had a vanilla almond milk coffee. it was pretty good, almond milk is pretty hit or miss, this one was a bit more bitter (not bad at all though) the restaurant has fairly good seating for a cafe, all the tables were full though considering it's in the middle of kensington market. the service was awesome! the staff were super sweet and efficient, i only waited a couple minutes even though the cafe was filled with people. read more

Tried Jimmy's for the first time recently and it did not disappoint! First and foremost, the location is *to die for*. Like, the inside is cute cozy mismatched furniture vibes and the outside is a vibrant patio with plants and murals. Definitely sit down if you can!! I had a gold brew, which was cold brew with turmeric, honey, ginger (I think) and milk. It sounded weird, but I figured they wouldn't make it if it wasn't good. Sure enough, it was really good. The turmeric and honey were a great compliment to the coffee flavour, and the cold brew definitely gave me a kick in the pants energy-wise. My friend got a chai latte and although it seemed to take a really long time to make, she was pleased to report it was a great latte with a strong chai flavour. I've been wanting to visit their Portland St. location, but was gave up finding it in -26 weather, so I'm glad I stumbled upon their Kensington Market location! Contrary to Dark Horse, the café that I visited earlier in the day, this place played more Shoegazery music. So the atmosphere was a bit more chill as opposed to lively 'n social. Had a Cappuccino and it had a nice, thick crema. Very smooth. I hope that I'm not losing my tastebuds, but aside from the crema, it's difficult for me to say which café was better. The only difference seemed to be the atmosphere. This particular location was long and fairly narrow. Seating, especially with tables, are rather limited. And in the warmer months, there's outdoor seating on the back patio. Furniture was an eclectic mix of vintage. Place was decorated in a 'Jimmy' theme, re: Jimmy Hoffa, Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy (James) Dean, etc. Would go back! read more

I really like this place - it's has a huge sky light so lots of natural light can enter and a back patio for warm days. They have super cute decor throughout the cafe from old encyclopedias to random mismatched chairs here and there. Just felt so nice to sit and absorb everything around me and observe every detail in the cafe. Why the 4 stars then? I got the London fog and it left the taste of aspartame in my mouth. The first few sips of foam was heavenly until I got to the actual drink. Next time, I'll opt for a latte or coffee. read more

Okay, this is the cutest coffee shop I've ever been to. When I first came in, I was trying to figure out if this was a tribute to a certain person, but no, it's a tribute to all the Jimmy's out there in the world. The interior is like a little library with some old desks. A lot of people were in there plugging away or outside enjoying the patio. I had a soy latte with an extra shot, which was perfect. Wonderful selection of teas and they are always very good. The cafe is open relatively late, though, and there are usually plenty of seats (or guests on their way out). That being said, the coffee gets watery at times, and much of the staff's bantering with customers gets lost on me. Before you read this review I just want to say that this is a beautiful cafe with an outdoor area. I would love to come here again to try different drinks and relax. ----About the drinks---- I came here with two others and writing this review on their behalf as well. I got a vanilla coffee with two espresso shots. This drink was delicious for me and was exactly what I wanted. Highly recommended. We also got a cold caramel latte as well as an americano. The latte was extremely sweet, almost undrinkable. I was going to ask for a remake but instead she had to drink half and dilute it with milk. I'm sure this was a rare occurrence but its unfortunate because I was going to give this place 4 or 5 stars. ----About the service----- Very nice staff, very polite. Too bad he misheard my order. This might be another case of he-said she-said but I ordered a large but they made a medium. I'm positive I ordered a large and asked them but I didn't want to deal with it so I just took the medium instead. Again, another buzzkill. I'm more than willing to come back again-I'm sure this will be better the second time around. Overall, a very nice place to bring a bunch of people and talk. They have plenty of chairs and tables. Such a picture perfect coffee shop. Soft, warm and welcoming. On a cold day, just walking in and smelling the atmosphere is enough to warm you up on the inside, literally. I make sure to stop in every single time I visit Kensington Market. The cappuccino and hot chocolate are my two favourite options. Great place to grab a cup of Joe before venturing out to stroll the market. I will continue to return here for the great coffee and atmosphere. 4/5 for me! read more

I was early for an appointment and saw the yellow Jimmy's Coffee sign on Baldwin beckoning me in. I was tempted by their S'mores Latte ($4.69 small) on the menu so I ordered that. Wanted to grab a table or a seat to drink my coffee but everything was taken so I got it to go. S'mores latte was creamy, smooth and not obnoxiously sweet. I was hoping for a toasted marshmallow top or something a bit fancier but it was just a basic latte with a couple pumps of flavour syrup. Still tasty and ridiculously small for the price but hit the spot for my caffeine and sweet cravings at the moment. I could be back, Jimmy. read more

During our Great Canadian Road Trip, it became evident just how much I've become reliant on Yelp for vacation planning. I'm obsessive - I plan out the days, I make spreadsheets. But sometimes those spreadsheets get left behind when leaving our bags with the hotel pre-check in, and sometimes the international megabytes you paid for on your data plan don't work, and that's when you're in the middle of Kensington Market and cannot remember where you wanted to go. And, let's face it, wandering around multiple city blocks for godknowshowlong isn't always appealing. I've got a bad case of Wanderlust, but I also like to know where the hell I'm going. I was so happy to find Jimmy's Coffee. We both needed a break and I was able to get my bearings once I connected to their WiFi. The iced coffee and the WiFi hit the spot. The coffee menu was simple and straightforward. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the patio is an attractive option for more breezy days. Another outstanding cafe by Jimmy. The layout of this place is actually a lot like Cafe Panemar- it is a long room with outdoor seating at the back. The feel is less polished and slightly more rustic- It doesn't feel quite finished yet- but I think that is part of the charm of the place- I almost want to leave my sweater on that empty spot on the shelf or keep a book laying on that random table- and I am almost positive that it will still be there when I come back. No, but the REAL charm about this place are the two lovely people who made us coffee- Eleanor and Charlie. My date and I came here after lunch and were looking for a post-coffee chill. When we arrived, the folks at the bar couldn't have been more welcoming. I had an Americano, my date had a Chocolate Misto/Mocha (a delicious twist on just a plain mocha or just a hot chocolate- ALMOST the same thing but not quite : ) ). And we got a peanut butter square to share. We made chit chat with the baristas- both of them worked at the old location but there was an energy at the Kensington location that was just 100% more happy and, dare I say, spritely? When they rang us up I pulled out my credit card to pay and they said they only took cash or debit *****(*Note to everyone- CASH or DEBIT ONLY!)***** I didn't have my wallet on me and I eagerly tried to pay for my date as I told them to find a good table in the sun- Charlie saw my sad face and said, "Well, we can cover it if you're a regular". Holy shat- so they pretty much covered my 9$ tab and I thanked them profusely and LITERALLY told them that I love them. We dropped in here to scope out the latest in the market's gentrified wave of young upstart businesses, this one filling the need for a solid coffee shop that isn't Starbucks. The front entrance has a sheltered doorway that is set in from the sidewalk designed in a way that lessens the chance of being run over by a cyclist or skateboarder careening down Baldwin. The front facade has been well integrated into the row without the look that a cheesy sign hung above would give. Inside the interior is quite beautiful and we were greeted by a nicely hand lettered blackboard filled with their drink offerings. 'Steamed apple cider!' ooooooh that sounds good! is what I heard as the owner came up, greeted us and offered introductory drinks on the house as we gazed around the place. The standard reclaimed wood benches are well situated and mismatched chairs keep with the funky market look. They asked if we wanted to stay or takeout. Their china dishes and cups are nice with a kid's tea party look to them. The drinks tasted wonderful on that Saturday and went well with the ambiance, partially helped out by the sizeable skylight near the rear and indirect sunlight filling the rear section looking out over the large patio toward the south. The patio wasn't open yet and looks it will be a hit with patrons. The service was no nonsense and so much better than the sometimes confusing Starbucks experience. The Saturday Night Live skit we watched later that evening making fun of their system of labelling the paper cups reminded me of how much I like Jimmy's! read more

If you've never been inside of Jimmy's, you've never seen what they have to offer. I really mean this because I totally didn't think anything of this random coffee shop but after walking in and venturing inside, the first thing you'll notice is it is really really long. I mean the store kinda goes on for a while. And then if you look through the glass to the patio you'll notice that there's an enormous patio as well. huh, who knew. Other than that their coffee was mediocre, it's nothing to cry to the queen about. What really makes this place is the space. There's tons of places to sit and really interesting pieces of furniture. Walked into Jimmy's and stood in line. Got to the counter and ordered. While waiting, I asked the barista where I could find a good bar to go to after hours and I was expecting a few suggestions off the top of his head. Instead, I got the full anthology of bars in the neighborhood and broke it down by price, atmosphere, quality, location and type of crowd. And while he was explaining, a line formed behind me to order so I felt bad and apologized, but not only were they polite to me, they jumped in as well giving me tips on locations and such. I love Canadians. Seriously. And I love Toronto. It's one of 3 favorite cities in North America. And it's mainly due to how awesome the people are here. Anyhow, finally got our coffees and cookies and other dessert items and found a table to sit and plan out our next bar adventure. What a place to be! The staff is very friendly, they were laughing all the time, having fun, working and helping people. The music playing in the cafe was perfect for working and studying. I had their own blended coffee, it was smooth and roasty, a better blend than most cafes I've visited so far. Their oatmeal raisin cookie was too buttery and sweet for my taste. But it was cheap. There are 5 main areas, benches in front, 3 different rooms inside and a backyard/patio to enjoy the sun. Working at a table in the very back end was the best choice I've made that day. I wanted to check out Kensington Market before I left Toronto. It was a rainy day so I decided to pop into Jimmy's to wait out the rain. The interior reminds me of an old library. There is a rather large outdoors/backyard seating area for sunshine filled days. I ordered a medium coffee and as I was fishing around for my credit card the barista said they have a $5 minimum for cards. 'Shoot' I said to myself. I asked him if Jimmy's carries any food and be pointed to the glass display to the right if him - with an assorted pastry collection, oatmeal, and a couple of cold quinoa salads. After digging around in the display for a couple of minutes, he said 'it's on me today'. What?!!! I was blown away. Guys, the hospitality in this city is unrivaled. Jimmy's is an excellent coffee joint with friendly baristas and a good cup of joe. If you want a place to kick back after exploring the nooks and crannies of Kensington market, this is your spot. I'm a very plain coffee drinker having only tasted their regular brew and Americano here. Where Jimmy's wins in my books is the atmosphere. Great environment to chill out with a group, or to sit down with your laptop and get some work done. The decor is great to look at - including all the various famous Jimmy paintings and murals visible throughout the cafe. Having a variety of seating types keeps the place fresh. I love this place. It's great for sitting down with a book or grabbing a coffee with a friend. They have a patio in the back which is great for warm afternoons. Inside feels cozy. Coffee is pretty good, and at $2 for a medium, it's definitely worth the 0.25 more than a medium coffee at a fast food establishment.
