Thai night Friday is what was on tonight's dinner agenda. I decided to give it a go! Weird customer service, weird interaction at first when we arrived for dinner but whatever as long as the food is good and you can get it together. Food was good! Ordered chicken satay, chicken pad thai and beef panang curry. Best panang curry I have had in the city. Hands down. Food was popping hot, fresh, tasty as ever. I can overlook the weird initial interaction although first impressions are everything but the food was very yummy. They also make a delicious Thai tea that taste like caramel on the rocks. We've only ordered in so far and the food is fantastic. Each dish is packed with flavors and textures. Delivery also arrived extremely fast. We ordered: Panang Curry with tofu - Our favorite dish so far. Deep layered flavors, sweet and spicy with a silky addictive texture. Pad Kee-Mao - Bouncy chewy noodles stir fried with the random crispy edge. The noodles are coated in a rich dark sauce. Stir Fried Bamboo Shoot with Chicken and Spicy Curry Sauce - The bamboo shoots are the highlight of the dish offering a nice crunchy contrast to the soft luscious chicken. My only caveat to our meal is you gotta be able to handle spice, I asked for a dish to be "Not spicy" and it seems that's not gonna happen. I loved every bite of the meal but I suffered some serious post meal spice cramps. read more

The recent reviews almost lured me away, but my wife still wanted to try it out. I did an online order for pickup and the food was ready before the promised time. The staff he was very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed before I left. We ordered their Chicken Satay, my wife ordered her favorite Pad See-Ew with beef and I ordered their Pad Kee-Mao with beef as well. I also put in the comments to make sure it was extra spicy. And extra spicy it was indeed. The chicken satay was very delicious. The chicken was marinated and cooked perfectly and went perfect with the amazing peanut sauce. Both noodle dishes were delicious. Perhaps just a little too much bean sprouts on my Pad Kee Mao, but otherwise a perfectly executed dish. If they're going for some crunch texture in this dish, I would have preferred carrots and bell peppers. But will definitely be returning. read more

Good food at a reasonable price and impeccably clean, laid back surroundings. Okay service. I got the papaya salad, which was very fresh tasting with good texture, and the Tom Kha Tofu. Both were well seasoned and full of flavor. I appreciated that the tofu wasn't the prefried kind many restaurants use. It tasted fresh and soft. They definitely don't skimp on spice (my nose was running). I do think the Tom Kha has too much lime juice and fish sauce. I love Thai food and I know it's strong. But this Tom Kha should be milder. It's inedible without rice. I'd definitely return to try their noodles and curries, though, because their food is not lacking flavor. read more

Gross, while I was eating, I could see the dirty mop and broom. I asked the server if she could tuck it in or move it, and she said I'm a terrible customer, I should just leave. I had a date, it was very awkward, we stayed, but then she came by and threw the check at us. I have never had such a weirdly confrontational experience (maybe I am lucky I haven't had too many bad restaurant experiences). Then she started cleaning the table next to us and was throwing food on the floor. I couldn't eat anything; I just ate afterwards in another restaurant. What a terrible experience. We came here to have a night out for some fresh Thai food. It was pick up only that day so we just went ahead and took the food home instead, which wasn't that big of a deal to us. Came here since it was so close to the rock climbing gym I was at. Saw it had some rave reviews and I was pretty excited since I'm a fiend for Thai food. Unfortunately, left a bit disappointed. Ordered the chicken pad thai which came out to around $15 after tax and "convenience / service fees" from ordering online. Order was ready for me by the time I got there. The flavors were okay, but I really felt like the noodles were over cooked and lacking any bounciness to them. Maybe it was just sitting too long? I picked it up right around when the pick-up time stated and ate it about five minutes later, so not really sure. Decent amount of chicken though! Portion-wise I felt like it was a bit small for a $15 order. Maybe it was just a bad batch? Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back here again to try something else. Maybe the sit-down experience would be better. The space itself looks nice and good for a casual weeknight lunch/dinner spot. Their fried fish dish looks intriguing. But there's so many good Thai restaurants in the area that are on my list to checkout that I won't be rushing back here anytime soon. read more

I recently came here to meet a friend for a weeknight dinner. It was an earlier dinner at 5:30pm and we were the first ones to dine-in there, but people slowly started to file closer to 6/6:30pm. The food here is absolutely delicious and so fresh and affordable. Between the two of us, we shared 3 dishes and each had an entree to take home for leftovers. This is what we ordered: + Beef Salad + In-On Thai Spicy Fish + Green Curry with Chicken The food came out fairly quickly but everything was made to order. The dishes were fairly priced (approx $15/each), even for fish, and the flavors were punchy and aromatic. The fish dish surprised me in the best way. My friend wanted to try it (as a self-acclaimed "not usually one to order fish" person) but it was delectable. The fish was fried crispy without breading, and tossed in this sauce that could make you pucker with the tang and lime juice, and spice. The sauce had sliced green apples and bits of sliced lime (!!!) and tamarind and lemongrass and cilantro... it's a flavor explosion. I could eat the sauce itself with plain white rice and it would be amazing. Full disclosure: I THINK it was the "In-On Spicy Fish" dish but there were two fish dishes on their chef specials. The other one was "Fish With 3 Flavors Spicy Sauce; I'm not remembering which one it was exactly. We also got the green curry with chicken. You could choose your protein option including: vegetables, tofu, beef, chicken, or shrimp. I appreciated that they had many options as the 'protein', especially those who would prefer to be meat-free or plant based. The curry was rich, coconutty, and fragrant. The portion was generous as well, and it was served with the little thai eggplants. The beef salad was also fresh and delicious. It was a perfect companion to the curry and the fish to clean our palates. I was debating between the beef salad and the papaya salad, so next time I'll have to try their other salad. I will be back! Carry out, eat-in or delivery - we love In-On Thai. They have the traditional Thai entrees - but you really have to try their chef's specialties. Quite a few fish dishes - the Spicy Fish with young Pepper and egg plants is a favorite. I love to order Shrimp with Tamarind sauce for carry out so I can add some steamed broccoli. We always order the pickled vegetables - a nice refreshing addition to any meal. We have enjoyed the Green Curry, Panang Curry, the Keang-Pa Curry and the Crispy Tofu with curry sauce and kafir leaves- all delicious. The one dish I didn't care for was the Secret Fried Rice with BBQ Pork - was a little dry for my taste. Everything else is delicious. Like many Thai places, you can ask for your spiciness level on a scale of 1 to 5. Here at In-On Thai - level 5 is quite spicy. Rick sticks with a level 4 for his dishes while I am quite content with the flavors in level 3. If you like spicy - they deliver. Inn on Thai is an Uptown gem! This mom-and-pop spot is as authentic and down-home as it gets. The food is absolutely amazing -- every dish tastes fresh, flavorful, and true to its Thai roots. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and you can feel the care that goes into everything they serve. You have to try it if you're in the neighborhood. This restaurant is a great takeout place, but they do offer in restaurant service. We set a dinner reservation for 7 PM.. showed up on time with BYOB bottles started to order appetizers and were told there is no time for that...because we close at eight. They basically took our order and couldn't wait to get us out of the store front. It was an awful experience, meeting up with friends that we haven't seen for a while and being rushed to finish up our food and exit the restaurant. If they can't provide proper eat in service, they should just become a takeout restaurant.. however I doubt that I would o even go back there for takeout anymore, even though the food is delicious due to our terrible experience this evening. read more

This has been our go-to Thai place this year! Our favorites are the green curry fried rice (+ shrimp for an extra $2.50), and the Panang curry with a generous helping of steaming white rice. The flavors are good, authentic, and the quality is consistent order after order. We made a reservation here at 7pm on Thursday night. There was 9 of us. First you have to be buzzed into the resturant and they do not do it timely. I was finally buzzed in. Then another one of our party came to door and buzzed but the employee I guess did not hear it so I opened the door for her. With in seconds the worker comes up to me to tell me not to do that. In my opinion was very rude about. Then the employee tells us they close at 8pm. I took that to mean we needed to order ASAP. I thought this was completely inappropriate. The employee that dealt with us the whole time was rude and very unfriendly. For thai food it is the most bland I have ever had and I asked for my to have extra spice and comes with none. I have eaten many times and always think the same employee is rude and food is always bland. The people I go with pick it but this experince is finally it for me and the others now agree. I strongly suggest you think hard before going here because there is just nothing good about the staff or food. For thai food is very over priced. read more

Coming here for the first time yesterday was a very disappointing experience, considering some of the rave reviews, which not only touted the food, but the so-called "super friendly and kind owners!" I was horrified at the unprofessional server having brought a good friend to try this place based on the high reviews; I was appalled at how rude this server was. I totally agree with Todd, who wrote a past review, calling this, the "worst Customer Service" as well as Anastacia who said that they had "rude and terrible service." I don't care if she was the only one who was out on the floor and the only encounter we had with anyone. When we entered, they had no customers so we were the first table and I had a bad feeling when she immediately pushed us to sit at this small table, where my friend would be staring into the sun, but then when we asked for some input on the menu since we were trying to find dishes, that would not be so spicy, she literally glared at us and said that every dish is spicy and that this is Thai food. My friend immediately said that she never Encountered such a rude waitperson. So not only did she not help us understand what some of the dishes were she seemed so impatient with us like she had so many other things to do when we were the only table that was in the restaurant. Now if the food made up for the terrible service, maybe I would be a little bit more Forgiving, but frankly given the two appetizers we ordered and the three entrées, none of these dishes were what I would call up to standard. Having traveled to Thailand, as well as eating at a considerable number of some of the City's best restaurants, I do have some familiarity with Thai cuisine. The chicken satay, which is very common was not on skewers, but already sliced which is unusual and it was very dry so even the peanut sauce could not make up for it. The fried taro appetizer was just 4 thin pieces of taro was also subpar. We ordered three entrées. One was chicken and garlic sauce. It was OK but nothing special. We had asked this waitress for some input on the fish dishes, and she finally mentioned that the only option that would not be so spicy was fish in some special sauce. The small plate of fish did have some heat but the way it was prepared and coated was a little heavy for what we would've preferred as well as for $18. We thought it was a very small portion. Finally, we ordered Pad Thai and it was not the best, but at least more edible but for $13 it was not any bargain by any means. Overall, the last straw was after we had already close to paying our bill she then came over to curtly tell us that we needed to pack up and leave soon since she needed to set up a table, for this party of three that just walked in. I was a little incredulous, since there were other empty tables around, but that she needed our table which was next to two tables that were already occupied was the final interaction that I could tolerate with her telling my friend I don't think I'll ever come back here. Having owned and managed a family restaurant perhaps I have exceedingly high standards for what good customer service represents but even so, I really think this place does not deserve your business, because based on my encounter, they treated people very poorly, especially people who were there for the first time. We were willing to spend money and just have a nice experience based on their reviews on Yelp and elsewhere but I would never return to such a place or recommend this restaurant at all. If our waitress was the owner, then I suggest you get it together and understand that you can't operate a business and treat your customers so poorly. Hopefully if the owners ever read this, if our server was hired as your waitress, maybe you need to have a serious talk with her because she's doing your business a lot of harm. This is one of the few negative reviews I've written, but I felt compelled to warn people given the average good reviews posted here. Moved into this neighborhood recently, and have been on the hunt to find my "go-to" spots that are within walking distance. Between this Thai restaurant and Imm Rice & Beyond just up Broadway, I think they are both excellent options. The pricing at this place seems slightly better and I really enjoyed my pad kee mao with beef plate. I asked for spicy and while it could have been slightly spicier, I did enjoy it and it was probably the right amount of spice, otherwise I would've been sweating a little more. I still have not found anything as good as my favorite Thai place in California since moving here, but I think giving the proximity to my condo, this will be my new go-to place. Another amazing meal. BBQ pork pad thai is a meat lovers turn for the classic noodle dish. Chicken green curry had homemade green curry that was spicy and delicious. Fish cake appetizer had a small spicy touch that really brought the dish to life accompanied by a cucumber salad. Fish with young green pepper (as in green peppercorns) was also fantastic. We ordered In-On Thai Spicy Secret Fried Rice with BBQ Pork, Pad Thai, Green Curry, and Thai Iced Tea for takeout. Overall, I thought everything was tasty and had good flavor but generally on the sweeter side (aside from the curry). My favorite was probably the fried rice, but it wasn't spicy. The green curry had really good flavor and used actual Thai eggplant (instead of regular purple eggplant) but was SUPER spicy, so I'd recommend asking for less spice! Was volunteering at the Farmer's market today across the street from In-On-Thai. I've heard nothing but good things about the restaurant and after meeting the owner, Don-so nice and full of energy, I felt it was only appropriate to try out their food after my shift! The restaurant was comfortable, homey and clean. It's a place I would feel comfortable eating by myself or with a group of friends or family! I had the spicy fish curry with rice and a Thai iced tea. I love spicy food so it sounded very promising. The food came out quick and hot. The fish was full of flavor-spicy, tangy and also crunchy, pretty large portion as well! I was craving Thai food and usually go to Siam Noodle, but I always pass In-On Thai on the way home and thought I would try it someday. Siam Noodle was closed and I was walking so I walked over to In-On Thai to give them a try. They definitely have the best curry in my opinion compared to Siam and Immm, it's a little thicker and more flavorful. The basil pork was great as well and the quick pickled veggies too. Overall very home style flavored. I will definitely give their noodles a try another time, but definitely get the curry here if you like Thai curry. read more

Back in the day, when I was still in "The Grind," I used to go to Thailand four times a year to place orders. I grew an enthusiastic love for Thai culture and food. After all of these years, I still have an affinity for the tastes, smells, and spiciness of this cuisine. Most Thai restaurants here in the States have a cookie cutter depiction on how the food should look and taste. Now, along comes In-On Thai food, located in the Uptown section of Chicago, and very simply deviates and tweaks what you thought Thai food was. Their menu reads like the template I'm used to seeing in most Thai restaurants, but, when the food starts coming out, you get the feeling that this meal is going to be a game changer; and believe me, it was. Our: * Mee-Krob - Crispy vermicelli noodle tossed in sweet and sour tamarind sauce and tofu / the sweet & sour touch was very different and good * Shrimp with 3 Flavors - Spicy Sauce Crispy Shrimp cooked with homemade 3 flavors spicy sauce / the best rendition of Thai shrimp I've had * Pad Thai - Stir fried vermicelli noodle with pad Thai sauce, bean sprout, green onion, peanuts with BBQ pork / the BBQ was a great twist * Hot Wok Mixed Vegetable - Stir fried clear noodle, pork, squid, shrimp with mixed vegetable and sesame brown sauce served in hot plate / well done In-On None of the above dishes even slightly resembled what I'm familiar with. The differences were flagrant, but in a good way. Anytime food surprises you, it's a plus. In-Out Thai was original, evolved, and definitely not straight-forward. This is my favorite take out Thai place in the city. The food is so good and as leftovers it's even better. The portion sizes are big and everything is reasonably priced. We got the fried rice, crab Rangoon, pad Thai and pad see ew to share. They were all great but I especially liked the pad Thai and crab Rangoon . I would go here more often but I think we are just outside the delivery radius. From what I could see they had a small dining room and the space was incredibly neat and clean. There is plenty of parking right out front so you can easily park and run inside for the pickup. I will say the time estimate they give on the website is way too fast/not accurate. I would give them extra time if you are placing a larger order on a weekend. read more

Very reasonably priced (Around $15 which seems standard these days), one of the best Thai places I've had in chicago. Will look forward to trying more of their dishes, even if it is a bit of a drive for me. I got my curry medium spicy, wasn't too hot for my taste. I'm Thai so I know which Thai restaurant offers good authentic Thai food. In-On is one of my two favorite Thai restaurants i always go to in Chicago. Food is super fresh and full of flavor of all different kinds of spices they using. Taro is crispy and goes very well with peanut sweet and sour sauce. MeeKrob is perfect. I can feel fresh grated lime in very bites. LOVE it. After I eat well prepared food, I feel healthy. All staff wear mask all time and wash their hands very frequently. I think this is the best Thai food in Chicago. The flavor of each dish is clean, distinctive, and authentic. They use more fresh herbs than I'm accustomed to seeing in Thai food. Their Tom Yum soup is the best I've ever had. I've eaten at all of Chicago's great Thai restaurants, including one that's three times the price, and In-On Thai tops them all. The owners are very kind. The handsome young husband (late 30s or early 40s) is the chef and his gracious wife runs the front of house and makes the soups. The chef came out and talked with us, and he said he learned the recipes from his mother and that they make everything, including the curries from scratch. read more
