My wife and I have been trying to visit this place for a year now after passing by on a trip. Unfortunately, our schedules just didn't work with theirs for a while. Looking through some of this place's reviews here on Yelp, I see that some of their non-Jewish customers would not understand why our schedule would not work with this place's considering some of the other reviewers do not understand why this place closes so early on Friday night through Saturday. You see Jerusalem Pizza has Kosher certification. They post the certificate prominently on the wall for all to see. That means several things. It means that this place follows kashrut (Jewish culinary laws). The culinary law that meat and dairy is not to be mixed together is why the place is vegetarian. However, the part that some reviewers seem to not understand is that the laws of kashrut which Kosher restaurants like Jerusalem Pizza must follow in order to keep their certification requires that they not be open for Shabbot (Shabbos or Sabbath). Shabbot starts on Friday evening at sundown and goes until sundown on Saturday night. Places that have Kosher certification usually close a bit earlier than sundown in order to give their workers time to clean up the place, close, make it home in time to change their clothing and time to walk to Esnoga (Shul, Synagogue or Temple). This place cannot be open during Shabbot or Jewish holidays, or they will lose their Kosher certification. And considering how many of their customers are observant Jews, it is important for Jerusalem Pizza to retain its Kosher certification in order to be able to serve its predominant customer base. That being said, it took a year for my schedule to give me enough time off on the right days to be able to stop in here. Now that I am done preaching, I will get onto the review. I apologize for getting preachy. Walking into the door, you see that the place is clean and organized. It is small, but it is a cozy kind of small. Despite how cozy, small it is, they have a few tables where you can eat inside. They have an extremely cheerful, friendly young woman at the counter politely greeting people as they come in and taking their orders. She is a jewel of an employee whom should be treasured by her employer as she is good at her job. Their menu gives you a number of pizza menu options that you don't normally get at most pizza places. For those whom absolutely want to have meat on their pizza, they have vegetarian versions of meat ingredients that you can have put on your pizza. They have a wide variety of menu selections for vegetarians to chose from. And unlike some places which has "vegetarian" selections, they understand that vegetarian does not mean bland. Their vegetarian pizza has flavor. In fact, it has enough flavor that you really don't need the meat substitutes nor meat. For our pizza selection, my wife and I chose their large Sephardic Pizza. It came with a thin crust that was perfect. It had the right crispness to the bottom that other pizza places get wrong. Some places get the thin crust so crisp that it is like having pizza sauce and toppings on a cracker, or they get the crust soggy and greasy. This place's oven uses flame to cook the pizza. They get the right crispness and texture combined with a lightness to the crust. The tomato sauce had just the right kind of spice and sweetness to it. It wasn't too sweet. It wasn't too spicy. It had a nice amount of cheese to it. Not too much, not too little. And the baked eggplant, tomato, cucumber, red onion, olive oil and Italian seasoning was just right. All of the vegetable toppings were chopped finely; so, everything was cooked and easily eaten. And the flavor was complex and good enough that we ended up eating the whole pizza before we knew it. We chose the Sephardic pizza due to my heritage, and I would say that this pizza did it justice. It was a great pizza. I highly recommend this place, if someone is vegetarian and looking for a great pizza. I recommend this place, if someone wants to keep Kosher. And I most especially recommend this place, If you want a really good pizza. Shalom, y'all. read more

We heard Detroit is famous for pizza. Visiting from California we had great expectations... Boy! We were in for an extreme letdown! We ordered a cheese pizza, well done - we got instead a doughy pizza not even cooked to perfection and no where close to crispy and just an oily mess. The Greek style was not bad but not memorable. I guess the locals think its A + as there really isn't anything around that they can go to instead. Even I can make a better pizza at home and ensure crispy pizza! The customer service is horrible I don't know if it is because I'm not Jewish and I'm African-American they burnt my pizza and then when I told the manager that my pizza was burnt he looked at it and said it doesn't look burnt to me I said well I think it is burnt and can you make me another one he grab my pizza from me with an attitude and said you're just going to waste a five dollar pizza and then proceeded to say well you can just give me my money back and he put my money on the counter came out and was looking at me meaning when I was talking to one of my family members and said something under his breath and then went back in there he was a Jewish guy himself I don't know but I will never go back very Racist read more

As a vegetarian, usually menus are very limiting. So I was super excited when I looked at this menu and I could pretty much eat EVERYTHING! They have fake pepperoni, chicken, sausage, etc. and it was soooo good and reasonably priced :) read more

I think every time I go to an event, we have Jerusalem Pizza. So that means at least 2 times a month or so. I like this pizza because they make almost any pizza you can imagine. They have an imitation for everything! Anyone should get this pizza, especially if you don't keep Kosher. If you feel like stopping in a trying something new, you should do so! read more

Pretty good food. I was craving fish n chips, but they were like salmon croquets. Love the vegan options. Salad (Greek) was pretty cool. Nicely priced food for a family. One of the strangest (and most vegetarian friendly) pizza menus in all of metro Detroit. The biggest problem with this place? They observe Shabbat. That means no pizza on Friday night or Saturday. I've never had a major problem with the food at Jerusalem Pizza, but the service today merited this posting. My wife ordered four dozen sliced bagels. I come at 11:30 a.m. to pick them up, and they're not sliced. They tell me it's lunchtime and they can't slice them until 3. I say okay, go home, tell my wife, and she tells me she specifically mentioned it twice that she wanted them sliced. I go back at three. They give me the bagels. I pick one out of the bag, and it's not sliced. The clerk asked someone in the back if they were sliced, and the person in the back says "yes." I'm still holding the unsliced bagel. The clerk says to me something to the effect of, "If you had said asked for them to be sliced when you called in the order, we would have done it." I say, " My wife told you twice to slice them. How many times do we have to ask - three?" The clerk says, "All you have to ask is once." I say, "Then maybe she asked one time too many?" The clerk says, "Maybe she didn't ask at all." Biggest draw for this restaurant is the fun menu. Even though we didn't order any of the "unique" items like Alaskan pizza or cholent pizza, we enjoyed reading all those choices. I liked that they offers the very affordable personal size pizza. I personally like a thicker crust, but for a thinner crust this was pretty good. The cheese "sticks" were huge - great value and delicious. The service was very friendly. Why does the community put up with this kind of place? While the pizza was decent, the salad was horrible. 10 dollars for some brown iceberg lettuce... We asked for some of the toppings on the side and got 4 chick peas, 5 pieces of an olive and some onions. We are from NY in Detroit for a weekend and tried this place. We ordered 3 different personal pies and we each loved them. Just a disappointment that we ordered to eat in since we were en-rout and they packed up our pizza boxes and told us to leave the store because they were closing. They are officially open till 1 on Fridays we arrived 12:40 and we ended up eating in the car while parked outside the store and people are still walking in and out. I find that inconsiderate. Came here today for the first time. A little, and I do mean little, vegetarian pizza/sandwich shop in Southfield. Met with a supplier of mine who was familiar with the place and made the recommendation. When we walked up to the counter a very friendly energetic young lady greeted us so pleasantly and with such a fun, joking familiarly I thought she knew my associate. Come to find out that's just her friendly nature! We shared a personal pizza and a tuna sandwich on one of their specialty buns and both were very very good. The sandwich bun and all its ingredients were fresh and crisp. The pizza crust has a nice bottom crunch and tender texture and was I thought the absolute the right thickness. I'm not much of a red sauce fan but I thought their pizza sauce was a very very good. Overall my experience was great! I realize I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars but that's only because I tried such a small portion of their menu. I truly, highly recommend this place! Seating is very limited however so anticipate getting your goods to go if you go during rush hour. read more
