On a recent trip in town for a work conference I happened to come here by tagging along with a fellow record collector/buyer/seller as he had it on his list to hit this spot. I am happy I did because I found some really cool 7inch singles here (see photos) to bring back home to Austin with me. Walking in to Fat Cat Records I immediately loved the vibe in here. It really feels like you are walking into a friends top-of-the-hill apartment to hang and look through their record collection in a super welcoming place. I really loved the overlook down off the street and neighborhood of N. Stone Way. You will find cassettes, CDs, 45 singles, books, and all mediums amongst new and collector's issues and selections. You definitely want to come in here and be curious because you WILL find something unique. Here is what I found and brought back: - I Got You Babe by Sonny and Cher (45 single) - Only the Lonely by Roy Orbison (45 single) -Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee (45 single) - King Tut by Steve Martin - a rare Modest Mouse 7inch (white vinyl) Pricing is excellent for what I got and everything was fantastically in good shape especially for the ones I found that are from the 1950-1960s. Many of the singles had typed out/inventory markings on them too which makes me wonder where they were before showing up to this cool record store?!?! My friend got some pretty rad and rare vinyl too! Everyone was super impressed by the selection they had here. If anyone asks me "What's the best record store in Seattle" I'll answer Fat Cat Records, every time. I used to do all my shopping online but after I found Fat Cat I would rather go in and browse in person anyway. Everybody's friendly and it feels good to walk into a legit Seattle-local shop - reminds me of being a teenager when everything wasn't so fussy. This is just a real, down-to-earth shop that cares about it's customers and has an amazing selection. I can get anything from Hip Hop to Jazz to Metal and everything in between. Plus the selection and quality they've got is the best value for money compared to other "local" shops nearby. If you miss hanging out at a neighborhood record store that doesn't feel like a start-up, this is the place to go. Local, knowledgable and helpful people with an amazing selection. When I moved back up to Seattle, I was looking for a great local record store that specifically bought and sold vintage vinyl - something that a lot of other local shops *say* they do, but usually under deliver on selection and value. But Fat Cat Records is the real deal! I stumbled into Fat Cat when I was running errands in Wallingford (easy to visit, parking is right off of Stone Way N) and was super impressed with their selection and customer service. Frank (the owner) is awesome. He took his time to make sure I found exactly what I was looking for, and even made some suggestions that I was pretty impressed by. There wasn't any sales pressure at all - just good customer service and a ton of knowledge. They had a bunch of vintage Reggae and Jazz LPs (and had some presses I couldn't find anywhere else around town or even online) and everything was priced way better than the other nearby shops. Bought 8 records and probably 20+ CDs (can you guess my age?). Frank and his crew are next level: super helpful, and they have everything you need if you're looking for used, great-condition vinyl, CDs, cassettes or even audio gear. Fat Cat Records in the previous Wallingford location has been on my vinyl radar screen since 2018. I've managed to find Record Store Day releases at Fat Cat when there's none to be found at other indie music shops. Plus always great for browsing, has friendly & knowledgeable staff, plus free stickers. Driving from Fremont to Wallingford, I noticed their signage along Stone Way N. Sure enough they relocated there in November. And big bonuses arw that they niw have a dedicated parking lot and much more room to grow. Me and The Homie stopped by on 12/16/23, during the last hour before closing time. The Homie found some vinyl gold, as did I, a cool item with The Chvrches for $4.99. Later, I find it was going for up to $50 elsewhere online. read more

Fat Cat Records is a delight to visit, offering a friendly staff and an incredible collection for all music tastes. The selection here runs the gamut from top 40 to extreme ambient weird things and experimental vinyl, with staff happy to help give recommendations or insight. Great new and used selection, with many bargains to be had. Ample parking and close to lots of coffee and places to eat , this is an absolute gem of a local record shop. read more

Smallish shop that's in what looks like an old gas station building. But it's loaded with records. I was impressed enough with the 45s that I didn't pay much attention to the albums, which may have been a mistake. I bought lots of singles and they're all over the store, starting at just $0.25 each. The main section, with the priced singles, had lots of neat stuff. Worth a visit for any digger. read more

During this time of self-quarantine I tried to throw some stimulus cash at Fat Cat Records (even though when I visit in-person they are cold AF) -- for WEEKS they kept "forgetting about me" and I had to circle back. Then I saw them post on SM pics of albums on my list -- so I told them to disregard my request (or rather continue to disregard). Next, I reached out to Jive Time Records and they responded SAME DAY (May 13), processed payment (they'll do paypal or take a card over the phone) and shipped the next day (they'll also do curbside p/up). Delivered this morning (May 15)! Take that money you are not spending on haircuts and funnel it over to Jive Time Records. Like you need an excuse to buy vinyl. Cheers to your ears! First off, the only reason 4 stars is because of the small selection. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars to be honest. Other than that, Fat Cat records is a cool little record store off the main drag in Wallingford. My sister and I went in looking for a specific genre of albums. Did I find it? Yes. I also found something during the same era of the 60' and 70's. If you are looking for used vinyl during the same decades I think you hit the spot. The shop is smaller, the selection is also smaller (not necessarily a bad thing!) They have both vinyl and CD's. Nothing too obscure, but different enough that I was able to find a country singer from the mid-70's in great condition for my mom's birthday. Kudos to having older vinyl. The person working was nice and helpful. I usually stop in during the weekdays in the early afternoon when it's pretty dead. Not busy is a good thing because you won't have to deal with people looking at the same albums. In the back area are players where you can listen to something before you purchase. The only exception is if the record is in bad shape (record cartridges and styli aren't cheap to replace) There is street parking or you could even take the bus a couple blocks away if you don't want to deal with parking. Will I come back? For sure! You never know when you need something older that other stores might not have. read more

I'm visiting family up the street for a few days and decided to stop in. Great selection for the size of the store. Plenty of great bargain bin grabs, but I was most impressed with being able to snag several records off of my been-looking-for-a-while list. Staff was super friendly, and gave me a great deal on shipping my records home so I don't have to worry abou them on a plane ride. Good store, good people. Went here opening day and my son and I found a variety of good deals and great genre depth like hip hop, electronic music and reggae that rivals the best stores in town. My only complaint is all the boxes of vinyl that have been slowly priced. That said they always seem to have interesting new stuff. I love what they do on Instagram. read more

Neat! They tell me they've only been open a few days now, but it looks like they're on their way to great things! Found several cool (and nicely priced) classic rock & prog LPs during my brief perusal today, and I'll definitely be making this place one of my regular digging spots in Seattle (hip hop fans will be especially taken with their selection of early 2000s LPs & 12" singles). Appears to be essentially valueless dead stock from Jam(?) Records which was once in Wallingford. Consisting of not rare, 70s and 80s rock, psych, folk, jazz and soul, with a smattering of indie rock titles, and a chunk of low value 90s and 2000s electronic titles. A smaller selection of 70s, 80s and 90s higher value records are also on hand, displayed on the wall. The latter are in good condition and priced at the lower end of their value. All of the above would make for a passably ok record shopping experience if it wasn't for the shop's owner incessantly barking orders at the 20something staff, while they are parked in front of computers, looking up record values on Discogs. Having just opened, maybe they'll get their act together at some future date? read more

I visited their store, and really liked what they had on offer. small collection, but it looks like they're building everyday. I found several things I wanted but had to restrain myself. Great place! I came here a few weeks ago and got some really cheap records that were in pretty decent shape (just slight damage on covers and inner sleeves). Not the most organized, but if you have the time to look through the boxes you can find some great stuff! The guys were really helpful, and were definitely knowledgable about their stock/the location of different albums. read more

Within 5 minutes of being there I found 3 semi-obscure gems that were priced -- I'll admit it -- well below what I'd be prepared to pay for them. Staff was friendly and engaging, obviously a labor of love. Very glad to have them in the neighborhood. read more

Never before, have I felt more unwelcome at a record store (and I go to a lot). Specifically, on Oct 14 in the evening- after I accidentally took a record sleeve off the wall to look at (I didn't see the small sign that said "ask for assistance"- honest mistake), this middle aged/skinny nerd clerk guy with glasses and beard becomes instantly unfriendly with me, takes the sleeve, hides it behind the counter (I guess he thought I was going to steal it?), without even asking me if I want to see the record. When I seemed confused as to what he was doing and looked at him, he sniped "What? What do you want?" I asked him to look at the record, which he brought out, with no comment, eye contact, nothing resembling any sort of customer service. I asked to see another record, same cold service- he seemed annoyed. That's when I decided to put back another record I was holding and intending to buy and left. It's unfortunate, as I was looking forward to visiting here and checking it out. But my first visit is my last. Good job, middle aged/skinny nerd clerk guy with glasses and beard- I was going to drop some dollars here and support a local business, but your crap attitude and unfriendliness cost the shop some sales. I didn't even know we had a new record store in Seattle, I only found out because I had to take a detour home one afternoon. I saw the records out front and pulled a u-turn to check it out! I didn't find tons of stuff to buy (because I already have tons of stuff, and the stuff I'm actively searching for is very obscure, especially in America), but I did find a large, varied selection of records to look through. I used to shop at Jam Records back in the day - a good 10% of my collection is probably from that shop - so knowing the sons had started their own business was a fun bit of trivia to have. I will say the records are reasonably priced and, if you have some holes in your collection, you could do a lot worse that stop into Fat Cat for some crate digging.
