Solid four stars. First, this restaurant is part of an Asian food court on top of 69th street HMart. When I lived in NYC, I would frequent Fort Lee and Little Korea on 32nd street to get my fix. I was able to get bibimbap in a sizzling hot stone bowl, and all the ingredients were super fresh. The only banchan offering was kimchi radish and pickle. My meal also came with a cup of miso soup. There a couple of Korean BBQ restaurants near me in Ardmore but have a limited selection of the hot post stew style dishes which I crave. Before I did monthly bulk Asian grocery haul at H-Mary I had to get my favorite stew- yukgaejang in the food court. The menu has wide variety of stews, noodle soup and bbq. Watching the other orders- all look so delicious. My stew had tender shredded beef, glass noodles and some dried Vegetable roots and mushrooms ( don't know the types- but delicious.) and green onions in a spicy beef broth. Comes with a bowl of rice, Kim chee and a side of the day( this time it was boiled peanuts) I take a scoop of rice in the broth with the big spoon they give you and it is so comforting. I want to try anther stew but I keep ordering yuk gae jang ! Prices are significantly reasonable compared to the sit restaurants I've been in Blue Bell and elsewhere. One floor above the Upper Darby H-Mart, Jian Korean Cuisine sits in the far corner of the food court. There's a sizable menu of classic Korean dishes -- you got your jjigaes, your pancakes, your bokkeumbaps. I stared at the menu for a solid 7 minutes before settling on the Kimchi Dol-Sot (hot stone pot rice). Uh... it's alright. Banchan (side dishes) of radish (aight), miso soup (ok), and pickles with sesame seeds (not today, not ever). The audible crackle of the stone pot was the best part of the meal lowkey. This is one of my go-to Korean spots. It's located on the second floor of the Hmart, in the farthest left-hand corner. Parking can be a hassle during peak times, because the spots in front of the stores is shared, but there's two parking lots across the street. I either get the #28 (LA Gal-Bi) or #32 (Spicy Pork Bulgogi). Both are super flavorful and the spicy pork bulgogi is pretty mild. All dishes here are served with rice, soup, kimchi, and nuts. When you dine in, the entrees are served on a sizzling pan and everything is placed on trays. There are also small styrofoam cups you can get at the counter and refill at one of the water dispensers. If you want sodas, teas, bottled waters, etc. they do serve them in the fridge behind the counter. Most of the dishes are around $10, but some are slightly pricer. All of the dishes fill me up and I even have leftovers. The LA-Gal-Bi is $14 and the Spicy Pork Bulgogi is $10. I would recommend this place if you want to try new Korean dishes, but don't want to waste too much money in case you don't love it. read more

I love this little walk up restaurant on the second floor of HMart. The Yukaejong is my automatic go to meal. This is a one pot, deep red broth, spicy soup, thick with shredded beef, scallions and other veggies. The Yukaejong is spicy, and is literally piping hot. The atmosphere is otherwise no frills. What can I say? I've been influenced! I was on tik tok and seen this tik toker make Dak Dori Tang. She made it look so delicious I decided I had to try it for lunch. I immediately got on UberEats and searched the name of the dish and found this place! The spicy chicken soup was delicious and they gave you so much yummy veggies on the side. The only thing I didn't aware when ordering was that I had to chose my own spice level. I assumed it just came spicy. Luckily me and my friend had bunches of spices at home to make it super spicy without taking away from the flavor too much. Considering how hard it is to get decent Korean food in the city, let alone reasonably priced, I think this place does a good job of trying to strike that balance that only ever happens up in Cheltenham. I usually get either galbitang or whatever jjigae I feel like that day, which rarely ever disappoint me. It's definitely not the "matjib" quality I'm used to from being in Korea for a while, but nevertheless is some of the closest I've gotten to that feeling. I think the only regrettable part about this restaurant is that it's in the food court of a market, which definitely hits the nail on the head as far as complex Korean department stores. About five years ago I use to come to this restaurant frequently. Every two weeks it was my treat for myself, my mother and my youngest son. We all enjoyed the food and look forward to dining each time. In recent years it appears that the management has changed hands several times, changing the taste and quality of the food. I must admit last year I did not dine here often, maybe once every three or four months because the style of food had changed. This is my second time within the last four months it appears a change has been made again. I order the same two items each time I go, Kimchi stew and Korean 'ribs'. Although I have never had an order no matter the management that tasted bad the changes are obvious. Let's start with the kimchi stew. Five years ago the flavor was robust, very hot/spicy and the liquid was heavy, not thick and very red. Over the years and change of management has changed that the soup liquid is now very thin, it's red however not as rich or red as in the past. The flavor is spicy but not hot as kimchi or red pepper paste is known to be. The ribs are plenty but bordering tasteless although they are acceptable when you mix the side dishes with the rice it's a nice hearty meal. There are times when you have to remind the staff to include your kimchi and side dishes as they may think non Koreans may not care for the taste. I have taken my food to go several times and my kimchi was missing. What I can say positively about ordering from this restaurant is, it's a good value for your money. Because Ji An is in a small dining area instead of a restaurant their prices are a lot cheaper. The restaurant is in a mall food court area where you can sit and eat or take your food to go. The food maybe watered down simply because different families cook different ways. But when I want some Korean food I will keep this place in mind especially when it comes to getting more bang for your buck! read more

So by eating here, I have now completed my tour of every place in this food court. Yay, me! Here, I decided to try the omurice. An omelet with fried rice... why the hell not? In my times of coming to this food court, I happened to notice a lot of the regulars here eating this dish. The gentlemen behind the counter tells me it is really popular with the Korean students. Good enough endorsement for me. It's not overly flavorful, but it's well made. Probably not the most adventurous thing to eat here. The Korean lady wasn't as helpful in answering my questions about the menu. Ultimately settled on the la galbi and the pork bulgogi. Both dishes comes with seaweed soup (meh), bean sprouts in some kimchi sauce, and radish/daikon. The la galbi wasn't that great - flavors were somewhat bland. It comes on a sizzling cast iron plate. Stone Pot!! If you come early on a Saturday right about the time they open, there is still a lot of tables open and parking outside. I've had 2 different stone pots here and enjoyed both of them. The first one I had was Squid Stone Pot. The pot was really hot so my rice was a bit crispy - just the way I like it. The rice was still nice and hot up until my very last bit. However, the squid was a bit chewy so it was hard to bit apart. The second one was the Veggie Stone Pot. I really liked everything in this mix, however, the pot was not hot enough this time so the rice was not crispy and cooled pretty quickly. The guy here is super nice and helpful. You can ask him anything about the menu and can tell he knows his stuff. This place is alright. I definitely had better Korean food, but it's nice to stop by here after building up an appetite from shopping at H Mart. I usually get the #2, which is a kimchi tofu soup that comes with rice and two side dishes (banchan). I don't really like the banchan here. It typically comes with kimchi (which is very acidic and taste like kimchi from the jar) and daikon. I personally don't like daikon. Daikon really doesn't taste like anything and is firm like an uncooked potato. How is that appetizing? I have also tried meat dishes here. They are decently priced at ~$10, but it's much cheaper to buy marinated meat at H Mart and cook it at home (H Mart's meat is just as tasty). read more

Split that and one of the dolsots w/ a friend (& grab a king bun from the mandu place, split it in half with a wooden chopstick as an appetizer). The seafood pancake is also pretty satisfying when it rains. They offer some seasonal selections as do some of the other spots in the food court, especially in the summer (season of the cold noodle soups-- look for kongguksu aka cold soybean milk soup but get it earlier in the day as they run out and it's better fresh). read more
