This record store made my list of "Must Go-To" spots when I came back through Seattle for a work trip. I did not realize this was my 2nd time at Spin Cycle until I walked in. This Texas girl was happy to be back here as I found some really great gems while digging here. Pricing here is fair but I was not expecting to really come under what I wanted to spend here because I was able to find a few albums I had on my Discogs Want List at half price. One of the records I was able to find was an early 1990's copy of a Beastie Boys LP. I held on to that record so tight as I continued my browsing. I was able to walk out with an early pressing of Pacific Northwesterners / riot grrl band Sleater-Kinney. I took so good care of these records as I flew back with them to bring them home with me to Austin. Staff here was friendly and super cool. I saw several people come in to sell things and they navigated that sale with checking me out super efficiently. The area was cool to hop around too. Thanks for the fun browsing! I was treated such horribly at this establishment, and I'm special needs. If you really want your vinyls, you can get them on Amazon at such a better price. This store takes advantage of people. The employees are a direct mirror. The guys name started with an R just so the owner knows who im talking about. This was it's so traumatic and I don't wish what I had to go through on anybody that employees should be punished. He is not above the law and he treated me like garbage. Overdue post for Spin Cycle, located along Broadway on Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. I've stopped in several times with The Homie. Nice indie shop where the inventory changes often enough, there's always something to discover. Also, pretty chill and never dour counter staff at Spin Cycle. May not be as vast inventory as other indies, but usually have stopped in when wandering the vicinity. We've purchased assorted CDs, DVDs, cassettes, vinyl, and stereo accessories. As someone who enjoys digging for used records, I found Spin Cycle to be a fun, if unspectacular experience. They did have quite a bit of punk and garage rock, which I really enjoy but their used selections were just so-so and a lot of the space for records is given to more common, ordinary titles that sort of run the gamut in terms of condition. Spin Cycle isn't a great store but it's just good enough that I'd probably get lulled back, if I'm ever in Seattle again. The store is also within easy walking distance of the light rail, if that's a consideration. read more

This place currently has an unofficial bootleg copy of David Bowie's "Man Who Sold The World". However they have it labeled as an 'original pressing'. An original pressing is very collectible. Thinking it was an honest mistake (you have to know what to look for), I brought it to the attention of the guy at the register. He acknowledged it was a bootleg and justified it by saying "people buy bootlegs". Uh yeah dood, but why deceive your customer into paying $75 for a $25 fake version of what you are saying is the real thing. In general this place is too cool for school. So cool that it seems whatever they've deemed not cool is relegated to a secondary section in the back portion of the store (and as such, some good finds can occasionally be had). Otherwise, they mix the better used records among the ocean of contemporary indie releases they carry (always annoying). Nonetheless it's worth dropping in every couple months and digging through, as they occasionally land some pretty great used vinyl. I almost always find something. But I've learned over the years to check condition relative to their pricing. read more

I was walking southbound on Broadway one day when out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a copy of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on a shelf. That is my second favorite video game (first is Final Fantasy VII), and it's far from the most widespread game around, so I really appreciated seeing this little gem for sale in a store on a busy street. Too bad the rest of the store could use a lot of improvement. The place is rather tiny and crowded; I know that it's only possible to work with however much space is available, but navigating this store is somewhat uncomfortable. I don't know how a name that sounds like it would belong to a laundromat came to belong to a store selling games and discs, but I guess weirder things have happened. Their selection isn't all that great, either. I did not see much in the way of Nintendo DS games or actually any newer systems at all; they seem to specialize primarily in older consoles. The condition of some of their merchandise is questionable; they put some of their stuff on the floor. You know, where everybody on this busy street walks. I swear that if I ever buy any of those used PS2 games, the cases are getting trashed. I don't care so much about buying hard copies of music, so I have nothing to say in that department. But their games for the most part are old and dirty. They don't even have that great of a selection to begin with. Instead, I would recommend Pink Gorilla in King County or Another Castle in Snohomish County for retro video games. Still, stores selling old games are a dying breed and I'm glad this one exists at all. read more

I've been here several times now and I always find something! Spin Cycle has a really great selection of video games, DVD/Blu-Rays, and vinyls...all for really great prices! I've done a lot of price comparisons and Spin Cycle beats what I can get on Amazon a majority of the time. LOVE!! I've purchased several games and a couple of movies and I'm always super happy with the quality. You'd think a $2 blockbuster movie DVD would be "scratched but playable"...not at Spin Cycle. All of the disks I've purchased have been down right pristine. I've never gotten into secondhand stores because the inventory is usually a clusterfuck and I just don't have the patience to deal with it. After a field trip to the Alber's School of Business at Seattle University, my punk student was drawn into this little shop. The records appear well-selected and graded. These are the most classic punk albums I've seen outside a punk-only store. The owner is happy to show customers where things are located. He's knowledge of both his stock and albums in general. He explained, for instance, how to identify an original Nevermind the Bollocks album. The grading and detailed comments are on the inside of the albums. They're being fair and are explaining their prices. That's rare with record sellers. I did not see the games, but did look over the DVDs. My purchase was a RHPS cast album and a Beatles album (reissue) for my dear mother. My student purchased a punk LP. I'm not sure, but I suspect this record store made his day! read more

On my recent trip to Seattle, Spin Cycle wasn't on my must visit list for record stores. I only had a few days and there were just too many stores to check out. However, I happened to be on Broadway and walked right by Spin Cycle, so i figured I'd give it a try. I'm glad that luck just so happened to bring me through the store. The selection and prices were both right on. I started by browsing the used section in the back, where I found the Art Museums LP for only $5! I also saw some cool Who records that I would have totally be on top of if I didn't already have them. Didn't find anything in the new indie/rock section up front, but that's not to say it wasn't stocked well (just that lately, there's a lot less new stuff I'm looking for.) Also cool about the front of the store was the generous video game selection. Finally, this was the only record shop in all of Seattle where the employee working asked my girlfriend and I if he could help us find anything special. I know that a lot of people go into record stores and bury their noses in vinyl but I thought it was really cool that the guy (owner?) reached out like that. read more

I love Spin Cycle! The record selection is full of gems! It's hard to walk by without seeing a record I want in the window, or just getting lured in by the awesome record they're blasting. Most records that I want seem to range from $8-15 and overall they tend to be a few dollars more than Easy Street, but they also have quite a few $1 record bins to dig through. The records that I've purchased have all been great quality and I noticed that they clearly note if a disc is missing or if there's a scratch before you buy it. I also like how they have a range of older records from the 60s to brand new and just released records. If you're unsure of what to buy, look in the "employee picks" section - I wanted them all! Note: They prefer cash, but do accept cards for a 30cent fee. read more

The first time I went into this record store was just days after receiving my own very first record player. So naturally I was overwhelmed by how much amazing music could be listened to on vinyl. That was until I spotted a record that said "Best lyricist in the game period." on a post it note on the Elzhi "The Preface" album. That was it, I was sold. I couldn't get out of there fast enough, I had to hear this album. It's passion like that about one's job that is lacking in most of my retail experiences recently. It was a great recommendation, but even better customer service. Yes I'm only in my twenties but i listen to records on my 30 year old record player. I like spin cycle because not only has old records but new releases as well. They also sell dvd's,blurays and video games. The store is tiny but packed with all types of genres! I usually come here on Sundays. I make a pit stop at vivace next door and park at the chase parking lot with no issues. The prices are spot on and the service is laid back. read more

I think most of my DVD collection came from this store. They've got a great collection--and a whole boatload of DVDs for $5. They're pretty funny on Facebook, too. The ONLY reason why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that sometimes I feel like I'm not cool enough to shop there--which is generally the shopkeeper's fault. He can come off as kind of... "ugh. Why are you here?" if you're there for non-obscure DVDs and no records. Of course, there have been other times when he's been perfectly friendly and a pleasure to talk to. If you enjoy older gaming consoles, Spin Cycle has a small but respectable selection. GameCube, NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, original Xbox, Playstation & PS2, etc. They also have original-Nintendo-style & Nintendo-64-style controllers which connect via USB to PC & Mac. I'm less of a DVD collector but they seemed to have a wide and reasonably priced collection. I knew they sold a wide collection of vinyl but was unaware they also sold cassette tapes! My friend and I walked around with our heads down, like a couple of sad Charlie Browns, after we were on our way to Gruv for our used DVD fix for the day. Upon walking up to the door and seeing that little sign that told us they were closed for good, we both became pretty quiet. Five months later, a little digital angel swooped down on broadway and gave us back our happy place with: 1-a better name, and 2-the same two guys that made Gruv so worth going into in the first place. Great selection of $5 DVDs, a blooming blu-ray section, an impressive vinyl inventory, and....glorious VHS and cassettes. Nothing but respect for these for keeping their business going. They could spit on me and I'd still probably be a lifelong customer.....though, I'm quite pleased that hasn't happened. Long live the little guys. read more

Dropped by here accidentally while not really doing much on Capitol Hill. This place is a hipster paradise. Like, first of all, it has NO CDs. Only vinyl. How much more hipster can you get? I was browsing through the vinyls out front and they were like 9/10 hipster approved. The only dirt I could get on this guy was ONE lady gaga vinyl. That's it. I'm impressed. It is lacking a few hipster classics, like *any* post rock at all. The metal selections were fairly limited. It's okay though - it does a really nice job for having such limited space. Also, it has a turntable to listen to music on! Neat. Bonus points for having Psionic Sunspots out front. read more

I don't like handing out five star reviews. This is my second and I'm not really comfortable with that. Problem is I can't bring myself to rate this place any less. To start, the dude working when my buddy brought me in here was rad. Engaged us in conversation pretty much as soon as we entered. When I noted a particular record on the wall, we then went on a short tangent about quality hip hop. The rap section at this place is not huge, but he has some sick vinyl at prices that are competitive with the best you'll find on Amazon or other e-retailers. Short of hip hop are equally impressive (though, again, not large) punk and rock sections that illustrate the care with which the store is curated. It's a niche type of shop based on my impressions, much like Wall of Sound or Singles Going Steady are, that also happens to sell DVD and blu-ray, I suspect to pay the bills. Definitely a spot I will hop in whenever I find myself on the Hill, along with Everyday Music. That first impression alone... priceless. Great little shop - I wasn't looking for anything in particular but got a used record I love at a low, low price. I was impressed by the amount of new vinyl on hand; you have to pay a premium for the 180 gram records but the price reflects certain economic realities - $25 is a pretty common price for new, audiophile vinyl. When it comes to music I'm a cheapskate - there is simply too much I need to hear, so I'll take a scuffed cheap copy almost every time, especially if something I have never heard before. There is a short list of albums I would consider worthy of the 180 gram splurge, so when I have cash burning a hole in my pocket this is where I will go! I enjoyed the clerk's talkativeness, BTW, and also enjoyed hearing the oddball music played in-house. If you are put-off by those you perceive as hipsters, and you consider the term hipster to be a perjorative, chances are you aren't shopping for rare / expensive vinyl records. If you are all these things and find yourself here, just say it's a guilty pleasure if you request a vinyl copy of "Use Your Illusion Part 2". That oughtta get you off the hook, and even if not please relax. My first vinyl record was by Foreigner but my taste eventually improved! read more

I work near Spin Cycle and I visit this spot quite often. The first section I hit is Recent Arrivals and i'm always pleased. Spin Cycle's prices are pretty damn good too, as well as of course their selection. The staff are nice and friendly and any questions I have or inquiries about a certain release are always welcomed and adhered to in a quality assured manner. Vinyl Recent Arrival bins may be one of my favorite things on the planet behind oysters-on-the-half shell, and this place is on my way home and doesn't disappoint. It's small, as is the bin, but seems to be constantly refreshed with reasonably priced gems in great shape. Seems to be heavy on stuff from late-80's - early 90's alt-college rock, through current punk and indie, which is fine with me. Also, as opposed to lots of other vinyl heavy shops, they actually have lots of used stuff in the regular bins, rather than just new vinyl. Only reason not a five star is simply because it's so small they likely don't have the size or budget to fill the selection out with tons, meaning I don't feel like I can really go there looking for something specific. Collection was pretty well curated between new imports and used - they even had a nice DVD section which is getting harder and harder to find these days (copped an Arrow release and Takeshi Kitano DVD). I dragged my friend in here because Im a sucker for good deal on records and was SO impressed by the collection of 45s they had. I found an old Death Cab For Cutie single which I wish I bought. They also had $1 record crates. I noticed that they had some video games (as well as movies, tapes, etc) and asked to see some old gameboy games. They have pure gold in that department.
