I definitely feel good about supporting up and coming businesses in local neighborhoods, especially ones like these that not only bring a positive vibe but also preserve the culture of my generation. Spin Cycle is therapy. It is disappearing era of record stores that I love so much. You don't even have to buy anything to get the therapy. Just walk in flip through a few records and know you are in a magical place. You cannot go wrong with the 1$ bin of records either. Whenever I'm on Broadway I always grab a coffee at Vivace sidewalk bar, pop into spin cycle and see what treasures might pop out. I honestly love this place. I can't walk in without spending 100 bucks before I walk out. Really great selection and super close to my home. I haven't gotten a scratched used record (yet) and so many random gems I come in to find. The only thing I wish is that they were a little nicer (: brought in a friend from out of state and cashier got a little snappy. kind of embarrassing because I only had great things to say about this place. Yes! We need more places like this! Spin Cycle appeals to my need for hard copies of my media. They offer a nice selection from a surprisingly wide variety of genres, including some sweet kung-fu and anime flicks. It's definitely worth dropping in for a *spin* around the store's $5 section. Maybe it was because we had similar tastes in music, but the guy that worked there was really cool and knowledgeable. I accidentally started browsing through his personal vinyl collection and he told me that if they didn't have it for sale he would sell me his copy. I am told no one reads or believes 5 star reviews, but I can't give anything less to these guys. Long before he had his own shop, Jason the owner was 'just a clerk' in someone else's shop,on his OWN time he tracked down a movie I wanted, and got it to me, that was quite hard to find. It took him a YEAR but he did this for me! Years later, he also found for me a VHS version of a movie that for a long time, they did not reprint - (A NEW LEAF.) His employees are really intelligent and good at finding things, too. I am fond of old obscure movies, and they are all patient with a Nerdish old cranky movie fiend like me. His pricing is more than fair, too. I hope that N*****x does not put him out of business, but as he also carries vinyl (which I don't know much about) I guess he is safe. His shop is quite small, but don't let that fool you! He has TV shows, zillions of movies, and a well organized, clean stock that jumps off the shelf and screams BUY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the perfect store for the semi-serious record collector. What I mean by that is there is enough variety to keep picky listeners interested, and there seems to be a good range of well known artists so that you never feel lost. If you are looking for a highly specific or unique artist, I recommend Wall of Sound; but if you just feel like browsing to add to your budding collection Spin Cycle fits the bill perfectly. read more
