We were in the area after lunch at Sugo and were looking for a great coffee. Thanks to ChatGPT, we came across this recommendation. Check it out with reviews; I love the fact that it's located inside a warehouse. We went inside and ordered a flat white and a latte, along with a brownie. The tables were long, and there were many remote workers, people playing games, and others reading books. It was a quaint experience. My boyfriend loved the coffee; it was very strong, flavorful, and delicious. The brownie was also a 10 out of 10. We spent the afternoon before they closed on a rainy Saturday, playing Uno. read more

What a great space! Big and open, and - at the moment - not noisy. Matter of fact there is just some light music playing in the deep background, and you can hear the sound of customers typing quietly at their laptops. It feel like a cool study hall. Coffee is great. I'm no coffee sommelier, but the americano I had was rich with just a hint of the third wave sourness (do they still call it third wave, or are we onto another wave by now?) Came in a nice branded cup! The location is tucked into an industrial corner between Bloor and Wallace that is definitely transitioning. There is a huge building being completed right out front, so enjoy the quiet for now, before the crowds arrive. Service was friendly and chill. read more

Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 This is a large, open, airy coffee house. It's got that industrial modern vibe going with concrete floors & minimalistic furniture. There are mostly long tables with chairs. There was a large group at one table doing crossword puzzles together. There was also single people working on their laptops. Even a couple with their small child were there. As for bathrooms, there's only one large bathroom in a small hallway to the side of the barista bar. Beyond that there is a large room with glass walls & what looks to be a large coffeee grinder. I'm no expert on coffee as I'm a tea drinker so I think that's what it is. LOL. Btw there are no steps to contend with for this coffee shop so it's fine for people who are in a wheelchair, scooter, or otherwise mobility challeneged. The wall near the entrance is where you can order your drink. Besides coffee & tea they also have some sodas & water. For food they have snacky type foods like pastries & some granola bars. Service is about what you would expect from a coffee house. There were two people running the behind the counter operations. They were knowledgeable & efficient. This place wasn't terribly busy when we came on a Saturday afternoon. It's also on a quiet back street so there isn't that much foot traffic. Unless you know the area you wouldn't know about this place. This place closed at 3pm on a Saturday which I find strange. But maybe that's normal for this area. It's not far from Landsdowne subway station but to my suburban eyes the place looks like it could be a bit sketchy at night. There isn't much lighting so I imagine at night this place would be very dark. There's also a bunch of construction across from the coffee shop so that lends to the industrial atmosphere. Maybe once the condo construction is done this place will feel (to me) a bit safer with more lights & foot traffic. I was only at this coffee house because it was near a venue where I attended a workshop. I otherwise wouldn't be in the area. I'm not likely to come back unless I attend another workshop at the venue. read more

Ordered a Yirgz pour over. Great bean and delivered perfectly through pour over. Pronounced floral note, plenty of sweetness, and subtle acidity. This is now my favourite Toronto metro roastery. Plus, their price is unbelievably low: $5.5 for pour over. read more

Solid neighbourhood cafe and great place for working. Café fits around 60 people plus a little outdoor seating. It was rammed when I went. I was surprised by the number of people there. With all the people here, Wi-Fi speeds still managed 11/10 on testing which isn't so bad. Notable espresso. Had a muffin also. Service is great. Very airy with the high roof. Worth a visit. read more

3.5 stars overall. Service and space is a 4 star experience though! Propeller Coffee is a local coffee roaster and from trying various cafes around Toronto, I've found their single origin bean to be a growing favourite. This particular location is hidden ... you would never think that down a gritty industrial road would have this little gem of a coffee spot. The space itself is a modern loft like space with a nice vaulted ceiling and a large space. It's so large that they rent out this spot for special events including weddings. I've tried to come here twice before only to find it closed early because it was booked for a wedding. Service here was a notable stand out. They have a lot of beans available for purchase. I knew I liked some beans but I had no idea which ones to choose. The barista took the team to come around from counter and helped us figure out which beans best matched the flavour profile I loved. She even explained a bit about the regional bean profile so I could be better exploring more beans if that particular one wasn't exactly what I wanted. This was just really great. Flat White - The pretty latte art adorned a quickly made cup. The price point was very favourable. The bean they used was Ace and it certainly wasn't bad but I found it more acidic than I like. It had a bit of a light body and a fruitier note than I was expecting. To a person who isnt used to espresso based drinks, you may find this a bit more sour than you're used to. Overall, a good solid drink. 3.5/5 We did end up buying Brazil Monte Alto beans and it was much closer to what I liked. So I think next time I'm here, I'll probably try a pour over instead or see if they can grind up some other beans for a flat white! read more

Huge place that is pretty hidden away, kind of sketchy. Plenty of tables and open spot, whether you need to get work done or meet up with some friends. Parking is a bit difficult as it looks like it's mostly street parking. Latte was delicious and they have a great selection of beans they roast. I definitely had to buy some to take home. read more

This is a great spot for coffee and getting some work done as a hipster trendy cool person (Macbook required). Come by and get a great customer service from all the team and quite tasty coffee! Skip the food but stay for the multiples coffee options that most coffee places don't venture in. Great ambiance and work atmosphere! Recommend! read more

A hidden gem, in the most unassuming place. This coffee shop is behind a building and you'd have no reason to even drive by here unless you were parking illegally to use the subway from Lansdowne station or you were visiting someone at the building - really, no reason! So, naturally, when I was craving a tea and saw this place, my expectations weren't high. Man, was I surprised! The instant I walked in, I fell in love with how beautiful the space was, very industrial, high ceilings look but the decor definitely fits the space. (I later found out that they host events and weddings here). The staff were very friendly, and.... this was quite possibly the best chai tea latte I've ever had in the city (move aside, Starbucks)!!! I accidentally took a sip of my boyfriend's coffee and was pleasantly surprised by how good that was as well. We sat down for a little while on a rainy Saturday morning, and it was the perfect way to spend the morning. The crowd was a mix of young adults on their laptops, young couples (some with kids), and friends catching up over coffee. Looked like the crowd probably lived in the neighbouring area. They had breakfast sandwiches too which looked quite good, so I'll be back one day with an appetite in tow! read more

Great place to get some work done! The space is airy and bright with ample seating -- no fighting for a spot here. There is plenty of room to spread out and you don't feel hurried out at any point. Wifi is good, music is quiet and not too distracting. The coffee is excellent -- I think their beans recently won an award? This is not the place for fancy flavoured lattes. Rather, just get something simple and enjoy. They offer a small selection of cookies, croissants, and sandwiches in case you get hungry. This is a lovely spot and it's just a short walk from Lansdowne station. Part of me wishes it were more centrally located, but I think part of the charm (and the reason it is nice and quiet) is because it is on a side street. read more

Got a couple of bags of coffee from here, but it was hard to find freshly roasted coffee as most of them seemed to be about 10 days old. In addition to that, the roasted-on date stickers were inconveniently placed at the bottom of each bag. After looking through twenty or so bags, I went over to the counter and asked the cashier if they had any freshly roasted coffee. She seemed annoyed by my question, but at least had a somewhat helpful answer. In the end, I left with two bags of coffee, but not the ones I came for because I couldn't find any that were recently roasted. In fact, I only managed to find two in total hidden among several dozen 10-day-old bags. I've been having their Ethiopia Ardi (also got their Peru Pangoa, but haven't gotten to that one yet) and it's pretty nice. The beans smell very citrusy and chocolatey; pour-over with these beans taste very much like that too. Very smooth and slightly acidic. I'd like to try all of their other roasts, but they don't seem to reliably stock a fresh supply of their offerings. They have a rewards card for beans: Buy 8 bags, get one (up to $21) free. read more

I would rate this tucked away gem more stars if we could please have a price list on the food and drink. I find it elitist to not have some basic information to go by. That is all. read more

This place is tucked away, and for us it was a destination on a nice cool Saturday morning. I wanted to check it out because it also has a roasters and I was curious. It was in an interesting location and I would have never found it, as it's very industrial. Inside is really nice and the drinks / food were good. Staff were very accommodating and helped us clean up AND brought us a new steamed milk after our two year old dumped it all over the floor. it would be a great place for meetings as it is quite spacious. There was a group planning a wedding close by with their wedding planner and it was cool to see that. read more

Vibes? Check. Delicious coffee? Check. Friendly staff? Check. This coffee shop reminds me of one of the most popular ones in Nashville (where I live) called Barista Parlor. Plus, propeller had "espresso tonic", a coffee drink I've been craving for 2 months since my last trip to NYC. Will definitely be back here! It's tucked away so you'd never just pass by it... Best coffee in Bloordale and most beautiful coffee shop in the city. It's all windows. Great place to have meetings because of the long shared tables. Only drawbacks: 1. Customer service is hit and miss. 2. The food options never quite look appetizing. I had the chocolate chip cookie one time and it was a sugary punch in the face -- highly DO NOT recommend. And they always seem to have just run out of the vegetarian breakfast sandwich when I come after noon. read more

I was staying right nearby in the Junction Triangle area (is that what we call this now?) and my hosts pointed me towards Propeller for my morning coffee and wifi and waking up slowly needs. Excellent choice, great big tables to sit and work at surrounded by big windows, nice crowd of locals, not too bumping because of the still-industrial and artists spaces location. Peaceful and delicious. Delicious delicious did I say delicious pour over coffee served hot and fresh in a little carafe, three choices of beans on offer, I enjoyed the mellow chocolatey vibes of the costa rican and the jolt of social approval from feeling like the barista approved of my coffee and therefore life choices. Jokes. The service was slowish, maybe we can say unhurried, but super kind and friendly with honest no-smarm smiles that make a space feel warm and safe. The breakfast sandwich was so good I would find it hard not to swing by for one most days if I lived here. Excellent spot, look forward to my next visit, Merci!! read more

Short and sweet: my favourite coffee in Toronto. Doubly endorsed for: great work spot, with many seats filled but a healthy (but generally low-volume) buzz going on during workdays. Food is fine if you're hungry, but definitely not the thing to focus on at Propeller. The coffee though? That's worth a shuffle out of your way to get. Yelp note: a little hidden on Wade Avenue; Google Maps and CityMapper are your friends, gang! read more

There has been a lot of (negative) discussion about "hipsters" serving coffee, however, this place can benefit from a friendly hipster barista/server. I had followed the build and opening of Propeller and visited with anticipation and was impressed with every detail...except the server. That said, I'm not looking to be entertained although a simple acknowledgement, while being the sole person in line for five minutes, might be nice. Ask for skim milk and be shamed, and I am confident that this was, and remained, the highlight of our young servers day. As far as the coffee is concerned, we gulped it back so we could run to another "hipster" coffee shop where the server AND the barista actually acknowledged our existence and smiled whilst taking our money. Location: Being from Montreal, I couldn't even begin to tell you how to get here. It's in a ghetto-esque part of town where you would never really expect to find this type of coffee house. We took the street car (or bus - I forget) to get here but unless you live in the neighbourhood, you might want to drive. I would definitely consider Propeller to be of the 'hidden gem' variety. The place: Loved it. The space resembles a large loft, with garage-style windows making up two of its walls, beautiful wood tables (communal-style) and a large bar. They also have a tasting room where you can try their various blends! Note that this is only open on weekdays. Overall, the space is spacious and clean. Very airy joint where I would park myself with a book or laptop for several hours, if I lived in the T-dot. Coffee: Awesome. I don't really think I need to say more other than the roast they used for my Macchiato was the Ace. Service: OK. The girl behind the counter wasn't overly friendly or smiley but she did take the time to tell me about their different blends before I left, since I wanted to stock up before heading back to Montreal. Price point: Expensive. I had a Macchiato and a plain croissant and it cost me $8. read more

Good news, bad news Good news: This hidden spot has a great parking lot and awesome vibe in a warehouse district I didn't even know was there. Good news also that you can book the whole space for events! Bad news: When you plan your day around working at this cool spot with good coffee and you have to pick a new spot because someone else rented it out for the morning. Argh! Frustrated that I drove all the way out and have to find a new spot to do some work. read more

Probably the best kept secret of the coffee scene in Toronto. Amazing micro brewery with very interesting roasts as well as an impressive coffee bar that boasts the only clover machine outside of Starbucks that I have seen. Went to get a coffee before I got some errands today. Wanted to get a dirty chai. My boyfriend had been here before and told me they gave him grief the last time he asked for one. And to my shock they have expresso and they have chai but said they couldn't make it. And after telling them to just add it to the chai.the barista hesitantly says "ummmm I can make the chai and the espresso but you have to pour it in ". And at the end we had chai and a cup of espresso separate we had to pour in as if it was a barista sin to mix both. This place is pretentious yuppie hipster hang out with no customer service. I hate this fake wanna be New York undiscovered hang out it reeks of. Good coffee bad service. read more

Wow, what a gem! Went to Propeller Coffee for a coffee tasting and education event through Toronto Commons, and had such a great experience! The owner Geoff is super knowledgeable about all the origins and brews of coffee, and was a great host. The coffee and space is well-thought out, sourced, and environmentally conscious. Umm yeah, great coffee shop if you want to get shot or mugged getting there lol I didn't even feel comfortable leaving my car in that parking lot. The coffee was good, great open space. The outside of the building looks shabby, there are weeds all around the front door and windows. A building should be maintained inside and out but maybe they wanted the building to fit in with the area. Do not come here with anyone to have a conversation. All the tables are huge and shared. Everyone there is on a laptop, and it feels like your interrupting everyone when all you want to do is catch up with a friend. Honestly, not worth it for what it is. read more

I really appreciated the discreet location of the coffee shop. Regardless of how non-central it was, it seemed like people definitely knew about it as it was very busy when I went, on a weekday early afternoon. They had so many delicious looking sweets on display and the shop itself smelled like freshly baked cinnamon buns. A great place to go with a group or socialize but wouldn't recommend it as a study spot as it can get fairly loud. The only downside to my experience there was that I really didn't enjoy the coffee itself. I tried the espresso and couldn't finish it. If you like acidic Arabica coffee with strong florals maybe it is for you. read more

I have been meaning to leave this review for a while as this incident happened a couple of months ago. My boyfriend picked up a bag of Propeller (Kenya?) whole coffee beans from Crema. The coffee smelled amazing and we couldn't wait to try it, but when we made it in our French Press it didn't taste right. It was very sour. I even took the brewed coffee to work and had my co-worker try it and even she agreed that the coffee tasted off. I believe her exact words was that the coffee was so sour it tasted like sweat. I then gave it to my mom and she gave it to her various co workers who all agreed that the coffee was not good so it ended up being thrown in the garbage. To keep this part short, my boyfriend went back to Crema and they couldn't refund or exchange the beans because we had opened the package so he left his number with the barista and proceeded to email Propeller. He did not get an email back but did get a phone call from somebody at the company. The representative at Propeller asked my boyfriend what he "thought" was wrong with the coffee, so my boyfriend told him the coffee was sour and undrinkable. The representative asked how we prepared it and what kind of coffee we usually drink. He then told us that "this is the direction that coffee is going and we would have to train ourselves to appreciate the taste." I am really not sure what kind of response that is to a dissatisfied customer. Instead of offering to swap out the bag (because perhaps it was a bad batch), the rep decided to tell us that we had to "train our tastebuds" to appreciate the product. No, thank you. If I could give a 0 for customer service, I would. read more
