    6/2026 Opening Menu Sandwiches 1
    Dave A.

OK, third visit (soft open day to now), writing a review. Polish (maxwell style) is a solid sausage with a good snap and mild but good seasoning. They've sonsistently been griddled up well, not overdone. The yellow mustard is mild and adds to, but is not overwhelming. The grilled onions are very mild and soft, they work on this sandwhich but would be a tad overdone anywhere else. The hot pepper is served on the side, not chopped into the onion and griddled. Would be better if there was a "hot" option done that way or some giardiniera (italian vs polish, i know). Pork Chop Sandwhich is solid if you like pork. I love it so having a nicely cooked chop with mild condiment and a soft bun that let's the pork-iness come through was solid. There's something satisfying about eating around a bone too. It's a "soft" sandwhich, and fairly mild with it's simple ingredients so don't think its going to be more that it is. Fries are FREE with sandwiches which makes the overall prices reasonable if you're looking for a meal. They're OK, and are those battered/seasoned type that are supposed to be "extra crispy," but are usually fluffy and barely crispy by the time you eat them. Again, just OK. Italian Ice is a Snowcone in terms of texture. Every time they've been crunchy and chunky as opposed to smooth and evenly mixed in flavor (more like a sorbet or granita). These are a skip.

Went to Jim's for dinner a second time in a weeks span. I'm happy they chose Orange because they've brought something different to our city that's rich in history and diverse in food. First time I tried the polish sausage and it was packed with a lot flavor without being too salty. This time I tried the Italian beef with sweet peppers and that was also very tasty and the au jus they give on the side was piping hot. Dipping the sandwich in the au jus soaks up the flavor bomb and softens the bread giving a nice bite. I tend to like medium spicy level foods and it was well balanced with a kick of spicy. Both items came with a side of fries which was crunchy, delicious and very hot. The fries are definitely a stand out. I would have loved some more onions in the Italian beef and the next time I'm back I'll order it with extra onions. Staff was very pleasant and friendly. My only suggestion would be to possibly install a speaker that works both indoors and outdoors so the staff can call out your name loudly when your order is ready. Both instances I dined in (sat outside my first time and inside my second time) and I did not hear my name called, but both times the staff brought out my food after noticing I most likely didn't hear my name called. Overall great experience and definitely coming back.

Batter Fried cod good flavor portion good. I asked to hold the onions add lettuce tomato and was told this would be extra charge really poor service for new establishments. Asked for extra tartar sauce got it. I didn't get the hot pepper that menu mentioned. Fries were good slightly battered not seasoned tho. I didn't ask for ketchup but got close to 15 packets. What ever I was charged for lettuce tomato barely any lettuce they lost $ with ketchup packets. Drove thru so I can say it looked clean and contemporary ambiance. I will give them one more try after all the proof will be in there doggies

Despite the mixed reviews, I actually really liked Jim's Original. I got the Maxwell Street hot dog and a cheeseburger, and both had really good flavor. The hot dog had that nice snap when you bite into it, and the grilled onions worked really well on both. Each order comes with fries, and honestly the fries were one of my favorite parts. They came out super hot and crispy, exactly how fries should be, and complemented the dog and burger perfectly. There's also plenty of parking, which made the whole visit easy. I'd definitely come back.

    Bone in pork chop sandwich

Second time here and first dining in. It's a small indoor area with a big unshaded patio. The footprint of the lot dictated this. Orders are prepared very quickly and the food is well priced. All sandwiches come with a big order of fries so before a drink your lunch is right around 10 bucks give or take. Speaking of drinks, I see a number of people lost their minds because there were no free water cups. Don't the water obsessed always have a giant water bottle with them at all times? Anyway, they listened and now have a water dispenser and small cups. I had the bone-in pork chop sandwich. Instructions are provided so you don't bite into the bone. It was a delicious chop served Maxwell Street style which means a mix of yellow mustard and lots of lightly grilled onions. I saw some people complaining about the bun being dry. I did notice that at first but was thankful for it as I ain't because the onions and mustard are a wet mix and if there's pineapple bun was steamed it would never stay together. My wife went Old School Chicago having the Chicago style hot dog. It's got all the required ingredients for the style. Let's make it clear: this is a hot dog stand. It is not Napa Rose. Good food, served quickly at a great price. It's that simple.

I'm a firm believer that they're should be just as many hot dog fast food chains as burger chains because, all things being equal, I enjoy hot dogs/beef franks/sausages more than burgers. I always have. I don't know why burger fast food joints outnumber hot dog ones 9:1. I wish we had a place like Ted's here. Jim's Original is a good substitute. It doesn't have quite the variety or the taste of a Ted's, but the two dogs I had were quite good. I think I preferred the Maxwell Street Style over the Chicago Dog. Onions, peppers, and mustard is more my taste at any rate. I even liked the fries a lot, especially when they give you order for free with every sandwich. I thought the customer service was okay. The wait was rather long because they only have the one register. This is the same problem you run into at PCHot Dogs. Even one more register would help. But otherwise my order got to me fast and I had no problems with my order. I thought the dining room and patio was an okay size so the complaints from others is really strange to me. The parking lot one though I agree is very on the nose. It is a small parking lot and the last few spots are in danger of being blocked off if Ty's drive-thru line is rather long. That's a terrible design flaw. All in all, Jim's Original turned out to be okay and a place I'll consider if I'm in the area.

Burger and fries. I do not recommend

I wasn't impressed with this place at all. First the parking lot is tiny. If you are parked in the back you might get stuck because of the drive thru line. The inside is really cramped. Its hard to get your drinks with everyone waiting for their food. The double Chicago dog wasn't bad. I'll get a single next time since the second dog kept falling out of the bun. It did have a nice snap. Fries come with everything but they were a little soggy. The burger was awful. It reminded me of a burger you would get in a school cafeteria. I think I would rather drive up the street to PCH dogs.

I always get excited when my midwest favorites come to the west coast! I had to visit Jim's Original to see if it lived up to memory. It's not a huge menu, but we opted for the The Original (polish sausage) and Italian Beef sandwich. Love how they give you a free side of fries with your order! The polish sausage had a nice snap to it and the caramelized onions and the mustard cut through the fattiness. It also came with a pickled pepper. I got cocky about my spice tolerance and bit through that sucker and nearly died. If you like to live on the edge, by all means eat the pepper. The Italian Beef was just okay. The bread was kind of hard and the au jus (just a quick dip) made it fall apart. The fries were nice and crisp and added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Give this place a try!

I really wanted to like it . As someone who's been to Chicago many many times, I really wanted to like it . The hot dog was over boiled/cooked. It had a weird snap to it. The burger was cold, cheese not melted and when we sat outside (there's no speaker if you sit outside to know when it's ready) the 3 employees stood there and didn't wave or say anything . Though they were super slow and one could have walked over and brought the order or at least opened the patio door to say "your food's ready" all 3 of them stood there staring out the window . You are in the service industry, not cashier industry. I'm giving them 2 stars not 1 because the bathrooms were clean and the fries were good. The other items wouldn't make me come back. A Vienna sausage should be available IMO , if you want to feel Chicago in OC!

Came to check out this new restaurant in the area with some friends, and they have a very convenient drive-thru. The prices are very reasonable, and each sandwich came with a side of fries. It was hard to get a good photo since we got the food to-go, but the Italian beef sandwich came with a lot of meat. The sandwich would've benefited from more of the beef stock/sauce because it was a little dry, but overall flavorful. For a fast food meal, this was great quality.

Good flavor but soggy and hard to hold. Note the tiny cup I used for ice
    Yvonne C.

I thought I'd wait a bit so they could work out the issues before trying it. My husband went and really liked the food so I figured it's time for me to try it. First issue is the layout. Whoever designed this place should've made the indoor seating space larger than the outdoor seating space. The inside was cramped and claustrophobic. I asked for a cup of ice and I was told they didn't have cups for ice. I made do with the tiny Dixi-size cup they had next to the water jug on the counter (that was their solution to the complaints about not having water available). The flavor of my Maxwell Street Style Dog was good, but the bun was so soggy and squished and it fell apart after one bite. Next time (and I will give it another try) I will ask for half the amount of onions. Maybe it won't be so soggy if there's less grilled onions? The fries were good but I'll ask that they be well done-they were tasty but flim flammy. All in all, B-

Polish dog is amazing and full of onions and mustard!

The polish is a hit! According to the owner, the beef sandwich is undergoing a a few tweaks. Can't wait to try it again!!!

Had to try the new spot. Very friendly service. Had the polish dog (signature dish). Good flavor. It's was super hot the day I went. So I sat inside. Not a lot of seating space inside. Nice patio when it's not 100 degrees outside.

Yesterday was what you could call a double flagrant foul. I called in an order for 2 burritos. I arrived a few minutes later, paid and took my receipt with me to a seat near the counter. And so I wait, and wait, and wait. Maybe I was too patient, but I respect that it was busy and likely had a few orders ahead of me. That's 25 minutes turned into 30 minutes. I just decided to see how long they could go without calling me up to the counter. So finally 40 minutes after I placed my order it's the point of which I decided to go up and inquire and of course there it was sitting there, and I told them that I have been sitting at a nearby chair, not very far from the counter and caused me to wonder OK maybe they called my number and I didn't answer so they wonder why a single person has been sitting there near the counter with no food for half an hour I don't know anyway after 40 minutes. I finally got the food and left. You would hope that would be the end of the story but, alas, my sorry tale is not yet finished. As it turned out my practice of eating the Monarch Burrito in thirds turned out to be potentially injury, preventing as I took my third of a burrito and settled down to eat as I opened up my third of a burrito something odd was sticking out. It had an odd color though. Maybe it was a stray pepper or an onion, but it turned out that... There was a METAL WIRE inside a red plastic covering. Happy the wire had no chance to cut the inside of my mouth before I discovered if. I'll spare the boring details of the next several minutes, what's the price to say while I did eventually get my money back for this particular burrito it was a parent that here like many other small local businesses employees are not empowered to truly make things right and make an effort to truly apologize and went back loyalty of the customer. I understand it was an intentional and certainly a very rare occurrence, but despite that I feel that it should be a lesson for businesses and no matter how large or small but when these things happen, it really helps to treat a customer right because bad news always spreads quicker than good news and it's always harder to get a new customer than to retain a longtime existing customer. Am I going to completely ditch Cali Tacos? No, probably not as I have other family members who like this place even more than I do, but I just hope that someone's listening.

Doors wide open so I knew there wouldn't be a/c running during this painful heat wave and I was right. It was hot in there. No one at the counter, so we awkwardly wait for about 4 or 5 minutes that felt a lot longer. Someone pops out, no greeting, like we interrupted them (maybe we did) and we order. I got a grilled cheese and my friend got the burger. He got the combo. When the dude asked if I wanted a drink, I said just a cup for water. He hesitated, then the look on his face looked like he was mad about it. We pay, my friend doesn't leave a tip on the screen because I wanted to tip in cash. And it took forever to get the receipt to the point of my friend saying "it's cool, don't need it". This dude seemed so annoyed by us. He didn't give us our cups so we sat down. He starts making the food. I was like, he's waiting to give us our cups so we get less refills since we only got one soda (just me overthinking, who really knows). When the food was ready, he brings it out to us, which was nice. My friend said, oh our drinks! And stands up. The guy points to the cups next to the register so apparently we were supposed to grab our own cups. The water from the soda fountain was good, didn't have that tap taste. That's a plus. We didn't share the soda, which I felt we were silently being accused of doing. The fries are hot and fresh and were really good. The grilled cheese was nothing special, smashed kinda flat so not super cheesy and pretty much like one your babysitter makes you at home. But that's a good thing so no complaint. My friend said the burger was really good, and the thousand island style sauce was superb- he said it tasted homemade and had a nice kick and took the burger to a higher level. Anyway, it was just an annoying experience that would have been a lot better if the guy showed any sense of friendliness and if he simply said "go ahead and grab your cups". Will I come back? No idea. Maybe not during a heat wave. I'd like to try the burger myself.
