Awesome fun little record store in the heart of one of Seattle's busiest attractions, Pike Place Market! Had to work to find it after looking the store up on the internet, but was absolutely worth it. We were only in Seattle for a day, so i needed to find a place that was close to our hotel that would represent the Seattle music heritage and scene well since i was only going to be able to visit one, and Holy Cow Records did the job very well!! Per my profile, I sometimes find things accidentally. And this record store was one of those times. While playing tourist at Pikes Place Market I found this record store and decided to peruse through it. Very cool! If I had a record play I saw two albums I would have bought. Lionel Richie and Tina Turner. So many records here you could definitely get lost looking at all the vinyl. And wow, cassesttes galore! Are cassette tape players even available now? Who knowes. It was fun to see so many "old school" music choices. The vibe here is chill and selection huge! I decided to spend a small amount of time here only because I didn't want to be tempted to make a purchase. I don't have the technology to play records or cassettes either. This is one of my must stops every time I have time and am in Pike Place. They have such good selection, and still sell all types of media (it's been getting harder to find tapes but they still have quite a few). Prices are reasonable, I've gotten some really good stuff from their discount record bins but new records are also not overpriced. Always found staff to be genuine and able to answer any questions I have, they move through the line quickly even when it's busy! Good views from the store too, the space is super cute and I love being there! read more

Seems like a cool record store but I had the worst experience by far while visiting Seattle. If you're looking to buy records, make sure the person ringing you up knows how to operate the card machine and register. While processing my transaction only a certain amount was approved due to the balance on my account. I was going to pay the remaining balance in cash but the worker wouldn't believe me that the partial total was charged to my card, even after showing him the transaction on my end (mobile bank app). He was stuck on the fact that he didn't have a receipt to prove their was a transaction. I proceeded to call the bank to prove to him that part of the balance was paid, but after wasting an HOUR just at that store, I wasted too much time trying to prove that I paid a portion. I left without the records I partially paid for and had the bank cancel the transaction. I understand that on their end they need to make sure they collected money however customer service at an epic low. It wasn't until 45 min of time wasted that he offered to call his boss to ask for help. The worst customer service although the was trying to be nice. Total bummer. Don't waste your time there unless you want to waste a good amount of your day trying to help them figure out how to ring you up. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

Good assortment of older artists. The store is categorized by main stream, jazz, 80s, etc so make sure you check out each area so that you don't miss some gems. Picked up a few 80s Japanese pressings of Wham, Eurythmics, Madonna, and others in the 80s section. Check them out weekly as they receive new shipments constantly. Oh, and bring a shopping bag so that you can carry out your selection unless you'd like to buy one of their cute blue totes. read more

Sadly this place is two levels down at Pike Place and I had no idea it was here but for the last 5 years I get here one a year and always find something to bring home. Very good selection of records and yes the prices can seem high on a lot of the titles. I have always found something in my budget and the guy who I always see there is friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about a wide range of music. So don't hesitate to ask for help. Holy Cow is a small somewhat disorganized store in the Pike Place Market basement. Granted it's not Silver Platters but for a place this small there should be some order to the place. Now my tip is ask the person at counter if he has any cool stuff behind the counter. I scored a sealed copy of a SWEET LP I was looking for. He even negotiated a lower price so the place isn't that bad. Overall a little over priced but not outrages and limited on supply for things I want. So if you strike out, go watch the flying fish! read more

Holy Cow Records is a nice store with very pleasant and helpful staff. It's a little cramped and messy. Make sure to look around, as there are various pockets of records all over the place. Some of the main rock section is even underneath the bins due to space limitations. The prices may be a little higher than average, even for Seattle but I didn't find them to be out of line at all. I visited the store twice on my recent visit to town and left with a couple of albums, each time. Holy Cow isn't the best record store in Seattle but they have a lot of competition and it's certainly a good store. Recommended, especially if you're already in the Pike's Market area and enjoy digging for used vinyl. read more

I came here on a Friday afternoon with my dad who is elated records stores are still very popular in some places. The worker was very nice and answered all my dads questions. I was so glad to find this shop in the market. I stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon and was able to escape the madness of street level. While the shop is small, they have a wonderful selection of used vinyl and well organized. The employee, Miles, was helpful and provided some great suggestions of bands I was unfamiliar with after learning what I was searching for. I ended up purchasing Bob Dylan's New Morning and The Jerry Hahn Brotherhood's self-titled album (Miles' suggestion), and a T-shirt. Just posted a photo of the records i bought from here which i love love love love I'm assuming there's one vinyl store in pike market so I'm assuming this is the one i went to (it was a little hard to find and another shop owner in a bookstore directed me here) HUUUGE selection! there's no room to look and so so many selections in a tiny place so i kind of just looked at genres and artists and would pull a few out! if i could i would buy 20 more records but moneys a little tight right now the guy gave me a discount on the RAM album i was buying too and also grabbed my records for me as i continued to look tip: bring a bag! because when i bought my records it was raining out what else... yeah the 3 albums i bought from here are my favorite in my collection for now and I can't stop listening to them. This is a vinyl store. The selection of CDs is very small and not too deep. I was hoping for more in the CD kingdom, so I was a little disappointed. Didn't browse the vinyl, since that's not what I was shopping for on this particular trip (it's hard to bring large, fragile discs home with you safely on an airplane). Store was a little messy and I didn't see any posters, or other merch on sale. The shop is on one of the lower levels of the tourist market. I didn't realise that there were multiple floors to the place when I first tried to find this shop - I just gave up when I hit the wall of people swarming everywhere. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, since I didn't browse the vinyl, but I probably wouldn't return. Just battling the vacant-eyed crowds of tourists to even get to this place was very stressful. read more

Stumbled on this place while on vacation and checking out Pike Place Market. I had some time so I thought I'd dig around a bit, assuming it was a tourist trap or crappy resale shop. Turns out, these guys know their stuff. I was impressed by the selection for such a small space, and I happened to find a couple records that I just could not let go. Problem is, I'm on vacation. How do I get records home? They were happy to ship for me for a VERY reasonable price and handled everything for me. They showed up on my doorstep about 3 days after I got back home. First time visiting Seattle so I'm not sure how pricing works, or how readily this shop receives vintage records, but I was really disappointed. It's honestly outrageous to me that I would come across The Beatles Rubber Soul and it be priced at $45 or The White Album, priced $75?!?! I have been collecting records for awhile now and have never ran into prices that high. I actually have BOTH of those albums, original pressings, among many other ranging from Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Pink floyd just to name a few. Never have I paid more than $30. I read the reviews and thought this place would be alright to visit since someone mentioned this store carrys stuff typical LPs from well known artists... 1. This place should be called "Holy Shit Records" 2. Small space with jam packed vinyls that are mixed with junk and worth buying BUT, the price is way too expensive comparing to many other Seattle record stores I went to. 3. I just couldn't spend more than 5 minutes or so then left without buying anything. Waste of trip and $3 parking fee. 4. Anyone who reads my reviews would know this, I'm a record store snob. Holy Cow is a nice place that's (probably intentionally) dirty and filled with leather jacketed hipsters bobbing their heads to a Bob Marley song. This all sounds fine and dandy, but as far as record stores go, Holy Cow doesn't do it for me. Their collection of records is weird, so you have to ask the very nice staff if they have anything behind the counter, because that's usually where the good records are (???). Holy Cow carries a random selection of CD's, but again, not fitting my taste. Holy Cow would be an amazing record store for some people, but right now I'm just going to stick to Easy Street. One extra star because the guy behind the counter was very nice and conversational. read more

I was so impressed with the feel of the store that I didn't even notice a cow theme. I felt like I'd been blasted back to the indie record stores of my adolescence. I felt like I was blasted back to Urban Renewal or Cellophane Square a la 1985. He had a great selection of fun stuff. I managed to find an Aztec Camera Cassette (my car only has a cassette player) that was $2.99. The poster selection was fun, and there were tons of cd's, vhs and dvds as well as some pretty awesome vinyl. The owner was really nice, helpful and funny! Oh, and I forgot to mention he has a selection of 8-Tracks, too! I wanted to spend the whole day in there, but I had an impatient 8 year old with me, so we had to move on. I've been in this place a few times before during my Pike Market adventures and each time I've gone out empty handed and disappointed. Maybe I'm not the crowd the store caters to, but I've found the selection here fairly lacking, though the prices for what they have are pretty good and there's lots of cheap finds. Really though, if you set aside an entire section for punk/metal and you don't really have anything of either genre, it's probably best to just eliminate that area altogether. There are some classics and indie rock there though so it's probably good for purveyors of that style, and all the old VHS shelves are rad too. But I just wasn't impressed with what they have to offer. Oh well. read more

Be prepared to say "excuse me" a lot as you brush by people and records. The guy behind the counter while I was there was kind of unpleasant. Working downtown, I have become a regular at this store during lunch hour during the week. A great shop with many hidden gems. On many more obscure recordings, points of interest are written on the outer sleeves, which has prompted me to purchase several excellent albums I would have missed out on otherwise. I know this place to have a cow theme. Everything sold there either has a picture of a cow on it, has cow in it, or looks like a cow. It's kind of cute. Or, kind of strange. The owner wouldn't talk with me unless I started dancing with her to the piped in music. Hmmm. Hope nobody saw me. read more

Holy cow, indeed! It _is_ as awful as the other reviews say. Don't ever go in there after you've had some drinks. Don't ever go in there if you're in a good mood. There is an odd smell often eminates from the Market. I always thought it was the garbage heap. Now I know it is this record store. I'm a sucker. But you, dear reader, do not have to a be a sucker. You don't need to go anywhere near this little closet of pricey, damaged thrift store items. It smells, is dusty, the lights are bad, and the hours are odd. If you want to run a record store, run a record store. If you want to have a yardsale, open your garage and put up some signs. read more

Visited here on vacation in Seattle. Good selection for the size of the place and I found it to be in pretty decent order (a few here and there out of sequence but no big deal). I found a few I had been looking for and had them shipped back home to me - only 5 bucks! Got them today and they were packed nicely and in perfect condition. Really enjoyable experience. sadly, I must post this review. I went in on Record Store Day in the hopes of scoring a copy of a limited release that came out that day. To my delighted surprise they had one. Then I saw the price of $100. Begrudgingly I purchased it. I went online to a message board to vent my frustrations that one of my favorite bands was charging so much for the album. Instead I found out that most everyone else got there copy for around $50. I then went to RSD.com and discovered that Holy Cow had signed a pledge on the website promising not to mark up the prices on records on Record Store Day. I went back to confront the owner and he was very unappoligetic to the fact that he had marked up the price so much. He just had excuses about his cost for the record and that he was going to lose money on some records so he had to mark up others and that bigger stores can charge $50 because they got a price break for buying large amounts of stock. Bringing up the fact that he had signed the RSD pledge did nothing. Luckily I had not yet opened the record so I demanded a full refund since he would not offer me a partial refund. Sadly, he has lost a customer. I work upstairs from this store and had bought records there in the past. Needless to say I will go somewhere else on Record Store Day in the future. read more

Wow. Well I really wanted to check this place out before I left town, but after waiting a half an hour for the shop to open, I didn't get the chance. Five other folks also stopped in hopes of checking this store out, but all wandered away disappointed. After asking a nearby shipowner, she shrugged her shoulders and said "ehh well they sometimes open at 10, other times he shows up at 11." What a waste - clearly a lazily-run business. YES, this place is rad! Came here with a friend who knows the area and wanted to peek into this record shop. The selection is decent for being such a tiny record shop. I scored on a few albums here like The Free Design, Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood and a compilation album of French chanson covers. It's super cheap as well. The owner has his selection separated in genre and neatly organized as well. We sort of nerded out for a bit on music and I soon found out that this is his second location of Holy Cow Records. If you find yourself at Pike Place go to the basement of this area and take a look at all the shops down below. read more
