Extremely clean. They take much pride in cleanliness, that scored major points with me. El Turpial appears to be a mom-and-pop family-run restaurant, that has plenty of room for indoor dining, as well as a variety of to-go options. Wanting to come to support local businesses, I figured I'd give this a try. Plus the pictures of the food had my mouth watering The staff was friendly and helpful, and explained the menu to me. I had the chicken empanadas which were delicious. They had a tasty, slightly sweet taste on the outside, and on the inside the chicken was juicy, packed with flavor, and the melted cheese had an amazing savory, tangy flavor that practically melts in your mouth. I then indulged into the pastrami sandwich, which just smacked of deliciousness. Reminded me of something I could get in New York City. The bread had a great chew, firmness, and fresh baked taste. The pastrami was premium quality, and everything they put on it was perfect. And it was huge! I didn't want to eat too much, but I couldn't stop because it was so delicious! I love this place, and plan on returning next time I'm in Ashtabula to try some more Puerto Rican dishes! Wonderful!

"Since You've Been Gone" Sandwich - A Masterpiece!…read more If you're anywhere near Ashtabula and you haven't tried Fire! Chicken yet, you're missing out on a culinary experience that will absolutely change your life. I stopped in for their flash special, "Since You've Been Gone" ($14)--fried (or grilled) chicken, housemade deli roast beef, RB sauce, horseradish, and liquid cheddar--and I can't stop thinking about it. Pro tip: Add bacon. Trust me, it transforms this already mind-blowing sandwich into the best alternative to a turducken you'll ever find at a chicken shack. I paired mine with their fried pickles as a side, and it was the perfect complement to an already perfect meal. The magic is in the details. They nailed the ratios--nothing was overpowering, not even the horseradish, which is notoriously tricky to balance. Every sauce added to the sandwich's bold and unique flavor profile without competing for attention. And the textures? Unreal. Juicy chicken, crunchy breading, soft and warm bun--it was a symphony of flavors and textures in every bite. And those fried pickles? Game-changing. They brought just the right amount of tangy vinegar and a hint of garlic while doubling as the perfect mop for any extra sauce. Shoutout to the team: * Chicken Daddy? Playing 4d chess with this recipe. * The cook? Clearly working magic in the kitchen. * My waitress? On top of her game with quick refills and great service. This special gets a 10/10. Don't sleep on it. Get in here and treat yourself--you'll thank me later! What do you think? I'm just hoping next year we'll be able to look back on this as the first year of a new Yule-time tradition!

A lot of people in the party had to use their flashlights on their phones to even see. (It made a lot of us think the lights are dark to not show the food, or so people can get away with doing illegal activities.) Second; the food was subpar, claimed things were fresh when they clearly were not. Soda either didn't have enough flavor, or the machine was broken; everyone was saying how the soda tasted 'soapy'. Also being charged $12+ for small portions, barely any toppings/fillings, or for food that seemed undercooked/burnt. Someone in the party even had a hair in their food! The next couple days, almost everyone in the party started getting sick; not trying to full on blame this place, but it was the common denominator everyone went to. So, if you enjoy not seeing at all and like eating subpar bar food that can potentially get you sick, this is the place for you!

They offer breakfast until 12:45. My only con would be the cleanliness - could have been a tad better. The room we were seated in could use some updates. The smell of the diner was a little off putting- kind of grungy and smelled like maybe the fryer grease needs to be changed. The booth seats are all cloth so I feel like maybe it traps smells and there's no door on the kitchen / service area so I think it may be coming from there. We specifically stopped on a road trip because the reviews were the best for the area we were in. Easy access to the interstate.
