Cozy little restaurant right off the Red Line (between Bryn Mawr and Berwyn). Service was impeccable and the inside very clean. The only downside was that it was a little warm and humid inside to my liking, but I'm a fan of freezing my bum off while I eat a piping hot bowl of kao soi haha. Moo ping: grilled pork on skewers. They were sweet and sticky and paired well with their spicy dipping sauce! Thai crepes (khanom bueng): if you ever had Vietnamese banh xeo then you'd be familiar with this appetizer. If not, then I'll try my best to describe it lol. The crepe part is light, flaky, and crispy; thinner than your average crepe. It's stuffed with shrimp and bean sprouts and it's slightly sweet. It's served with cucumber salad that you pour on top of your bite; its a sweet and sour vinegar dressing with cucumbers and red onions in it -- goes well with the sweetness of the crepe filling. Lettuce, basil, and mint come on the side and you can eat your crepe with it (stuff a lettuce leaf with your bite or eat separately, you choose!), but it's the perfectly light appetizer to try on a hot day. My dad and I had the kao soi which I heard was their signature dish. It's ramen noodles in a bowl of curry with crunchy fried noodles on top and cilantro. It's not too spicy unless you ask for spice; but I think it's best to get a little bit of spice with it and ask for more limes as it's a little flavorless with the one tiny lime slice that comes with it. My boyfriend ordered the pad see iew which was a hit all across the table! The noodles were fresh and not doughy and they used vinegar to stir fry the noodles in sweet soy sauce -- the way Thai people eat it back home! It was super tasty and hard to stop eating. The downside was that the broccoli which was super fresh and not boiled was a little too bitter to eat. My boyfriend's younger brother got the crab fried rice that came with a spicy lime sauce to pour on it. It was super tasty and authentic. Not much to say about this dish since its name is self-explanatory! We also got an order of mango with sticky rice which was beyond better than what I could get at home in KC! They didn't skimp out on mangoes as we got literally the whole mango that was sweet and plump. The sticky rice was not too sweet and just a hint of saltiness that perfectly complements the sweetness of the mangoes. The rice came topped with crispy mung beans that added another dimension to the dish: texture. The Thai tea was also nice and refreshing! Not too sweet and comes in a talllll cold glass, perfect for quenching your thirst on a hot summer day like when we went. I highly recommend this restaurant! It's super convenient if you're on the train heading to Wrigley field or just in the area. Most dishes had highlights; the fried noodles in the pad see ewe were salty and almost bacon-y, the pineapple curry sauce struck the right balance between tangy and sweet, and the larb had a curious kick. All I can say is this is my top three Thai restaurants ever. (The other two are on the same block *herb* and *immmmm* a few blocks away in argyle). Boat noodles. Girl. You must. I'd forgotten how good this place is.....haven't been in a couple years. More upscale than your typical Thai joint....a few bucks more but totally worth it. The BYOB is a great attribute. The crispy chive dumplings are the best in the city and the dipping sauce is fab. I had the ginger chicken which was great. Friend had the Khao Soi which had a delicious sauce, however missed the mark by having soft flat type egg noodles immersed in the sauce instead of the more delectible crispy ones poking out of the top this dish typically has (even in their photos on yelp) so maybe they were out that night. Surprisingly very disappointing for one of their "signature" dishes. The Tom Yum soup was excellent, brimming with fresh veggies you simply don't get at other Thai places. Thai food is one of my favorite types of cuisines. I could eat it multiple times a week. But prior to Jin Thai, I hadn't been to a Thai place that was more than good. Jin Thai was excellent. Jin Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Chicago. It is certainly up there for the best Thai food I have had in Chicago and it is a wonderful haven for vegetarians and pescatarians. Jin Thai has very unique Thai dishes that you do not see at most Thai restaurants. It has a quiet, cozy ambience that is relaxing and chill. The service is decent and they give you your space. It's also BYOB so you can bring in some nice wine. I started with a ginger drink and it was fresh and perfect for a cold, rainy fall day. It had ginger and hot water with fresh cinnamon. No caffeine and sugar, so it was a healthy way to start the meal. I'd like to see ginger drinks on more menus in Chicago! My friend and I started out with the Thai crepes and while it usually has shrimp in it, we had it without the shrimp and just the tofu. Wow, the tofu was prepared so well. It was made in a way that I haven't seen before. It was seasoned and minced into the crepe with some vegetables. The crepe was hearty and crispy. It came with a light, zesty cucumber salad that complemented the crepe very well. It reminds me of a Hungarian cucumber salad that I grew up eating. It had a nice, refreshing cold flavor in contrast to the warm, deep flavors of the crepe. I definitely would get this appetizer again. For my entree I got the Kao Soy. It was my first time having it and it was amazing!!! The curry sauce was hearty and tasty. The tofu was firm and there was a generous portion of it. The noodles were crispy and wonderful. I liked that some noodles were crispy on top while some were soaked in the coconut milk. All of the flavors blended very well together!. It was a perfect healthy dish for a cold, rainy day. Jin Thai is a step above most neighborhood Thai restaurants but their prices and on par with others. I've enjoyed dine-in as well as carry out and they are equally good. The ingredients are always high quality and fresh. I generally order Shrimp dishes and I can confirm that their shrimp tastes fresh and is not overcooked which is often a problem at Thai restaurants. Adore this place. The Thai food is all a cut above. The owners are lovely people who have had 3 other restaurants and it shows. Each dish is finessed a bit more than the standard shops in town. One of my favorite is khao soi . . . the perfect balance of chicken with yellow curry, red chili, pickled cabbage accent and cut shallots, with crunchy and soft chewy noodles. Love it! Just like I'd have it on the Thai border with Myanmar. The food is very good and fresh. It has a lot of spice, so if you're faint of heart, let them know and they'll ease up on the spice. The ambiance is congenial and the service is good. Arrive a half hour prior to closing, or you may not be seated. My only complaint is the corkage fee. Y'all. Let me tell you about my friend, Jin Thai. They make an absolutely delicious Green Curry! (Its spicy, so be warned). I order from here all the time too: their food is consistent. Their portions are reasonable, meaning I can eat and have leftovers. But my favorite part: when you ask for "no meat" they....add vegetables?!?! Its a blessing! Veggies abound. Pad Thai is great too. Had to walk out and leave this place because we sat there, received no menus or water after 5 min, but a white couple walked in and was served immediately. We left out after another several minutes of waiting and still not getting water. I walked out and came back to speak to the owner to inform why I left. When I spoke to him in a very polite way, he attempted to talk over me and stated he saw that I did not have water & menus when he came back and saw that we left. This was a lie because I looked at him before we left and while we got up to walk out I looked at him and shook my head. I hate pulling the race card, but they way we was treated and the way he reacted gives me no choice. Heard some great things about the food and was very happy to try but I refuse to give my hard earned money to business who refuse to appreciate my business. Authentic Thai cuisine with great customer service & BYOB - trifecta of deliciousness. I love that their menu has offerings that I don't normally see at "Americanized" Thai establishments. I've been here twice - the first time when they had just opened and the second time just recently. I feel that their food has gotten much better! We tried their Taro appetizer and angel wings. The taro was out of this world. When we ordered it, the waitress was like "YES!" - like so glad that people were trying something different and it was also one of her favorite dishes. It didn't disappoint! The angel wings were also really good, with a nice sweet/spicy dipping sauce. The entrees are all beautifully presented and I think it would be difficult to order something that wasn't tasty. I had initially ordered one of the noodle soups, but they were sold out. Favorite Thai food (within walking distance to my apartment)... I tend to judge Thai restaurants on their Green Curry (without bamboo shoots... gross), and Jin Thai does not disappoint. It's so flavorful, and worth the price. Between Jin, and the other Thai joint (Ben's), just come to Jin if you want Thai food at a better quality (and a little bit bigger price) than Ben's. My husband and I came here for a late dinner. It was a cold winter night so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We were promptly seated. The place is dimly lit so it's good if you are planing a romantic evening that won't break the bank. They take credit card- VISA/MASTERCARD. I ordered the Garlic Shrimp and it was good and a good sized portion. My other half got the Thai Roasted Chicken which smelled divine. Overall, we were satisfied with the food. Stumbled upon this place en route to another place, however I knew that parking would be a little more difficult at our first pick. We pulled over and looked over the menu and decided that there were options that we both liked, and the prices seemed reasonable too. You'll find Jin Thai on the small and cozy side, it's a cute place. But if you're not into waiting do plan lunch or an earlier dinner. We were there about 3p.m. and it was perfect. Service was fast and friendly, however if you want something as an appetizer you may want to clarify it as my pot stickers and Pad Thai came up at the same time, however to be fair the Pad Thai is listed under noodles and not entrees, so I can see where this could happen. I did find my Pad Thai a little sweet, but still very good. I had it with tofu, I appreciated that they used a very firm tofu instead of the spongy stuff, as this is your protein for the meal. Ask for some chili oil on the side if you want to give it a little spice/heat, I liked it on the tofu too in addition to my vegetable pot stickers. Those also were very tasty, as the dough was thin and delicate, dipping it in the soy was the perfect complement. I really enjoyed my meal and plan on returning, they had a good selection of soups and other appetizers or entrees to choose from. I also like that you can choose to do many of the items with just veggies or add a protein, which could be tofu, chicken, etc. By the way speaking of parking, which started all this, there is metered on Broadway, but I recommend looking on Catalpa (one way going west) I found a spot there, and nothing beats free. Was up north in Chicago and was craving Thai food. Checked out Jin Thai in Edgewater. It's a small cozy restaurant inside very clean. Hard to find larger tables, more suited for groups of 2-4. Obviously they will combine some tables for bigger groups but it's more cozy and intimate. Now onto the food. Got the Pork Pad See Ewe and the Panang Curry. No complaints here with my Thai food staples. The pad see ewe was solid. Came out really quick to my liking which turned me off. Ordered the pad see ewe and literally came out in 2 minutes. Talk about paying $13 for fast food Thai food? Huge turn off here. Makes me question if the food is fresh or if they cooked to much on a previous dish and just decided to put it on my plate. Huge deduction here on stars but the dish was still solid. By the way, charging 10.95 for pad see ewe plus $2 for pork is a tragedy for the customers and a huge win for the restaurant. Talk about profit margin. My favorite dish was the Panang Curry. It had the perfect balance. It wasn't greasy, it wasn't sweet, it wasn't spicy, it was just perfect. The curry broth was absolutely fantastic. The chicken however was a bit chewy but the perfectly cooked curry broth made up for it. Highly recommend getting this dish. I wanted to try something different in the neighborhood, so I stepped away from my usual Thai restaurant to try Jin Thai. I ordered the Basil Chicken, my friend orders the Tom Yum Fried Rice. The flavor was okay on both dishes, but it felt like they were cutting corners a bit, filling dishes with veggies and less meat. Portions were good. Some of the best Thai food in the city of Chicago, right in my beloved Edgewater neighborhood! As many reviews have noted, Jin Thai serves quality Thai food with fun spins on the favorite Thai classics. They also do a daily lunch special, with a selection from a few different appetizers and a noodle dish. Some of my favorites include the shrimp rolls, chicken pad thai, beef pad see ewe, and all of the curries! Not to mention, Jin is still one of the few BYOB restaurants in the neighborhood, with only a 2 dollar/person corkage fee (what a steal compared to other crazy huge corkage fees I have run into in this city). I usually get take out, but I love the idea of dining in with my own preferred bottle of wine. I dined here last night with a friend (she lives down the street but had never been here before - - I live in LA), and it was a revelation. The flavors, the textures - - they were all surprisingly delicious. Unexpectedly delicious. As we bit into our food, our eyes kept locking in tasty delight. All smiles. We kept saying, "This is so good I can hardly believe it." We started, almost offhandedly, with crab Rangoon, which we've both enjoyed at many different places. The pieces were good size and cooked properly with dark brown on the edges. The filling was light and not just cream-cheesy-- the other flavors popped, too. And the sauce had an extra bite to it that we both really enjoyed. Next up was the vegetable fried rice (no meat in ours). Large perfectly cooked pieces of vegetables (I don't like broccoli if it's over-cooked for even a moment) and the seasoning was perfect--neither of us even thought of soy sauce or anything else. Then my friend had cashew chicken, and I had salmon with tamarind sauce. Again, both surprisingly unexpectedly delicious. Note that I expected the food to be somewhere on the spectrum of delicious because I love Thai food, but every dish had extra little touches that enhanced the experience. Finally, although we were stuffed, I thought to myself that I needed to see what their mango sticky rice was like. This was the best mango sticky rice I have ever had in my life, and this dish is one of my favorite things to order when it is available. It was elevated in a way I've never seen before. The flavor of the rice was unique and mouth watering. A plug for the wonderful service -- very attentive and friendly. As we expressed our delight, the head chef came over to greet us. Last we both found the decor to be stylish, comfortable, and warm. Kind of minimalist, but all the different touches -- from the color scheme to the lamp shapes to the nice touch of putting wallpaper on the ceiling -- just made us very happy to be there.
