We were heading from Cleveland to Niagara Falls and got off an exit to get some lunch. We didn't see much so we decided to head to Ashtabula to eat. It was bit out of the way but we enjoyed the drive. We saw the sign for Dublin Down Irish Pub and decided to stop in. It is a rather dark building more like a pub atmosphere. I am not sure why it bills itself as an Irish pub as there were very few Irish dishes. Based on our server's recommendation we ordered the Celtic Burger which was topped with bacon, cheddar, lettuce, and tomato. We had her bring the curry mayo on the side instead of on the burger. The burger was really good as were the accompanying fries. We also got the small salad with crispy chicken. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. The chicken was well cooked. We also got a slice of delicious homemade peanut butter pie to go.

Not a ton of Irish beers, so opting for this

Nice find on a Main Street, which has seen better days I'm sure. Free street parking and it looks like it may have outdoor seating for warmer days. I came to try the Rueben which was decent. I like mine with some hot sauce, but they apparently did not have any. The fries are not fresh cut, but are beer battered and tasty. They didn't really have many other items I'd associate with Irish food. They have a few Irish beverages, but sort of was hoping for a better selection.

Awesome food and service. Truly a hidden gem of the area. Has the best Dagwood Club sandwich EVER!!! I'm not one to ever boast on a club sandwich cause they are what they are but this gigantic piece of art was so amazing and delicious I was stuffed. The fries were perfectly cooked with a crisp coating and soft middle. I will keep them on my return to list for sure. End of a great day with spectacular food!!!

This place is more then just a restaurant, it has a cool little bar and out door atmosphere. They always do special events for holidays and big sporting events. I have went here a ton, and have a bunch of food recommendations. The pizza is great! The Subs are enough for two people, the Reuben fries enough said!!!

Now under the name 'Hogwallops'. Decided to check it out with friends after the Downtown Ashtabula Christmas parade. They had ordered by the time we decided to join so I didn't get to look at the menu- it is a very small menu as of right now I do know that. We had a large pepperoni pizza and OMG it was amazing! They cheese to crust ratio was fantastic! I could eat this pizza every day! They are open Wednesday- Saturday 4:30 PM - 2:30 AM.

Great atmosphere and very good food! Fine variety in the menu. Need to encourage getting Guinness on draft!

We went on a Saturday evening around 5pm and ordered…read more cocktails and wings. I've seen other reviews about the wings being too crispy but I thought they were great! I want them to be crispy on the outside with a mouthful of chicken in each bite and they were just that. The lemon pepper sauce was very salty, but I love salt and vinegar chips so I was prepared. This is your typical Irish bar - long bar with 8-10 rectangle tables. We sat at the bar and our bartender/server was very friendly and helpful.

The first warning before the actual review is don't even attempt to come to this bar on a Thursday…read morenight after 7pm. Every John Carroll University student attends this bar at this time. You won't even be able to stand. As for my other visit, it was on a Friday night. A nice sized crowd, full bar. Sports game on the television. A nice atmosphere for a neighborhood bar. A great touch is the 1 pinball machine in the corner. Older game but it does take up something to do with friends. As with service we were told that the bar is extremely behind by a rude bartender named Meg. You can tell she was overwhelmed and just seemed to be having a rough day. A few minutes later we were told by staff that the kitchen was now closed. Pretty strange as the menu is mainly all bar served fried food or burgers etc. The bartender also announced that they were out of fish as well. I continued to order drinks, they were cold and tasted as advertised. About an hour or so later , the kitchen was then re opened when the bar was less crowded. I order a dozen wings, garlic Parmesan with ranch. The wings were real solid. Nice and crispy and the garlic and parm combo was just enough. The basket of fries we got were average fries. Not crispy, nor salty but atleast they were hot. The prices were about average, no complaints about that. Overall, the bar does not seem to handle stress or large crowds very well. My wings were good, fries were average like I said. My friends attend this bar often and did tell me that this bar is not like this usually. May have been a rough day. I assume I will be back again, I wouldn't pick this place to go to but the location is close enough to the area we hang out. Not so much of any certain type of theme at the bar but I did notice the staff recognize many patrons by name so it will continue to be the neighborhood bar for many. Overall a 6.7 out of 10.
