I had a very limited budget of $1,000, and I was hosting a housewarming party the next day. I knew I was in the wrong store pretty much as soon as I walked in. However, Andy Singer was very patient and walked me through my options and I walked out with a CD player, an amp, and speakers from three different manufacturers that I had never heard of before. And he managed to make it work inside my budget of $1,000. A couple of months later, I was developing audiophile tendencies. The equipment I bought was that good, even within that budget, but the CD player just wasn't doing it for me. So I boxed it back up and returned to Sound by Singer. Amazingly, Andy didn't just take the CD player back. He sold me this beautiful alternative CD player made by an obscure English firm, for which all he asked me for was $200 and the return of the original CD player. The resultant combo kept me more than happy for 20 subsequent years. The amp eventually died, and the obscure firm in Jersey that made it had gone out of business, and it was not cost-effective to replace it. I ended up replacing everything. Although it's not an option for an audiophile, so I don't really qualify, I covered my home with Sonos speakers. I still have that CD player. I never play music on it anymore, but it was built with such love and care I have not been able to bring myself to part from it. Thank you, Andy. If you were the person many of the people posting negative reviews here say about you, you would have laughed me out of your store with my budget of $1,000. But instead, you made that $1,000 go so much further than I could possibly imagine. RIP Andy, and thank you for 20 plus years of beautiful music and helping turn my first New York apartment into my home.

I brought it in and after a few days they said there was nothing wrong with it. I got it home and the drawer stuck. My first purchase from Stereo Exchange showed me the benchmark in New York high-end audio dealer…read moresupport. I've been in the audio hobby for over 27 years, so I've learned the difference between a team that actually knows their stuff and one that's just moving boxes. I am the proud new owner of Certified Authentic Pre-Owned Wilson Sabrinas in Obsidian Black. Honestly, taking the leap on Wilsons wasn't really on my radar until a credible, certified pair popped up at a reputable regional dealer. That sense of local security and support is the only reason I felt comfortable taking my system to the next level. Right from the first message, the team was straight-up with me. They walked me through exactly what Wilson's Certified Authentic program entails, the Certification work done on the speakers, the warranty, and the realistic logistics. No hard sell, no runaround, and no question left unanswered. That's the kind of foresight you get from decades of real experience. What really set this apart was the installation. Their Certified installer Mike came out to do the Wilson Audio Setup Procedure (WASP). The guy is a total pro - super patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and just a great person to work with. He added a ton of value to the whole experience. My space is far from a showroom. It's a tight studio apartment, with a corner-loaded left channel, a workstation that isn't moving anywhere; essentially a "lab in motion" for my audio hobby. Mike didn't blink. He worked around the real-world constraints and went through the WASP methodically. Everything was done ear-first and with serious precision. Watching him dial it in showed me exactly why Wilson insists on this setup process; it's not just marketing fluff, it's real substance. The Sabrinas sound phenomenal, and they absolutely live up to their reputation. The speakers and set-up rival my former reference Levinson and Magnepan system. Once you graduate into equipment that has serious value, it's 100% about trust. You have to trust the product, the transaction, and the follow-through. Stereo Exchange nailed all three. If you're serious about bringing your experience to the next level, Stereo Exchange is the place.

I recommend Dave's Audio Intellect highly. Selecting among the broad range of high-end stereo…read moreequipment can daunting because of confusing terminology, cost and shear number of offering. Dave was knowledgeable, knew how to communicate and patient. Fair in pricing, too. These traits haven't always been together in my shopping, so I was pleased to run into him.

I can't say enough good things about Dave Lalin and Audio Intellect. I first came upon his company…read morewhen I was in the market for new speakers and did a search for dealers of KEF LS50 Meta speakers. I was encouraged by the many positive reviews I read, and a huge bonus for me: Audio Intellect is right in my neighborhood. Upon my initial phone call, Dave spent a lot of time listening to what I was looking for, what I already had, why I was interested in KEF LS50 Meta speakers, etc. Based on our conversation, he recommended different speakers he thought would provide the listening experience I was looking for and we set up an appointment for me to visit his home studio. The willingness to spend time with me continued when I went to audition speakers; we listened for hours. Once I decided upon the speakers I thought I wanted, Dave and his son came to my house to set them up so I could demo them with my own equipment, in my own space. Through no fault of Dave's, there was an incompatibility issue between the speakers and my pre-amp. This took a couple weeks to diagnose, and throughout the investigating, trial and error, and emails to the designer of the speakers, Dave was responsive and helpful in determining the problem (again, nothing to do with the equipment I was purchasing from him). In fact, he immediately loaned me an amp and pre-amp so I could listen to music while we were figuring out what the issue was with my equipment. Fast forward a few weeks: I decided to sell my amp and pre-amp and purchase an integrated tube amp instead. Having had such a positive experience with Dave, I bought my Synthesis Roma 753 ac amp through him as well. From the initial setup with the speakers, to multiple visits while trying to diagnose the cause of the pre-amp issue, to the delivery and set up of the new amp, Dave was always responsive, coming to my house, loaning me equipment, etc. Not everyone is lucky enough to have such a knowledgeable audio dealer living and working a few blocks away; if Jersey City, NJ is anywhere in your range for audio shopping, do yourself a favor and contact Dave Lalin at Audio Intellect. -Tom Ciocco

I even mentioned what I thought the problem was and that I preferred a professional to handle it. After leaving work early and lugging a 35 lb sub about an 8 minute walk to the shop, the person I spoke with asked what was wrong, then basically told me I should just do it myself. He then said he was uncomfortable having his team take it apart and declined the job. This is exactly the kind of thing that should have been communicated over the phone so I didn't waste the time and effort bringing it in. On the positive side, he seemed honest and didn't try to pretend they had skills or comfort level they didn't. He also recommended another shop in Chinatown that "will fix anything," although I checked their reviews and decided not to go that route. In the end I repaired the sub myself successfully. Overall, I appreciate the honesty, but I was frustrated by the lack of clear communication up front that led to an unnecessary trip with a heavy piece of equipment.
