Ok, lets just start with the fact that looking at this place, you should KNOW that you are not getting 5 star food. This place is PURELY atmosphere and great service. Every summer, locals are chomping at the bit for Jims to open. Its a bit like a shack thats been there forever. On any given night, if you are from the area, you will know at least 2-4 people on the deck dining. Dogs are allowed and its BYOB. They even give you a wine key and glasses and charge ZERO corkage fee. They also allow you to bring blenders and you can plug them in outside to whip up some margaritas! The fish is always fresh, and it should be, they are directly across from the fishing boats of Galilee. They have their own lobster tanks which are also filled with steamers waiting to go! If you want to relax, and you are not in a hurry to be anywhere, grab a few bottles of wine, a sweatshirt, and some cash, and head down here. What a great way to end a perfect summer afternoon. Oh, Jim's Dock, how I love you. It's a perfect spot to visit after a long day at the beach for some clamcakes and chowder! By the way, the chowder is to die for, some of the best I've ever had. It's a fairly small menu, BUT it is BYOB! I've never had much of a wait here as it seems like there are plenty of tables. It offers a great view of a marina. They also allow dogs! The only downside that Jim's Dock used to have is that it was cash only - but I can see a recent review that states they now take credit cards! Eaten here probably five or six times over the last few years. I remember giggling like an idiot the first time I saw Freedom Fries on the menu. They ought to cut that crap out because, seriously, that's embarrassingly dumb. The food is over-priced for what you get, it is BYOB, the outdoor seating is wretched, the restroom is bare bones, and the parking is literally the worst thing imaginable, but on the whole, Jim's Dock seems to be slightly better than almost all of the local alternatives. The Rhode Island Clam Chowder is good (the clear kind, the only really awesome clam chowder in my opinion), and as long as you stick to what you know is fresh seafood, Jim's is a good choice. read more

I've been to Jm's several times this past summer. I head out thinking i will go to Matunuk Oyster house and when i see the lines and the crowd, I keep going straight to Jims. The clam cakes and chowder are always fresh and delicious. I also am a huge fan of the ahi tuna , i get it on a bed of greens with balsamic dressing. Jim's is BYOB and has a large deck out back with beautiful views of point Judith. There is a weird parking strategy, but overall it's OK. You leave your cell phone number on your windshield and they will call you to move your car if you have blocked someone. Not a big deal. Parking is definitely scarce. Jims is a favorite of mine, for sure. read more

Lobster rolls were absolutely ridiculously priced $28. It was not the best lobster roll I've ever had and I have never paid so much for a lobster roll. This is unreal considering every other restaurant located in this area has them for $22 or less. Ate here on 07/24/16. Had the scrod with broccoli and rice. It went for $17. I found it mediocre and expensive. They quoted me $29 for the Whole Belly Clam dinner. I called the nice little pub down the street from my house called the 133 Club, and as usual, the huge portions of Whole Belly Clams was only $15. The best deal in town. Went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday - we've been wanting to go for quite some time. Beautiful setting, not a long wait, nice service - food not so good. The scallops were overdone, the clear chowder was thick with overcooked potatoes. I had the fish tacos, but they did not come with salsa, sour cream or any other toppings like every other place gives you. I asked the waitress for sour cream, and she came back and said they don't have any. What?? Clamcakes very good, however, not one of us (8 people) could find a clam in them. I realize you pay for the location, but the food was extremely overpriced. All these good reviews really surprised us, so maybe we just hit a bad day. read more

My wife and I just rediscovered this little South County gem again. Great byob spot to grab some chowder and fish and chips. The special fish and chips in the corn flake crust was delicious. We didn't know going into it that one order would be enough for 2 people. Parking can be a hassle but it's not as bad as some people say. My family has been here several times but I don't think we will go back after last night. We were told it would be an hour wait and we ended up waiting over 2. We wanted to sit outside but could only get seated inside if we didn't want to wait another hour. We were sat inside and they took our order with no apology for the wait. I ended up getting the tuna and when we waited for the food for an hour the tuna was cold. I asked for medium rare and they gave me very very rare tuna. I sent it back twice which I never ever do. The vegetables were not edible or seasoned, only good thing was the french fries. My grandma got coffee and didn't receive it until my mom had to ask for it again when we got our food. Since I work in kitchens and am familiar with seasonal restaurant positions on the beach I was shocked they didn't offer to comp anything or even really apologize. It's not even like you have to worry about bottle service or alcohol which saves the servers a ton of time. Overall, it was an unfortunate way to end my family vacation. read more

I took my daughter and four friends here for lunch on Sunday. It was too cold to sit outside, so we asked for a table for six inside. We were told they cannot push tables together for us. So we crammed into a table for four. After we've been seated for 10 minutes or so, a party of six came in and the waitresses put two tables together for that group. The waitress was very attentive, but the table was sticky. Three of the girls ordered a bowl of chowder for their entrée, but it was brought out ahead of the rest of our meals. The clam fritters were brought out and there was a long hair in the middle, so she took it back and resolved it pretty quickly with a fresh batch - I hope. I asked for a clam strip roll, and received just clam strips, no roll, that were room temperature. At this point, I just wanted to finish and get out of there. We come here every summer with a large group for a family reunion, and always had a good experience. I hope this is just a bad day, but we are unlikely to return. read more

Memorial Day Weekend and given the beautiful weather, we decided to stay local and go to Jim's Dock. We love the laid back atmosphere and the views. However, the food for 4 out of 5 of us was such an incredible disappointment and waste of money that unfortunately we will no longer support this establishment. We requested the market price for the lobster rolls ($28 and $29), clam strips ($21), and whole bellys (around $25). They are way overpriced for what their food quality is. So, we opted for a more reasonable price point with fish and chips averaging $13-$15. The fish was so awful, that 2 of 4 people didn't even eat it. The other two loaded tartar sauce and lemon and picked the white meat out of the disgusting batter. The French fries were horrible and had a strange flavor. How can you mess up French fries?!?!? The coleslaw was tasteless; basically like eating raw iceberg lettuce and raw cabbage. The waitress was sweet but the meals were just really horrible. It really hurt to have to actually pay for this experience. There are plenty of other better options available. read more

This is a great place to enjoy a relaxing post-beach meal - right on the water, very chill. Agree that it's a little on the pricy side, but really - what do you expect for a place like this? Location, location, location! Husband got fish & chips and enjoyed very much - breading wasn't too heavy like you find in some places; fries were awesome. I got the grilled chicken sandwich which, for a seafood place, was actually pretty decent. I'll also second the awesome fries. The three stars is for my sister's mussels. She said the taste and flavor were great, but that there was sand in every one. Was very sad as she was visiting from out of state and was in search of a great mussel dish - this wasn't it. Have been to Jims Dock many times in the past and always enjoyed the food. However, visited for the first time since the Hurricane Sandy reconstruction on a beautiful Sunday at prime time and walked right in. This aroused my suspicions immediately as we always had to wait. We ordered a appetizer of steamers that we were going to share. The price was $12 we received 6 steamers. I ordered a cup of the RI Clear Chowder always my favorite type of chowder. $5 for a small paper cup of mostly potatoes, not a clam in sight. My wife ordered a pesto pasta special with scallops and shrimp not the best at $36, for a pasta dish? My usual order of whole belly clams came with very small belly's and some strips, much smaller of an order then the past. Since the renovation,prices are out of sight and the place is a tourist trap. It has its pluses BYOB and location, but you can get a better meal, and service from a more extensive menu and a better atmosphere just down the road at Matunick Oyster Bar.
