I really enjoy coming to this cafe bar at the Fairmont Yvr airport. There is nice seating that overlooks the airplanes. They seeeve breakfast, afternoon tea & lunch/dinner. The view is similar to what you would get at the Fairmont gold lounge. Their tea is always great quality and the wait staff are attentive. You also get Accor reward points! Nice place to unwind before and after a flight.

Lettuce Wraps - Look at all that chicken in the bowl.

After a cancelled flight I ended up at the Fairmont. I had been to this Fairmont previously and to the Jetside Bar previously. Firstly the view from the bar is spectacular. If you can, get a table by the windows. The bar looks out over the airport (US departures area) and in the background are the mountains. The view is spectacular, but the inside of the Jetside Bar is equally impressive. There are fireplaces and even though they try to give it a cozy feel, it has a ton of glass and wide open spaces that make it very modern feeling. The bar itself is very cool with plenty of glass. Upon coming in, I took a table and almost immediately the server was at my table. I didn't feel like having a drink and needed to have some food. I went with the Lettuce Wraps as an option to try to be healthier. The server had warned me that there was a bit of spice to the Lettuce Wraps. The food was on my table in no time and the presentation was very interesting. a half a head of lettuce and a bowl with Chicken. The menu indicated it came with water chestnuts and cashews. I had lettuce wraps in other places and usually you get some bits of chicken with mostly some slaw... Not here. It was almost exclusively chicken in the bowl with a few cashews and a few water chestnuts. 2 small sprigs of cilantro on top. The Lettuce was nice and crispy and the chicken had some spice to it. Very tasty ! Overall, the service was great in the Jetside bar, the place was quite busy but my server came by often to fill my water and to check on me. The food was very good and of course the views are fantastic. The bar did have some live entertainment and although it wasn't necessarily to my liking, I thought he was good. If you have a few hours to kill in YVR, this is a fantastic spot. Highly recommend it.

How many hotel bar and restaurants have you been to where the food is actually memorable? Well, if you've been to the Jetside Bar, you'll at least have one under your belt. This is a big swanky (but not stuff) bar and cocktail lounge. It overlooks the tarmac at Vancouver's airport. I hate to say it, but the best nights are when it's raining out... big roaring fireplaces and live music seven days a week... really get you into the mood for a night of celebration. I started with a nice martini, big juicy olives. Next, Caesar salad with house made dressing... delicious. I follow with the spicy scallops and shrimp. Seafood was cooked perfectly, I could have done with a touch more heat, but it was excellent. I finished with a mascarpone mousse. I wanted it to go... but my excellent server, Marcia insisted I take the plated dessert to my room because their in-house pastry department are top notch and the plating was beautiful. The service at any Fairmont from the front desk to the servers are always the best. With places like this you'll actually look forward to coming to the airport.

Picture this: Massive storm, many flights delayed. So delayed that they aren't letting you check in and clear through security until you have a confirmed flight - so no access to the airline lounges which are all after security. Add a bunch of crazy tourists that are all stressed out about the delays that are camping out everywhere with all seats taken, and no place to get a little peace of mind while waiting out the delay. Don't want to turn around and go home because it probably will clear, but it just isn't clear when. The last time this happened to me during a bad storm, I snuck away to one of my favourite secret spots in the Vancouver Airport - the Jetside Bar. Here is how to get there: Walk to the U.S. departures check-in area. Find the little escalator that says "Fairmont" and walk through the Fairmont Vancouver Airport lobby to the Jetside Bar. This is a little oasis in the pre-security area that not too many people seem to find. They've got nice big comfortable chairs, views of the runways, and a passable bar menu for an airport lounge. But most importantly: It wasn't crowded and was pleasantly calm. A welcome eye in the storm! Ahhhhh......Thank you Fairmont!

She asked for our boarding passes and, after scanning them, immediately told us we couldn't enter because our tickets were not business class. We were confused because we believed we could enter using our AMEX card. However, she quickly dismissed us without explaining any other access options. It wasn't until the male clerk stepped in that we were shown which credit cards were eligible for lounge entry (such as Aeroplan metal cards). While looking at the list, my husband noticed the Chase Sapphire Reserve card -- the last card displayed -- which we have. Only then were we allowed to enter. Unfortunately, the service from the female check-in clerk left a very poor impression. She showed no customer service etiquette, seemed quick to judge that we wouldn't qualify for entry, and offered no effort to help clarify the lounge access options. Her attitude came across as pretentious, as if we didn't belong there. Not the kind of service you want to receive after a 15 hour flight.. To make matters worse, the lounge itself was mediocre. The food was cold and the selection was quite limited.

I will say, although I was glad to have it, this lounge did not impress as while I was finally able to find a charging station at the very very back bar seating area that had powered outlets (right side as you enter), the office room was locked, and almost all the chairs were missing plugs. The single one I found between two chairs didn't work. The elevator which takes you there has definitely seen better days but I was able to sit in the lounge and charge a bit before boarding, so overall three stars.

Unfortunately, this one didn't quite measure up. The overall experience felt a bit underwhelming. The space itself could definitely use some TLC -- the furniture looked worn and dated, and it gave off more of a tired, well-used vibe rather than a relaxing pre-flight retreat. One of the bigger misses for me was the lack of accessible power outlets, which is something you really come to rely on when traveling. That said, it wasn't a terrible stop -- just not quite what I've come to expect from premium lounge experiences (as its name would imply). With a refresh and a few updates, it could easily be brought back up to par. For now, it's serviceable, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to revisit.

I saw one that looked like a little cafe and there was no chance I was going to waste it there. After walking a bit I stumbled upon this one, walked a little further and didn't see another one so came here to kill a little bit of time. When I went to check in, I was told that I couldn't be here for more than 2 hours. I don't ever recall being told this in Asia at the Plaza lounges but that was fine. I checked in, took the elevator up and looked around. The area is actually pretty spacious but it's not obvious as there are a few different areas. The thing is, I think there was more people upstairs than there was areas to sit. I went to get a coffee and checked out what they were serving. They were serving breakfast but they were transitioning to lunch so I waited a little longer as the eggs, bacon and other items didn't look that great. When they rolled over the food items, I grabbed a plate of a few lunch items to sample. I had to walk around the area 2 or 3 times to finally find an open seat. I sat down and tried the plate I just put together. It was OK, nothing really stood out from it. They also offered some free drinks. I didn't really pay to much attention to it as I was satisfied with my coffee. There were a few TVs and there was a nice view overlooking the airport. The lounge looks a bit well used as some of the items look like it could use a refresh. Not the worst lounge but definitely nowhere as nice as some of the ones I've been to in the last couple of years.

We waited for 30 minutes, then once we realized our flight was boarding in 15 minutes, I went to the counter to inquire. The cashier asked a woman in the back, who claimed she had already given me a chicken burger. Wut? Told her I did not receive a chicken burger, plus I ordered a BLT and still had the ticket in my hand. She finally made it and brought it out 5 minutes later. BLT was the worst Ive ever had, maybe even the worst *sandwich* I've ever had. Zero mayo, uneven distribution of lettuce, tomato, and bacon, and not enough bacon to make a sandwich (maybe two strips in total). Imagine two pieces of dry toast - that's what the sandwich was, except for the very middle where the slice of tomato, leaf of lettuce, and two small strips of bacon had been hastily strewn. You ever had one of those gas station sandwiches for $4? That's what this was, except it cost $13. I realize this is an airport, but I travel all the time, and this is hands down the biggest ripoff I've ever had at an airport. I should've hit up A&W on my way there, would have spend half the cash and had 10 times better food.
