I agree with David. Jing's food is good but not the greatest thing I've ever had. The lunch buffet is limited but the quality is good. Service was barely acceptable. I've done carry out for lunch and that turned out ok. Dining for diner was the best experience I've been able get out of Jings. Food was good as was the service. They were really slow that night - maybe that played into things. I am NOT happy with this delivery I just got from them. I asked for vegetable lo mein, not bok choy lo mein. It's overly peppery too! I am not sure why this place has so many good reviews. The food was just mediocre and there are so many other places in the downtown Milwaukee area that has better Chinese food. We ordered our food to go so maybe that was part of it. Started out with the won ton soup. The broth was light and flavorful. Then next were the chicken wings. The wings are breaded and very salty. I ordered the Hong Shiu chicken. There were big pieces of chicken breast, broccoli, bamboo and water chestnuts. The brown sauce had kind of a weird taste to it, almost fishy tasting. My boyfriend order the beef with broccoli. This just was not good. The beef had a weird texture, kind of gelatinous and lacked flavor. The brown sauce also lacked flavor and he had to add soy sauce and sirracha. The reason I am giving Jings two stars is due to their employees. Maybe that was a mistake, but I've been travelling for a while and wanted something good but predictable. Food was a bit bland but they obviously used good ingredients so the basic flavors were good. Just not enough seasoning. Although they could have used some scallions and other zing in the pork, my son and I devoured the pan-fried dumplings, which had a nice fried crustiness. Sauce served with the dumplings was good. Appetizer was best part of the meal. Son had mongolian beef. Fairly bland - required soy sauce - but he enjoyed it. I had Kung Pao Tofu and it was medium spicy and good but not great. Little salt necessary. As noted by previous reviewers, wait staff exceptionally friendly and very attentive. This place is incredibly authentic, clean, and friendly. There have been multiple dishes that I have gotten here that I have not found outside of actual Asia (glutonous rice is one example). The reason for my 1 star is because of food quality and accuracy. I called first to ask about the Buddha delight, whether it comes with tofu or not and the Chinese guy that talked to me told me yes. So i told him thanks and hang up. Because I want to finalize what i want first before placing the order. Then I called the 2nd time to finally place my order for pick up. So i called...and another guy picks up and told me that it does not come with tofu. Then I asked to speak with the Chinese guy there. Few moments later he came back and told me in a reluctant tone that "if it's not too far we can give you a exchange.." I was so annoyed and hungry already that I told him it's fine... Then when I finally sat down and bite into the broccoli, it was bitter.....so I look into it and it was disgustingly rotten....wtf!! C'mon!! I be nice as not to do any exchange or refund and I got slap in the face with this??? What's worst is that the rest of the vegies were old...the flavor was mediocre, and the soup have no green onions on it. I paid 9.50 for old, rotten vegies.....not f%#&$** worth it. I have long been on the search for good Chinese food. The last 3 times I have ordered Chinese food it has been terrible! So I did some research and decided that I had to give Jing's a try. SOOO happy we did. The food was delicious, and the ingredients were clearly very fresh as was evidenced by the color and crispness of the vegetables and the fact that the lobster in my dish was so fresh it was still in the shell. The food was presented very nicely instead of the usual "dumped on the plate" traditionally found at Chinese restaurants. The service was quick and the staff was attentive. I think I was here last Friday. My memory of that night is incredibly hazy. It was before my birthday celebration, I drank A LOT of whiskey and I'm pretty sure I threatened a bartender because the dude didn't remember my name. The key to Jing's is not to order the same dishes you would find at every other Chinese restaurant. The scallion pancakes and Siu Mai (shrimp dumplings) are perfect starters. The Shanghai eggplant is melt in your mouth delicious. Mapo Tofu is velvety and a bit spicy. The Chinese greens (Chinese broccoli or string beans) are a nice fresh dish to complement the heavier dishes. I hear the sole is another great dish and want to try it next time. Are the "Great" reviews on here because MKE doesn't know what good chi food is, or am I jaded by LA/NY/HK...? Let me first say, the service was fantastic and the decor/ambiance was very nice. The food was simply bland. I will say that coming back from a recent trip to Hong Kong has most likely tainted any review of a Chinese restaurant. I was never a giant fan of American-Chinese food (which isn't really chinese food) and further more, the fact that we generalize a country of 1 bil+ people in to 1 style of food is silly. When it comes to mainland Chinese food, its hit or miss and too bland. I prefer Szechwan or Shanghainese with Cantonese being my favorite. We ordered fried dumplings (too big and too much dough), kung pao (too bland) and house fried rice (the best part for sure, not too bad). Honestly, I'd probably recommend to locals, because its probably what thy are looking for, but come to an "Asian" market (e.g. LA/NY) and you'd definitely find a lot better choices. I don't get it. Everyone in my office raved about Jing's. So I went. The restaurant is freshly painted, bright, clean, and not over decorated like some Chinese restaurants. We sat down during the busy lunch time. The waiter came over and filled our water glasses and mentioned the buffet. Both me and my co-worker didn't want the buffet so we asked for menus. It took the server 10 minutes to come back with them and he didn't seem happy about having to have to take our orders. I had so much time to kill between getting the menu and placing an order that I perused the buffet. We were there on a Friday so most of the buffet items contained fish or seafood, not my favorite Chinese fare. The buffet food seemed colorless and there were no spicy scents wafting in the air. I ordered the chicken fried rice which came with nice chunks of white meat, but was not very flavorful. My co-worker ordered the beef with broccoli and that was a better choice. It was nice cuts of beef in a dark, flavorful sauce. He said it was good, but not any different than some of the other Chinese in the area. During this visit, the service was terrible. It got to the point where I got up to ask an employee if I could get more water. We were there for an extraordinary amount of time unlike those who ordered from the buffet. I would think that since most of the patrons do order the buffet, the servers would not be overwhelmed by a few people who actually request something else. Jing's is the most authentic Chinese food in Milwaukee (if you order right). My wife and I have spent 7 summers in China and have had extensive conversations in Chinese with the owner, Jing, and her husband, who cooks in the back. She's from Shanghai, is highly educated and specializes in Shanghainese dishes. We've thrown 5-7 dishes at her from other parts of China and she's pulled every one of them together. Ask Jing to pull together an authentic spread of her choosing. There's a good chance none of what you'll be given is on the menu, and it'll be the best Chinese meal you've had in your life. read more

Second time I have ordered from Jings. The food is very good but the portions are on the smaller side... comparatively at least. Also, I'm a person who likes big portions. We got the Orange Chicken and Curry Chicken, both with steamed rice. We also got an order of spring rolls. All very good, no complaints. Between two people we had a little chicken curry leftover so I guess it was filling enough. Also, this was my first time trying the chicken curry and I really liked it. I will be ordering it again. Unfortunately, our search for great Chinese food in Milwaukee continues. We ordered our first delivery from Jing's and we were not terribly impressed. I have heard good things from others and read some of the reviews but at the end of the day it was meh. It was a Fridat night so we were told delivery would take 30-45min and the guy arrived in 25 minutes so it seems the delivery is quick and reliable. We ordered the orange chicken and general tso's chicken, and honestly they looked and almost tasted the same, which was fairly bland. Ordered shrimp low mein, dumplings and spring rolls. First, of all, they provided plates, plastic-ware and napkins with was nice since the delivery was to a hotel where I was staying. It is amazing how may delivery restaurants don't to this. You need the plates because the food is so piping hot that eating it out of the containers is not an option. :-) The food stayed hot until the end. The dumplings were huge and well stuffed. They had great flavor and so did the low mein. The low mein also had a generous amount of shrimp. I liked the spring rolls but the inside was a bit starchy, which is not what you expect from a spring roll with it's flaky outside texture. Highly recommend the Soup Dumplings appetizer and Chicken & Leek entree from their traditional Shanghai menu. The well-known Chinese food items are also very good, including Crab Rangoon, Hot & Sour Soup, General Tso's Chicken, and Shrimp Kow. We are very happy that we asked our waiter for recommendations during one of our first visits! I'll be upfront, I have only been to Jing's for lunch, their buffet more specifically. There were mumblings among my friends of this place, a mythical place of great Chinese food in menu or buffet format tucked within the Marshall Building. Every time I passed or was inside the building I had no clue of this place. Finally, some coworkers took me one snowy cold day. Pure magic. Attentive service and a constant flow from the kitchen of fresh orders to pile into the buffet. While some of the food I was not really a fan of I realize that the things I did not appreciate are items that I genuinely wouldn't order regularly and it was just flavor preferences that got in the way. Since I've started work in this city about a month ago, I think I've only seen a handful of Asian people. There are Chinese people at Jing's, both workers and customers. When there are Chinese customers in a Chinese restaurant, that is a good sign. I didn't try any American-style dishes, but the two dishes I had tasted authentic. I ordered the braised pork belly and the Shanghai duck. I preferred the duck, but both dishes definitely tasted like authentic Chinese food (not Cantonese style though). Despite the small buffet, the restaurant is hopping shortly before noon. I was hoping for more buffet options, but ended up pretty happy with what was available.
