It was the perfect setup to book a movie across the street and have a reservation laid out ahead of time here. We were seated upstairs, which had a cute tavern vibe complete with pop music playing and sports on the TVs. I started off with a Haymarket Honey Ale, which was very light with a delicious yeasty aftertaste. Once we put our food order in, it took just 5 minutes for the cheese corners to arrive. They came out shaped like triangle nuggets with a light golden crust and a wet marinara on the side. They didn't look super impressive at first glance, but as soon as you bite into one, the cheese pull is impressive and tastes great--like a thicker, elevated mozzarella stick! About 30 minutes after ordering, the main event arrived: a deep dish pizza with sausage, mushroom, and giardiniera (Note: I was told that sometimes it can take a long time for the cook so just be mindful in case you come through starving.) The crust was buttery with crispy bits, a little doughy, and those legendary caramelized, charred edges were absolute perfection--the real star of the show that felt like a total hug in my mouth! The sausage was so good, with a cook that mirrored the crust with just a slight crisp edge, while the giardiniera added a nice touch of acidity to balance out the fat. The toppings were evenly spread, and after two slices of a large pie, I was completely stuffed. As a new resident, this was my very first Chicago deep dish experience, and I very much enjoyed it. Pequod's completely lived up to the hype for me!

My interest in visiting Pequod's Pizza came after watching LATRYGUY, a foodie YouTuber I have been…read morefollowing lately. As a fellow foodie, I am always looking for new spots to try--whether they are in Chicago, the surrounding Chicagoland area, or outside the state of Illinois. I honestly feel as though you cannot order from Pequod's and not get a pan pizza! Pan pizza is the entire essence of Pequod's; in my opinion, it is almost a crime not to order it. I ended up ordering their 7" personal pan pizza for lunch on a day when I was craving either pizza or pho. Whether using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online for the convenience and the ability to schedule a pickup time. Most of the time, my orders are ready--or nearly ready--upon arrival. By the time I reached the restaurant, my order was almost finished. If you are someone who orders online as faithfully as I do, just keep an eye on the tracker for the notification that your food is ready. Because of this smooth experience, the likelihood of me ordering online from this location again is very high. I will warn you: if you are driving to this location, the curb sits high outside the storefront, so be mindful of that if you have a smaller vehicle. Parking is pay-to-park and shared by other businesses along Clybourn Ave. Remember to give yourself plenty of space when parallel parking; it can get tight since this restaurant has a consistent flow of customers moving in and out. During my brief visit, I noticed customers either carpooling or being dropped off, which I highly recommend if you plan on visiting this Pequod's location. Now, as for my food! "A cute little pan pizza," was my first thought after receiving the box from the employee. It was so adorable that looking at the box made me almost regret not ordering a larger size. However, its actual appearance took me by surprise once I opened it. After unwrapping the pizza from the aluminum foil, I saw its charred, caramelized cheese ring around the edge, a heavy crushed-tomato and herb sauce on top, and a stringy mozzarella pull in the center that was sticking to the foil. That sight alone made me salivate in anticipation of my first bite. I brought out gloves for this because I didn't dine in. Instead, I just pulled into a park and enjoyed this "cute little pan pizza" from Pequod's, which tasted incredible! The rich, tangy tomato sauce packed a serious punch that made me smile with enjoyment as I carefully avoided getting it on my hospital scrubs. Don't be deceived by the look of those charred edges, either--they are completely edible and delicious! You don't need to worry even if you have sensitive teeth. After finishing the last bite, I wiped my mouth and declared, "That was good!". If you are like me in search for something light, then I highly recommend their 7" personal pan pizza because it will leave you satisfied. In closing, I had a great ordering experience, as indicated in my review of Pequod's Pizza. Thanks to LATRYGUY for bringing this to my attention; I am happy to share my endorsement of this business with the Yelp community. I also want to point out that I am connected to 13 quality Yelpers who have already shared their excellent feedback about this location. The fries were fried nicely and it was quite delicious and both were good portions. We ordered the smallest deep dish pizza size. I think it was called meat on meat. When we got it it looked cool but there was not a lot of meat on it to be honest. The cheese was stretchy but maybe it was just that day or pizza, the dough was very thicky and gooey like. Either it was underbaked or there was a lot of liquid so it made the dough filling and unappetizing. They also sold merch and the restaurant was red and it had an oldie style which was cool and unique!

We ended up doing a walk-in on a Sunday night and showed up at 8 PM one hour before close. This worked out for us because we got a really good seat after only waiting for 20 minutes. Service is good and timely- the hostess was super kind and helpful. We started with some cocktails- a Negroni & a spritz (both were good & pretty strong). Then we split the Caesar salad and a pizza with half sausage/olive and mushroom/onion. Yeah, the pizza did blow me away- the crust is perfectly crunchy and so so thin. I wouldn't even describe it as traditional tavern style pizza because I think it's a really crunchy crust- but it's definitely wayyyyy better than Dimi Dimi (that's the most comparable crust imo). The sauce has a slight spice to it, and the whole pizza just feels very layered in terms of flavorful profile. The sausage was also spicy but very good and I absolutely loved the mushroom and onion duo. Sometimes when you go to a certain pizza places, it doesn't feel worth it, but all the ingredients felt elevated here and the pizza had an elevated taste. The Caesar salad had a nice light dressing and a ton of cheese. I wish that the lettuce had a bit more of a crunch to it, but they seemed to use butter lettuce. The inside feels like a classic Italian joint, but it's very small and simple Overall, so glad that I finally went and although it's not a place that I would go regularly because I live far, I would definitely come back!

Unfortunately, our most recent visit left me disappointed. We came in around 1:00 on a Sunday on a beautiful day, so we expected it to be busy. We ordered everything at once--two pizzas and a salad--knowing that service can take a little longer. The bartender was also serving most of the tables in our section. The salad came out right away, followed by our first pizza. We then waited another 30 minutes for the second pizza. Our server checked in and told us it was coming, and later let us know that she had spoken with the manager and that there had been an issue in the kitchen. Finally, the manager brought out our pizza and said, "I heard you waited a long time for this." What was disappointing was that there was no apology or any real acknowledgment beyond that, and no attempt to make up for the experience in any way. The wait itself really wasn't the problem. (Though it was awkward that one person in our party watched us eat while waiting for his pizza to arrive). We've been coming here for years, and we've always been willing to wait because we love the food. It was the lack of an apology or meaningful acknowledgment that bothered me. As longtime, consistent customers, we expected a little more when something went wrong. I still love the pizza, which honestly makes this experience even more disappointing. I hope this was just an isolated experience, because I'd really like to continue considering Robert's one of our Chicago favorites. Sadly I don't think we will be back.

A heavy started but so good you have to try them. - Fried zucchini chips (3/5): Not my favorite breading but not bad. The aioli is unique. - Kale caesar salad (2/5): Not a bad salad, just not my favorite. I prefer a creamy, classic caesar dressing and this one is a vinaigrette-style! Perfect sauce, extremely tender and juicy chicken breast. Thickness was ideal. Everything about this was so good, and it paired pretty well with our vodka pasta. - Vodka pasta (5/5): LOVE the pasta shape for this sauce. Had a little kick to it (as it should). I couldn't stop eating this. Generous portion as well - ideal for sharing.
