Another new casual dining spot across from Aksarben Village on Center. We had at least 20 people and they had it set up and waiting for us. Adults and kids. The kids liked the games. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had a wonderful club sandwich and fries. Fries were cooked perfectly, hot and crispy; I saw a lot of French onion soup, Reubens, spaghetti and meatballs, fried calamari, and on and on. With such a big party, it is a kitchen feat that there were no complaints. Our server did such a great job getting orders right and food delivered hot and tasty. My family was there for our Mom's Celebration of Life. They came from all over the country and we were proud to host them at such a great place. Soup of the day was a chicken/noodle/veggie- very flavorful and warm on a cold day! The mahi- not really sure what to say. Each component was good but it didn't feel like it fit together and wasn't cohesive. Too much sauce so the veggies were hiding underneath it. My daughter is a traveler in the medical field and this is her 3rd time in Omaha so decided to come visit and check it out. She raved about this place so we couldn't wait to give it a try. There were 4 of us and 3 of us started with the French onion soup which was a 10 out of 10! Highly recommend. Hubby had the muffuletta sandwich and he didn't say one word after it arrived until it was gone. That says a lot. Grand had the chicken avocado ciabatta and it was awesome. I had the chicken Caesarand the chicken was so moist it melted in my mouth. We also had a few, (haha) cocktails and they were all excellent. Will definitely be back next time we are up in the Midwest. read more

Stopped in on a cold night for a bowl of French onion soup. I've had it here years ago and did not enjoy it however, with a friend's urging, I gave them another chance. So glad I did. My soup was completely different than the first time I ordered it covered with generous amounts of cheese, piping hot, and the broth very flavorful! I would definitely order it again. I visited on a Friday night. The place was rather busy, but there didn't seem to be a wait for tables. My party was already seated by the time I arrived. Since it was so busy, the restaurant was very loud at the time we were there, the kind of cacophonous noise that makes it hard to carry on a conversation or communicate with our server. This of course is rather common in modern restaurants with high ceilings and concrete floors. The menu has a few vegetarian options, which was nice to see. They also had a special menu with neapolitan pizzas. I take any opportunity to try the neapolitan, so I ordered a Margherita. There were six of us at the table, and everyone's food arrived at different times. There was also some confusion about orders. Two of my friends had ordered black bean burgers. One of them requested no bun. Both burgers came out without a bun, and one of them was brought out without the side. It was all corrected, and I'm sure the mix-ups were just due to them being so busy. My food, however... It took about 20 minutes longer than anyone else's order to arrive, and once it finally did, it was just the saddest, soggiest thing. The crust was under-baked, and an odd consistency. It was thick and soft, really more like a dinner roll than pizza, certainly not a neapolitan. The toppings were soupy and just sliding off each slice, and didn't taste like much. A hint of a smokey aftertaste that also seemed out of place on a pizza. When I brought it up to our server, he offered to have the kitchen heat it up, but at that point we didn't have time to wait any longer as we had to leave for an event. So unfortunately my dinner at Jimi D's ended up being a disappointment. I might still be back and try the Black Bean burger next time. Their fries were really good, and my side salad was decent with the good runny ranch. My dining companions all enjoyed their meals. (Coke establishment, no Coke Zero) read more

Tonight was terrible for me which ordinarily it's not. I ordered the caesar salad with grilled salmon; however, I ended up with hair in my food. I was disgusted and very hungry because it was my one meal of the day. The waiter, I didn't get his name, did offer to make another one, but who wants to eat after experiencing hair in their food? He was pretty flippant about it stating, "Well, I don't make the salads." It could have been his hair because it was about shoulder length and loose. Restaurants really should go back to having food handlers wear hairnets or make sure their hair is pulled up/back. Hair absolutely disgusts me! Needlessto say, I wont be back for a while, if at all, and we frequent often. read more

Every time I come here I wonder why I don't come more often. Happy hour is where it's at! Apps and drinks for a discount, getting in before the mad rush! The soup and salad deal is awesome and I tried the bread salad for the first time this time and I'm obsessed. Always get the French onion soup. But the carrot cake. It's called 'omahas best' for a reason. I can't adequately describe how incredible this cake is. There's a layer of frosting inside as well, it's so moist... just get it. I used to come here a lot with my spouse but not so much since he quit watching football so it's been many years since I've eaten here. For whatever reason I've had a months long craving for their French onion soup and when a friend suggested lunch on a Saturday, Jimi D's was my first thought. We got there shortly after opening and were the first to arrive. We chose one of the cozy booths on the side so we could catch up. I did indeed order my French onion soup, my friend ordered a Reuben with sweet potato fries, and we split an order of artichoke dip. Our server was attentive and friendly. The food was more than enough and reasonably priced (the soup was just $6.99 and a meal in itself). Next time I won't wait so long between visits! read more

Went to Jimmy D's and had a great time there. I went there because it is close to where I live and I always see people eating there, and I was not disappointed. Their food is great as well as their service. I ordered the house burger with fries and a tap beer and it was delicious. It was just what I needed after a long day. This is one of my favorite restaurants. It does so many things right. The menu is very diverse with seafood and vegetarian options. There is a full bar and a nice outdoor patio. The servers are friendly, polite and attentive. I have never experienced bad service at Jimi D's. It is conveniently located near Aksarben with a large parking lot. Shockingly good. I didn't go in expecting much except some safe menu items my kid would enjoy, and I left impressed and wanting to come back. My muffaletta sandwich was awesome, the French onion soup was superlative, my mom's fish and chips were so fresh, and the kids spaghetti and meatball was among the best I've seen. Portions are crazy too, way more than I could reasonably eat in two sittings, for a quite reasonable price. I will say, however, everything is on the pretty salty side. I've been meaning to come here for a year and am SO glad I finally did! It wasn't hard to get a reservation 5 hours in advance despite coming in in a Friday night. The place was still busy though! I asked the servers opinion and she recommended the Cozze which was an amazing meal! Mussels cooked perfectly, spicy sausage, and a great flavor on the pasta sauce. I wish there had been more of it! My only complaint with this meal was a couple small pieces of shells broke into the pasta. Not a big deal but probably something to keep an eye out for when getting this. I've loved Jimi D's for a long time, but never got around to writing a review about them! We dropped in for lunch recently and so I decided it was finally time to show my love When you walk in, the ambiance is very upscale-cafe like with neutral walls and brown-tone floors, but colorful pop-art paintings all around. There's also a fun shuffleboard table and dartboard if you're there with friends and want to play. On quiet days it feels like a corner coffee shop where you sit by the fire and read a good book. On busy days it's more of a business lunch atmosphere. Speaking of, it is a great place for a business lunch, by the way! Onto the food: -We began with a caprese appetizer, which was so refreshing and a great way to start the meal. The tomatoes they use are a little on the thick side, but if you're not a big fan of that, you can just cut them into smaller bites. There is plenty of mozzarella cheese to accommodate that! -My husband got a Caesar salad, and it was good but pretty standard as Caesar salads go. One thing I loved about it though was that there was definitely a good amount of dressing on the salad. They can come a little underdressed at other places I've tried, but that was not the case here. -I got the house soup, which is filled with kale, andouille sausage, and white beans. It's one of the best soups I've had in Omaha. There are little ciabatta bread bits that come with it, and I dip those in the soup - sooooo good. We next ordered ordered our entrees: -We got the the barbecue wings first. The were two options, barbecue and buffalo. These wings were absolutely delicious, with a thin barbecue sauce instead of the thick, gloopy sauce you sometimes see. The order came with quite a few wings, too, so my husband had this as his main entree (with leftovers to boot, since we had a few starters that had started to fill us up). -The star of the show was what I ordered as my entree - the Seared Gnocchi. This is what I usually order at Jimi D's because it's so flavorful and filling - and decadent! It has a style similar to carbonara, with a thin Alfredo-type buttery sauce, peas, and prosciutto over the seared little tasty gnocchi bites. I of course enjoyed this, as it's my usual, but my husband was "blown away" (in his words). Hyperbole or not, he said it's one of the best things he's ever eaten So if you're looking for a great place for a quick lunch, or a nice business dinner location - don't skip Jimi D's! read more

I needed a quick early Di. Er and found my way up Jimi D's, not in Aksarben Village, but in the area across the street. I had a great peach - white sangria and a salad with steak, which was also very nice. The steak was cooked to my level of "done" and the greens were crisp and fresh. We came here on a weekday for lunch. We were in the area and took a chance, so glad we did. They had an excellent selection of salads and sandwiches. I opted for a soup/salad lunch combo. I had the French onion soup with the antipasto salad. Both were amazing and flavorful. The rest of my family had salad too and were just as happy with what they ordered. Even half a salad was large. Ambiance is that of a sports bar and service was pretty good. Our drinks went dry for a bit but they were pretty slammed so I'm not holding it against them. Prices were reasonable for a lunch. Good food, great service, and solid atmosphere. When a place has this many regulars there's usually a reason. I've had the meatball sandwich and the Midway. Both really good but if I had to pick I would go meatball for the sole fact you can't really get one like it anywhere else. French Onion soup is also excellent. The first time I went to Jimi D's was with a couple of friends who frequent here, and from that day, I go to Jimi D's just about every time I am in Askarben. My favorite appetizer is the steamed mussels, but the bruschetta is the second best. My top three entree choices are the following: 1. The Shrimp Fra Diavolo which is a spicy Sunday gravy and jumbo shrimp. I like that it is actually spicy, most places say spicy, but it really doesn't hit the spot. 2. The Chicken Parmesan is one of the few I actually like and it's because the chicken is actually a chicken cutlet. The breading is the perfect amount and of course, the Sunday gravy is delicious. 3. Chicken Picatta is a simple but great dish! I get a house salad with their house dressing as my side. My husband gets their soup of the day. The cocktails are great and we always opt to get a bottle of wine! I have never had a bad cocktail here. The staff is always nice and attentive and the food comes out pretty fast. Have passed Jimi D's countless times and finally stopped in. We ate on the outside patio area, which was comfortable and not loud. I ordered the bean burger with French onion soup. Bookguy had The Midway made with prime rib, pastrami, and cheese. Both had a choice of soup, salad, mostaccioli, or fries. We opted for the alternative side choice which cost a bit more; thus the delicious French onion soup for me and sweet potato fries for Bookguy. My burger was tasty but just a bit dry without the sauce that came on the side. It had greens, pickles, tomato, and onion as toppers. I would get it again. I loved the soup which was not too salty. I also had a Blue Mule with Blueberry Vodka, ginger beer, and lime. It was just okay. Bookguy was very happy with his meal and also liked my soup. He plans to get it next time. It's official -- Jimi D's is one of my two favorite restaurants in town. Cocktails are very well made and priced more than competitively. Generous pour without sacrificing flavor is a skill they have down. Sweet potato fries are out of this world, with a nice chopolte sauce. Soup is fresh and homemade. Main dishes, Trish had linguine and clams, I had chicken piccata. We loved both. Service was also just right, didn't mock me when I asked if the Lancers were playing when in fact it was the Mavericks. Around when necessary but not pesky otherwise.
