It's official -- Jimi D's is one of my two favorite restaurants in town. Cocktails are very well made and priced more than competitively. Generous pour without sacrificing flavor is a skill they have down. Sweet potato fries are out of this world, with a nice chopolte sauce. Soup is fresh and homemade. Main dishes, Trish had linguine and clams, I had chicken piccata. We loved both. Service was also just right, didn't mock me when I asked if the Lancers were playing when in fact it was the Mavericks. Around when necessary but not pesky otherwise. The food at Jimi Ds is some of my favorite. It has the feeling of a nice American style family restaurant for any type of gathering. They also have a nice bar in the middle of the restaurant to catch any games on the go if you need to. They have games for the kiddos as well. My favorite dish is either the Old School Sausage and Peppers with Sweet Potato Fries and a yummy Chipotle sauce or the to die for Mostaccioli with a side Caesar. The service there is phenomenal always on time always asking you what you need and you barely even have to ask if you want a refill on a drink. Nice spot for a meal and drinks! Close enough to Aksarben, but far enough that its usually less packed. Located in a strip mall so always plenty of parking, and they have a nice shaded patio for when the weather permits. My must have when I come here is the gnocchi bites appetizer! Average at best. Have been here 3 times the past few months. First time for happy hour and sat outside. It was fine no complaints. Second time we tried to sit inside and it was so loud - we couldn't stand it and left. Third time - had steak salad, chicken parm and a Philly sandwich. Steak on the salad had no seasoning it was cold - lettuce wilted- and dressing looked water down. Philly was ok. Ate some of the chicken from the chicken parm. I was looking for new places to get fish for my mother. She doesn't eat meat on Fridays. She is still religious after 87 years. So, I went here and I tried the fish tacos. The following week I asked her if she wanted something from this place again. She asked me not to come to this place anymore. When I asked how she liked the fish tacos she asked me, "where was the 'meat'" meaning it had very little fish in it. I decided I would stick to Shucks or Culvers for her fish. read more

Had lunch today. Ordered a Reuben sandwich. Have to say it wasn't the best. Lacked flavor. Told our waitress when asked why I didn't eat it. My daughter ordered Chicken Piccata. It was very good. I was confronted by Jimi D asking what I didn't like about it. I told him and he was so kind about it saying he wanted to know so he could make it better and said he appreciated my feedback You don't find this level of customer service anywhere these days. One wouldn't think that a restaurant in a strip mall would be a really great space, but the patio here is simply outstanding. It is shaded by two large umbrella structures that really do the job. Sitting outside on a nice Fall Nebraska day is one of life's great pleasures. A very tasty salad with an unusual Italian dressing was the opener. I had the Sicilian Muffalata and it was spicy and flavorful. Also a good full portion. The tea was also great and served in an exceptionally clean glass. Ordered fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp opted for the side salad. Garlic toast had little and no seasoning burned black on one side. Fettuccine noodles were cooked adequately but no flavor to the sauce. The shrimp was over cooked and rubbery, even the Caesar dressing for salad was tasteless. Then to add insult to injury we ordered some of the Sunday gravy which wasn't put in bag even though we were charged for it. read more

This was our first time. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with seating both indoor and outdoors. We were seated promptly. Hubs had a hamburger with fries. He said the bun was over charred and the burger was kind of dry. No comment on the fries. My Dad has fish and chips. They could have given more fish and less chips. I had the Italian muffuletta with sweet potato fries and a cup of French onion soup. The soup was the bomb and my favorite! Sweet potato fries came in second. Just a bit too much meat for me but I did have the soup and fries to help fill me up. I would like to come back and try the grilled cheese! read more

Nice spot for drinks and/or a meal. I really like the calamari here. It's some of the best around in my opinion. It's tender and has a nice mild flavor. Last night I tried the french onion soup with a salad and it was really good. The soup had great flavor and was piping hot with bubbly baked cheese. The salad was fresh and ranch was good as well. My husband had the club sandwich and it was also very good. The meat was good quality and didn't have the packaged, over processed consistency I see on a lot of club sandwiches. My daughter had her usual chicken fingers and fries. The fries were good, but the chicken had a little more breading than I prefer. I've been here several times and always enjoy the food, drinks and atmosphere. read more

The best part of the meal was the side of ranch I ordered for my french fries. To be fair, it was REALLY good, house made dressing. Service was also great. It was busy on a Wednesday evening right before a concert at nearby Baxter Arena. This is why we came here. It's almost literally in the backyard of Baxter Arena and I read some good reviews and the website had lots of yummy looking pictures so we parked at the Arena and walked over (a great idea so we didn't have to mess with backed up concert traffic and paid parking). We were greeted as soon as we walked in by one gentlemen, who rushed to get a booth cleaned for us. Then another man, I believe the manager, asked if we'd been taken care of. We were seated quickly, server was prompt, we had drinks before we knew it and just as she topped them off, we were ready to make our order. Even during our meal we had the same two guys stop by and ask if our meal was ok and the manager was holding a pitcher, looking for water glasses to refill. GREAT job on the service. However, we weren't honest when you asked if everything was great. The food was ok. We were hungry so we ate what we could but we were not wowed and in fact, somewhat disappointed. For starters, one of my friends ordered the soup special - tomato basil. She said it tasted like spaghetti sauce. While it did taste like tomato basil soup, it was not creamy nor runny, somewhat thick, so yes, it was really just like a lukewarm bowl of marinara. Another friend ordered the house soup, I believe that's what it was called, and it was really good. The small bowl was overflowing with spicy bits of sausage. It had a nice broth with white beans and kale. Lots of flavor. Now, on to the entrees. I ordered Mostaccioli pasta topped with Jimi D's famous Sunday gravy (a marinara sauce) with meatballs and for my side I ordered French fries (I'm pregnant, don't judge!). The fries were great! Skinny, hot, crispy, yummy fries. The pasta...eh. It is what it says it is - pasta, sauce and meatballs. Bland, basic. I didn't actually care for the flavor of the meatballs at all and the sauce was really missing out on flavor. I'm glad I got those fries though! One of my friends ordered a chicken philly with sweet potato fries. When her sandwich arrived, it was very clear she had received a beef philly (thin sliced ribeye topped with sauteed red pepper, mushroom & onion with melted provolone). Not wanting to wait for another one (we had a concert to attend after all!) she decided to give it a try. She was stopped short by the dryness of the beef, paired with the extra large bread roll and no sauce to add some of that moisture back. I thought the sweet potato fries were good, but as they cooled they lost their luster. She instead helped me devour my heaping portion of french fries. She also really did enjoy her pickle. My brother settled on the House Burger, charbroiled half-pound certified angus beef burger on a toasted sourdough bun. You can add cheese, bacon and mushroom for a $1 for EACH additional item. No biggie, just pointing that out. Of all the menu options, his was the best. It was a huge burger with a thick, fresh patty of beef. It was good, not great, and it too could have used a little more spice to the patty. His friend ordered the Chicken Parmesan, breaded chicken breast, melted mozzarella cheese & Sunday gravy on fettuccine. Much like my dish, hers was soaked in a very bland marinara sauce. The meal did taste like Chicken Parmesan, but it wasn't much better than a frozen boxed version. There was just no flavor! I really wanted to have a great report on Jimi D. A hidden gem next to a concert venue. A local classic you can't miss. But it's not any of those things. Maybe we just all ordered really wrong. Maybe the clientele just really like bland, basic food. I don't know but I don't think I'll be back to Jimi D's any time soon. If you want to grab a bite before a concert at Baxter Arena, within walking distance and don't want to try any of the offerings at nearby Aksarben Village, then dine at Jimi D. It is very convenient, the service is great and the food is definitely edible. Just don't expect to leave saying that was the best meal I ever had. read more

Excellent service by the bar attendant and server's, patty melt & fries were good and promise to try other menu items that caught my attention as well. My husband and I were in town for one night and stayed at a nearby hotel in Aksarban village, we choose Jimi D's because of the excellent reviews and because it was within walking distance from our hotel. Overall, we were completely disappointed and underwhelmed. The food was very average bar food. I ordered the coconut chicken salad, it looked amazing but the chicken was dry, overcooked and the lettuce had too much dressing. My husband had a sandwich which he said was extremely salty and just ok. We did share a French onion soup and it was excellent. Our server was friendly and helpful when we arrived however it got busy and he didn't really check back. Maybe other menu items are better but based on what we ordered I can't recommend this restaurant. read more

Tried to do Italian at Spezia but with a 90 minute wait after 8:00pm we ended up at Jimi D's. We were very surprised how good the food was. The calamari was my least favorite part of the meal, it was over cooked and greasy. The French onion soup was really good, cheese on top, cheese on bottom. Went to Jimi's for the first time between peak lunch and dinner hours for a late lunch and we were one of 3 tables seated. You seat yourself, and I thought that the service was really exceptional today. I do realize I was one of only 3 tables there so that could be why but we were greeted twice upon walking in the door and our server was great, checking on us frequently and filling our waters. The menu includes mostly italian pasta dishes (all your classic favorites in my opinion) for entrees, but also has a wide variety of salads, sandwiches and apps. We settled on the crabcake sandwich and mostaccioli with italian sausage. The sandwich was good, and the pasta was simple but also good. This seems like a restaurant where the food isn't trying to be anything pretentious and is likely always consistent. It had a homely feel, which I liked. The decor and set up did not bother me like it does others in their reviews. I suppose during lunch its clearly more of a restaurant so maybe in the evenings that is when the restaurant/bar vibe is a little strange. I have seen a lot of people dining here in the weekends as I drive by, so I know it is a popular weekend spot. Overall someplace I would be happy to dine at again and try more menu items. read more

Wow! Was this place a pleasant surprise! I was not expecting such a large menu full of unique dishes and old favorites. The food we ordered was delicious and creative. While the atmosphere may be more of a bar/Cafe casual vibe, the food is definitely from a 5 star fancy smancy place! There's room for large groups and with a full bar, no shortage of drinks. Firstly, the restaurant is SO loud! It has lots of windows, cement and nothing to absorb the noise. My pesto salmon and spinach had large chunks of raw garlic, which tasted bitter. Another in our party ordered the fish tacos, they looked disappointing. The patio was decent size, but it was too hot, even the flowers were dead. read more

I really enjoy this place. was super busy when we came in so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was over the top friendly and outgoing. even with a full house he was taking care of all the drink needs and still having a fun conversation with lots of people. Lots of great Italian American food choices on the menu. I ended up with the fettuccine alfredo. The cream was good however I was sad the noodle were overcooked. Cant be an Italian place with soggy way past al dente noodles. Was disappointed with the noodle but the sauce and chicken were very good.
