There were thousands of new and used selections on vinyl and the place seemed to be hopping on a Sunday afternoon. I am not sure if the owner checked us out, but he was nice, knowledgeable, and seemed to be as excited with our vinyl finds as we were! I'm not sure of the next time I will be back in Seattle -- family is moving away from that area -- but I would definitely return to Jive Time to peruse the used section! read more

There's no way you can walk out of here without buying something. It took me about 20 minutes to even go inside because I was digging through the 99 cent crates right outside the door. Although this place is a lot smaller than Bop Street, it still has all the essentials at fair prices and a more homely atmosphere. When I went I was only looking for deals so I spent the majority of my time going through the 4 for $10 piles. Being the soul lover that I am, I walked away with some Smokey Robinson, The O'Jays, Roberta Flack, Teddy Pendergrass, The Gap Band, Earth Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, and Prince albums as well as a 12 inch "How High" single by Redman & Method Man for only $20 altogether. Jive Time is the spot in Seattle for great deals on vinyl! read more

I went to Seattle for work one September and on one of my days off, ran into this place by accident. It would be hard to find if you were to be looking for it so just remember the the 2 story Peet's coffee shop is across the street. I ended up getting some Hendrix, Joni, and 50 records from the sidewalk dollar section... And still kept under my hundred dollar budget! Nice. read more

My favorite Seattle Record Store. - Good prices - Friendly, personable, helpful staff - good music selection I love just strolling by sometimes and taking a look at their 99cent pile. I always find something good, feels like finding a $20 on the street read more

I love sifting through their bargain crates under the shade of the leafy trees. Nipper (the RCA dog) is always smiling at me through the window. The place is kind of small and hard to navigate, and is less concerned with contemporary music, but nonetheless it has charm. The employees are nice too. read more

Jive Time is my favorite used record store in Seattle, and that's saying a lot. The used LPs are reasonably priced (no $10 Huey Lewis records here) and prices are regularly discounted until the records sell, so you can always find some cool stuff for a bargain in the $3 or $.99 bins. I like hunting for strange and unusual records, and have always ended up with a big pile by the time I leave this place. You want "Georgy Girl" performed on a sitar? No problem. Venezuelan funk from the early '70s? Got it. Russian disco? Here ya go... The guys at Jive Time are friendly and knowledgeable too, which isn't the case in every store in town. Be sure to set aside plenty of time for bin-digging though, 'cause their small store is packed, and then they've got an annex across the street with lots more to go through too. read more

Stopped in here while killing time before an appointment in Seattle. I unfortunately don't own a record player but their vinyl section definitely seemed happening. A lot of stuff I would have liked to purchase. Their CD selection did not disappoint, however, I picked up Don Byron's Tuskege Experiments for $5.99 and David Bowie's Outside for $3. Crazy good deals on both. I was happy. read more

Took 14 records in to trade and they offered $20 in trade. Instead, I proceeded to go over to Everyday Music and they gave me $56 in trade. Hmm... it's happened enough to know that Jive will rip you off and give you pennies on your records, though it does depend on who's working there. This makes it as bad as Bob Street records, which is highway robbery. Protect yourself and know how much your records are worth. read more

Great selection of used cds. Very friendly and knowledgable staff.

so far this is in my top 3 record shops in Seattle. I've only been there once so far but COULD NOT BELIEVE they had Jobriath's second release on the wall!! I also thumbed through the Recent Arrivals section and found a Distorted Pony record..simply blown away by this and bought it immediately. I freaked out on the guy behind the counter about how fucking amazing their selection was, he took it in stride, and totally understood my excitement, and I liked him right away. I'm sad that I haven't been able to get back there yet, living where I do it's a bit of a journey by bus getting all the way out to Fremont, and I need money to burn which at times I do not have. read more

Love this store! Well laid out, good assortment of used/new, reasonable prices and vinyl is in ++ condition! Could spend all day in this store! read more

i thought this place was great. the clerk was hands on.. i found about 20 records that i wanted there.. i felt there could have been a few more rare soul records, but everything i found was not over priced... I also found a rare ravi shankar record witch made my day... Jive Time is from now on my first place to check when i'm in Seattle for records!!!!! read more

It's obvious from the reviews already posted this place is great, but what really made it for me was the subtle things. The main record bins had a good selection of stuff from 60's to present, and none of them seemed clogged with overpriced junksale records like so many other stores are. The records tended to be on the cleaner side, they were all in new poly bags, and the pricing was pretty good too. In addition there were several "cheap" bins. I think one where everything was $5, another where everything was $3, and another where everything was $1. Just flipping through the $3 and $5 I saw tons of good rock records. It was common yardsale stuff or things that were in less good shape, but for $3-$5 it was totally worth it. Its nice to see a store selling common stuff for what it's actually worth. The staff were friendly, knoledgable, and unintrusive . I didn't even end up buying much but it was such a pleasant experience regardless, I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

i rarely find the courage to go visit jive time because i can never walk away without buying a new musical gem or find. Best Seattle secret Ever!!! My one request is to use some of your boss designs to make t-shirts and such. That space needle playing the record in that stranger add for bumbershoot was tantalizing read more

We got the pleasure of working with Brian this morning and he is one of the best. He knows the business and is very professional.

Dangerous store! Walked in just to look and bought over 20 records. Great used records and the $.99 bins are full of gems, definitely going to be a go to when looking to add to my collection. read more

A cool little record store in Fremont where you can find some great deals on used records and CDs. Their CD selection is kinda small, but they have a fairly extensive record selection. Most used CDs were priced $7.99, but they also had many for 99 cents to $2. Its great cheap way to fill up some holes in your ipod music collection. read more

Hands down my favorite store in Seattle and maybe anywhere ever. I've gotten some of my favorite records purchases there! Every time I'm there I'm absolutely astounded at the killer selection. A lot of hard to find gems. Even has a decent discount bin. The guy who works there is THE COOLEST! I've talked music and he's seen it and heard it all. Very very cool, very very genuinely friendly, engaging guy. read more

Jive Time is truly the picture of what a higher-volume record shop should be. Their pricing is fair in the main shop, well-organized, sleeved, and the guy working the counter that's usually there when I've been is really cool and helpful. I'm in the record shop business myself and as I tend to take a more critical view of other record shops from having a larger knowledge base on operations and such I can easily say this is my favourite place to go when I'm in Seattle. I almost always find something cool and hard to find for my personal collection -- debut domestic Françoise Hardy LP, Stan Rogers independent folk LP, Astrud Gilberto other than Shadow of Your Smile and Getz au Go-Go -- and it's awesome that they have their annex at the Fremont Vintage Mall with a true bounty of overstock items from 99 cents to rarely over $3 each. I've found records in the 99 cent bottom bin many times that I would be charging $8-10 for in my own place. Jive Time is the perfect combination of sound business philosophy and great selection with cool oddities/rarities. Really, the only very slight negatives I can think of is that I'd like a little brighter lighting inside for judging condition and that it'd be nice to have the bottom bins in the main shop organized better. Not enough to lose a star, even for somebody who grades on my harsh scale. Love Jive Time! read more

So good I had to go back a second time! Actually has three locations, with the annex in the antique mall down the street and in a clothing store up on Capitol Hill. Hit the Capitol Hill area store first and bought a huge stack of goodies for just under 60 dollars. While checking out the helpful clerk told me about the other two locations and we skipped the rest of Capitol Hill and went to Fremont. Awesome selection of reasonably priced vinyl from .99 cents to 3.00 (or 4 for $10). Very friendly staff as well! My happiest Seattle record store experience!!! read more

everything u can want in a record store. great selection of records with some hard to find classics. a great guy who worker there who knew his stuff. my mom enjoyed talking to him about the old days and he played us a band she was curious about. my mom may be one of the few who stills buys cassettes but they got 'em here. and she gladly bought her 99 cent cassette tape. read more

Vinyl digger heaven in Seattle. 99 cents bin is perfect for my record cravings without breaking the bank. The owner is nice and really knows his stock. When the other store was open he would call over there to see if they had any of the records we were looking for. I'll be back plenty. read more

Jive Time is a great little shop. They have reasonable prices and a great selection of rock albums. I wish they had a wider selection of hip-hop and metal, but you can't beat their wide array of classics, rock and indie. If you're a vinyl lover, this is a spot you should definitely put on your list. It's almost certain that you'll leave with an album or two. read more

This little jewel is a time machine with vast amounts of amazing music packed into one little box of a store. the whole experience takes me back to my stoner days. Great times! read more

This place is awesome. I bought Paul Simons Graceland album from here a few days ago and when I got home it started skipping. I was so worried about taking it back and thinking they wouldn't exchange it or give me my money back (like other record stores I've been to) but they totally exchanged it for me, no questions asked! And when that second record skipped as well, they sold me a newer one for only a few dollars more and they were so awesome about it. The whole process not only made my day but solidified that I'll be coming back here anytime I want to buy a used or new record. read more

Great local record shop complete with actual records, CDs, and some tapes.

A great record store. Well organized with a vast selection of all genres and fair prices. Staff is very friendly and helpful. While I prefer digging for used records, I like that Jive Time mixes in brand new albums as well as reissues. It's cool that you can pull out a used LP of a band from the 70's that you never heard of as well as an obscure group who just released their debut album all in one store. read more

This place makes me want to own a record player. It's got a great collection of records that I really dig and the owner seems very knowledgeable about his vinyl. They have a good selection of CDs too and I was able to find some interesting stuff there. They also have a bargain annex in the nearby Fremont Vintage Mall and that's worth checking out if you have the time. read more

This unpretentious little store, located next door to a lovely used bookstore (Ophelia's), offers a really nice selection of cheap albums. I'm regularly surprised and delighted to find a hidden gem here for just 99 cents or a couple bucks. Some warnings: be sure to check for scratches and that the correct album is located in the sleeve (a friend thought she was purchasing AC/DC only to end up with a spoken word Steve Martin album). That said - only go here for used albums. The prices of new albums are frequently much higher than other record stores like Sonic Boom. In addition, due to its size, it can get a little crowded and challenging to peruse the aisles, so I recommend going during off-peak hours. read more

Stopped by to sell some records and it was a great experience all around. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great selection of stuff. Cool t-shirt designs too. read more

This is my all-time favorite record store in Seattle. You might say that I'm biased but no other store really compares when it comes to vinyl. The staff is top-notch and the racks are clean and organized. The owner won't stock any covers that look like junk. The records are priced (which is a plus) and the prices are reasonable. The more common the record, the cheaper they get (down to .99 cents each). Even if you can't afford the $50 plus albums up on the wall, it's worth a visit just to see the collage of great cover art. Parking is a bit tough but you can park in the lot underneathe the PCC acrossed the street "Free" for at least an hour. No visit to Seattle would be complete without a visit to Jive Time. read more

This is my favorite record store in Seattle. They have great deals (four $3 for $10, coupons online!!!) and they probably have the best selection of desirable records. Even the $.99 bins have some good gems. (Which is great if you're carrying your free $.99 record coupon) The staff is very nice, and prices are very good. The regular priced stuff is not cheap, but it's fair, and if you use a coupon, in essence it's all good. I've actually stopped by here and bought a record, then headed on over to Easy Street right after and found it for cheaper. But I've gotten too much good stuff at Jive Time for real cheap to make up for it. I picked up a Mono 2-Eye of Dylan's Times are Changin' for only $3! Granted the cover was pretty beat up, but no splits or anything. You definitely can find some great deals. Also check out their selection at the Fremont Antique mall next to Starbucks across the street. They've got a pretty good collection there too, and it's usually all really cheap. read more

Compared to Bop Street the selection is MUCH smaller though I was able to find more of what I was looking for on my list. The owner was nice and pointed out a few things I probably wouldn't have picked out on my own. I had an easier time finding more recent stuff from the 80's and up whereas Bop Street seemed to be stronger when it came to 50's to 70's stuff. read more

Great owner, good selection, nice vibe, thanks for staying open a little later for us!!!

Jive Time Records is a great shop! It is beautifully organized which is so appreciated when most of the record stores (at least that I have been to) are a complete mess. The person working behind the counter was very friendly and knowledgeable which made the experience even better. I left the shop with 7 or 8 new records to add to my collection. Some of the records were not just cheaper than competitors, but vastly under-priced. If I lived in the area, I would definitely go back! read more

Everyday Music has a superior collection, but Jive Time is nice for their $1 bin and occasional finds.

this is the best record store i've found in seattle. sure it takes a little bike ride from the hill, but it's mostly flat getting there. seriously, this is a great place to go and find records. the sale section near the front door always has good stuff reasonably priced (5 dollars for a depeche album there, like $10-$15 everywhere else) they always have a good selection, great prices and the records are in good condition, the staff isn't arrogant or pretentious or rude. what more could you ask for? ok i could do without the weird old guy who just talks at people. read more

All the accolades for Jive Time is warranted. Don't let its smaller size fool you; there is where the old adage "quality, not quantity" is in full bloom! I have ALWAYS had great customer service at Jive Time. No hipster holier-than-thou BS here! Their vinyl, CD, and video selection is wonderful. read more

I'll admit I'm new to vinyl collecting. I had a milk crate of good stuff in college that I sold when i down sized. I recently got a new turn table. I went to a couple of other spots on Market St. and left basically depressed. The price at those stores was so high. I kind of thought the good old days of cruising a reasonably priced discount bin were long gone. Until my friend told me about Jive time. On market street I spent $110 and got 6 records. I bought 35 for $97 today at Jive time. They are all in really great shape with only some surface scratches and a little dust, but for a used record what do you expect? I now have a new problem, storage. I'm sure Jive time will become a new $20 a week hobby. Head down to Fremont, grab a coffee flip through some vinyl, go home and listen. So stoked! read more
