I would give this place 0 star if I could, they have horrible business practices and is a very shady business. I came here at some point over 6 years ago, and recently received a letter (at an old address that thankfully the person still had my contact). It was a bill IMAGINE getting a bill after 6 years of your treatment, I had health insurance of course but at this point it's hard to claim back the money and discuss with my insurance because it was so long ago Not to mention, the bill had a very generic description and I don't even recall ever getting that services. Now I'm getting mail saying I have to pay within 30 days or they will send it to collections, imagine if i never got the mail ... then your credit would be destroyed by simple negligence that this practice has Save yourself the headache, the clinic itself is not good, they didn't solve my problem after coming here for like 2 years and their business practices is even worst. Very bad experience for the recent visit. I want to give Zero star. They never tell you first how much will bill you in front. They took your credit card info first, I only came and ask couple questions I decided don't do it but they still charge you after you left. Specifically the reception service very bad. They don't want to answer your questions, saying like you go every where you have to pay, of course, I have insurance plan, I just wants to know how much will charge on it. He is one of the best dermatologist in NY, but try to avoid seeing him on saturdays, or you'll have to anticipate at least a 1 hour wait. He knows exactly what he's doing, so it doesn't take long for him to give a diagnosis. A lot of patients complain that he doesn't spend as much time as the other dermatologist before giving a diagnosis, but it only take a good derm a second or two to determine what condition he's looking at. So over all, he's a great doctor, that's why you might have to wait for a while to see him on the weekend. Oh, and he moved to a new location on 38th AVe, in Queens Crossing, at room 5H. read more

BEWARE!!!! They initially told me that cyrosurgery (a procedure in which they briefly spray a mist of nitrogen to acne) was covered under my insurance. Six months later, afer six visits with six treatments, they slap me with a bill of $300 (it was originally $600 but they claimed they were doing me a favor by giving me a 50% discount) because my insurance did not cover it. It wasn't covered. Fine. BUT TELL ME AFTER THE FIRST TREATMENT, DON'T TELL ME SIX MONTHS AFTER! This could have very well gone for over a year and I would have been stuck with a bill close to $1000! Due to their poor business practices, I am now out $300 for something they told me was covered. Not only was it not covered at all, they didn't tell me for six months and kept treating me. Bottom line, if you do go there, make sure your insurance covers your procedures. Even if they tell you that something is covered, do NOT take their word. Call your insurance company yourself. Dr cui was much better 10-15 years ago when he was in his old office. He was patient, caring, careful and always able to help what I asked. He used to be my favorite doctor. But ever since few years ago his office moved, he starts with short cut not like the way he used to be. I had a pimple on face and he told me it became a cyst. In the past he would find a way to squeeze out or burn them one by one. But last time I went he just injected me with steroid!!! And left a de on my face half year later! WTH!! This place needs to be audited for all the money they cheated off of insurance companies, government, and of course, patients. Front desk doesn't not know their stuff. Asked for an estimate of the bill for just an office visit and was told it should not be any more than $100, but guess what ?! Was billed for $200. One major complaint is probably my wait time. I made an appointment on Saturday at 11am and had to wait an hour and a half even though I was on time/slightly early. My first impression of him was a little skeptical because when he saw my condition, he only suggested to have it removed/cut out. I had to consistently ask why it was recommended to remove because I don't want to remove something if I don't have to or I wanted to understand the condition better than just saying "remove it." After further pushing, I received a what I thought was a valid explanation of why it was suggested to remove/cut and I felt better at ease on his recommendation. I had previously asked the front desk prior to the surgery day appointment if they think my insurance would cover my procedure and/or if I would have to pay out-of-pocket (I've had other things removed before and never had to pay out-of-pocket, except co-pay). They said since I hadn't reached deductible, I will most likely have to pay out-of-pocket for the surgery. Based on their information, I ended up putting some money into my flexible spending account. On the day of my surgery, they asked if I wanted to pay up front for the surgery. I didn't feel comfortable to pay them for a service I just received when they haven't even gone through insurance yet. I'm glad I asked them not to bill me until after insurance (I had to leave CC info with them and fill out a separate form). Based on my EOB, everything was covered with insurance (which I'm happy about) but the only downside is now I'm stuck with FSA money that I need to find use of in other ways (since they originally said I'd have to pay out-of-pocket). I will admit that it's a very fast paced office because they have so many patients waiting which may hinder the amount of time spent on your case. I would recommend to constantly ask any questions or doubts you have in your mind because when you ask, the doctor will answer it and you won't feel as "rushed" or "pushed" into a decision that you're not comfortable with. The doctor originally said that I could go to work the next day without any problem and I wouldn't need any crutches. However, I'm glad I did the surgery on the weekend (minus the 1.5 hour wait) and pushed for a doctor's note (which I got thankfully) because the surgery was no joke. I was in pain for awhile during the following week (which I thought is to be expected) and I would not know what I would do if I didn't get crutches (although he said I didn't need it). Maybe he was trying the "tough love" approach, however, I'm more of a realist. I don't think I would be able to go to work the next day if I hadn't picked a weekend to do the surgery even though he thought otherwise (I already imagined having to travel to the city after surgery and packed trains, and going up and down a million stairs in the train stations), but I'm also glad I was able to get a doctor's note because I really did need it. I felt that some of the front desk staff could have been friendlier. I could somewhat understand why they are the way they are. They're located in Flushing and have a lot of patients where maybe their understanding is not as clear so they end up being very repetitive and losing patience with those people. However, I'm not a fan of them losing patience with those said other people and then taking it out on me because you just so happen to be the next person waiting to talk to them. Or maybe because of the high volume of patients, that's just the way they are, fast paced and just trying to get through the busy day. Anyway, my overall experience was a rollercoaster and that's why I'm giving it a 3. There was good and bad. I would probably give the nurses 100% because they were very friendly, understanding, patient, and willing to explain things to you in depth which didn't make you feel in as much as a rush (I liked my 2nd nurse better than the 1st nurse I met when I had the consultation). I didn't agree with all the advice the doctor gave me but was glad I was able to push to get the things I needed/wanted to make it work for me. I'm glad I got to see the real Dr Cui and he was the one that did my surgery. I did have to wait half an hour during my follow up appointment when they said it would be a quick in and out, but I'll blame that on myself because I was warned it would be cutting it close to their lunch break. Anyway, my number one tip would probably be to make the earliest weekday appointment (maybe the wait time is better) and don't do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. Two years ago my mother visited Dr. Cui Jian for a regular checkup and he insisted that the beauty mark on her left cheek (about 1 cm in diameter) should be removed. He said there were no signs of cancer but she should remove it for cosmetic purposes. Dr. Cui Jian said it would be $800.00 and would take 20 minutes, and would leave a tiny slit scar no longer than the mark itself. Having had the beauty mark all her life, she contemplated for a couple of years until I recently encouraged her to do it. We walked in, and an associate walked in to ask us what the purpose of our visit was. We told her after carefully considering it for two years (!) we thought, WHY NOT! Live life. 20 minutes! 800 bucks! She laughed and left the room. Dr. Cui Jian came in three minutes later and his first sentence was, "Oh it's been two years! It was $800.00 back then but it's $1200.00 now, also, I think your beauty mark has grown!" We thought he was joking. He explained that $800 would leave a scar TWICE as large as the beauty mark, and $1200 would involved TWO SEPARATE procedures which he recommends for a smaller scar. We asked him what happened to the 20 minute procedure? He said, "Well, your beauty mark has grown, right?" "No. It did NOT GROW." Um no. As her daughter who has known her all my 28 years of my life, I think I would know if that mark changed. And if had GROWN, wouldn't it be dangerous? When we explained to him our decision was made based on the short time it would take for the procedure, and how difficult it was for us because it has been such a big part of her life, all her life-- he looked perplexed and didn't understand it was a life-changing decision. He said this procedure is necessary and the best option for our desire to be beautiful. I'm absolutely appalled and I think it goes without saying that we walked out. He was thoroughly embarrassed and turned red as he tried to defend himself when we put him in his place. Yes. I agree with the other two 1-star reviews. It is very transparent he is only after the money. And money is no object when it comes to health and cosmetology when it is done right with care. Agree with all of the above comments. Please note that now a days, a lot of these MDs utilize PAs to see their patients. If you are lucky, yes, maybe the actual dermatologist will pop in. But in this office, you probably even won't see Jian Cui if you have Medicaid or some other forms of subsidized insurance. No professional manner. I went there for a cyst on my upper eyelid. His staff took me in the room first, when I explained that I am there for the cyst. They are more focus on the freckles on my face, and talked about 30 mins just for the special price they will offer me. The next week when I went there for my stitches removed. I've been hanged there for 1 hr. 30 mins., and the front desk keep telling me because I was late. (I wish i could curse at them). I got there before even the dr. came. And after they took all the new patients, they told me to go in the room. And guess what. I didn't even see the dr. or nurse. It's the lady who works at front desk removed my stitches. I usually see Dr. Yee upstairs in the same building but she was booked. I thought that I would try Dr. Cui since he seems have a nice ofifce. He came in wearing a mask and spent about 10 seconds examining my face. Then he quoted me a price more than twice the price of what Dr. Yee charges for the same procedure. When I asked why there was such a big difference, he responded "we never discuss price, its about the quality of work". Very convenient BS response I thought. He has a way of making awkward comments which makes you feel that he was more concerned about making a buck than treating the patient. He didn't use any medical terms or make any medical reference to my condition, which you would expect a doctor to do. It made me wonder whether he is really a doctor. I walked out very disappointed that I wasted my time. I should have read the reviews on Yelp before seeing Dr Cui. I would have saved myself $80 for the 2 minute consultation. I was surprised but also relieved that others had similar experiences. I notice that the review from Dee C. is the only positive review here. The review seems to be unusually vauge and complimentary. I had an appointment with Dr. Cui today, and I wish I had read the reviews before going. When I walked in, I informed the receptionists that I had an appointment and she rudely told me to just sign in and sit down to wait. When I got in, Dr. Cui walked in with a surgical mask, as everyone has stated. He told me that I would need a shot and a whole bunch of medications that he said without explanations and his PA wrote down. He conveniently left out that the shot was a 'surgical procedure' and that it cost $150. I only found out when I refused it and the nurse quietly asked him if she should remove the $150 fee from the bill. Similarly to others, he was in the room for about 60 - 90 seconds before leaving and telling me to make another appointment to see him in 2 weeks. They are definitely only after your money and very rude! I would suggest looking for a different dermatologist.. read more

Nice office, but that's about it. 2, 3 months ago I started breaking out really badly all over on my neck and face. I went to get it check out. Some other female doctor saw me and immediately told me that what I have is not acne, but Acne Rosacea. The major sign of a Rosacea is your cheeks and nose are extremely/noticeably red. I asked her if it comes all of a sudden she said no, it's always in me. Well over the past 30 years, I never had break out like that, plus I NEVER had Rosacea, my face doesn't really turn red even when it's hot! I told her that, and also told her that this came all of a sudden about 2 months ago, she started being impatient and with a little attitude. Then because she had to write me a prescription, she told me I have to pay $35 extra (on top of the $80 I've already paid, I have no insurance.) None of the other doctors I went to, cash or co-pay, charged extra for writing up a prescription. Is that even right? And she told me that I have to take antibiotic FOR LIFE. REALLY?!!! Though she is the professional one, and I believe what I have is not just acne, but I really question about her diagnosis of Rosacea since the 2 things SHE SAID about it were not what's happening to me. Can I give this place zero stars? I had an appt with the doctor last week and I waited a total of an hr and a half. They had me pay the $35 copay before I even saw the doctor. The other practices had me pay AFTER. The front desk ladies are rude and just there to take your money. I actually waited for the doctor because my mother told me I should see him so I gave him a chance. I had a bad case of impetigo all over my face and wanted a dermatologist's opinion to confirm. After waiting, I was finally called in and they sent me another doctor even though I requested to see him. I stated I wanted to see Dr. Cui. He came in 10 minutes later and the assistant went through with him the medication I was taking. Bactrim and bactroban are pretty common prescribed antibiotics but he didn't know them! The assistant had to explain what they were to him. During his consult, he kept calling me "sweetie" and joking around. That was really annoying since it was unprofessional. He diagnosed me with having herpes even after the assistant and I told him it wasn't painful or tingling. He just took one quick look and didn't explain why he thought it was herpes and not impetigo. I felt like he and the assistant weren't agreeing on treatment methods and the assistant knew he was wrong but can't overstep him. After just a mere 5 minutes, he prescribed me antivirals and told me to keep taking Bactrim and Keflex. He never answered my questions directly and said to do what I felt like. He wasn't detailed oriented and will not listen to you. It seemed so careless. read more

Never come here!!! By far the worst dermatologist place I've ever went to. I've dealt with acne for a lo period of time and honestly was not so for the idea of going to see a dermatologist. My friend recommended me to come to this dermatology place and after careful consideration I decided to go. When I got there I told the doctor " if there's no need to go on medication I would like to not take any" and the lady said " I can't help you then because you need to take medication" and she told me that I needed to go on accutane. I agreed and went through the process and got my blood drawn. I called the office a few days later to ask when I would be taking accutane and the person at the front desk said " we did not prescribe you accutane we prescribed antibiotics for you." I was obviously confused because the dermatologist had never informed me that I was going to take any topical antibiotic creams. I tried to ask the lady for more clarification and she straight up told me " if you are unsatisfied do not come back to our office and don't go pick up the medication." I am shocked by the attitude of the lady at the front desk. Her attitude was unprofessional and straight up nasty. I will never be coming back here ever again read more

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with two of the three reviews for this practitioner. It is true that the transparency of this practice is well founded on the sole purpose of making money from patients. I went on two visits with Dr. Cui, the first time not having seen him after making an appointment because he was too busy, and the second time, for only a total of one whole minute, as he came in, asked me if I wanted any of the cosmetic surgeries that were available (yikes!) and then promptly billed me for the visit. When my father returned from the restroom at that moment, Dr. Cui's entire demeanor changed, and in the presence of my father, he called me little princess in Mandarin. My dad was not fooled by his pretension, and advised me to find another dermatologist in the future. I have gone to other practitioners who were also interested mostly in taking advantage of people's time and money, but Dr. Cui is by far the worst of them all because his mannerisms make his intentions so much more transparent. read more

Yep pretty much agree with the other reviews. I showed up; staff thought is was more important to answer phones rather than deal with a customers standing in front of them for 10 or 15 minutes. I had a "ciapa" referral. (which means nothing to them.) I had a "specialist" referral so I should be charged 55.00 for office visit. Staff insisted that I should either pay 160.00 for the visit or give them 5000.00 via credit card (my Deductable yearly) and then they would gladly only charge me 55.00 (my payment for specialists) If you can find another doctor I would seriously recommend you do so. The administrative staff has been chosen by looks rather than ability. If you like to look at pretty asians administrators then you've come to the right place. If you think this is exactly the situation you would like to be in when you are concerned about whether you have skin cancer then please make an appointment!!! :) Again, obviously this doctor doesn't give a flying ***k if he every read these reviews. Search for other reviews of JIAN CUI on Yelp --you will pull up equally negative reviews of this fraud of a man. Many people get suckered into the nice gleaming office, but wait time is excruciating because the office is out for money and money only. They overbook, leading to wait times of close to 2 hours. And even worse, when it was finally my turn, I spoke with the nurse for 50 seconds, and then Dr. James Cui popped in for exactly 45 seconds of diagnosis, talking with a surgical mask on the whole time. I was outraged; especially given the fact that as I was asking questions, as if on cue, his nurse cut in to answer and he swiftly left the room. To make matters worse, he billed me for surgery, along with the regular check-up! I barely had 2 minutes of discussion with this doctor, mostly with his nurse, and he was going to lie to my insurance and say he performed surgery to collect more money? If you're visiting Dr. Cui for acne, do yourself a favor, visit any other dermatologist that accepts your plan and just ask them to write you a prescription for DORYX 150MG. That's the "secret medicine" those that referred me to him were raving about. Oh please, this is a well-known acne medicine. Give me a break, save me 2 hours of wait time and all this aggravation. Brought my 5 year old daughter in for a minor skin issue, got there on time for the appointment but still waiting for 1.5 hour. No greetings from the Front desk, their office is huge, u think they definitely should have water dispenser for their patients, no. No water, no bathroom for patients at all, you'll have to use the public bathroom on the floor which shared with 8 other medical offices, how disgusting is that. Most of the small medical clinics I've been to have their own bathrooms for patients. They do have their bathroom, but they won't have u use it unless they know they're making big bucks off you. Even before being seen by the doc, the front desk asked me to pay for today's visit, becuz my deductibles. She told me any procedure being done today including tests will be paid for by myself. I told her my daughter is 5, she needs no test, let's see her first before talking about billing. I sensed that the only thing they care about is money, they don't care about you. When you go in to see a doc, you're nervous about your sickness, u want to find out what is wrong first, not being bombarded with questions about paying now before seeing the doc. Dr. Cui jian didn't see us, it was another young doc. If I wasn't too far from the city, we would see a dermatologist in the city. Waited incredibly long to see him even though I had an appointment. Went two separate times for different reasons. When I asked for a medication I knew was working well, he ended up prescribing something I specifically said had absolutely no effect on my skin because I've tried it consistently for the past few years. Not to mention he also gave many refills of this, which would've been a total waste of money for my insurance company had I taken them. The second time, I developed a skin reaction on my ear due to my earring. Now the spot was incredibly small, a droplet of medication would fix it, but he prescribed 3 refills of 2 types of medication. Once again, I had no need for this amount of product for my earlobe. He also pushed me to do some allergy testing exam to determine what I'm allergic to, but that was pretty much unnecessary since I already told him I'll have this type of reaction with most types of material and it only occurs on my ear. He insisted and I did the exam, which involves sticking a large patch with different testing materials on my back for 3 days no showering. The end was inconclusive. I just feel like this place makes you wait a long time, then he rushes when he sees you, then gives you a bunch of unnecessary products (to get more $$ maybe?). Overall, not happy. Never went back after that time and switched dermatologists right away. I'm quite happy with my current dermatologist, who is also based in Flushing. read more

My daughter had something growing on her right ear. We went there a few months ago and waited for more than 3 hours. Mr cui spent like 1 min and sprayed something on my daughter's ear and let us go. The worst thing was that they charged me for more than $120 and told me that they just had a small surgery for my daughter's ear and our insurance didn't cover this kind of surgery. My goood!!!! They didn't tell me before he spraying. Can you believe it? It is not just about the doctor's skills, it is about the medical ethics. I really hope that some government organization can do something about it. And now, the little thing on my daughter's ear is still there and I have to find some really good doctors. I didn't even see the doctor and only spoke to the nurse for 2 seconds and they took my co payment of fifty dollars without giving me a receipt. The office is a disgrace because their only concern is profit. I heard the complaints, but thought that his medical skill would somehow compensate. I was wrong and had a horrible experience. Dr. Cui Jian (also known as James J. Cui) is a con artist, instead of dermatologist. I have been cheated $3,000.00 from his one-time treatment which has never worked. In fact, after his treatment, I have gone to a nearby dermatologist to get a second opinion and received the documents proving that the service provided by Dr. Cui was not as advertised.
