I've been coming to this location ever since they opened and it's still one of my top places even with the changes/inconsistencies since I love their Banchan. My favorite (always get) is the tofu soup with the beef, extra spicy, add egg. The extra spicy is not spicy at all and the meat is usually very tender and good quality- however, this time it felt like the meat has changed to a way, way cheaper cut. The LA galbi is still consistent and delicious, however the onions are just steamed and not cooked down like they use to be. The dumplings are not the same anymore- when they first opened, the dumplings were SO good, now they seem to be frozen ones so I won't be ordering these anymore. I've tried just about everything on the menu and it just depends on who's making it that day as it's all over the place. However with that said, their kimchi and onion Banchan are always the same and I love those so much that I am willing to overlook the inconsistencies. Service is always nice and efficient, and the space is clean. read more

I've eaten here before and always enjoyed the food, but today was an even better experience. The staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, checking in frequently and being very kind throughout my meal. As always, the food was excellent! I ordered the Garlic Soy Chicken, Bulgogi, and Katsu Cheese Curry, and they were all amazing. The Garlic Soy Chicken was especially tender and juicy--it literally melted in my mouth. The Katsu Cheese Curry was fantastic as well, with a flavor that's comparable to the best Japanese curry restaurants. I can't recommend these dishes enough. The side dishes complement the main dishes a lot. I'll definitely be returning! read more

I come here a lot and I love the food. The service is great. All of the servers are kind, respectful and nice people. When I first came to California, as a big Korean Food lover I had very hard time finding the best place. Jin Cook was the best place I have ever been and I visit pretty often. The skinny: Quick, attentive service Excellent food Good for talking The lengthy: Down in LA for ShepCon (maybe MacArthur's last ride), getting dinner with church leaders. Right after 6pm we arrived and were greeted and seated straight away. The restaurant is mostly lit over the guest tables, giving it a cavern-like feel. I liked it but it could also feel a little dim and thus harder on the eyes. No kids accompanying me this time but there was an abundance of high chairs available- dark wood, standard strap. The men's bathroom was very clean. I ordered the hot stone bibimbap with bulgogi. Everyone else ordered pork or beef soup. We ordered a seafood pancake and a sou-vide garlic pork to share. Hot stone bibimbap: delicious, tons of food, very filling with the meat Seafood pancake: good amount of seafood, good basic sauce Sou vide garlic pork: garlic paste was amazing- sweet and garlic-tang-y, good with rice Soups: i did not hear any complaints from the beef soup crowd, one pork soup-er said it was a little bland even after adding the shrimp and gochujang paste Overall, a delicious meal. I'm dedicating my first 2025 post to Jin Cook. This place was extremely delicious! I've been craving for Korean food and noticed Jin Cook has a new chain opened in the Valley near Porter Ranch area. Maybe I'm mentally preparing for my trip to Korea! The food not only looks fantastic in the photos, but they taste amazing in real life! It's located in a typically Valley's strip mall with plenty of parking spaces. The restaurant's atmosphere is very warm/cozy and traditionally decorated. The food was so good. Portions were huge with reasonable prices! We ordered 1/2 of the Kal Guk and chicken curry and thought there was not enough food so I ordered a beef bone soup... I was so wrong lol. The curry hot stone plate is larger than the size of my face! Everything tasted like heaven and the free sides were also great! Staffs were very attentive and food was served relatively fast considering they have lots of customers. Highly recommend this place if you have not been here! First time here for 2 out of 3 of us. We wanted to try a little bit of everything so we tried Garlic Suyuk, Mushroom Japchae and Seafood pancake. Everything was delicious. The sous vide pork belly was okay but the garlic sauce and samjang sauce really make it. Mushroom Japchae was super flavorful. Noodles had a nice bite to it. We asked the server if she liked the seafood or bulgogi pancake better. She said she liked the seafood pancake better because it was crispy. It was perfectly crispy. Banchan was good. I wish there was a little potato salad or something not pickled. One friend doesn't like pickled food. Wait staff was very nice and attentive. It's not a huge restaurant but it was roomy. I didn't feel claustrophobic or anything. There was a 2 seat table next to us but most tables are divided with a partition. It was nice to see what other people order. read more

The servers are very nice and the restaurant is clean and has a relaxing atmosphere. I can't rave enough about this restaurant! Their katsu chicken curry is insanely good. It's tender and juicy with the perfect amount of breading. Their curry compliments this katsu with a savory aromatic flavor that is both familiar and exotic. It comes out in a stone bowl with the curry bubbling with heat around the chicken which is atop a bed of rice. Do yourself a favor a go! read more

This is a fantastic little spot with amazing flavors, my husband always orders the chicken katsu curry (his absolute favorite), and I've loved everything I've tried here. The food is consistently delicious and keeps us coming back. That said, the place is tiny, so expect a long wait, especially on weekends. They'd definitely benefit from a bigger location to handle the crowds. If you're not in a rush, though, it's worth it for the food! read more

Ok not sure if you've read my 5* amazing food review but I am so frustrated with their online takeout order system that I must give them 1* bc it is entirely annoying. This is the second time this has happened and the second them we've called and been told they'll fix the problem. So. If you're ordering the short ribs with cheese, they don't add the cheese. Apparently it's some error in their system and the response is "pls call us afterwards to make sure you get cheese". So the answer is that you basically should just call your orders in. So why even have an online ordering system if you know it's not working properly. So frustrating. Ok rant off. Food here is great. Online ordering system is fundamentally broken so you shouldn't use it. read more

Wow. The food portions and flavor were soooo good!! I can't believe I hadn't heard about this place before. Service was amazingly quick considering the quality, presentation and tenderness of the food. Now, it wasn't cheap by any means -we tried the short rib stew and it was for 2 people but it cost $60!! Totally worth it. Date place if you want to impress a foodie--not fancy but lovely decor. Pumpkin curry Katsura, beef bone broth and family size rose tteobokki were a free of our choices for our family of 5 and we had tons of leftovers! You gotta try it at least once! read more

We came back to Jon Cook to celebrate a Birthday Dinner Celebration and munch on Korean food and soups. We ordered the usual Tofu Soup with glass noodles and other vegetables, Galbi, and one of their showcase beef ribs dishes with squash, carrots, mushrooms and other creamy ingredients. The restaurant was really small, it hasn't changed its landscape, typical Korean stalls and a little dark. Staff were accommodating and ordering was about averaged, it took a little longer to wait for our food which can be due to a lot of customers coming in and out. The food was cooked really nice and their rice was not too hard but soft and just about cooked nicely. The rice goes nicely with the Galbi and Tofu soups. Parking is abundant on this mini-mall and the restaurant is next to an Amazon Fresh grocery store and a Japanese restaurant. One beef that I have is that they charge you a mandatory tip of 18 percent counting children, too. With the average type of service, we should be able to at least have an option to pay 10-12 percent and not mandatorily impose such tip based on number and NOT quality of service. The service is not too bad but could have been better with a $43 tip for all customers. I'd say, I could have been generous with a $30 but not at a mandatory rate without demonstrating a satisfactory service? I've been to many restaurants but there should be an option to modify a tip and NOT unflinchingly impose it, like a pecuniary or fine? read more

I've come to this spot several times, and food has been consistently good. Pork tonkatsu, fish katsu and soon tofu were some we've tried in the past, which I dont have photos of, but they were really tasty. This time we ordered the spicy galbi jimm and asked for medium spicy, along with galbi soup. Galbi jimm's sauce was delicious, and there were quite a lot of off the bone tender galbi in both dishes. I've been here a few times now and I ALWAYS order their chicken katsu curry! it's been consistently crispy and the curry sauce is always very flavorful! on my most recent visit, my friend and I also ordered the spicy naengmyon and kal-guksu. both were hits! the spicy naengmyon wasnt too spicy which was perfect for me and it was a great entree for a hot day like it was. it came with a very spicy horseradish mustard sauce (not for me) and vinegar which I like adding to it the kal-guksu was also delightful! it didn't really taste like seafood to me although the description says it's a seafood based noodle soup, but the broth was yummy, light, and comforting. there were a lot of noodles in it & the dumplings were pretty hefty! I was thrown off by the prices for each entree at first, but the portions are HUGE and I think they're well worth it! the quality of each dish I've had so far have been amazing and I think this is my fav spot for Korean food in the valley! I always forget it's here until someone else suggests it from time to time and it's always an enjoyable experience! it's located in a large plaza so there's ample parking available. I went around 6pm on a weekday with my friend and we were seated pretty quickly, but I noticed a line start to form outside around 7/7:30. the service is quick and efficient and the workers are nice! it's not a huge area so it can feel a bit crowded but I like that I can still talk to my friends without worrying about disrupting others. First time at Jin Cook here in Northridge/Porter Ranch, and hubby & i must rave about the food quality & taste. . . It was your typical authentic Korean kbbq eatery similar to the ones you find in Los Angeles Koreatown. The food was excellent. Portions were perfect to where we had leftovers. We enjoyed an early 4:30pm dinner on a Thursday. Essentially, ordered braised beef short ribs & hot pot bulgogi, plus a vegan entree of mushroom Japchae glass noodles, accompanied by their banchan. I usually reach for the radish & cucumber at kbbqs but, their kimchee cabbage had a much fresher taste that it could stand on its own. This place is always a fun visit. It's homely and cozy inside and the waiters are always friendly and helpful. We got a half order of garlic suyuk and a katsu combo for 2. The suyuk was extremely soft and the sauces gave great options for flavors. For katsu, they unfortunately ran out of fish, so we chose jalapeño curry (comes with a small bowl of curry sauce) and pork cutlet. It's a great comfort food option that's open relatively late, with a good selection of food options, so I love coming here. read more

Jin cook is one of my go-tos whenever I don't know what to eat. I always enjoy their short rib plate to share. decent korean food for the porter ranch neighborhood. located in the same plaza as amazon fresh. very big parking lot plaza. service: we went on a wednesday night & there was no host in front to check in with. it was surprisingly busy for a wednesday so maybe they were short staffed. we had to go further into the restaurant to flag a waiter to ask where we could sit & if we could get our menus, no biggie. after that, we had one waiter who took our order & checked in on us. he was efficient & quick to take our orders at the beginning as well as give us our check at the end. food: we ordered 2 seollongtangs, a pork curry katsu, & korean pancake bulgogi style. the portion sizes are generous! especially for the katsu - we were surprised by how big it was. Seollongtang was good, hearty soup. It's not up to Hanbat standards, but it's good for what it is. Kind of bummed they do not give out the green onion containers like other restaurants do, but maybe that's only for specialized places? Katsu curry was huge. Lots of sauce & great rice to meat ratio. Bulgogi pancake was interesting - very thick & cakey. I do like how much green onions are added to the pancake, & the sauce that comes with it tastes good. Not sure what the dipping sauce actually is, but reminds me of brisket sauce almost. These are big portions, so FYI they do charge for asking for to go boxes, 50 cents each i believe. This spot had the most beautiful aesthetic of a Korean restaurant I've been to. There is gorgeous traditional art on the walls and it had little hut like booths to separate the tables. The servers were very nice and very honest about their opinions. We were nervous about how spicy or not spicy the food was and our server assured us of exactly how spicy (or not) the spice level was which I appreciated. One of my favorites was the tteokpokki but I was curious to try the rose one (maybe next time). The only thing I didn't like was adding the ramen, I think it was fine just as is! The buchimgae or (kimchi pancake) was pretty good. Now if you're used to a more thick, cake texture you'd love this! I like it a little flatter, spicier, and crispy. I still enjoyed my entire meal. Never been to a Korean sit down restaurant until this past weekend, as I was intrigued and persuaded wife and 2 friends to join us. They don't take reservations and inside is stuffy and packed like sardines. Was told 40-50, got sat in 30 min so not bad. DISCLOSURE: I'm just not into the kimchee/curry soup/bone on meat kinda things, so I kept it simple and conservative, here we go: The pan-fried dumplings: Look much better on the review pics, they almost came out like flat pasta rolls and had a sticky, not crispy pan fry that I was hoping for, an easy pass next time. They give you some pickled appetizers on the house, didn't care for any of them except the onions. Not bad, just not my thing. The Korean pancake sounded fun, ordered with meat and it was perfectly cooked, like pizza slices with a great crisp edge all around, a solid and fun, albeit very filling dish to eat. Bulgogi, which is like the Yoshinoya beef bowl meat but served on a hot stone with rice and an optional fried egg in the middle was very enjoyable; their hot sauce sucks as well as their version of ponzu; they were bizarre. If I even feel like sitting in a cozy, stuffy, cramped food joint ever again, will bring my own sauces. This dish stayed hot throughout the night due to the hot stone, so that was cool. Nice light beer went well with the heavy meal, called Terra brand. Friends had the braised beef with is huge and 70 bucks, again not my thing I like very limited items in the Korean kitchen, but the ones that I like very solid and it was fun to try. Recently went to Jin Cook. It was hopping on a weeknight! The staff was really kind and helpful. The restaurant is cozy and nicely appointed. The iced 'tea' was really nice. I can't remember the name of the beverage but it had a good earthen taste and they were happy to ice it for us; it is usually served hot. The kimchee starters were all fresh and had good varied flavors. I had the mushroom pot and added an egg. My husband had the spicy beef pot. All very good and hearty. We definitely didn't go home hungry. read more

While I certainly love Korean food, I am clearly not a connoisseur of it either. I see that most reviews for Jin Cook (the Porter Ranch location) are 5 stars, and I just wasn't all that moved to granting all those stars for their food. Sure, I wanted to like it that much, and I always am thrilled to give credit when and where it's due. I've just had better tasting food elsewhere, that's all. Overall, I found the food to either be too spicy (when I very clearly requested the lowest level of spiciness, or I found there to be no appreciable flavor when they are noted for great flavors. Perfect example... beef bulgogi. First of all, this dish hits with both savory and sweet notes, and lots of them, and whenever I've had it, I've loved it. Yet, Jin Cook's version was barely noticeable, kind of bland, almost watered down version of flavors, and yet it wasn't watery. Also, I thought the beef quality wasn't the same quality that I've been used to. Another tried and true dish that I absolutely love... soondubu. Not all Korean restaurants offer this soup, and when it's on the menu, I order it. So I did here, and once again, I was subjected to not much in the way of soup flavors, but I sure got a good dose of spiciness... when I requested the lowest level of heat/spiciness. My husband ordered the same soup, and his came out fine, but for whatever the reason, mine came out super spicy. One could see the colors were bright red for mine... but his was extremely pale in color compared to mine. The waitress thought I was nuts, however. She insisted they were the same. They clearly were not. They did ask if I wanted another batch, so I said yes, and of course, it was much milder... but it still was missing flavor. Spiciness has nothing to do with basic flavor. The steamed pork dumplings were decent, but it wasn't as good as the xiao long bao at Din Tai Fung. Okay, I'm comparing Chinese/Taiwanese to Korean, but to me, the only difference is that the dumpling was less doughy and less plump at Din Tai Fung, and also, the flavors were much better at Din Tai Fung. The flavors and quality of Din Tai Fung's xiao long bao simply can't be beaten. The steamed pancake was good, but here again, the flavors were lacking even though there was a nice amount of the seafood and vegetables mixed in. I was also disappointed in the banchan. There were only 5 items, and of those 5, they were all veggies, not even any fishcakes, nothing really interesting, and 3 of them were sitting in that spicy red sauce, which isn't bad, per se, but I'm used to variety, and this just seemed a little boring and repetitious. I didn't want so many to be that spicy, either. Most places I've been to offer between 6-10 items and are a little better with the variety. All the food was decent enough, but I was expecting a lot more in the flavor department. For all that loss of flavor, I felt let down, and also, they are not bashful charging A LOT of money for their food. I think they need to add more flavor... a lot MORE flavor and then, maybe, the price would be more acceptable to me. I paid a lot of money to be disappointed. read more

Another valley favorite of ours. Feels like fancy, home-cooked Korean food. Our favorite is the brisket hot stone plate (with rice and veggies and added cheese)! The servers are always so kind and come around often to make sure we have all that we need. I came back to JinCook today and was very disappointed with the food quality. I ordered the 2 item combo -pork +chicken cutlet. This is not a Japanese style katsu, so you don't have the light and crispy panko. The chicken was okay.. just okay. This wasn't the main issue-it was the pork quality... balls of battered fat is the best way to describe it. I am not that picky when it comes to katsu meat, as I understand that you don't have to use the best, unless you are going to be known for your katsu. This wasn't not it... balls of pork fat - in deep fried batter is not the best smell or taste in your mouth. I don't know if they use a better cut of pork for the non-combo menu items, but do yourself a favor and do not get the pork cutlet. Kind of gross, but I spat out a bunch. And left half... I just couldn't do it. Stick to the soups. Very disappointed. read more
