How long from ordering to it being ready. Ridiculous.

So, I LOVE JJ'S usually.. The sandwiches are delicious and generally pretty predictable. However, when we have the slogan "FREAKY FAST" and it takes almost 30 mins for ONE sandwich, I am frustrated. When I order from the app (30 mins prior) and it for it to be made ASAP, wait in line to pick it up and a customer in front of me gets their food first, that is frustrating. When a worker asks "Like, did you pay" and another asks if I "need a bag" , but forgets to complete the order and put the chips in the bag, it just amplifies the horrible customer service. Please get it together.

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich

Jimmy John's just opened up in Abilene Texas 4213 Southwest Drive right next to the Payless Shoes. You would thing Abilene had enough sandwich shops but I guess not. Good sandwich about the same amount of meat that you get at a Subway just a few blocks away. Less meat than Jason's Deli down the road. I found Jimmy John's to be a little small and hard to find a seat. People stop a few feet as they enter the restaurant to look up at the menu causing a blockage for other who know what they want (a simple ham & cheese). Worth the stop in to see what it's about. Keep in mind parking is limited like other shops in the area.

Satiating my ferocious hunger.

It all began when a Jimmy Johns delivery man showed up with samples to offer us at our office. I accepted a #1 ham and cheese challenge. Ok, so it wasn't Man vs Food by any means. It's just enough to make you really hungry. As one of their signs state "your mouth isn't watering, it's crying for Jimmy Johns." They had me at hello. Lunch time rolled around and I had to satiate my hunger. Proper and hearty greeting by all the Abilene staff . . .it could have only been better had they all greeted me with British accents. You can't have it all, though. I enjoyed my delicious sammie, chips and drink and I was out and ready to conquer my afternoon.

Delicious sandwich and I'd come back just for that, but not the chips. Even the second bag I got (after bringing back first) was stale.

La Mexicana Meat Market

For those choosing flavor over ambiance, La Mexicana is a clear winner. It's a large grocery store…read morewith a phenomenal butcher in the back. Some of the best cuts of goat and beef that I've ever seen, for a very reasonable price. The shelves were stocked full of various dried chillis, canned foods, rice, fresh fruits and vegetables, and much more. This isn't the reason why I came here though. Walking through the main entrance, an immediate right, takes you straight to the takeout counter. There, behind a class case, is a selection of freshly cooked Mexican food. There's choices of pork, beef, and chicken, cooked in various ways. Lechon, chicharron, carnitas, bistek, and much more, along with rice, beans, etc. I decided on a lechon burrito grande, went to the register to pay, then came back, and was handed my burrito, after my receipt was verified. Then I headed over to the condiments station, and added some onion, cilantro, chopped cabbage with sliced pickled jalapenos, and some green salsa to my burrito. I was quite surprised when I bit into my burrito, but it was just the juicy succulent meat, wrapped in the tortilla. No rice, no beans, nothing else; just meat inside the tortilla. The most authentic Mexican eats that I've had in Texas. I can't wait to come back here. One thing to note, many of the employees on spoke Spanish, and I was the only non-Spanish speaking customer at the time. I had no issues communicating and felt welcomed here.

Something new and different for Abilene. The grocery side is kind of small and not much selection,…read morebut the meat market is big with lots of choices and decent prices. Quite a few pre seasoned meats. Fresh pork rinds which were really GOOD! Small deli up front eat in or to go. I like it.
