Jimmy Jo's is the epitome of a small, hole-in-the-wall type place. So, of course, it made me want to stop. The service was friendly and the food was pretty good. Again, there is absolutely nothing fancy v about Jimmy Jo"s, but really, there is nothing fancy about barbecue. This place is a cute little walkup to the window spot on the water. There was only one person working (that I could see) when I arrived 2 hours before closing but I ordered ahead and had no wait. The ribs and brisket were tender, well seasoned and had a nice smoky flavor. The greens were pretty good with a slightly tart vinegary bite. None of my family members were fans of the Mac and cheese but the baked beans were pretty good- they were VERY sweet but still a good pairing with the tart greens, smoky meat and Texas toast. Overall I was grateful to find a nice meal within 10 minutes from my house that was well-portioned and not overpriced. read more

Stopped into The Beer Shed and decided to try the new ownership at the food place next door. Let's just say it was amazing!! We got the Big Daddy Platter. Which consisted of ribs, brisket and pulled pork. Along with fries, Cole slaw and garlic bread! OMG. What an amazing taste to all of it. All of the pork was awesome. Great taste. The Cole sale was pretty awesome too. But we kept talking bout how good all the pork was. It was a great first taste of the place under new ownership. Five stars for opening Oct 2020 when many businesses were struggling; for the GORGEOUS view of the Alafia river; for FRIENDLY service; for EXCELLENT barbecue; & for my favorite-- collards! Closed Mondays, hours are Tues thru Thurs 11 AM till 9 PM; Fri & Sat 11 AM till 10 PM; & Sun from 11 AM till 9 PM. I almost turned around trying to get to this one-year-old business. I was directed thru a residential area complete w/ a narrow roadway & speed bumps. Surely, my GPS must be incorrect, I thought. I am SO HAPPY I trekked onward to arrive at the little white & gray wooden building nestled up to the BEAUTIFUL river. The large wooden deck w/ its umbrella-clad tables was so INVITING-- perfect for groups! Unfortunately, no canines are allowed, & there's no beer & wine. (Some beer on the menu might add handsomely to the ambiance.) If it's Barbecue you seek, this is the place to come! Hickory Wood is used to help create the phenomenal flavors. The laminated two-sided menu offers an array of popular foods. (There's also a breakfast menu.) The owner's daughter recommended the wings & the loaded BLT-- see another patron's pic of the massive sandwich! I opted for Smoked Wings ($8.99) & Smoked Pulled Pork ($9.99) w/ a side of flavorful Collards. The meats were OUTSTANDING-- smoked PERFECTLY. Food was ok. The brisket was mostly fatty but had good flavor. The sausage links weren't good. The pulled pork was also good. The greens were very spicy. Fries and tots crispy! Chicken fingers were overcooked and sadly the kids would not eat them. We also had fried green tomatoes and jalapeño poppers. The poppers were good bit the green tomatoes were raw inside. The people who took our food orders were kind and super friendly. We had to order our drinks from the bar- not friendly at all! And had to walk past smokers. We chose to eat on the patio and it was scenic. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY at all. This is more for adults. read more

This is a cool place with outdoor seating right on the Alafia. There seems to only be outdoor seating, but as long as it's not raining that shouldn't be a problem. The food came out fast and was decently priced. Pulled pork in the pulled pork sandwich was a bit dry but came with a selection of bbq sauces. It was also more of chunk pork instead of shredded which is just different, not necessarily a bad thing. Brisket was very moist and tasty, with a good amount of fat. The pork ribs were cold, I mean refrigerated cold. The corn fritters were a ball of dough and had 2 kernels of corn in each. The baked beans smelled old and tasted worse. I would never recommend this restaurant!! read more

This review is based on the quality of takeout because I haven't dined in yet. We're staying at a nearby Airbnb right on the river and two houses down from this place. Previous Airbnb guests mentioned how they had the best burger ever at this place just steps away so of course I had to check it out. I wanted the BBQ smoked wings but were told they were waiting on the next batch to be done in about 30-40 mins. Luckily I had snacks on hand and was willing to wait. I'm so glad I did!!! These might be the juiciest wings I've ever had! The skin was nicely (but not overly) seasoned with a nice snap to it before clear juices squirting out when I bit into it. The small cup of collard greens were good, not over cooked but slightly under salted. Still flavorful, and I prefer under seasoned to too salty or over seasoned anyway. The coleslaw was fresh, and the corn fritters tasted like little donut balls tossed in cinnamon sugar with some corn inside. It came with a melted butter dipping sauce. Oh, and of course also got some sweet tea! Would definitely eat here again and next time will dine in on their outdoor deck overlooking the water (although our Airbnb has one too)! read more

Cute, quaint spot on the river. The drive up was encouraging. Lots of people, music and drinks at the bar just before the adorably placed restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered a brisket platter which included a piece of garlic bread, 2 thick slices of brisket and I ordered an additional side of Mac n cheese. The garlic bread was extremely salty (almost gritty), the portion size of the brisket (pork roast) was good but it was COLD, and FLAVORLESS. The Mac was just prepared so it was runny but did have flavor. All in all I was completely disappointed by this experience and will not be returning. My wife and I went to Jimmy Jo's Bar b Que for the first time and ordered dinner. My wife was accompanied by her service dog in training. There were signs that said no PETS. My wife is blind in one eye and has limited sight in the other one. She uses a walker due to the 25 back surgeries she has been through. This is not an inside restaurant, there are only picnic tables outside to eat at. A young lady from the bar came up and said that the owner didn't allow pets. We informed her that Sadie was a certified service dog in training and offered to show her the paperwork. Sadie was wearing her service dog working vest. It wasn't long until we were informed that if we did not leave they would call the police. We again stated that Sadie was a service animal and if they wanted to call the police please do so. After about 15 minutes, two Hillsborough County deputies arrived. We explained the situation and the officers said that unfortunately if the owner of the property wanted us off for any reason(not necessary because of the dog) then we could be charged with trespass. The officers were VERY nice and we agreed to leave. Needless to say, my wife and I do not recommend this establishment. read more
